Insider Sale: 20% Off on $150+

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Emily & Genny (in this post), Christy (in this post), Leader Girl (in this post), as well as Tiffany Rose, Ketan & Marietta, who shared with us the latest news from J.Crew this morning.

J.Crew is offering customers 20% off any purchase (sale & regular merchandise) on all orders of $150+ with promo code SUMMER. This offer expires Thursday, 5/20/10.

The fine print of this offer includes:
Offer does not apply to previous purchases, alterations or the purchase of gift cards. Offer does not apply to purchases of third-party branded merchandise. OFFER DOES NOT INCLUDE J.CREW RETAIL AND FACTORY STORES. Offer valid through Thursday, May 20, 2010, 11:59pm ET. Offer not valid on telephone orders. 20% discount applies to online orders of $150 or more before shipping, handling and taxes are added. Discount taken at checkout with promo code SUMMER. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion.
A little surprised to see that free shipping is *not* included in the offer. Ah well! On a bright note, look at all these promotions back-to-back. It's great. Go, J.Crew, go! :)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any items you are interested in getting?

  1. hmm...trying a mock checkout and i'm not getting free shipping--and my order is wayyy over $150!

actually, i don't notice free shipping mentioned in the fine print, or am i missing something?!

    ReplyDelete
  2. ok, just called customer service and confirmed--the code 'SUMMER' does not include free shipping. grrrrr...!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Stef: Sorry, I made a mistake and misread the fine print. The offer is just for 20% off. I thought it included free shipping (because of the $150 threshold) and in actuality there is none mentioned. Sorry again. :(

    ReplyDelete
  4. no worries, alexis--not your fault at all! my apologies--the 'grrr' was aimed at jc, not you! :)

thanks for keeping always keeping us updated!

  5. Aww does this mean there will be no new items online until after Thursday? I was really hoping for a rollout besides the new higher priced items. A sale without free shipping isn't that great, I'll sit this one out.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I took advantage of the Birthday code and until there are significant new items on the site, there is no reason for me to order. I won't be biting on this one, especially without free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just a note - The colloboration items seem to be missing from the site.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Belle de Jour, there are other items missing as well. Darn. My friend in Canada had asked me to order several items and they are now gone.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks, Alixis.
    I was hoping for 20%...
I was in the store and I saw featherweight cashmere cardigan (23241). It so light, soft and colors were so pretty. I bought one and was hoping to get a few more with this promo.
    Now I want free shipping...

  10. While I am really happy to see another promotion, for the first time I can remember I can't find $150 worth I really want :( I just don't find rompers, minis, and cheapie tees wearable. I'll be double and triple looking though!

    ReplyDelete
  11. If free shipping was included I would actually consider a purchase, since the promo is also good on full-price items. However, since it's only for the 20% off I won't be placing an order.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, without Free Shipping I'm hesitant to order. Also Timex and Tretorn stuff I wanted have been removed. ;-/

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.

What in the world happened to the Panama hat? I would love to get it for 20% off, but it's gone.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Erica, looks like they removed a bunch of items from the site, including some of the new-ish arrivals. I had several pieces in my cart that I wanted to use my rewards card on, but my cart got cleared this morning, and now the items are nowhere to be found. I don't even care about the 20%, I just wanted to get the stuff this week and now it probably won't pop up until Friday after the sale is over. Thanks a lot, JC - my $$'s going to Anthro this week (for my first order from them!).

    ReplyDelete
  15. silver_lining: You should still be able to place your order for the new items if you have the item numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My cart with all my wishlist items got cleared this morning, too! So frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  17. AppGal, were you able to find your items and refill your cart? I searched by item numbers but got nothing. Oh, well. Wouldn't it be more customer-friendly to just program the collaboration items and others so that the discount just wouldn't apply, rather than remove them from the site for 4 days? Ha, then again this was the site that has probably still not fully recovered from the great crash of Summer 08! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think I will be sitting this one out too...if only free shipping was included. It makes no sense, especially when the minimum for the discount is 150....the discount off almost negates the cost of the shipping...pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This has nothing to do with the sale or discount but did anyone else noticce that the section "JCrew in Good Company" is not there today? Maybe that's not what it's called but it's the section where they partner with outside companies for exclusives such as Timex, Red Wing, Fenton & Falon. Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I still think that the 15% off everything plus free shipping BIRTHDAY code was the best ever, as I used it on a Fenton Fallon piece and a couple of other full priced items. I am glad I was able to make a couple of orders from that, I hope it showed J. Crew that they should consider doing that more often. :)

I did have to return a few items from the BIRTHDAY order because of wonky hems, seams, etc., but I still feel like they got that we are supportive and receptive to more promos like that!

