JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. OT and I shared in the weekly retailer's thread, but also wanted to drop it here. I reviewed a few shoes from the SJP/Sarah Jessica Parker Collection in this post.

  2. Could use styling ideas for the Pleated Chiffon Blouse in Gingham (item 03784). I have it in the pinot noir (burgundy) color, but I can't figure out how to wear it. The deep slit in front is bothering me too. Any ideas appreciated! For dealing with the slit, for what to wear it with, or for jewelry!

    1. I love this shirt! For under...I wear the perfect fit tank with built in bra in white...you can still see it...but not much. I'm small on top...so it may not work as well if you arent. I also think you could wear a camp under...but I would still wear a bra with that. I wear it with boyfriend jeans rolled up and heels, dark rinse toothpicks...black maritime blazer and flats, pencil skirt and schoolboy, etc. as we all know, I struggle with accessories but I think it would look great with any clear crystal necklace. I have worn it with the multi strand pearl necklace and liked it.

    2. One of my favorites, though I have it in navy (reads black). I usually style it with a pile of pearls. Crystal necklace sounds great, by the way, thanks reaganflowers;-)
I added a few extra stitches to make the slit less deep and usually wear a vintage v neck tee under...asit is usually chilly in the office. I combine it with cropped grey psnts, navy pants, orange (or papaya in j crew speak) and a cardigan or blazer. HTH

    3. reaganflowers and fleur de lys, thank you so much. I love your ideas. I hadn't thought of pearls with it, that would look great, and I hadn't tried a blazer with it either. I think I really need to take a few extra stitches in the slit. I've thought of doing that, but it's great to hear from someone who's done it successfully. Thanks again!

    4. It's a very cute top! My short answer would be to wear it with anything but blue denim (to avoid looking too "country"). I think it actually looks great with the model's beigey yellow pants- a fresh combination although I could never wear yellow pants myself ;-)

For jewelry, I wouldn't want to do anything big or heavy...I'd probably do something simple/ delicate on a long chain that hangs lower than the slit, or even a shoryer simple pendant necklace if it's ultra-delicate. I would want to complement the lightness of the chiffon with something equally light and feminine.

If the slit's way too deep, I'd add a stitch or two, or wear a cute bra underneath...I don't think I'd layer under.

    5. Just wanted to add- my comment about looking too "country" with blue jeans was only meant to apply to the gingham version of the top!

    6. Hi babayaganyc, thank you! I liked the top with the model's pants too. I thought they might be that peanut colored chinos (can't think of the real color name) rather than yellow. I like your idea of wearing more delicate jewelry or a pendant with this top. I tried the cupcake necklace with it and something about it didn't feel right, maybe the top was too light and airy for such a weighty necklace. I actually like the way it looks with blue denim and I agree it might give a country vibe, but I kind of like that :)

    7. Totally! As long as you work it, it's fine! Very "Ralph Lauren muse" to wear it with blue jeans : )

  5. New promo! HAPPYSHOPPING gets 25% off. The site isn't showing it at the top bar, but I'm seeing it on product pages. Don't have more details than that, yet. It must be sitewide as JCAs shared, yesterday, would be the new promo.

  6. For anyone considering the Audrey suede pumps in deep chartreuse, know that, as suspected, they are nowhere near the color they appear to be online. They are much more green IRL. Very much more. They look like someone got sick on them IMO.
Fit wise, I'd say that they run true to size as I ordered a half size larger and it was slightly too big. They felt wholly uncomfortable to me but that could be because I had the wrong size, However I highly doubt that they are any more comfortable in the right size. That said, the style is really on point and I can see them looking really sexy if you can walk in them.
