Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Local stores are offering 30% off sale items right now.

  2. I went to the B&M at Westfield Mall in UTC (San Diego) and they were doing the additional 20% off everything, including sale items, which were eligible for an additional 30% off. The only other promos going on were for the vintage cotton tees. I tried on and will review some new arrivals later, but overall was not impressed. The store was empty too. I ended up just getting the Jackie cardi in dark burgundy for less than $12 since the store was willing to stack student discounts (I don't have a JC card).

On another note, this store also had a lot of the hooded basket weave jackets, which I think sold out online already. I bought the jacket a month ago in SF and haven't seen it in any B&M's since. It's been perfect for the rain that's been hitting the Bay Area, and maybe that's why SD stores have it in stock since the weather is milder. Anyway just a heads up in case anyone is interested in it!

  3. Factory - From the Facebook page. "Shopping in stores? Bring along your smartphone and show us you're a Facebook fan at checkout. We'll give you an extra 10% off $100+ each time you make a purchase through March 30th."

On the retail side, review of the new ikat dress in this post.

  4. OT-I tried to place an order online this morning and kept getting an error message that there was an issue with billing details. I have an account set up, saved card and always use my iPad to order...and have never had this issue. I changed cards...still had the issue. Clicked on live chat...the guy asked how he could help...I told him the problem...he asked what browser I was using and I said it was my iPad so it must be chrome and he responded with "we are aware that our check out process does not work with chrome...please use Firefox or Internet Explorer on a PC". I asked if this was because of the new website update and he said "no, I've been getting complaints about this for quite a while" I then ask if they plan on fixing it and he said "we currently have no plans at this time, we suggest our customers use a PC that is not an apple product". He was unable to take the order via chat and said I needed to call the 800# or place my order on a PC. Again, I've never had issues before...but what in the world? Could they make it any more difficult to shop there? It's too much effort...I'm not even going to buy now. I just can't imagine a company saying we know about this issue and are doing nothing about it. I ran marketing organizations for a long time and this is crazy...companies should be making it as easy as possible for people to buy their goods. I guess their revenues are so high they don't need non PC users. rant over.

    1. My opinion on this is that one of your items is not available but it's not showing that way in your Bag. I use Safari on a Mac laptop and that has never caused me trouble. If you try calling customer service with your items, I'll bet one of them is not available. This has caused me billing problems in the past (which were not actually billing problems but inventory problems on their user interface).

    2. Thanks Cate...I tried it and all items were available. Although they said it isn't because of the site update...I have a feeling it may be...I have never had this issue before. The CS person on the phone also said they don't recommend using an iPad on their site. Very odd.

    3. I purchase on my ipad all the time using safari. The one time I got the billing message it was an actual billing issue with my card. I had recently updated my address and did not update my jcrew account. Perhaps check over all your billing info? If that doesn't work, you could contact your bank. Worked for me. HTH!

    4. I use the iPad/Safari all the time. The response you got reminds me of the time management told the CS reps to tell complaining customers that "pilling is a sign of high quality cashmere."

    5. They sure making it difficult to buy their stuff sometimes!

    6. "we currently have no plans at this time, we suggest our customers use a PC that is not an apple product". Lol! Mickey Drexler is on Apple's board of directors.

    7. I only use my iPad or Mac with Safari, so I feel that response was totally off script.

  5. I have a few items in my cart, but I realize that I am now totally unmotivated to buy unless there is a 40% off sale. I bought a fair amount for my girls and me over the last few months, but most of it was very steeply discounted - 75% off at least. And merch is moving so fast to sale that I rarely have to wait long.

Isn't FS ending soon? Isn't the end often in March or April?

    1. I agree- waiting for an additional percentage off because J Crew has trained us that there will be one eventually! I did actually buy a striped tee at full price but that's been the only thing (at full price) for a very long time!

    2. With this recent card members-only promo, it seems JC is really pushing for more card membership. I'm really curious if they got the numbers they were looking for and whether they will continue this push by offering more card members-only perks.

I'm not a card member, and it would take far more perks to outweigh the hassles of owning their card. It would probably take something along the lines of at least 25% off everything card members-only promos. And these promos would have to occur regularly, like at least once a month, to the exclusion of any promos for non-card holders. And none of this, well, we'll follow up a card members-only promo with a promo for everybody. If they keep extending the promo to everyone, I'll just bide my time and wait for that. Also, none of this, oh, and during the 20% off card members-only promo, we'll reduce prices of brand new items by 20% or more, so that people can still purchase some items at 20% off without the card.

What I'm really curious to see is how soon they will offer a global percent off to everyone. I have a feeling JC will not be able to go without one before the end of this month, if not sooner. We'll see soon enough if I have to eat my words. :)

  6. Another question: I really like the Evie sandal in navy, which the models are wearing in a lot of the clothing photos. But they don't seem to be offered for sale, only the copper color. Did they already sell out or have they not been offered yet?

  8. I visited mine and walked out with the silk cat-print blouse thinking I'd return it if I don't think I'll get the use out of it, but it was final sale! D: Will they let me return it for store credit at least? I didn't know the sale stuff was on final sale...how annoying.

    1. It might depend on who you get. J.Crew Rule (or Ja Rule?) is anything ending in .99 is FINAL SALE. Oh, J.Crew, why do you continue to torture us with this practice???

  10. OT- has Factory always used the double diamond on their tags? I found something on ebay and the seller states it's retail but tag has double diamonds. No date given and Googling hasn't helped

    1. I believe they have. Factory has double-diamonds on the clothing label and price tag while retail does not. J.Crew retail jewelry will have a "J.Crew" engraved somewhere on the back of it (Pave Link Earrings (it's _really_ small, Crystal Ovals Bracelet) or on a little gold circle by the necklace clasp. Ask to see the price tag with an item number, or the EBay seller should give it to you if it's a tiny jewelry tag. The item number should be 5 numbers or one letter (usually "A") and 4 numbers. You will need that for a Google search. Type in "J.Crew item number" or "J.Crew Factory item number". Even if the item is older and sold out, you may still come up with a web page that will give you an idea of what you are getting. Not having much experience with EBay, I did read a post once that sellers/resellers may not know the difference between retail and factory. So, buyer beware. Good luck!

    2. JenniferD- thank you so much for your detailed info! I'm relatively new back to JCrew and new to ebay so this is really helpful in making informed decisions :-).

    3. Muffin, definately ask for the item number or a picture of it added to listing. I have had amazing luck, searching with the item number. Usually, there is a review from Gigi, even if it is an older item. It has saved me from terrible purchases on EBay.

    4. Thanks, JRSConifer. :)

Muffin - definitely google j crew + the style#. If you don't get a hit, put in j crew + jacket + style# or whatever the item is. Double diamonds definitely = factory.

They just released style numbers beginning with 'A' as of 2013. Style #s from other years are usually all numbers.

    5. I've landed on several Ebay sites when Googling items for styling options, and seen lots of Factory items advertised as retail. Another example is that J.Crew retail earrings are _never_ on cards that you hang on a rack. Those are only Factory. Again, I don't know if sellers are trying to pull a fast one, or if they have so much merchandise to move that they simply don't know.

    6. Thank you all for your input! Love how everyone is so helpful here. I will be searching and buying which much greater confidence now.
