J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The March catalog (click here to view) is still up. However, the latest APRIL catalog is not. As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posted several images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).

Even better! It looks like J.Crew is offering 25% on all orders with promo code HEYSPRING. Plus, they are running 30% off everything for cardmembers (no min! both online and in stores!) with promo code CARDLOVE. This offer expires March 25, 2014. The fine print includes:
*25% discount valid in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com from March 19, 2014, 12:01am ET through March 25, 2014, 11:59pm ET. To redeem online, enter code HEYSPRING in the promo code box at checkout.  *30% discount valid in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com from March 19, 2014, 12:01am ET through March 25, 2014, 11:59pm ET on purchases made using a J.Crew Credit Card. Not valid in Canadian J.Crew stores. To redeem online, enter code CARDLOVE in the promo code box at checkout. Subject to credit approval.  *Offers not valid in Liquor Store or Ludlow Shops; in 769 Madison Avenue, Bloor Street or J.Crew Factory stores; at jcrewfactory.com; or on phone orders. Offers cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or combined with any other offer. Offers not valid on women's denim, men's Ludlow suiting and footwear, Garments for Good or babies' merchandise or on select Collection, wedding or third-party branded merchandise. In-store discounts automatically taken at the register. Limit one promotional code per order. Offers valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms are subject to change.
After checking the new arrivals, here are my top two picks:

* Thanks to J.Crew, I am into baseball caps. So of course I spied the Eyelet baseball cap (item A4331; $39.50), which is adorable for Spring and Summer.

* The Stretch eyelet dress (item A2982; $158.00) is such a lovely dress for those warm-weather days. Looks super comfortable, yet dressy, at the same time. Just not feeling that starting out price point. Ouch!

With my top two picks in mind... I am once again kind of "meh" with the overall April roll-out. I am left to wonder where all the cute, cotton dresses under $100, are? Where are all the cute skirts? Where are the dresses *and* skirts that are knee length?!? (Some of us JCAs would like to bend over without flashing a crowd. Seriously.) Here is to hoping Summer has a little bit more for me.

While I am questioning some things, I have to ask about the styling of the Point Sur slim stacker Japanese selvedge jean in klutey wash (item A3614; $258.00). According to the description: "extra-long inseam... You're gonna want to cuff it to show off the premium selvedge." Is this the new trend now? I only have seen Sarah Jessica Parker rocking this look for what seems like ages. But I am not sure about it. Thoughts?

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I love your top two picks. The extra wide cuffed denim is not for me personally. I like several dresses in this rollout and there is an a-line eyelet cotton skirt that looks nice. Some of the tops look nice too. The jewelry is a big fail again for me, this stuff is just not my style. I don't know why J. Crew can't mix in some normal jewelry with all the bling/stone and Lulu Frost. Anyway I agree the rollout has a quiet/neutral vibe to it, but I'm kind of into that lately so I don't mind it.

  2. Love the new rollout! For you Sperry fans, item 20508 is the Authentic Original boatshoe in platinum gold @$98 -- and I found that same shoe at Marshall's over the weekend for $49.99. LOVE them -- very soft!

  3. I love the pink floral short, but the 4 inch inseam is a no go. I wish they'd make a 5 inch length for those of us older than 10.

  4. The price points are crazy. THe eyelet midi skirt is $178?!! Really?

  5. I got the blue and white merino mesh sleeve sweater and some of the jersey pocket tanks that I have wanted since it was free shipping and card member promo. Otherwise there is nothing I need TODAY.

  6. I ordered the white eyelet skirt and a cashmere tee I have been wanted as those take forever to get marked down.

The skirt is expensive but I am so desperate for skirts after years of 18" short ones that I can't wear.

    1. I bought that skirt too for the same reason!

  9. I reviewed a lot of the new arrivals on my blog: drapey skirt in geo print, lace sleeve sweatshirt, lace sleeve top, crochet lace tank, eyelet dress, clutch in black\multi,j'taime tee and more. You can check it out here.

    1. Thank you Ina. You just saved me from having to return the lace sleeve sweatshirt. I'm also seriously reconsidering the seersucker eyelet dress.

  11. Some nice pieces, but, I am with you Alexis. The dresses are not as eye catching as I had hoped.

  12. I am so underwhelmed. Love the jewels, and the crocheted tank lace but that's about it.

  13. The only two things I really like are the pink floral shorts and the crocheted lace tank (thanks for the review Ina -- the tank looks great on you!). One other thing I love is the girls' daisy denim jacket -- it's $78 less %. I tried it on in-store last week and because it is stretchy, I can fit the size 14, which is probably about a women's size 2. Got one for both me and my daughter, who still likes to match...

