JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. This might be the wrong place to post, but for those of you who missed out on the J.Crew's lace front sweatshirt, Talbots has one in gray, pink and cream: Item # BA354486.

  2. Help! I ordered the café capri in natural, thinking it would be a great neutral. However, I can't find one thing in my closet that would look better with 'natural' than with white, black, or another basic. Any ideas? Not FS, so may return... Thanks, ladies!

    1. Wendy, I also have a pair of the CCs in natural - tags on, still. I picked them up from the Clearance Center months ago for $15 but I still haven't worn them or given them up! I think they would look good with navy, kelly green, bright pink, or pastels. But you're right, those colors also look good with the other neutrals you mentioned. I hope you get some good ideas - I'll be checking back! :)

    2. Wendy, try them with some of the colors that Taylor mentioned, and also red. Try print and striped tops with a white or ivory background. Or layer a bright top under your neutral jackets and cardigans with the pants. Good luck! :)

    3. Wendy, in addition to the suggestions above, I would wear the capris with pinks, reds, blues, and turquoise.

I don't have the café capri, but I do have the chino shorts in natural - here's a polyvore set of some of the ways I've worn them.

      Hope this helps!

    4. Wendy - I don't know exactly how light or deep the shade is, but I've worn khaki tan w/brown and also with orange. I love the suggestions you've gotten and innisfree's polyvore. If you're not feelin' 'em, return 'em. I got some tan skimmers 2 yrs ago from the Crewlet thinking I'd wear them all the time and I didn't.

Definitely don't wear a red top with them if you have any plans to go into Target. Their uniform ruined that combo for me. lol

    5. Hi Wendy - I picked up the cotton Café Capris in Natural, Desert and Black on promo a while ago. I think the style is more casual than the Campbell Capris, so once we make it out of the 30's here, I plan to wear them with all the cotton t-shirts I've been stockpiling this winter - floral, bar stripe, weird abstract prints, and pithy sayings. I may throw the Schoolboy Blazer in Chambray (A2708) over them. I love the Perfect Fit Tank and Ballet Button Tee, and bought several along with the Perfect Fit Mixed Tape Cardigan in coordinating colors, so I now have multiple “Casual Friday Twinsets.” I also have some Factory colorblock boatneck t-shirts which should look great too (sorry, I believe they sold out of these last fall). Pants can be worn with flats, sandals, or sneakers, depending on how dressy or casual you want to go. I hope this helps!

  4. Greetings JCAs - Any thoughts on the Piped Silk Tee (A0405) or Lace Sleeve T-Shirt (A2179) (NOT the sweatshirt) in terms of looks and sizing? I'm always looking for short-sleeved summer tops to layer under blazers. Unfortunately, the Piped Silk Tee is online-only so I couldn't try it on in store. Thanks much!

    1. Hi Jennifer, i have reviewed the lace sleeve tee on my blog, both in ivory and navy.
Just go down the the postings after the last one.

    2. Thanks Ina - It looks very t-shirty, but I may throw the white one in my bag (it's marked down but not FS) to hit the free-shipping target tomorrow since it's the last day of 30% off. I looked at your other reviews too. I think the crochet lace tank is super cute, and in all the colors! It's funny - I ordered the side-slit tunic online earlier this week and only the Navy color is shipping - all the other colors are backordered but when I visited a store they had a ton! Cheers - Jennifer.

    4. Its a cotton/ponte . so its thicker than t-shirt fabric....again I like it.

  5. The piped silk tee is great: good qualty silk and some stretch which makes it very comfortable to wear. You can easily style it up or down. I wear it with a schoolboy blazer to the office, with a cardigan off duty. TTS

    1. Thanks fleur de lys - I like the cardigan option for this blouse. Sizing for me on JC's silk tees is a real toss up - I've ordered my regular size 4 only to find it's way too big, so size 2 is becoming my TTS. I may order both sizes and return what doesn't fit. Thanks so much! Jennifer