I will probably re-order the two ruched v-neck dresses that were all messed up (one had the hem problem, the other had a hole). If these two come all screwed up, I will give up! :)

In re: new items being removed (the ones that I highlighted in a polyvore and at my blog this Saturday), they of course did that so that the SUMMER promo couldn't be used, but also because they now have to switch over to the photos that include the models. I am glad that silver lining and I could clip a few of the items to polyvore, though, as they are FULL SIZED and will be much easier to use in our polyvore sets (all you PV addicts will get what I mean).

Yes, it was insanely frustrating to see my cart all empty. All that hard work...lol. :)

  22. This code is useless. It basically just gives you free shipping, since you have to order $150 worth to get the 20% off. I really wish I hadn't missed BIRTHDAY - I didn't think there was anything I wanted, but I think I could really use the double-serge pencil skirt in natural. Le sigh....

    ReplyDelete
  23. silver_lining - That was funny. I agree. The site still limps along from time to time.

OT - I have irl pics of the featherweight cotton bling button cardigan in this post.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess any code is better than not having one at all, I preferred the Birthday code and will not be using this one.

silverlining: Are you able to preorder your newish items?

    ReplyDelete
  25. When I ordered 3 of the new arrival items on Saturday, they weren't even considered a pre-order. I was told they were now available on the website for purchase, which was true at the time. The order I placed is in Open status, and I anticipate receiving it by mid-week.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Since it doesn't include free shipping and there's nothing I really need, I think I'll pass.

  28. ffm: The system allowed me to order a newish item yesterday, and is also in Open status, today the same item is not found on the website, and will not let you order it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. casual-crew: I noticed the same thing earlier this morning. I'm pretty sure they can still be ordered over the phone now with the item number, even though they aren't on the website.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi casual-crew! Since I wasn't able to find them on the website, I decided not to bother. I may call CS at some point with the item numbers, but I've heard such horror stories here about pre-orders (and who knows if the items will be considered pre-order or not today?). I should've just ordered yesterday when I could put the stuff in my cart and checkout. No biggie! Just the usual JC website irritation. ;)

  31. Anyone have the style # for the starfish knotted dress?? It was in my shopping bag and now gone. I would like to order that. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Milljcrew: The item # is 26685. (I always verify the description, color, name, etc. with the CSR when I call, just to make sure it's the correct one.) :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was so excited until I realized no free shipping! And with Ann Taylor doing Buy 1/Get 1 50% off, I know where some of my graduation money is going... too bad JCrew. I just think their sales make no sense, though obviously people use them all the time. I almost NEVER shop without free shipping unless it's something really special or urgent.

  34. I bit super early this morning. It killed me to pay the shipping costs (shipping + tax = $18.50! Booo!) but so many Crewcuts tees popped back for my son that I had to do it.

Then I stopped at my B&M (Crabtree Valley in Raleigh, NC) to see what they had, and lo and behold they had my lavender watercolor pencil skirt in my size -- yay me! And also several Crewcuts tees in my son's size that had not been available online.

I had the sunshine peony skirt in my mitts also, but alas, it rang up at $64.99 and I'm not down with that if others are getting it for $39.99 (if anyone spots it in a 10, can you tell me where -- elaine dot hamill at gmail dot com ...

And also during this trip I acquired a personal shopper! LOL. At the register I spoke with a nice lady I always see there; she said she'd never had a chance to talk to me because I'm always in a hurry (which is true, I go on my lunch hour) ... and she offered to call me when the sunshine peony skirt went on sale more and also when the next round of Crewcuts tees gets marked down.

I told her, "what I save on sale prices, I make up for in volume" and she giggled.

    Good times! Happy Monday, y'all.

    Elaine

  35. Oh, and I saw a few pair of my beloved broken-in boyfriend chino shorts priced at $19.99 in the store. I just paid $34.95 per pair for 3 pair last week (GRRRR) and can't return and re-buy because none of the in-store ones were my size. Boooooooooooooooo.

  37. Wishful thinking: J.crew reads yet another round of lamentations on here, leading to epiphany regarding lost sales due to high shipping :-) I'll certainly be passing on this code, too.

Lawyerette: I seem to recall you are a fellow Dauphine owner - how are you styling it? Would love to hear some ideas (from anyone, of course). q

    ReplyDelete
  38. OH - just realized that shipping is not included. And I managed to scrounge up $150. No go without free shipping.

FFM and Milljcrew, can you describe the knotted starfish dress? That sounds like something I'd like :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thank you, FFM!! Looking forward to seeing that IRL. Funny, I just came back here to say I accidentally found um, another blog's post about the new items :)

Do you happen to know about a gold striped bateau someone mentioned?

    ReplyDelete
  40. mommydearest: It is item#27321 it is the Fade-out tee where the color of the leftside bottom hem is faded out on the side only, it kinda looks like someone spilled bleach on it. It comes in neon peach and gold colors sells for $39.50, and is slub cotton. Sorry I do not have a picture today.