    1. Just tried the navy crochet tank with the andie shorts in railroad stripe and i think it is a perfect outfit:)

  14. Love the colorblock cut-out swimsuit. Really love.

I think some of the dresses hold promise, but frankly I can't really see them with the bright background. Anyone else have the same impression?

And just like last year, they lead a spring rollout with the (lengthy) sweater offerings. It's been a long cold winter and many of us would have been thrilled if they had led with the skirts or shorts or dresses or...

And the jewelry continues to not be my thing. It feels like they have shown the same styles over and over for the last couple of years.

    1. They have put out so many iterations of similar stone/jewel necklaces that I've wondered how they keep coming up with new names or how they can keep them straight.

    2. You JCAs are going to be the ruin of me. I bought the Peacoat Trench last night and swore I was done for shopping for March. And now, the colorblock cutout swimsuit ... it *is* to die for.

    3. Reed and bamboo - I'm looking forward to your review... :)

  15. Ouch, those cuffed denim pants! To show off the expensive selvedge? Huh. Wouldn't it be simpler just to leave the price tag on, dangling conspicuously?

    1. Ha ha ha!!! Yes, leaving the price tag on would do a better job. ;)

      Delete
    2. I don't get why the selvedge is so cool? What makes it different from other selvedges??

      Delete
    3. Isn't it much cooler to NOT show off the selvedge? "What, this old thing?"

      Delete
  16. The Merino Texture-panel and Mesh Sleeve sweaters look interesting, but I was hoping for some cotton sweaters for Spring.

The J' taime tee, pink floral short and pre-order Workshirt in pink plaid caught my eye. I don't remember seeing workshirts before. The website description says nothing about the fit, but does state it's lightweight. I'm wondering if that means it's sheer.

Agree about the Stretch Eyelet Dress, so cute, but too expensive for me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Where is the color?! Seriously, I am about over the muted pastels. One of the things I love about J. Crew are their delicious bright colors - where have they gone?

I second the longer skirt plea. I don't understand what the problem is with a good a-line.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Agree on the longer (not midi), but norm length skirts. I miss the pretty summer skirts.
I like the dress that Alexis posted and that's it. The jeans are so out there. I can't imagine them looking good on anyone. Where are the pretty cover ups? Even the crew cuts have nothing cute or fun for the boys.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes! Normal length skirts!!! And without a ridiculous price tag would help. :)

      Delete
    2. I like midi skirts, too. Am very sick of skinny jeans and mini skirts and have too many at this point to ever get any more. The pencil skirts are the only "normal" hem length skirts and I'm getting pretty bored with those. Whatever happened to dresses?

      Delete
    3. Love the midi skirts too. Waiting for them to come down in price but I am very tempted. I am hoping we end up with more dresses for the summer roll as options, and that are not insanely expensive either.

  19. This April roll-out is underwhelming, especially the shoes. The strappy brown sandals are not even cute...you see those at Urban Outfitters or F21.
I enjoyed looking at Crewcuts (especially the dresses) more than Women's.

    1. What I like:
-Silk eyelet bib top (might get with the 30 promo)
-Point Sur vintage crop jean in griffin wash ($265 sad)
-Collection linen silk dress (wish it was offered in other colors-the ivory is pretty...but impractical. Wish J.Crew designed interesting dresses like this)
-Collection eyelet jumper in navy (drop waist?? my 4'11 height would not stand a chance-ha!)
-Shimmer cap toe espadrilles (why oh why does it not come in half sizes or in 5?..would have been a great alternative to expensive Chanel's or Loeffler Randall design..ugh J.Crew!)

    1. I just got the April catalogue in the mail- I feel like a total freak for wishlisting only crewcuts dresses... (hope that's because they're awesome, not just 'cause I turned 39 last week...)

    2. ah, and apparently I am not the only one- just ordered the girl's embroidered chambray dress which is already at low stock in size 16! It's so cute! Just hope it's not J Crew adult short length :)

      Delete
    3. Let us know about the length. My daughters are just about 5 feet tall (wear size 14) and while we have enjoyed a lot of Crewcuts dresses over the years, they are often on the short side.

      Delete
    4. That is my fear- I'll report back in the reviews when it arrives. At worst, I can shorten it to make a gorgeous top!

  21. I don't know what to do- see if something goes on sale or buy now at 30% off. I got the antique floral dress full price in store and now my size is still available 99. and has been up to 50% off that- I could have gotten that dress for 50! So that's my dilemma...

    2. That model (the one in sweater/scarf/shorts) looks like she is thinking, "Where am I, Talbots?". The bikini bottom color placement is awful!

