Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. Got an email this morning about the new Tilly sweater. Similar to the Tippi but more relaxed with a shorter hem. Curious to hear others thoughts. As much as I love my Tippis this new version does not interest me. Wider but shorter will not work for me. Where have the feminine fitted pieces gone? I am sure some will like it but for me this seems like another miss. Anyone have a chance to try it yet?

    1. JessF. I love Tippis, have a huge collection and did try on the Tilly since there were more color choices in store. I thought the sizing was the same as the Tippi. But did not like the fit, it is shorter and slightly boxier. I found it too short on me, and I am only 5'1". I don't like raising my arms and revealing skin, neither does the rest of the world. I like the Tippi since I can wear them with something underneath, tee or buttondown or on their own, for me this would not be an option with the Tilly. To me this is the same situation as the Ceces vs. Emmas, J Crew messing with a perfect item and not getting it right.

    2. I didn't like the Tilly, too. Though I love that the sleeves are regular length and not the same as the Tippi's 3/4 length, the body is short, and I'm 5'0 with a short torso, it's just not long enough. I read somewhere that it's perfect to wear with their high-rise jeans. Go figure!

I wonder how the new oversize merino is like. I ordered it and will get the package today...will report back on the fit/material.

    3. Yeah, I agree with you JRSConifer. I love my tippis to death, but the tillys are too short for my height. I'm your height. I don't like how wide it looks. I'll stick to my tippis!

    4. Geez, if the shorties don't like the Tiily who is the target market? But JSR, I did like that it did have full length sleeves, forgot about that.

    5. Thanks for all the responses. I am 5'4 so it will definitely not be to my liking. I guess they will be good for high rise jeans but I can tell you the sale section in both stores I visit are full of the high rise lookout jeans and they have not been moving. I agree that I would like to see the old Tippi with full length sleeves. Now that would be a nice update not a boxier shorter fit. Sigh... At least I keep saving money. Also I think I did walk by a table full of Tilly's the other day but didn't look twice as I thought they were Tippi's and don't need more at this time.

    6. @JSR i tried the oversize merino sweater and the fit was strange.
I did not like it at all.

    7. :: REVIEW ::

I just received the Slouchy merino sweater in shoreline ivory. Ordered PXS since it says online, 'oversize fit'. The body is slouchy, which is fine for my 36B chest. But putting on the sleeves was weird. It was tight from wrist through forearm. Drop shoulders (boo..), and its dolman cut-lots of room from upper arms through the armpits.
I didn't realize that when I laid the sweater flat on the carpet, the body is cut in a V shape; roomy on the top, then it tapers at the end - a really weird design. Not sure if trying on a regular size will make a difference.
The sweater was a dud. First design fail of 2015!

  4. Anyone know when the next new rollout will be?

    1. The first Spring (!) rollout will be at Garden State Plaza on January 6th. Other stores follow by about 2-3 weeks, I think? I will be visiting the store, as I am desperate to (hopefully) see something that doesn't resemble the last several rollouts, which I thought were completely underwhelming.

    2. Thanks for the tip! I'll be checking out the store next week. I thought the last (spring?) rollout was underwhelming as well. There are several sweaters that I have my eye on, but I refuse to pay full price at this point in the season.

    1. Totally agree. I bought all of two items at JC in the past six months, and nothing from Factory. :(

  7. Anyone have a review of Madewell's Cabletwist scarf and hat?

I love the marled yarn, but it is final sale and there are no reviews on the site for this item, which makes me nervous....

  9. I probably won't stop in to a store but I did pick up a few things online with the latest cuts - a pair of grey full length wool Minnies that popped back in my size, the white chevron bead popover and the blue sequin side stripe blouse. Other than that, the sale section is one big snooze fest.

  10. I will be going later on today to do a return, not expecting to make any purchases at J Crew. Will be holding my gift cards until there is something worth purchasing. I will be stopping by Madewell to check out their sale section.

  11. I went in yesterday and the store was empty! The sale section was once again picked over and sweaters were pilling. No thank you! There were racks and racks of excess clothing that couldn't sell. I did see some new bikinis. One was gold metallic!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That gold metallic would look good on me if I was in a time machine back when I was 19, incredibly thin and toned. Not so cool or good now with momma pooch after several kids. Not even the gold bathing suit would be worth venturing out in for me unless I wore a caftan to hide it. I'm sure someone will rock in it, though.

    2. That's a hard look to wear, they also have a one piece. All I could think of was Bo Derek or maybe my outfit if I ever was an extra in a James Bond movie. I didn't pick up anything so far on sale, I'm super irritated that my oversize cardigan from the early fall rollout already has a hole in the shoulder seam when I went to wear it on NYE.

    3. I thought stripper pole when I saw that gold bikini online, lol!!

  12. I went the other day and only tried on the Primaloft vest. It has stretchy side panels so I could've done either XS or S. I think it's expensive for what it is. Nothing else in the store was speaking to me, and the sale section was huge and unattractive looking. They had so many neon tees from last summer, mixed in with zipper tops and shopworn sweaters from the fall.

On a Madewell note, has anybody had CS do a store search for an item recently? (I don't have a B&M nearby). I ordered the oversized chambray shirt (a4532) in XS after reading reviews that it was huge. When I received it, I wish I'd ordered the S instead but it's now sold out online. Anybody seen it in their B&M, or have luck contacting CS to search stores? I wasn't sure if they were doing that anymore since theoretically online is supposed to represent both warehouse and store availability.

