J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Anyone tried the Falsetto Plaid Pumps yet? They are sold out in most sizes, so I know someone out there has them! :)

  3. I don't have a review of one specific item, but rather of J.Crew itself. I have been a very loyal J.Crew customer for years and have spent a LOT of $$$ with them, but have been spending my $$$ elsewhere lately. I have been so disappointed with their last several roll outs and this latest spring roll out is just sad (IMHO). There was literally nothing that went into my cart - not one pair of shoes, not one dress, not one skirt. I'm just so sick of colour blocking, tipped everything, sad colours, capris, mini skirts and unflattering patterns and designs. So sadly, until (or unless) things change, I will continue to seek out other places to shop :-(

    1. I'm right there with you, there are a few things that are okay, but not at the price points. I'm also over the sweatshirt/jeweled shirt offerings.

    2. Yes. Sadly I agree with the post.. I am shopping elsowhere, still checking JCrew but not buying much exept basic tshirts.

    3. It's just odd. I used to get excited about so many pieces each new release. Now, not so much. I don't know if I can really put my finger on it, but maybe... maybe it is that they do have classic pieces, but the "twists" that are going on just aren't resonating with me as much. I cannot wear capris to work and I keep hoping for cute long pants, but it's just not happening. I still love J. Crew and I do still purchase from them, but the latest offerings lack that je ne sais quoi I had come to love.

    4. I agree about the lack of enthusiasm for most of JCrew's offerings, but there are one or two pieces (okay, more like 4 or 5) that I absolutely must have each season. The cut, fabric, tailoring are a cut above most other retailers targeting a similar audience.

In a way, I'm glad for the limitations in offerings or I'd lose control of my shopping =).

  6. Tried on the swing trench in sunbaked orange. I'm usually a 6 (small around the torso but busty) and needed to size down to a 2 in this! The color is definitely orange, I was hoping that it would come off more coral but it didn't, at least to me in store lighting. I'm pale, blonde hair, blue eyes and it was not flattering. Happy that I didn't order online, I left the store empty-handed, which was fine with me!

  7. A few recent loves - the side slit tunic t-shirt - I preferred the larger of my two t-shirt sizes in this - the smaller fit, but I wanted a bit of a looser fit and you can still get the looser fit with the streamlined look. The slits on this aren't too high, they don't go up past my waist. The t-shirt is lightweight but not sheer, I'd say inbetween the perfect tee weightand the vintage tees (color is solid not heathered like the vintage tees) I picked up the white one last week and ordered the grey (currently on backorder). If I can get back in to my store I would rather have a grey one NOW. This will be a great t-shirt for my pixie pants!

Another tunic love - the lightweight merino tunic sweater. It's been popping back online - I bought this in the heather lavender and heather dusk - the heather lavender is a nice pale purple color and perfect for spring. I found the slits on this sweater to be high though, I had to layer something underneath to prevent viewing my sides (nobody needs to see that) and also because the sweater is very sheer.I like that this is a longer, slightly swingy sweater without adding a lot of extra width around my middle. I found the cut on it to be flattering and at 5'8" it hits mid thigh.

I styled the sweater on my blog here

    1. I have a pic of the side slit tunic on my blog.

My store still had lots of the merino tunic with the side slits in all sizes and colors if somebody is looking for it.

    2. i love the lightweight merino tunic and also got it in the heather lavender! i'm between 5'0'' and 5'1'' just wish i had waited until now to buy...that'll teach me to get anything from j. crew w/o waiting for a discount + additional % off!

    3. I love both of these, especially the t-shirt. The cotton feels so nice, I like the length and the slits are just right (and needed to break up the length). It is just a tee, but I love it. Have you washed and dried yours yet? I have not attempted it yet but wonder how it will do, whether it can really go in the dryer, etc.

  8. Love love love the Peacoat Trench in Navy. The fabric is somewhat stiff, but it is "waxed cotton". And it can be machine washed (though I hope it doesn't fade too much upon washing), unlike Barbour's coats that are usually spot-clean only. The removable quilted lining looks and feels great. Now that Spring is almost here (NYC), it's the perfect coat to wear.

For size reference, I'm usually a 0 in boy shirts and most dresses, and a 2 in perfect shirts. I got it in the XS and I could still manage to layer a sweater under it. The sleeve length is fine on me (5'4", 110 lbs).

    1. I got the same navy Peacoat Trench in XS and we're about the same size too! When I first opened the box the coat was as stiff as cardboard (it was a cold day) so I was quite alarmed. It got softer indoors, but it's still much stiffer than regular trench coats or even my Barbour jacket. This material gives it the nice shape just as it is shown in the catalog. I loved how stylish it looked when I put it on, but I still have to get used to the feeling of that stiff material on my body.

I'm glad to hear you like it so much, I'm sure I will too!