  23. I like the eyelet midi skirt. Not worth full price but I would pay the promo price. I am a sucker for white eyelet and have a few eyelet dresses and schoolboy blazer that I wear often in the summer months. A little off topic, but I just bought the transport tote from Madewell in the English saddle and love it. I was lucky to get a $25 off $100 coupon that I used toward it but think the cost per wear on this would justify paying full price. I think it's much better quality than the J Crew equivalent tote (can't remember the name) and it has a side pocket for phone and keys, etc., hat the J Crew tote does not.

    3. My fault :) I meant both totes. Thanks again!

    4. For the money, I'd go with the Transport Tote. I saw the Downing in store and thought that the leather was thinner and it was overall lower quality than the Transport.

    5. Ivanka, ah, got it! Silver_lining, ITA!

  24. So, there is free shipping today, too. Anyway, I got the puff sleeve blazer in white and the days of the week tee in French (dark grey) at 30% off. Not bad.

  25. JC doesn't seem to learn from past seasons. I can't believe that there is another pair of jeweled cropped pants ($995) in this rollout. They have not sold well of late -I would think that having a couple of similar pairs in the sale section not moving at 75% off would be a strong signal. Oversized zip-back short sleeve sweaters too. Oy.

  26. THE PINK ESPADRILLESfdh$^%&%&#$^!!!!!

    Replies
    1. Besides being overly excited about the espadrilles, I love this rollout in general.

I'll start with things that could eventually come into my price range: carrie cami in safari fatigue (65035), linen diamond tee (a4315), linen baseball tee (a4311), pompom tunic (a2120).

I love the way the Reid crop jean in medium oxford looks, but I'm not sure about the big pale fades in front and how the shape would actually look on ME. I tried on the boyjean in ontario wash in store two weeks ago and that looked amazing. (size down) So that may be THE pair of relaxed j.crew jeans i'd get for this spring. The Point Sur denims look great too. But they're beyond my budget of a college student (like all the cool madewell ones too! sigh...)

As usual I love all the swim styles pretty much. I don't know if I would come across as too conservative for a 21 year old in a one piece, but I really want to wear those before I have my abs toned. My favorite one is twisted vine underwire tank (a2146) because blue is my favorite color!

The jewelries look amazing per usual. My favorite is brilliant stones necklace (a8172). I love all the other espadrille rollouts so I would probably end up purchasing that carbon solid colored one.

And for everything else that I'd spend time admiring but not actually purchase...My favorite things are the collection victorian lace top (a4254) at $198, and jeweled collar shirt in liberty jody floral in two colors at $250.

I really loved the campbell capris when I first tried them on, but later on I realized they are too big right below the bum for me. So sad because they seem to be made out of great qualities. I skipped all the sweaters this time because I AM REALLY SICK OF THIS WEATHER.

    2. I tried the pom pom tunic and it is a really nice cover up.
Just make sure you size down,it was huge.

  27. I was surprised that I liked some things this rollout and actually ordered the two other eyelet dresses to try. I actually liked so e of the looks as well. I am surprised to still see so many fancy pants as well. And would love a few more colours in sweaters..

    2. The side splits are not as deep as they are on the merino side slit sweater. I liked this tee when I tried it on.

      Delete
    3. Ina - I think she clipped them to polyvore. They came up on my bloglovin feed. It wasn't an actual picture on her. Curious how high the slit is and how thick the cotton is. Price is reasonable if they work.

      Delete
    4. Thanks rcb.shops and cate!
      Is it TTS?

      Delete
    5. rcb.shops, the cotton is a bit thicker than a vintage tee. I thought you could still see through the white somewhat, but the cotton felt substantial.

      Delete
    6. The fabric on these shirts is thicker - heavier than the vintage cotton tee but not as thick as the perfect fit tee. It's not a slub cotton but more of a smooth cotton fabric!

      Delete
    7. Ina, it is probably TTS. My usual size was roomy, though, which I like but others might not. It did not fit close to the body in my usual size, but I wouldn't say it is oversized.

      Delete
    8. Thanks cate and amy! I bought the navy and green in my bigger size L. Hoping for some easy breezy tees!

      Delete
    9. I was impressed by the weight of these tees. My VPS took me to them first when I visited the store on Monday. When she is crazy about something, like she was about this tunic tee, I know I'll like it! I tried it on, and my true size was roomy, but I prefer it that way. I have been sizing down on many sweaters and tees lately, but I bought my regular size Large. The slits were not too long, and it rested nicely over my hips/butt, lol. Hope you like them too!

