Crewcuts Email: candy-colored classroom brights

"Thanks!" to many of you, including love2shop4bags, Marietta, & HeidiG, who shared the following email with us.

It's Friday, so of course there's an email sent from Crewcuts! ;) This time, J.Crew is promoting their accessories (click here). There are lots of cute pieces like the Girls' Petal Drawstring Backpack (Item 18839; $29.50). I didn't even know they offered bookbags for "back-to-school". :)

Although, I have to admit I am surprised to see the Girls' Ribbon-Tied Long Pearl Necklace (Item 17345; $150.00), as it's a pricey item. I thought J.Crew was going to lower the price points at Crewcuts (referring to this post)? Perhaps, on some items. ;)

Lastly, what's up with the image used for the email? Is it just me, or the two girls have a bit of an attitude. Are they frienemies? When it comes to girls still in elementary school, I rather picture them as "Rory & Lane from the Gilmore Girls" instead of "Blair & Serena from the Gossip Girls". :)

What are your thoughts on Crewcuts' accessories? Are they fabulous or not worth the price?

  1. haha, so true Alexis.

I don't have children, but that backpack is adorable! Looks like its already on backorder. I wish crewcuts had been around when I was growing up!

  2. I know Crewcuts are expensive but if I was a kid I'd be asking for these as back-to-school.

  3. yeah, I thought those girls were looking a little... cranky or something, too. :P

  4. yes, they look a tad bit haughty. I was checking out the acessories yesterday, and was shocked by that pearl necklace. I am planning on treating my niece to Crewcuts outfit for back to school.

  5. I was totally about to ask what was up with the ticked off pre-pre-teens when I read the rest of the post.

Seems a bit wrong for that age group!

    LOL

  6. Now that you've mentioned it, they really do have a Blair and Serena thing going on! Angry little girls, those two.

  7. What's up with the snooty/angry little tots in this picture??? I agree that this is an odd image to use for the promotion of sweet back-to-school clothes for girls. The price for the pearl necklace is utterly insane.

  8. Ha ha, they are SO Blair and Serena! Good call!

  9. As the mom of a young teen, I say that photo is pretty wierd!

I think the accessories are way too expensive. Believe me, durability for something like a backpack wins out over appearance any day.

  10. My niece loves their jewelry, and so far, no problems with any of them. She also has a ring and wants one of the new ones, but I'm waiting to make sure she wears the one she already has before I buy her another since they're not as inexpensive as the bracelets.

  11. i love that photo and it's a refreshing change from mostly-always-happy-playful photos of kids. it's nice to see a different side. i think these girls look inquisitive. one of my favorite photos of my kid - with a similar expression here

i'm surprised by the $150 necklace too -- i might get that for a teen, but not a young kid who easily loses things :)

  12. Find the picture to be a huge turn off to JCrew/Crewcuts. Not a fan of this advert....

  13. They just look like they're tired of having their picture taken. My niece and nephew often adopt similar looks when they're mom is trying to take their pic (which is something she does for a living, so I've seen other kids with similar looks). Truthfully, those pics are some of the funniest and most genuine. :D

  14. math teacher - you are so right!! E does the same thing to me!

$150 for a necklace for kids? I don't think so....

  15. Yeah, what's up with the girls' attitude on the picture.

I checked out the new crewcuts catalog and noticed many cute jewelry pieces. But layering them is too much going on!

Actually my 3 and half year old girl wants me to get her a pink beaded with crystal bracelet... we'll see about that....

  16. No way, I wouldn't even get that for myself, let alone a little girl who would just throw it on the floor of her room and forget about it. It is totally overpriced.

  17. I love Crewcuts styles for my kids, but most things are a little "precious" for everyday wear IMO, more special occasion.

I've done more of my back-to-school shopping at Land's End this week than JC - monogrammed backpacks, sturdy basics for school. And here's a FREE SHIPPING code for LE through Monday with NO minimum if any JCAs are interested ... can't beat that!

  18. Alexis, you are right, they look like a pair of spoiled brats! (I keep thinking of those snotty kids from the show Toddlers and Tiaras). And there's no need for such an expensive necklace for a little girl. You can pick up fun, inexpensive baubles anywhere, from thrift to Five Below.

  19. That backpack is cute, but I'm picturing how it would look after a few days of actual use by my 7-year-old...

  20. Has anyone seen the kids jewelry in person? I have tiny wrists, and J Crew bracelets don't fit me. I was wondering if the beaded fireball bracelets looked fit for only the tot set, or if it might work as a casual accessory for someone older...

  21. A - the bracelets fit my 7 year old niece. I tried one on b/c I liked that it was silver instead of gold, but the elastic band showed between the beads. I don't have huge wrists, but I'm also not tiny (I would wear a 7 to 7 1/4" bracelet). I don't know if that helps any at all. :)

  22. Last winter I ordered a critter necklace from the sale. It was cute, on a long grosgrain ribbon that looked like it wouldn't unravel at the least wear. Unfortunately, the resin charm was already broken when I took it out of the package. Bummer. I am going to give them another chance on accessories and get the crazy bead necklace. I like the color choices and the size of the beads.

I liked the more realistic crabbiness of the picture! It gave me a giggle. My daughter loves to either give wicked fake smile with eyebrows reaching up beneath her bangs, or fierce, furrowed brow growly face. The crewcuts picture I found creepy was the one on the cc catalog cover with the girls' hair braided together. A bit too Siamese twin for me.

  23. I agree with some that the image is a disturbing choice. One does grow tired of saccharine tots. Yet this has a petulant feel that evokes high-fashion shoots of grown women "caught" coveting or fighting over each others baubles. More W Magazine than Crew Cuts.

That being said, I appreciate the attempt to shake up the status quo. It's always a bit of a risk when you try to be different.