    ReplyDelete
  41. casual-crew, thank you so much, especially for the description. No fadeout for me, so I'm glad I didn't waste any time looking.

    Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. A silly question, but can someone please explain a bit about personal shoppers? Do you just place orders through them or do they suggest pieces/styling for you, etc? I am interested in getting an online personal shopper as it seems they are able to do preorders, combine codes with educator discounts, etc, but I am not particualarly interested in somone to pick out pieces for me or anything like that. If it's just someone I can order through and ask for help I would certainly sign up. Thanks everyone.

  43. Florida Mommy..

I tried to order the dress online and it won't let me.:(

    ReplyDelete
  44. MDPA, I think it can work however you like. The ones in my store run the whole gamut.

I think 'mine' knows that I don't really need her to pick out stuff for me -- and she knows not to pull anything that's full price, 'cause I won't buy it! I plan to use her more as a 'screener' who can get to know my tastes and pull / hold things I've told her I want, esp. if they get marked down, and I want her to inform me when a new round of markdowns or an extra % off sale happens in the store.

Sure, now and then I will ask her advice for styling, but overall, I would tend to look @ Polyvore or ask here for that.

However, I have seen people come in for PS appts. and the SA has pulled 2 racks worth of items from a new rollout and they hold their hand through the process and help them create outfits.

I'm sure some are better than others, but even if all I get is a heads-up on sales, it works for me! And of course your PS gets the commissions from your purchases, so there's something in it for them if they keep in touch with you. :-) HTHs! if I am wrong, someone please chime in...

  45. I was super excited to get the peony skirt for the $64.99-20% before it sold out during the last extra online percent off. I wouldn't mind paying the $64.99 for it if it is an item you really like or need! It is sold out online. There are price consistencies all over the place at various stores. Just depends where you live etc. I don't let that bother me if it is a must have item.

However, I cannot stand paying for shipping. Shipping has to be free otherwise I might be out $ if I need to return an item/or entire order for that matter!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I meant price INconsistencies!

I was at the Durham store last weekend and found a shirt in the sale section for $24.99 instead of online $49.99

Also saw lots of the skirt in lavendar and peony that others have been looking for but at the higher prices. I had bought them both online so did not look at sizes. Just noticed a lot of them.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Slightly off topic, but I am so bummed that the Vintage Bateau top I ordered back in early April (that was waitlisted till June) is now waitlisted till AUGUST! Major disappointment. Has anyone seen the pewter in stores??

    ReplyDelete
  48. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the Watercolor Garden shell (Collection0 is now $39.99 in stores. Just picked one up at the Prince Street, NY store. Saw sizes 4, 6, 8 for anyone who is interested.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Milljcrew: The new items were taken off the website, but you can try calling into CS and place your order over the phone with the item #.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Clicquot, I swear I saw the pewter one in the durham, nc store. I'm not 100% sure though.

Not sure what sizes are there, though, and for anyone else who's interested, they have the pink too.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anyone looking for the watercolor garden shell, 39.99, there were two in size 10 and size 12 at the NYC 5th Avenue store. I returned mine and got the watercolor garden cardigan (59.99) instead; the color is less vibrant than the shell but I think I'll wear it more.

About 10+ size M watercolor garden cardigans in the same store, a couple S and XS.

    ReplyDelete
  52. MDPA: I really like my online PS. She doesn't suggest items for me, but does place a lot of my orders, including any pre-orders I wish to make, and then helps keep track of them to make sure everything goes ok. She has also found numerous items for me in the B&M's that weren't available online any longer and had them shipped to me. I usually communicate with her through email and occasionally on the phone. She has all my information so when I email my order I simply tell her what CC to bill it to, and she takes care of the rest. I also personally like having one person to communicate with on a regular basis who will handle any issues with price adjustments, defective merchandise, or anything else that may come up. It's much better than having to call into CS and speak with a different person each time, IMHO. :)

  53. Just for fun , I did some calculation and found that amount wise , ordering $1000 worth of stuff with 20% off plus shipping charge, is the same as ordering $ 1000 of stuff with an hypothetical ' 18 % ' off with free shipping. So, I guess bigger the order , more closer we get to the 20% and more 'nullified' the shipping may feel :)
Ok, I know it sounds like I have too much free time on my hands. Maybe this is a good promo code for someone who has a really big order.

    ReplyDelete
  54. OT - Just dropped by the store to make some returns, saw some items that were further marked down. The watercolor pastiche shirt is now $29.99! The cardigan version is also $29.99. The sunshine peony shirt still rang up @ $49.99... The silk wisteria dress is now $49.99! The sweater knit dress with bubble skirt (don't remember the name and can't find it online now) is now $69.99.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I ordered a lot last week, so nothing new is needed except for maybe some Crewcuts stuff.

