This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SPRING sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!
Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
Guilty, guilty, guilty again. But at least I only admired new arrivals from afar! :-P I stopped in to see if the store was offering any % off clearance; it was not. Boooo. I'd like to see some more synchronicity between the store sales and the online sales (and prices for that matter).
ReplyDeleteI did like the store-only madras shirt some here mentioned recently; I also liked the embroidered sleeveless tops but didn't have time to 'really' look at them too much. Hub only gave me 20 mins to look! Grrr. Anyhoo, they reminded me a lot of that embroidered Cynthia top from a few years back. Kind of a Mexican-type vibe and light as air / gauzy for summer..
Anyway, I was able to pick up another pair of distressed matchsticks for $29.99 and a pair of broken-in boyfriend chinos for $19.99. Have to replace many beloved bottoms with smaller sizes, so I'm always looking.
There was nothing else I loved that was in my size. Tried on the lavender watercolor pencil skirt but it was 1 size too big, boo hoo, but now I know I really do want it. :-)
No but I got a cashmere cardigan from fall 2007 (pre-crappy J.Crew cashmere) in the warehouse sale in NC for $20. Finds like that kind of makes going to the retail stores totally unsatisfying.
ReplyDeleteElaine, ITA about the sales not matching in store and online... it is really annoying. Just another example of J.Crew's inconsistency, I suppose! It seems like it has been forever since there was an extra percent off sale in stores.
I went on Friday and found most of the same old, same old on sale...like the chain link tee, the sunray sequin tee, ruffle front tee. No extra %-off. There were a couple of shorts in several sizes in the prints (the waterfloral pastiche and the orange/grey one that I forgot the name of). Those were $39.99 I believe... I bought the black floral shorts for $19.99 and my sale find was a black shimmery mini marked down to $19.99!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I was kinda sad at the store because I was trying on a salvedge chambray shirt and mentioned to the SA, who had asked me if I had any questions, that I didn't know what size to buy because I have wide shoulders but going up in size makes shirts look boxy and unflattering on me and she said something along the lines of "Our shirts are made for narrower shoulders". I didn't know what to say. It kinda makes me feel like she was saying this store is not for you. But I'm probably just being too sensitive. I wish J.Crew would make some of their shirts with stretch so people like me have some options!
I got an oppertunity to shop at a few of the different NYC stores this last weekend. Can you believe I bought my very first pencil skirt? It was the Watercolor floral pastiche pencil skirt for $69. I've shopped at the Crew for years and just never had the desire. Well, I loved it so much,I wore it the very next day! I also got the Cropped vintage denim jacket for $39 (they had been sold out online in my size),some Boyfriend shorts fro $19.99, and the Drapey wool Mackenzie jacket for $59 (only one on the rack, and it happened to be in my size!) which is my new favorite jacket!
ReplyDeleteI also got a new sailor striped 3/4 top that I saw in only one of the 3 stores I stoped in (can't remeber which one....)that I don't see anywhere online. It was going for $59.50, was cream with navy stripes, made of a thicker heavy weight material, with neon pink trim inside the collar. Really cute! They didn't even have the regular pricetags on them, but the in-store generated kind. Style #26977. In all, not too bad a weekend.
Subscribing. :)

ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience with an SA awhile back trying on a Forever cardigan. I like to wear my cardis buttoned for work, and I had it on with a pencil skirt and said that I didn't like the way it clung to my bottom. She said I should wear it open, or accept that "the style wasn't cut for someone with my figure."
Thanks! But I strongly dislike the SAs at my store - when they see me carrying in a few sale items they get prickly. If only they knew what I spent online...
I thought I would mention that, as of yesterday, bermuda were $39.50 in store in all colors. Art tees, for those interested, were still $10 off. Remember thast promo prices can still be combined with the teacher/student discount.
ReplyDelete@egyptomaniac: I also bought the watercolor pastiche skirt this past weekend. It worked better on my skin tone than the sunshine peony skirt.
ReplyDeleteI saw a bunch of sad looking tees and pants none in my size so that was it.
So excited, I picked up a liberty floral daze cardi and a madras button-down shirt that I can't find online. Both fit true to size.
ReplyDeleteI also tried on a bunch of new arrival pants and they all looked sad and unflattering in the butt.
No shopping for me this weekend, but I'm enjoying reading about everyone's finds. Congratulations on the cashmere cardi, Em. That's an amazing price.
ReplyDeleteMy review of the Liberty Floral Daze Cardigan that I bought and received online. I liked the look of it when I took it out of the package initially. But it is not made well. One of the button holes near the bottom does not line up/gaps. Also the top button hole is finished poorly with two long sets of many threads sticking out (that could not be trimmed away/unravel would happen) So definitely not worth full price -15% educator's discount. I might rebuy and hope for a better one on sale/Deep discount.
ReplyDeleteSo, basically I agree with the other posters last week that this is thin and not made well and OK to pass on!
Also, like another poster mentioned I am not a fan of pencil skirts. However, loved the lilac print and got it. It is a keeper. Love the fit, fabric and print:)
I posted this yesterday in another thread, but thought it made more sense for it to be here. Sorry in advance for the long post!

I bought, returned and bought some more items this weekend at two different stores.
