ReplyDeleteI am pregnant (6 1/2 months) and only getting a bigger belly for the summer. I really hate the majority of the clothes. I LITERALLY shop only at J. Crew and Banana Republic. I really liked your piece on Lands End Canvas (so cute), I just wish I could wear some of the outfits this summer!
I am writing to see if you could ask your readers for great choices for J.Crew-like maternity clothes that won't break the budget (I don't plan on staying huge for too long and definitely won't need the chubby clothes next summer!

I also have a "vintage" Jcrew wool tweed black dress, double v-neck and faux-wrap on the skirt. I bought it on ebay thinking that it was a size 0 but it is a size 2 and would need some alterations to fit me. Would fit a 0 Tall IMO (as the bodice is perfect but the skirt is too long on me). ReplyDeleteRe maternity clothes, I was able to wear a lot of J. Crew and BR blouses and dresses during my entire pregnancy. Depending on the cut and style of the item, I could size up from my regular size and the clothes were very flattering. For example, any empire blouse or dress looks maternity anyway. BR had a bubble top during my pregnancy that was perfect for covering the belly in a cute way.
Obviously, this doesn't work for pants or skirts.

@Lawrence (Katie), I wore mostly Babystyle clothing throughout my pregnancy. I got some REALLY sute lightweight stretch denim pieces from them -- a pair of bootcut jeans and a skirt some to mind -- and I have kept them to this day because I still love them! I don't wear them, but I have them.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVED Michael Stars maternity tops. They were so nice and long, they covered everything, even my enormous basketball tummy.
To me, I was pretty much only gonna be pregnant once, so I wanted to look good, feel good and wear things that showed my shape and didn't fit like a tent. My attitude was, 'don't like it? don't look at it!'
I hated the frumpy, dumpy stuff most stores had, even up to a few years ago. It was important to me to look great during pregnancy because I showed very quickly and was enormous by about halfway through the 9 mos. ... not due to fat or overeating, but due to the fact that I had a 10-lb baby in there. :-)
The Liz Lange stuff at Target is pretty nice for the price, esp. if you can grab a few things on sale. I also bought one or two tops off the sale rack at A Pea in the Pod.
BTW, if you buy a few great but sort of $$$ pieces, you can always re-sell them later and recoup a lot of your costs!

Hi Kelley! Under the text box of where you write your comment, there should be some options like "Chose an Identity". Under that there should be a check box that reads "Email follow-up comments to [your email address]". You have to check that box to actually subscribe.
ReplyDeleteTyping "sub", "subscribing", or a variation of that does not subscribe you to the comments. It just means that the JCA/JCO is just commenting on something in order to subscribe to the thread.
