The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Timex® Vintage Field Army Watch (Item 27460; $150.00). J.Crew describes this military style watch as:
Presenting the watch of the hour: a new white-faced version of our popular military watch (also created with legendary American watchmaker Timex). Based on an iconic 1940s military style from the Timex archives (and only available here), we gave it a new subtly distressed, off-white dial face, Arabic numerals and olive-toned watch strap. Like our other version, this piece is built for the trenches: it has a quartz analog movement and is water-resistant to 50 meters. A timeless blend of functional design and modern crafting, you won't find this anywhere else. (It's already the preferred everyday watch for our troops.) Stainless steel watch case. Nylon strap. Quartz analog movement. Off-white dial with full Arabic hour markers. 24 hour markings. Battery powered. 50M water-resistant.I love J.Crew's original Timex Military Watch (Item 10884; $150.00). So of course, I love this latest version too! I really like the off-white dial face & olive-toned watch strap— it has a fresh feel for Spring & Summer. I guess I am not the only one who is loving this piece, because it is already wait-listed (expected to ship 07.19.2010).
What are your thoughts on the Timex® Vintage Field Army Watch? Do you like this version more? Do you think you will purchase one?
I have the original one but like you Alexis like this one for spring/summer. I would like to get it but only with some type of discount. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI also have the original watch and have been wearing it pretty consistently for the past year or so.
ReplyDeleteBut what I am really loving is the the Timex/J. Crew watch that I put together. I bought the Timex Men's Easy Reader watch at Target, took off the leather strap, and put on the J. Crew Bali Blue watchband. The watch was only $30, and with the watchband for $15, I got a killer watch for under $50!

ReplyDeleteI can appreciate the fact that J. Crew is trying to push it's Americana aesthetic from head to toe. I could walk out the door in everything J. Crew. Hat, bag, socks, boxers. Offering a classic, vintage-esque watch makes sense.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, there are a TON of vintage watches on ebay right now that can be had for under $100. On top of that, it's extremely unlikely you'll see someone else with the same watch. I currently sport a keen art deco Hamilton circa the 60's.
I have the "old" J Crew Timex and feel that this one is just to similar to justify two... but if I was flush with cash, sure! Why not!
ReplyDeleteTypo alert --
ReplyDelete"feel that this one is just too similar to..." ;)
Looks great. I almost wish I had this instead of the first one. I won't buy this one, but it doesn't mean I can't dream about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been waiting for this since someone mentioned it in a F. Muytjens article out of Japan. You could see it on models wrists in the collection section online. My PS put me on the list today. I bought my DH the dark one last spring and he wears it frequently. I'm so excited to get this one!
ReplyDeleteLove it. I had been holding off on the J.Crew Timex watch and I fortunately stumbled upon it while loading up my shopping bag during the JCA 2nd Birthday Extravaganza, so I managed to snag this at 15% off. Swoon! It said it would ship out on 5/19, so here's hoping!
ReplyDeleteI really like this watch. Love the colors. I normally wear bracelet watches, but I'll keep my eye on this one.
ReplyDeleteI love this new version. I have & love the original and used my rewards to get this one as well. The off-white dial is very fresh and I love the contrast of the chartreuse, glow in the dark hands. I figure I can share both watches with my husband.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone shortened the band? I have quite small wrists and the extra band (even through I am wearing the watch loose) is still too long and sticks out and it quite annoying. I am thinking about cutting it off, but I am worried about it fraying. Have any of you trimmed the band?
ReplyDeleteHi mczinn! I think all of us (men & ladies) find the band to be ridiculously long. What we have been doing is looping "the excess" through the second metal bar again. (I hope this makes sense.) This way it doesn't stick out as much. Hope this helps! :)

ReplyDeleteHappy to hear mczinn that it worked for you! :)
ReplyDeleteI am a bit dense today, but could you clarify the second question for me. I wasn't sure if you were referring to the watch being the same as the other watch in the other posts or about the excess strap. Thanks! :)
Thanks! That solution actually works quite well! I didn't expect that it would lay so flat.
ReplyDeleteIs this same discussion about band lengths in one of the other threads? If so, feel free to point me there :-) (sorry, forgot a word the first time) You made it sound like this has been discussed before.
BTW, I ordered both the black and the new one and I decided to keep the new one. It looks less harsh to me.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't post very often, I love your blog and read it EVERY day. I bought the watch using the B-day code :-)
Thanks mczinn for clarifying! I don't think there was a specific post talking about the band length, but several comments made in several posts. I think it is a universal problem because the bands are so terribly long.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting the newest version of the Timex watch! It has such a fresh feel to it- I love it! If I didn't already own the first one, I would have definitely gotten the new one too!!!
Also, thanks for the nice words on the blog- you are super sweet! :)
Ok guys let me educate you. This is a NATO style watch band. It purposefully has excess band length for wearing over the sleeve of a coat in cold weather. If you do choose to trim it hold a lighter near the trimmed area to melt the frays.
