"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. J Crew needs to hire a few OCD types to do markdowns in each store. Some items are marked on sale, but not ringing up as such. In many cases, stores do not have markdown stickers on items that are on sale. Also, 2nd cuts have been made, but not reflected on the tickets. One of the worst store offenders just shoves the sale items into the sale section and rarely bothers to put markdown stickers on the items. Stickers finally make it onto the items if they sit on the racks long enough.

The sale sections look horrendous, even when there are few to no customers in the store. I know retail is tiring, draining & it's a 2nd job for many individuals. Nevertheless, they're going to have to inject some energy into the situation if they want to sell this sad merchandise.

And about dumping the 25% storewide promo midday on Tuesday when it was supposed to go till 4/27. Legalese always states they reserve the right to change the terms, but way to chip away at consumer trust in the company's word. On the upside, the employees I've encountered have generally maintained a good attitude despite the conditions they're working under. I can't see it being fun times at J Crew right now.

  2. New arrivals are up on the website. Promo of course does not cover them. Time to play the numbers game again on pricing.

    1. Correction, it covers SELECT styles. Disappointed it is not just a general 30% off!

    2. This pricing hurts customers who can't get to a brick-and-mortar store. I was able to get in yesterday and buy at 25% off, but this morning what I bought is full price.

    3. I just wished they had not pulled the full 25% promo early. Its bad business. Oh well! I will wait till the few things I like from this rollout go on sale or there is a better promo.

  3. My orders keep shipping 1-2 items at a time over a period of days and the earlier shipped items don't have updated ups tracking while the later items are already out for delivery. I know fwp, but it's really ridiculous to get 4 boxes delivered for one order and sometimes all in one day.

  4. With all the white items in the May rollout, the white background on the site is really driving me nuts. Although, I think that they use it because it must be easier to Photoshop negative space in the model pictures. Some of those arms and thigh gaps are reaching "Target Photoshop blunder" territory. No body snarking intended - the website pics just look so much more doctored than the catalog ones with the same models.

    1. Agreed! I often feel like I need sunglasses or those anti-glare driving glasses to shop on the website.

  5. I think it is in such bad form for JCrew to pull a much advertised promo early. Shame on you, JCrew! Even though legalize allows you to do so, customer loyalty is not gained and held by small print. This is the second time in recent memory that J Crew pulled a promo early. Especially at a time when a lot of diehard and loyal J Crew customers are tiring of a multidude of bad design choices and quality issues. Keep this up and you'll lose more customers who've been with you for decades.

  6. Went to B&M this afternoon to return an online order. Told the SA I was VERY disappointed that the 25% off entire store promotion was pulled when both Facebook and my email said it would run through the 27th. No offer to honor the promo so I left without buying anything. I would have purchased at least $200 in new merchandise had the promotion still been on. Oh well, it is J Crew's loss. It is still way too cold to wear any of this stuff anyway. By the time I can wear it, it will be on sale & additional percent off.

  7. Though I didn't have any bad experiences with J.Crew recently, I would like to say that their current window displays are so BLAH-my husband said today that they look like Fall displays. Get some color in those windows lol!