The Microspun tee arrived, love the fit but it is so thin I could read through it, even in black! I think that's it for me and their tees, I've had it.

I LOVE the Saturday twist dress in orchid, this is awesome and comfortable. I would order in another color but it's sold out. The tank straps are wide enough to cover everything and the dip in front is fine with me even though I'm busty. The length is longer than I thought, but that actually is better for me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Audrey,

I agree the watercolor garden cardigan in lilac is a better buy than the Collection shell even at $39.99. There was lots of discussion of that top on this blog last week and the top is very thin and the cotton is not soft nor very nice. I would not even pay $39 for it. I know everyone seemed to be returning theirs. Good buy on the sweater. I got it too instead:)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jean,
That is a huge difference in price on the water color pastiche skirt. Online it is $79 vs. $29 in store. What store did you see it at? I might have to return mine for that price difference if they have a 10.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Genny,

I love the watercolor garden print, but I am not sure who would pay $150 for a cotton shell! I don't mind that it's unlined or that the cotton fabric was kind of crisp, but the fit was off. I'm better with a $10 tank top. I agree! Cardigan > shell, totally.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi Summer, I was talking about the shirt not the pencil skirt. I believe the skirt is $39.99 as most people mentioned here before. I didn't really check the price as some items don't show recent price tag in the stores but then when you bring them to the register, you'll realize the prices have further marked down. Yes, that can be very confusing! That could easily impact your purchase decision! I'd suggest to call the store first to check the price before you go; save you a lot of troubles!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I broke down in-store today and bought the watercolor garden shell, and my plan is to take it home and see if I can make it work (a la Tim Gunn). For $39.99 it may be worth it for me, as it is HOT HOT HOT here for the next 3 or 4 months, so this could work out well ... I'm just a sucker for lavender/purple 'cause it flatters my coloring.

But if I tweak and adjust and pull and fuss too much, back it goes, and I will suck it up and buy the sunshine peony skirt instead. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  61. Can anyone tell me if the website photos are true to life for the pastiche pencil skirt vs the pastiche perfect shirt? The perfect shirt seems more white/purple/pink and the pencil skirt seems to have a lot of yellow/brown in it. I've seen IRL photos of the pencil skirt on Gigi's blog but cannot find IRL photos of the perfect shirt to compare.

Would really like to know, if anyone can comment. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I took advantage of the 15% Birthday code and the 20% off spring sale. I will NEVER order from jcrew.com if they don't offer free shipping. Shipping just is *not* worth it, especially on top of the 11% sales tax I have to pay living in Chicago.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Captain Crew,

I don't know if this will help you or not but I tried both pastiche items you mentioned on in the store and to me there is a definite difference in the coloring of the two. So if one coloring works for you better (is it the shirt you are thinking of?) Then you should be fine. I really liked the shirt on me just not the $49 price tag and I also liked the other perfect floral shirt I tried on better anyway for $24 when I was at the store last weekend.

Just like the peony print: the sweater, shirt and skirt are all a bit different in their coloring.

Same as the lilac print. The sweater is softer tones and the (over priced, crazy cheaply made Collection shell) has stronger purple tones. I LOVE the skirt and the sweater: own them both. I also liked the Collection shell but not the material. If it was $19.99 I might think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I won't be placing an order. I am overstocked with perfect tees and the JCrew staples, which is what I have been buying from them lately due to quality, sizing issues etc. I prefer to shop at RL for everything else.

  66. Bright Young Thing, 11% tax? WOW! I thought our 9.25 - 9.5% was bad.

    ReplyDelete
  67. CaptainCrew, you are correct re: color difference in those items. The color overall is more saturated in the skirt vs. the shirt. I personally prefer this skirt, as the colors in that item don't do much for my skintone. But yep, it's not just your monitor! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. La Belle - I'm having the same issue, haven't worn my Dauphine yet because I have nothing to wear it with! Been trying to get that double serge pencil skirt in natural to pair with the Dauphine, but I don't want to pay full price + shipping, especially since the skirt is not even in stock right now. None of the stores near me have it either. I really should have ordered it with BIRTHDAY.

Also, it's the only thing I can think of. If I had a dark brown or creme shift dress, those could work, but I don't have either. I'm thinking now I might have to wait until fall - while there are flecks of heather gray and mauve in the Dauphine, it's not enough to pair a bottom in those colors with the jacket, IMO. The more prominent colors are the natural, dark brown, and mustard. It's hard to find skirts in those colors in this spring/summer season. I'm hoping I don't have to wait till fall!

Of course, the obvious answer is jeans, but I bought the jacket as a work jacket, and I can't wear denim to my office. Thus, the Dauphine has been sitting in my closet :(
