J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. tried on the leopard loafers, they ran half a size larger than regular. This is second time it is happening so unless my feet are shrinking (they are not), the last two round of flats (harper and loafer) have run a little big. Same case for the mid-heel pumps as well.
I was presently surprised by the fit and quality of the side sequin shirt.

  3. This is my previous post from Seek and Find thread.

Since I didn't like the Tilly, I ordered the Slouchy merino and this is my review of it.

    :: REVIEW ::

I just received the Slouchy merino sweater in shoreline ivory. Ordered PXS since it says online, 'oversize fit'. The body is slouchy, which is fine for my 36B chest. But putting on the sleeves was weird. It was tight from wrist through forearm. Drop shoulders (boo..), and its dolman cut-lots of room from upper arms through the armpits.
I didn't realize that when I laid the sweater flat on the carpet, the body is cut in a V shape; roomy on the top, then it tapers at the end - a really weird design. Not sure if trying on a regular size will make a difference.
    The sweater was a dud.
    First design fail of 2015!

    1. Hi JSR - thanks for reviewing. I loved the atlantic green color but hate the dropped shoulders, so I probably won't even try this one on. I think there will be quite a few duds in the spring bunch since those designs were probably finalized a long time ago. Holding out hope for Fall '15....

    2. I tried the slouchy merino sweater in my size and a size down and neither looked great.
This is a pass for me.

  4. This is not a review of a new item but I really like the blush leather MacAlister women's boot (item B4138). Lined with leather, and lovely soft pink color makes them more feminine than the average desert boot. They look great with gray for winter and will really perk up white jeans in the summertime. I've bought only two items from J.Crew this fall, these boots and the gray merino midi skirt, and both of them are winners. Nothing else has been a winner for me from J.Crew this fall but hey, it's a new year.

  5. Not so much a review
big sale @ Factory 60% of sale and while I was there the new stuff was being put out and the store was being styled, Bergen Town Center. Couple of nice prints but too cold and snowy to think about.
Red/black vest for 33 buck though

  6. I've barely bought anything from JC lately, but I did order the suede scuffs on sale costing about $20 and they are fab! Highly recommend. Super warm, comfortable and don't slip off my feet like some slippers do. I got a size 8, which is about a 1/2 size up from my usual, and they fit pretty good. A 7 would've felt tight. I'm contemplating getting another pair just to have on back up b/c they are so great.

    1. I should have checked before I posted (especially since it was right above)! I don't think it's an "Oh dear," though! I think it's more a "Don't mess with the people who know J Crew best!" moment! Like J Crew *really* thought they'd be able to slip this one by everyone? ;)

  9. Sale in store is an extra 50% off (in IL at least). And I left with nothing! (Although I did place an online order in all fairness - lol).

  12. This is an ancient review, but I bought the Laundress sweater comb through J. Crew a few years ago. I used it for the first time yesterday and it worked great on a Vince cashmere sweater and on a heavy Madewell cabled sweater dress.

I also just machine washed (on the hand wash/delicate cycle) my J. Crew Open Shawl-Collar Cardigan Sweater. It's still drying flat, but it didn't shrink in the wash, I can tell that much so far. Will report back later if I remember, about the final result. It says to dry clean only.

    1. Thanks for the wash tips. Do you use Woolite or special detergent? Do you wash any of your J.Crew silk items? I HATE sending things to the dry cleaners.

    2. I did use Woolite (for he machines - mine is an older front loader), I forgot to mention that!

I have not tried washing any silk items. I've had good luck with the sweaters I've washed, except for a Tippi that came out terribly. I may not have used Woolite for that one, though - it was a long time ago.

  13. Styling the cotton cable sweater and last year's retro floral inspired pants on my blog today. The sweater runs TTS, and I returned to the store to buy it in white.

  14. Ordered the ankle zip cargo pant. Was hoping for a cool, casual pant to wear with my Nike internationalists. Ordered my normal size 0. Waist fit fine, the elastic didn't bother me. What ruined them for me is the stiffness of the fabric-I could not bend my knees comfortably with out the ankles riding up and feeling like the pants were ballooning out. Was disappointed, but not surprised. I am basically over it. Not even excited to see what they roll out next because everything I like or try has a fit issue.

    1. I felt the fabric in the store and had the same opinion so didn't even try them on. It's like they're not putting any thought into their designs, I can't understand it. Or maybe there are people who like stiff pants?

  16. Hi JCAs. Has anyone tried the A-line bonded skirt in wool? There are remarks about the high slit. I'm also curious what the fabric feels like. Thick? Or regular suiting?

    ReplyDelete
  17. The slit is rather high--it can be a problem when sitting especially (I'm 5'-7", for reference) The wool is very thick (way thicker than suiting) hence the skirt feels very structured. The slit can be sewn a few inches without compromising the shape/fit. This is the best skirt they've made in a long time--I own all 3 colors and they have become a work staple this winter! I found it to fit TTS, but some reviewers recommend sizing up. Your waist mostly determines the fit, I think. The thick fabric feels like it holds you in nicely, too! Especially at the new sale price, they are a steal.

    1. Thanks for the help, Jennifer. The one review that threw me off is someone saying it could be worn in spring & summer. Then I thought it must be lighterweight wool like the suiting. I like your description better. So glad final sale isn't in effect.

    2. Early spring, perhaps. I live in TN, there is no way I could wear those skirts in 100 degrees with 100% humidity!

    3. I'm looking forward to receiving it. I'm so glad I got the skirt before final sale kicked in.

  18. If anyone's interested, here are some measurements on the a-line bonded skirt:

    Size 4 - waist = 29.25", hip = 38.75", length = 26", rear length = 26.75"
    Size 6 - waist = 30.25", hip = 39.75", length = 26.75", rear length = 27"

    Size 6P - waist = 29.25", hip = 38.75", length = 24.5", rear length = 24.75"
    Size 8P - waist = 30.25", hip = 39.75", length = 24.75", rear length = 25"

  20. Just got my factory skimmer pants in Houndstooth and love them. I took my usual Minnie and/or Winnie size. I have a pair of size 4 that I can ship out for $23, plus shipping if anyone is interested or I will return this weekend.
