J.Crew Email: New arrivals for her, in stores and online

"Thanks!" to many of you,who shared the following email from J.Crew this morning.

The email reminds us that new Summer arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here) are not only available online, but in brick & mortar (B&M) stores too!

Have you checked out the latest arrivals in-person at your local store? Were there any pieces you are super excited (or disappointed) about? :)

  1. I posted this on the Sought and Found post earlier today, but it fits here as well, so I'll repost:

My coworkers and I had a private shopping party at our local B&M this past weekend. It was fabulous.
I bought the following items and reviewed them on my blog (with IRL pics):
Starfish dress, starfish cinema shorts, cotton pocket tee, oak tweed pencil skirt, sequin falls cardigan, frankie mini dress, fiore cotton cardigan, and perfect fit tank.
I also tried on and reviewed the chambray maxi dress, the marin dress, and the neon madras shorts.

Just have to say, I really wanted the neon madras shorts, but when I tried them on, I HATED them. Not flattering at all.
Loved the marin dress but definitely not worth the $128.

  2. I'd love to try out any thing in starfish print, new printed cardigans and some pencil skirts.

  3. I love the starfish print! It's cute and quirky. The blue/white combination will work every summer.

Has anyone seen any "in-store" only styles? There were a few items in the spring (ex. variations on the elastic ruffled miniskirts).

  4. I placed a pre-sale order for the Starfish Dress and am anxious to see it IRL...looks very, very cute. :)

  5. Just got my June catalog in the mail, and for the very first time, I got a special offer! A card for $25 off a $125 (pre-tax, of course) purchase, in-store only. It's only good on in-stock, in-store items - no red phone orders.

  7. still waiting for J.Crew to produce a pair of trousers that can (a) be worn to work (IRL) during the summer; (b) will not crinkle into the pants of a thousand whiskers if work includes sitting a desk; (c) will not have to be hitched up above butt cleavage if work includes a boss. Black silk twill would do nicely.

  8. I saw the starfish dress in person this weekend - didn't try it on, but I was disappointed because the material was really thin.

  9. I was so disappointed with the starfish dress. I tried it on in-store and it looked nothing like it does on the mannequin. On the mannequin, they pulled it back really tight with pins so it looks like a traditional sheath. However, the dress is cut to have a "blousy" effect up top... basically, the top is not fitted. It's loose up top and then tight around the waist. Does that make sense? Anyway, it just wasn't very flattering. I tried on a size 0 and the bust was too big (I don't have too small a bust either).

  10. Thanks for the warning, wellfedfred. I was considering purchasing some wool trousers, but will probably reconsider. I've given up on their bowery chinos. I purchased five of them, but it's just not working out. In their place, I'm wearing Brooks Brothers Clark Advantage chinos. And I'll never look back.

As for purchasing summer clothes from J.Crew, that won't be until June 4th. I hope the one in Georgetown is well stocked.

  11. I went to the store this weekend to make some returns, and I saw that Oak tweed pencil skirt that AllDressedUp reviewed. I loved it too. The Caswell jacket that goes with it wasnt in-store, and I wish it wasnt so odd. I really want a full suit, I don't know why J.Crew insists on keeping the separates separate and not at least showing them as a suggestion on the site. Some of us have to wear a suit to work, and I'd prefer not to do the straight laced gray/black/navy thing all the time. J.Crew would do well to showcase their stylish "alternative" suiting which is much more affordable than St. John!

  12. I saw the oak tweed skirt this weekend and I really liked it. They didn't have my size so I couldn't try it on; in fact, they didn't have many sizes left at all. I also tried on and loved the ikat skirt. As soon as it goes on sale, I will be purchasing it. I also loved the striped sequin cardi. This will be another purchase once it has a markdown. I did buy the sequin necklace tank and a pair of teal shorts that I don't see online.

  13. I preordered the oak tweed skirt and now I'm glad I did. I saw it in the B&M on Saturday and really liked it.

I received my June catalogue today and it came with a 20% off code. Be on the lookout!

  14. Hi everyone! This is my second comment in the same post of the day... Gotta love being a JCA. :o)

Tonight I went down to one of the local B&Ms to check out the new arrivals. The starfish print was very cute! But sadly the shorts were cut too short (I'm 5'9", mostly legs) and the dress was too short for me too. The store was pushing the Wildcat Ombre skirt (featured on two mannequins and on the first rack you see in the store). I saw the Canterbury Bells skirt in a miniskirt, but not the pencil skirt. Very cute!

I really wanted to find the silk striped Marin dress and try it on (I love nautical stripes), but the SA said it had not arrived with the other new items.

The store was offering $10 off graphic tees, and all oxford shorts were $29.50. The sale section was okay-- lots of scout chinos, embellished tees. I got a pair of the Denim Minnies for $20.

The store is at North Star Mall, San Antonio TX. Hope this helps!

  15. Linda,

Thanks for the report. At 5'10" most everything at JCrew in the dress and skirts dept. is way too short for me. I don't even look at them anymore:) Just skip over and look at the tops.

Glad I have a beautiful selection of their skirts from 2004-8 in my closet:)

  16. Regarding in-store only styles, I purchased a solid color (non-gingham) version of the Olivia Shift Dress (Item 25716) in Shadow this past weekend. Very comfortable and flattering ... too short and perhaps too casual to wear to work, but will be great for going nearly anywhere else this summer. I recommend picking it up!
