  1. No thanks J Crew....never really cared for any of the third party collaborations.

    1. Really? I like a lot of them. I've gotten some pretty cool stuff. I love the Nikes, the catbird rings, an amazing Altuzurra dress, and some fantastic lulu frost stuff. I love the way J. Crew has introduced me to brands that I wouldn't otherwise know about.

  2. No shopping for me, but I have some February previews on my blog. There are some prices too.

  3. Ha! I trashed that email without even reading it. I've been getting so many sale emails; I assumed this was just the same old song. (Good thing I read this blog! Thanks, Alexis)
It's really nice that JC is offering something we haven't seen before. I'll take a look at what's offered as part of the promo, but doubt I'll buy anything. I'm trying to be really good about not buying anything more right now.

  4. Funny, my code doesn't work. It still says excluded from promo on the check out page…guess they forgot to update there system. Tried to do a sample check out with the Eberjey Bralette.

    1. OK, tried again, and it looks like the above is excluded, but why would they include it on the link from the email???

    1. Nike Blazer Mid Vintage Sneaker in black? Looks like it is included in the promo.

    2. If you're asking about the Men's high suede vintage, no, it doesn't look like they are included.

  6. Two off topic thoughts:

    1. First, J Crew would be smart to put new arrivals up now - there's going to be a captive audience in the Northeast for the next few days... :)

    2. Second, there's an article about the power of catalogs in the NYT today. Link below. Several JCA's have mentioned their disappointment at not getting a January "Style Guide", and this piece speaks to the influence that these catalogs continue to have on purchasing. (I wouldn't know - despite repeated requests and being a regular customer, JC won't put me on the mailing list.)

    2. Hi cousy - I thought the same thing re: your first point! I know I'll be doing a bit of online browsing tomorrow morning.

    3. Read a similar article in the wall st. journal last week about the power of catalogs in people's decisions and buying. I know personally MANY a time I'd not give an item online a 2nd glance, but I see it in a catalog and wind up liking it (and usually buying).

    5. I really love getting the Style Guide. Disappointed it always comes a week or so late. Drives me crazy.
Same here, Julie. I often find that I like something better when I see it in the catalogue, often it's an entire outfit!

  11. Wellfedfred, I just tried using your code on 3 different third party branded items and ALL of them are excluded. Ugh, why even bother with this promo if there are still exclusions??!?

  15. Okay, more OT from me. I finally looked on Pinterest at the February images.

I like both colorways of the fireworks floral. And I really like the look of the chambray regent blazer. I know this has been a love/hate item for JCA's. I'm fine with the standing collar, but usually one-button blazers don't work for me. We'll see. And I share the love of the standing collar leather jacket.

I'm concerned about two things. First, I wonder if they have fixed the D'orsay shoes - the fall ones were awful - the fit was off and they were very stiff and uncomfortable. Second, the sleeveless blouses seem to have the same very deep slit as shattered print one I bought a few weeks ago on deep sale. I'm not squeamish about a little cleavage, but seriously, this top showed a lot of my bra. I altered it by about 1.5 inches and now I love it. But I'm surprised they repeated that.

The denim is awful, awful, awful. I despise the bleached, ripped and skin-tight styles. These features look bad on everyone and are really low rent. (There, I said it. I feel better now).

  17. At first I thought this was a good deal for the women's section but it's mostly things that go on sale eventually (Demylee, Point Sur, Lulu Frost). Don't think it's worth it for any beauty-related products either.

The only things that are tempting are the Nikes and sunglasses.

The men's section is another story, as it includes Alden and Barbour pieces I never see go on sale.

  20. I got a style guide in store this weekend. I was not thrilled. I think there were two things I liked. One was the Baja hoodie for $69.50, it looked cute and comfy. Not really any cute shoes or jewelry. Are people still wearing their statement necklaces? What about the "Bubble necklace"? I stopped wearing mine when everybody and their bother and sister knocked it off. Turned me off to see everyone in town with one around their neck. Thoughts?

    1. Still wearing many of the statement necklaces, but more sparingly. Only bought the Factory versions as I figured the style would not last many years. Agree with you about the ubiquity of the bubble necklaces, I have several (knockoffs) and have not worn them at all since last spring. I am actually considering painting designs on the bubbles to make them more unique, and possibly detaching some of the beads to reshape. I paid so little for them I don't mind experimenting.

    2. I still wear a lot of my statement necklaces. I have really loved my Firestarter necklace from this year and I have a few of the clear gemstone kind of ones that I wear a ll the time. My favorite way to wear is just peeking out from a button down shirt. I never had any of the bubble necklaces though.

    3. I wear a lot of statement necklaces, but let's just say my jewelry has been making a statement before J. Crew started doing it. I'm a bit of a bling whore. Ha.

    4. I still wear my statement necklaces. I still try on the bubble necklaces to see if they go w/outfits, but find they're more spring/summer wear for me.

  24. I checked out the pinterest page and feel pretty indifferent about this rollout. I don't dislike it but don't see much for my lifestyle. I like the New Balance sneakers in gold/salt and bet those will sell fast. And isn't "structured flutter tee" just another word for peplum in this instance?

  25. Can I ask: has anyone used either the Nike or New Balance shoes as actual running shoes? Are they really just for running errands on the weekend? I need some new running shoes and I can't tell if these are meant just as show or could they be used to run in? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would not use either for running. Both Nike and new balance have a whole line of running shoes that are labelled as such, so I don't think either intends for these to be used for actual running.

      Delete
    2. I have the NB and, in a pinch, could use them for some light exercise if I had to, but otherwise I would say it's a weekend kickin' around shoe.

      Delete
    3. I have the JC nikes and NB - they're comfy but not what I'd really call an exercise shoe - poor to average cushioning and would wear out fast with heavy use. I take a 3 mile walk daily and while I *have* worn my JC new balances on walks, they really aren't the greatest for that, and I was surprised to find how fast the sole material started showing wear. Strange to sell an "athletic" type shoe that can't be used for actual exercise.

      Delete
    4. thanks for the advice!! They're very cute but I guess I'm not in the market for non-athletic athletic shoes!

      Delete
    5. Lisa Taylor, totally unrelated to jcrew but I have found Brooks to be some of the best running shoes I have ever owned. I keep going back to them-they're awesome!

      Delete
  26. I own the New Balance 620s and only wear them for walking. They don't have much arch support and have a narrow toe box. Also, I don't think they have as much cushioning as other athletic shoes I've tried.