    1. silver-lining, I would call a store directly, try the one at Park Meadows or Cherry Creek, CO. They are really nice there. Plus I am heading to the one at PM later today and will check if I see it and let you know.

    2. The Tysons Corner VA store has always been really helpful too. Last time I was looking for something I called them (since they're my local store) and they didn't have it but called two other stores for me and put the item on hold! Good luck ;)

    3. As with JC, I've had more success looking for items in stores by phoning a store and asking them to check inventory in all the stores. They either have a more real-time view than the 800-folks or they are more willing to tell you about stores that are only showing as having one or two of an item. Good luck!

    4. silver-lining, you may also try just calling Madewell Customer Service at 866 544 1937. I bought a sweater in my local store and found a hole after I came back home. I check the item online it was sold out. So I just called and CS ordered one from a store for me. I also ask for a free return label so I don't need to go to the store to return the defect one. He granted that as well. Nice custom service!

    5. Thanks for the feedback, all! I tried CS first and they just told me it was sold out everywhere after checking the website (ha, I could've just done that myself). I tried Tysons Corner and talked to a super nice SA that checked into it and called me back and confirmed that she couldn't locate one in any store. Very nice of her to check nationwide, she totally didn't have to do that. Of course, you know this means it will pop back tomorrow after the 40% is over. ; )

  13. I have an in-store only code for $20 off of $100 which stacks with other discounts. I will not be using it, although I have tried : ) It was given out in store as a card during holiday shopping time, so I don't know if the code alone will work, but if any one wants to try, l;eave an e-mail address here and I will send it to you. HTH someone!

  14. Got an email today from Jcrew about all the new things added to the sale...and yet when I looked around on the site, there are still things like cashmere infinity scarves for a whopping full price of about 300$ and about 5 colours available! Not even any reviews written about them. It might be time for them to take a closer look at what they are putting on sale vs keeping at regular price.

    1. I looked after getting the email as well.....I could not find many "New" items added....just a gimick.

  15. Went to the store at Short Pump in Virginia... the sale section there seriously SUCKS! They never have anything. Just tshirts, tanks and ugly sweaters. I miss living in NYC..the 5th ave and the Soho store always had a much better sale section. Back in NYC I couldn't leave the store without dropping at least $200. Oh well I guess being in Virginia is better for my wallet?

I did manage to find a couple of full price things I absolutely adored - mainly the green/black floral tuxedo pants and the double zip matelasse top. Now where is that blanket jcrew sale when you need one!! I swear every time I find something to buy there is never a sale. I'm afraid they will sell out too so I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet. Any of you savvy j.crew shoppers know if there will be another sale on full price stuff coming soon?

    1. I would never buy anything at J.Crew for full price. I don't think the quality is worth it. I won't buy anything unless it's at least half price, and 95% of what they are selling right now I wouldn't take for free.

      Delete
    2. As discussed previously...J Crew needs to make changes
      - we want the previous quality restored
      - we want vibrant colors, patterns and prints
      - we want longer pants, dresses skirts and tops ( but still make minis for the younger gals)
as for pricing...if the higher quality is there fine. If not adjust your prices from the beginning and have a sale at the end of ever season not every 2weeks...But I would still atke a coat if offered at a bigger discount right now....IMO

    3. It seems the universal % off promos have increased in the past year or so. I bet there will be one after the first substantial spring rollout.

I agree w Denee about the fifty percent rule .... I rarely purchase anything from J Crew that isn't half off FP. That's about where I place the value on most stuff, especially in the past year. If I start feeling twitchy that something is going to sell out in my size, I remind myself that there's a 90% chance of a similar item rolling out next time. If it doesn't reappear in a similar style at retail, you can bet it will be recycled at factory in polyester (garments) or plastic (shoes). And I have had some luck w pop backs, too!

    4. I think Mickey is going to make changes this coming year. I think we will see an end to constant promos and sale only every so often. This and a stream line of merchandise...should help with the "sad" sale section we all see way too often...

    5. I wonder if J Crew can survive another "poor performance" year ?

      Delete
    6. I will not be shopping factory again. I dislike the (even worst than retail) price changes. The quality is poor as well. I am officially done with factory....now about retail....I also except big changes from Mickey and the gang...or someone is going to get fired... Carolyn

    7. Anyone in the fashion industry care to comment on what J cREW NEEDS TO DO TO GET IN THE BLACK AGAIN...

    8. @Unknown I have been happy with the items I have bought @ JCFactory regarding the quality, everything I buy is always on sale. I don't see much difference between the 2 stores. The Factory near me was much more festive at Christmas time too.

Probably more poly shirts at Factory, and shoes not leather, but am not buying those.
As for the Retail store such a snooze this year, boring and the same sale stuff hanging around forever, mark the stuff down to get rid of it and stop with final sale and maybe just maybe it will go.

  16. Ran up to the local factory store yesterday to make a return. Store almost empty. Came back, web order had arrived and several items were not only cheaper and marked down further at the factory store - after all that there was a 50% everything going on at the store. So this morning I went back to the factory store with my order, did my return/rebuy, came home nice p.a. The store was even emptier today.

I think it would make sense for JC to have 2 retail divisions, say, "JC Classics" and "JC NOW". And then at the end of each season, compare results.

  17. Decided to check the Georgie fabric Tassel on sale and I had the $20 off $100 card. So went to the store and for all you Tippi fans, my store was carrying a good selection of colors. New one which I purchased was in Heather lilac (HLA). Think the color of the lambswool pointelle sweater from early in the season. Not on sale but with discount $65. I love the color and in a Tippi, I am very happy. Maybe there is hope for JCrew in 2015