  29. While in general the silk tops are among my favorite of J. Crew's offerings, I have to question the design department's thinking on the piped silk tee The pockets look like square-shaped boob-outlines. In neon, no less.

  32. RE: the Campbell Capri in seersucker -- has anyone tried this yet? Did you take the same size as the stretch cotton? 37. Here are my picks... too many to mention. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Disappointed at the absolute lack of color. The only item that appealed to me is the pink collection basketweave dress, but not even tempted due to the price. I love the cut and color though....

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm glad to see the Foundry shorts...hopefully that means there will be a Foundry pant reissue, and not just the paint-splattered ones. The scalloped baseball sweater is cute too, but I'm hesitant about merino in spring/summer, especially 16-gauge. It's probably like Kleenex, and not easy to clean.

Other than that, I'm not digging too much - the prices are insane and there are a lot of dupes elsewhere. I got an ivory mesh-sleeve sweater at Gap last year (in cotton) and they're been showing the big cuff jeans on their site for the last month or so, as well as a cropped jean that looks very similar to the "Point Sur" Griffin jean. They even have navy/white striped loafers at a fraction of the Cleos. Sure, the quality is probably not the same but if you're just looking for trend there are a lot of other options.

I think that if JC's gonna try to reinvent themselves as some great provider of denim then they should at least offer free shipping/returns on them a la Madewell. That and not blow out the website images so much that the IRL color doesn't look anything like the picture. They need to show why their jeans are so much better at a price point that's so much higher than Madewell.

    ReplyDelete

    1. silver_lining - Foundry pants didn't work for me, but I liked them. I'm curious about the shorts. Good point about a free shipping offer on denim. It should be standard shipping, not the economy slow boat & free returns. Especially if they're going to exclude denim from the global promos.

      Delete
    2. I agree. I want to try the Eastwood jeans, but they've been excluded from promos and not in store to try. Maybe a denim promo is in the works - one can only hope.

      Delete
    3. I ended up getting the eastwood jeans today because I just fell in love with them. I had to size down one size but they were just perfect in being slouchy but not overly baggy. they do have a higher rise? resulting in a slighty saggy crotch effect that I know ladies mentioned not liking, but thats kinda what makes them more modern vs mom jean, imo :) after trying on more than ten pairs of boyfriend jeans I have to say these were my fav pair!

    3. It's not scanning in system (as of 2 days ago) with the md price, but my SA checked another list/source and it infact was listed as on sale from that list. I think the stores get a list of md items prior to the system being updated to ring it up under the md price. Today I saw the sunburst skirt in stripe (A0633) for $89.99 (US stores)/ $99.99 (CAD stores) before the additional 20%/25% stacked discount :) Happy shopping!

    4. I went to Westfield in SF this past Sunday and it was marked $119.99 in the sales rack. SA there was super nice and used the phone service to order the size I needed from the website with the additional 40% off that was going on at the time, stacked my student discount, and waived shipping (I didn't even need to ask!). What's nice is that she was super thrilled for me and said it was a great deal. Hmmm...maybe I should put this in the "Looking to Love" post? But yeah, the SAs at both Westfield and Stonestown in SF have been nothing but great in my experience.

  41. I can officially tell you that it IS on sale. Mack hooked me up last week - her store in CA had it for $119.99 plus the 40% running at the time, so it cost me $70ish. Then I went into my b&m, and there it was on the sale rack for $119.99!! Wish I would've checked my store before charge sending, but I don't care. It's a great price for this jacket. Unfortunately, I don't think the 40% off sale is still going, so it'll cost more right now.

    2. With the stacked 20%/25% or 30% (30% for cardholders, new or current), it comes out to about $70 still!

  42. Thanks for all the basketweave jacket info. I'm glad I posted so there's confirmation it should in fact be $119.99 in-store. I don't need it myself. It should be 20% off sale + the 25% off storewide thru 3/25.

    1. They're stacking the promo w/the 20% off sale? Wow, maybe I should run in to my store.

    2. Yes...my local store was stacking the extra 20% off sale with the 25% off (or 30% off for cardholders)!

  43. I am surprised that I actually have a cart full of items from this new roll out. The catalog didn't impress me at all. Of course, it could be that brilliant promo...

  45. OT: Hello JCAs! It's FFM. I mentioned the week before last that I had moved to the northwest rocky mountains, and that a new blog change including name and blogger ID were in the works. Well, the new blog debuted today, along with my new blogger ID, so I hope you'll all stop by to check it out here: All Things Simplified.

Alexis: Will you please update my blog name on your blogroll when you get the chance? My URL is the same for now, but will be changing in another day or so. I'll let you know when it does and give you the updated web address.
