J.Crew Spotted in InStyle Magazine!

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, DrDrama, & SunInSeattle, who not only let us know about J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of InStyle Magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The first page features a J.Crew Dress ($168) that is a part of the new arrivals discussed in this past Sunday's "Sneak Peek: What's to Come This Summer {& later this week!}" post. I l-o-v-e the dress but not feeling the price. Seems a bit high for what I see (in terms of fabric).

The second page features the Denim Minnie Pant (Item 23559; $98.00, now $78.00) which J.Crew's touts as "our blockbuster pant of the year—Minnie —now in two-way-stretch Turkish denim. We added exposed ankle zippers too—a small but elegant design detail you'll love".

What are your thoughts on the dress & jeans featured? Do you like the style of the dress? Do you own the jeans? If so, please share! :)

  1. Well screw it, I'm flat as a board...guess this dress won't work for the ones with over the shoulder...pebble holders...

  2. Re: the Minnies – ankle zippers are a "small but elegant design detail that you'll love" ? Actually, I thought they were a horrible throwback to 1986 that would single-handedly keep me from ever purchasing them regardless of markdown price.

  3. OT but I logged in today and I have free shipping no minimum on my account. I am sure some of you got it as well. So check it out, in addition to 20% off I think I will cave in and place an order. To get 20% you still have to place min $150 order but this is BEFORE discount is applied.

  4. Does anyone have the item # for the dress?

  5. ffm: Do you have a tracking# for your weekend order for the newish items?

In the May Fitness magazine a model was wearing a the Neon pink Bling Bling cardigan, it look really cute on her.

  6. casual-crew: Nothing yet. They're still in OPEN status, so now I'm wondering if maybe they won't ship until the new arrivals go online?

  7. FFM: I am hoping they will ship out when the new arrivals are released or maybe they will cancel the order because the items numbers are not in their system?

  8. casual-crew: They are probably being treated as pre-orders, even though they were available to order online over the weekend, and won't ship until the website gets updated with the new arrivals.

  9. Another inconsistency between online and in-store prices. I got my denim minnies in B&M 1 month ago for $39.99. They are not bad for that price... but for $78 I'd rather buy a nice pair of designer jeans at Macy's.

  10. I saw a bunch of denim minnies (retail version) on sale at my local Crewlet last weekend for I *think* $29.99. Wonder if they are not selling well and that's why they were shipped off to the Crewlet? I liked them quite a bit, but the area around my hips and butt sagged (I have NO junk in my trunk) and it seemed they would stretch out even further, so I passed.

  11. I got the free ship. After the 20% off and free ship code in my catalogue and the Birthday code that included free ship, I'm shopped out. I wish I could transfer it to Anthropologie where the huge sale is going on!

  12. No go for me on either of the pieces. I find it good and chuckle worthy that any non-jersey JC dress is touted for larger chests! I heartily agree with anyone who's ever stated that the Crew designs for Jenna-esque proportions, and lovely as she may be, busty she ain't. And the only place I'd feel at home in stretch jeans with ankle zippers is a Poison concert.

"Look what the cat dragged in... from J. Crew!"

  13. Cheesy - ahahahahhahahahaha! I totally agree - I didn't even do ankle-zipper jeans the first time around. Elegant is NOT the word that comes to mind!

  14. cheesygoodness: Poison concert! Hahahaha!

That dress looks like a similar cut to the Solid Schuyler, which I own in orchid shadow. I love it but I need to wear my most super-padded bra just to attempt to fill out the top.
I could crack out the bra for this dress too, once it is reduced to $69.99!!

  15. CheesyGoodness: I've actually missed reading your comments... LOL!

Between the toothpick and the denim minnies I found my toothpick in twilight was to be more flattering maybe due to the rear pockets (?).

This dress is pretty but a bit too short for me...but would love to try it on.

  16. OT but I just want to prevent others from making the same mistake I did... just received the Floral Cara beach dress in peach and omg is it soooo not peach, it is a bright orange that is grossly misrepresented online. May need to reorder in a solid but haven't tried it on yet since I'm at work...

  17. There is not enough crew-lade in the world to make me think ankle zip jeans are okay. Never.

  18. Ok, I've been a lurker for while, but had to comment here.

I own the denim minnies and I even paid full price for them! What isn't described is that there is actually a denim flap that covers the zippers on the sides of the legs, so they aren't totally exposed. And with the pants being as fitted as they are, I cannot imagine trying to get them on without the zippers. These are NOT a throw-back to the awful stone-washed Guess jeans with the zippers on the back of the legs that I wore in grade school. If anything, they have more of a 50's vibe to them.

Personally, I think that they are very cute and look great with a pair of flat gladiator, or strappy, sandals and a long tank. Of course to each her own, but that's just my two cents. :)

P.S. Just have to say how great the "Birthday" code was last week! I made a big order and can't wait for it to arrive.

  19. Not loving either item. The Minnie's did not work well on my stick figure, they were so saggy on my butt/legs. I imagine would work best on curvy gals, based on the design.

The dress is also something I think would be better on curvy figures. That voluminous skirt will not flatter those of us without the teeny tiny waist that ramps up to a marvelous bottom half.

  20. xoxo - that's just about the nicest way I've ever heard anyone describe a figure that's less than boyish - "teeny tiny waist that ramps up to a marvelous bottom half" - I'll have to remember that when I'm cursing my curvier figure! Thank you for the smile.

  21. The Minnies as 70$ online and 29$ in stores-that irks me so bad that they do this!!
