This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I know i am slow but so upset that the online veiwing of the catalogue has been removed.I have become a fan of J crew just because of the way it is shot and the amazing colours & styling of the catalogue. I live across the world in South Africa and travel 2x a year to the USA - J Crew & Anthropologie are the first stores i rush to see.All due to their catalogues.I can not even get one posted to me as i am an international customer the site is quite boring without the catalogues!!

  2. I just received a new pair of matchstick jeans and they are now "made in Mexico of US fabric." They used to be made in USA.

  3. Why Why Why would J Crew not tack down the wide piece of elastic that is the waistband of the otherwise completely fabulous Saturday Pant? How many of us have had to un-roll the darn stuff after we wash them????

So take heed! If you get a pair of these comfy loungers, tack the elastic down in 4 or 5 inch intervals around the waistband BEFORE they go in the wash!!!

  4. I just bought the Emeline dress from the online factory store last weekend, and I got the same size I always get in dresses... and I was SO disappointed! It has absolutely no shape to it and fits like a tent! I will be returning it.

  6. Oh, and BTW, just received a new Fall Catalogue today which shows the Majesty peacoat in a beautfiul pink peony color...online, it is no longer available, which is ridiculous, it's only September! And the dark and light gray colors seem to be mismatched as the catalogue shows the light gray to be "heather charcoal" yet online, as of today, it was listed as "heather graphite." Be careful when ordering.

  7. Well...this is more of a vent for UPS. I was supposed to receive my hthr honey Majesty Peacoat yesterday, but did not. The tracking on the website says delivered, so I called and there is now an investigation. I had the coat overnight shipped, but the "investigation" is supposed to take 7 to 10 days. I am sooo sad. J crew said I could order another one, but I would be charged for 2 jackets with none in hand :(

  8. J Crew needs to have a variety of women (with a variety of body types) try on mock-ups of their clothes to get them right.

I continue to buy dresses, and I continue to send them back.

This week's try was the Moonlighter dress. What potential! As soon as I pulled it out of the box, I knew it would be a disaster. They have built in love handles that 1) are way too large for me; and 2) hit me in the completely wrong place. Picture two large butterfly wings sticking out from the top of the waist.

I hope it might work for some, because otherwise it would have been a keeper. However, about a year ago I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy anything else from JCrew that had to be tailored to fit me right. So back it goes, sigh!

  9. I concur with The Chic Chauffeur on the Saturday pants - they are great but the waistband rolls in the wash like cheap pants from Forever 21. Tacking it down is a great idea.

Received two Eden cardigans today in small and they are huge and boxy (no shape at all). I might try an XS, but there is no way that my size 6 ish with a 34D chest is a XS. This sweater needs some shaping, stat.

  10. I would like my items to stop disappearing from my cart. Very annoying. Can we please have a save for later list?????

  11. Nicole, I am with you on the outerwear discount, I am holding out too. Thanks for the heads up on the colors on the Majesty that is what I have my eye on for this winter. I still can't get over the Academy coat having the knit handwarmers attached. Even the kids version does not have that nonsensical attachment.

  12. Two things that I want don't ship until November! So silly. Is anyone having any luck getting their items shipped to them sooner?

  13. Dreaded k: I too live in a country where JCrew doesn't exist. I return to the US twice a year. The first couple years when I was abroad, I could order from JC with confidence and know that I'd have treasures waiting for me in the US when I went back to visit.
Unfortunately I can no longer do that. The sizes are completely inconsistent and seemed to have fluctuated recently.
Also, the quality is shameful. So many holes, unraveling hems and third-tier fabrics now used.
I am sorry JCrew has devolved to this. The last two visits to the US I have noticed many retailers substituting quality fabrics and construction for cheaper alternatives.
I am disgusted and angered by recent wardrobe malfunctions (i.e. looking down mid-presentation with federal officials and realizing that my pants hem has unraveled since getting out of my car). I try keep negativity to a minimum but have reached my limit with this company. It is shameful what they pass off as quality products.

  14. I was so excited to receive my white pencil skirt yesterday (final sale) and lo and behold I open up the Siren dress...

I went on-line to see what it was and it retails for $385! Is it gorgeous - check. Is it flattering - check. Is it what I wanted? - _____! *sigh*

  15. Has anyone experienced UPS losing a package. They started a claim on mine and they said it takes up to two weeks. Any luck with these claims? I am so sad about this...I wanted the Majesty Peacoat so bad :(

  16. I ordered a bunch of cashmere cardigans last fall - final sale of course - or what I thought was a "steal" at around $60 a pop - they are pretty and great colors but they are scratchy! My old J crew cashmere (bought in 2001) was never scratchy....argh. I would never have paid $60 for a scrathcy sweater, cashmere or otherwise. Grrr. Consider yourself warned the next time these go on sale.

  18. Josanne-

I completely agree about the academy coat. I was absolutely in love when I saw it in the catalog and my first impression was that they paired it with a extra-long sleeve sweater. I can't believe it! That long sweater cuff with the thumbholes is something I expect to see in the girls' section.

I want to get it and chop off the sleeves, but what is the point of paying J.Crew prices if I have to rework the coat? Maybe on final sale.

  19. tasty moog,

I ordered the petite wool cafe capri in baked citron on 9/11 and the expected ship date was 1/16/2012, but they were shipped this week! So you could order now and hopefully they'll ship earlier.

  20. Amy - I had the EXACT same problem with the Moonlighter Dress, those love handles were ridiculous and stuck out above where my actual love handles are! It looked so absurd that even my PS laughed at me when i showed her. I wonder who that one is cut for?
