J.Crew Accessory: One of a Kind Necklace {sold}

"Thanks!" to IRL (in this post) who let us know about one very-special item, the Pink Passion Necklace. IRL shared the following as well: "According to JCrew there is only one in existence - and it can be yours for $795". The necklace is made of a variety of items including crystals, beads, and ribbon. Unfortunately, this item was never featured/ available online.

Moreover, there really was only one necklace. According to J.Crew, the necklace sold out (at the $795 price too!) J.Crew is not sure if the jewelry designer Molly will make any more, but there is a waiting list.

I will say that the necklace looks very pretty in the image (it's something the über girly-side of me adores). However, I would personally not purchase it. It's just not practical enough for me to justify purchasing it. (Which is why I am not the target buyer! ;) J.Crew is probably looking for that one consumer who will indulge herself on this piece.) Besides the price tag (for $795, it should be made of gold with some diamonds!), I don't have enough special occasions to wear such a conversation piece to. Also, the necklace looks a bit heavy and cumbersome (with all those trailing chains) to wear. ;)

What are your thoughts on the necklace? Do you like the style and detailing? Do you think it's worth the price?

Quick Poll: Do you like J.Crew's Pink Passion Necklace?

  1. I thought it was a Christmas ornament.

$795 for J.Crew jewelry? As the Mastercard commercial says: "Not in a million years."

  2. It looks like someone had a few too many drinks before picking up the glue gun and a box of craft project leftovers.

I echo La Belle Helene - not in a million....

  3. This necklace is featured in September's Vogue. Not at all my taste, either!

  4. Seriously would not consider at that price tag. I'd rather buy the REAL thing at Tiffany's.

It does look like a Christmas ornament...

  5. I wouldn't buy that necklace at 60% off + extra 20% + free shipping! Too busy.

  6. I agree, it needs to be toned down a bit, but I guess there's enough of a demand if there's an actual "wait list."

  7. I saw this in Vogue, too. They have it listed as $495 instead of $795 though.

  8. BR has some "statement" necklaces like this (and not as busy) right now for around $100.

The prob with this necklace is that it's so memorable you can really only wear it once or twice. Otherwise you become "the lady with that funky necklace."

  9. IMO collage-style necklaces can be attractive in a crazy-Victorian/steampunk way, but this one does not work for me at all. It looks random and unbalanced without any prevailing aesthetic.

  10. That is the most God awful thing I have ever seen. Crack-addiction, anyone? I'd rather by my grandmother's doily.

  11. I do not find this one pretty at all. Not even for $7.95 instead of $795

  12. I'm sorry, I love JC jewelry, but that thing is a hot mess. I wouldn't even wear it if it were free, much less $795!

  13. It is absolutely stunning! I adore the name too.... But definitely not in my price range!! :o(

  14. Hmm...are we back to doing the "questionable item of the week" posts? I nominate this piece....

  15. I am the statement necklace girl among my friends and colleagues but this one is really beyond explanation!!

  16. Well, I don't care for JCrew jewelry at all so this would be a pass for me! My elderly friend gave me a bunch of her old statement necklaces. Those I much prefer!

  17. I spotted this one in Vogue, too, and I wondered why I had not seen it in catalogs or online. ShuLvr's comment is spot on and made me laugh out loud right here in my typically quiet office. Yes, this piece is one hot mess. I think the Crew is getting more than a little carried away with so-called "statement jewelry." This one makes a statement alright...

  18. I'm confident F21 will come out with a version for $7.50 - so just keep checking back. And that's about how much I would pay - for me - too trendy to spend more than F21 prices.

  19. when I received the email with the shoes and accessories catalog , I looked at it and this was the ONE item that I was gaga over. I don't have $795 to spend on one necklace but if I did, I'd buy it! it's beautiful and reminds me on the lesser-priced one from b-reps a while back.

  20. I saw this and immediately pictured Jenna in her office mulling over handfuls of vintage necklaces, then twisting them all together into one... a clear sign I've read too many interviews ;)

  21. I like the idea, but it's too much for me. I read in a magazine a couple of months ago on how to do something similar yourself and I get compliments every time I wear my version. Take a couple of necklaces and a broach and attach everything together. If you want more bang, then try a couple of broaches. It creates a similar look, plus it allows you to shop your jewelry box. :)

  22. Not really for me. It reminds me of that LV bag where they put all the pieces of different bags onto one bag. I remember seeing a picture of Beyonce carrying it. It was some limited edition thing, too. I can just imagine the designers sitting around, laughing, as they take all their leftover beads and chains and make a necklace, wondering how much someone would be willing to pay for it...
    just my opinion

  23. $795 is a bit steep for a piece of repruposed jewelry nut I do think it is pretty.

I think you could get the same statement look from someone on Etsy.

  24. I liked what ShuLvr said...

I think I would look like a total freak wearing this necklace. I can't imagine it looking good on anyone except for someone in some sort of high end modern photoshoot---definitely not for the average person. Yuk.

  25. Maybe J Crew sold it to someone who wanted to win the ugliest necklace contest. (link to contest is below)

It's a close contest with the barbie head necklace.

  26. OT: Sad to see Making the Best of Joyce went private :( I really enjoyed her blog but I totally understand.

  27. There's a lot of things going on there. The ribbon and bib-style is very pretty, but in my opinion, there's waaaay too many gems/baubles thrown on there. It looks like a really ritzy Homecoming mum, except you wear it around your neck instead of pinning it to your shirt.

    And I usually love baubles!

  28. I think the visual weight of this necklace would crush me. There is so much going on on the neckline, I wouldn't dare wear anything besides simple lines and neutrals with it. I don't like pieces that feel like they were made with scraps from other pieces, at that price.

  29. this does look like an ornament. but i actually like it. collage type necklaces seem to be really popular right now. in this economy, this is a statement piece anyone could easily replicate with cast off jewelry bits. what a great way to recycle, even if you can only wear it once or twice. i guarantee it's not worth $795 much less $495. i say diy if you like it and can pull off wearing something like this.

  30. It is neat...but you can make your own..all that costume jewelry sitting in your jewl box that you never wear...hop to it!!! ps:they oughtta donate that 795 dollars to a good cause!