The Good:
Silky Linen Slouchy Pant -- I tried these based on seeing Gigi in them on her blog. Love them! Very trendy for this season without being too expensive, but they are super flattering (I got my usual pant size) and comfortable. Definitely need to wear heels with these to dress them up, otherwise they could be a little pajama-like.
Mckenzie Drapey Wool Blazer -- I see it's no longer in the sale section online...not surprised, it's fabulous. It's not quite as structured as a regular blazer, but it's not unstructured either. I took my usual blazer size and while it does fit a bit looser it's not too big at all. I can't believe I got it for about $59. I urge you to check for popbacks because it's so chic and comfortable.
Chambray Maxi Dress -- I didn't buy this one but I think I might regret it! I could size down because I'm small-busted, but it's really flattering and so comfortable. The papaya colour is brighter IRL than online, very pretty. If I had someplace to wear it, I would have bought it.
The Bad:
Flower Mosaic Tunic -- Not SO bad...I bought this one in the lilac, but once I got it home and tried it on again, I decided it just didn't suit me. Someone mentioned the sleeves making her shoulders look broader, and that's what it did for me. The overall shape is very boxy and it did nothing at all for me. Instead, I bought the Philo Eyelet Blouse on sale -- a similar look but a much better fit.
Poplin Wednesday Skirt (I think) -- Unflattering. All the gathering made my butt look super wide. I thought I could wear this a size larger and lower so it wouldn't be so short, but I think unless you wear it up at the waist (i.e. too mini for me), it just cuts me at the wrong spot.
Embroidered Gauzy Skirt (don't know the name, it's not online yet) -- Comes in Navy embroidery on denim blue, or deep blush pink embroidery on lighter blush skirt. A really cute skirt, but again, unflattering for the same reasons above. It's a slightly longer skirt with a drawstring, and I so wanted to like it, but it made me look short, thick and wide. It fits a bit big.
Jessie Cotton Dress -- Ok, this isn't really "Bad", but it was just kind of meh. Nice enough, but not $69 nice. Very ordinary, but comfortable and I wish it came in brighter colours. Fits TTS.
The Ugly:
Linen Silk-Pocket Cardigan -- At first I thought it was ok, but it sheds like crazy! My t-shirt was covered with lint and threads when I took off the cardi. I tried a different colour (dusty orchid, so pretty), and it was sewn so poorly, the seaming was all wonky and made the buttons misalign with the button holes and one pocket was way back around my kidney instead of in front where it ought to have been. Hot mess...look for this one in the sale section soon.
I returned a bunch of things I had ordered online (mostly had to re-order because of the recent promotion :( )and ended up walking out with the Dizzy floral perfect shirt in size 2. I saw it on the mannequin and thought it was cute! I normally take a size 4, but size 2 was okay...must be the "perfect shirt" fit. I brought it home, but couldn't style it for everyday wear!! The shirt plus double-serge pencil skirt was really cute, but I almost never wear skirts to work.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I just might have to return this :(.
Irene, I saw the Dizzy Floral shirt in-store on the displays, and thought it was cute but I don't need another shirt. I'm kind of regretting it now, because it really is a fun, different pattern. FWIW, they styled it with denim cut-offs, the cognac-coloured boyfriend chino shorts, and a simple khaki skirt. Hope you figure out a way to wear it!
ReplyDeleteClicquot, I agree that the print is fun and I really like the pop of color without being too bright. I wonder if this is the kind of shirt that will go on sale soon because $78 is pricey for such a light-weight shirt!
ReplyDeleteI just received my order and anyone who is looking for a thicker weight slub cotton tee, J Crew currently has it on-line only #26314 Vintage Slub Cotton Polo, it is a thicker weight and not thin and sheer as usual. Good quality too.
ReplyDeleteThe Lux Cotton Terry Cardigan #26516 - Is thin but it is a perfect weight for summer, I found it to be running a tad big, I could have sized down, and should have waited for a promo before I ordered it.
I went to the clearance centers in Lynchburg, VA this weekend. It was my first time at them and I went a little nuts. :)
ReplyDeleteThey had a bunch of the Poplin Bridget (asymmetrical shoulder) dresses...one was down to $28 for a loose seam.
I wound up getting the Cyrus Suede Gladiator sandals ($40!!!), a pair of mary janes ($40), some flip flops (30% off), some dress shirts ($30), some Ts ($10-15), a black Cotton Blakely dress ($50), and some crew cuts stuff for my nephews (a plaid blazer for $30, a wool sweater for $20, a knit tie for $3 and a madras one for $8). I wish I had a little girl to shop for because the girls' stuff was plentiful and priced well.
A friend's wedding gown (the goddess dress) was marked down to $230. Amazing.
I want to go back immediately!
I rec'd an order today that I placed last week.
ReplyDeleteOne item was the honeyclover prairie dress, which I love... but wow, it seems to run small. I know J.Crew dresses are often aimed toward the smaller to medium busted ladies, but still. I have a 34D chest, which is not really that big at all, and I can usually wear a 4. This dress, I could not zip past my waist. Just a tidbit in case anyone is considering this dress. Hope it gets marked down more too because the current price is extremely steep for a thin cotton dress!
I went to the paramus store in NJ. just got a couple of watch straps for my timex and a madras bow tie.