    2. Mine was the British khaki color in XS. I had to return it. I love everything about it except that the coat wore me instead of me wearing it. The fit was fine everywhere, except that the A-line cut was just too roomy for me. For reference I'm 4'11, and I usually wear an XS, 0 or P2 in coats. Maybe for someone who is 5'2 or 5'3 and taller can pull it off. I guess i would've gotten an XXS, but it would feel a little too snug, especially with the lining on.

    3. I'm glad you like it too Linda =). I guess my happiness is amplified because it was final sale and a complete Hail Mary purchase. I couldn't find any reviews at the time. Where were you guys when I needed you? ;)

  9. I forgot to say for the merino tunic sweater I took my regular sweater size of medium...I didn't need to size down like I have in some of the oversized sweaters. The sleeves are narrower and the room in the body was reasonable.

  10. A few of my recent purchases:

    1. Bleached-out indigo top (a2081)
I had high hopes for this shirt as I love anything chambray/indigo. Alas, it was horrible on me! The shirring made the fabric stick out to the point that I looked like I was in the late stages of pregnancy and it effectively doubled the size of my bosom. (Gulp!) I couldn't take it off fast enough! The fabric was nice and soft, but the print together with the shirring and the button in the back felt too "little house on the prairie" to me. Going back.

    2. Boy shirt in stripe poplin (05102)
This, just like the Boy shirt in end-on-end in French blue which I reviewed last week, is a total love for me. The fit is great -- super flattering, no tugging or gaping. The poplin cotton is soft, smooth, and thin without revealing the color of my bra. Perfect work shirt, but can be easily dressed down with jeans. A definite keeper. The only (very small) gripe I have is the color of the stripe -- it's called navy, but looks more black. But we have already come to expect that with JC, haven't we?

    3. Linen c'est la vie tee in soft gray (a3022)
This tee fit a bit loose in my usual size (S), but I know I can easily shrink it in the dryer if needed. I like the gray color and the stripe lettering, but they could stop with the drop shoulder seam already, it's a lazy way of doing it and is getting too old. Still, since it was fairly inexpensive during the 40% off promo I think I'll keep it.

    4. Opera length glass pearl necklace (46525)
I already own one of these necklaces from a few years ago, but I actually appreciated that this one did not have the big clasp so I ordered it during the 40% off promo. The price couldn't be beat. Curiously, the tiny JC tag that is pictured on the necklace on the website was missing from my necklace. Not that it's necessary to have it, but it was just a bit weird.

I hope this helps someone! A few more items are on their way, but the economy shipping takes forever to deliver to my house. Have a great day!

    1. Love the Boy Shirt in Stripe Poplin and the End-on-End Shirt. I bought the Opera Length Glass Pearl Necklace on 40% promo as well (great price) - it did not have the little gold tag on it either.

  12. Some probably decent basics in the bunch but opening prices are so high and they go down so quickly that most aren't worth FP-30% to me, especially since it's still in the 30's here. I may keep some of them in my wishlist for markdown plus and additional % off.

Factory heathered sweatshirt (a1495) - Can we please stop calling tops 'sweatshirts' that are obviously tee shirts? I didn't even try this one on because when I took it out of the bag it was a thin long-sleeved grey tee shirt with a triangle at the neckline. Return.

Factory short-sleeve pocket sweatshirt (a0183) - This one felt more like a sweatshirt. Very basic but I think will be a good layering piece for spring. I sized up to a M after seeing it on Gigi. It's slouchy that way but I like it. A S would've been fine but I didn't want to risk shrinkage. The grey color is nice, true to the website image.

Foundry short (A4770) - Description says "cotton canvas" but these are 55/45 linen/cotton. I didn't love the feel of them for that reason. Color looks like it does online. I tried my usual 4 and they fit in the waist but were a bit tight in the hips - they didn't fit the like original Foundry pant, IMO. I also wasn't crazy about the raw edges when they were unrolled. Don't think I'll bother trying a 6.

Broken-in boyfriend chino short (20899) - These were a better fit in the 4 than the Foundry short. These are fine shorts, but I don't think they're worth $38.50. I'll probably just hack some BF chinos that don't get much wear in my closet.

Skinny washed twill utility pant (A6527) - I liked these a lot. Took my usual 28 and they fit great. However, I have a similar pair from a few years ago so will wait for sale on these. If they're $69.99-40% in two weeks I'll be kicking myself for keeping them now, ya know?

Linen baseball tee in colorblock (A4311) - Oversized in my usual S but I liked that and wouldn't size down. It was quite see through in both the front and the back, and not worth FP-30%. Maybe $29.99-40% (notice a theme with these reviews?)

  13. Printed espadrilles in pink blue (A4320) - This colorway sold out quickly online, which is no surprise because it is super cute, bright and summery IRL. I took my usual whole size, they don't come in half sizes. Excited to wear these once the weather warms up!

Rumpled stripe popover in azure (A2049) - I'm a fan of popovers more than I am button-ups, and love the relaxed, rumpled look of this one. It's slightly big in my usual 00, but it's so soft and pretty that I loved it as soon as I put it on. It's certainly long enough to tuck into pants and skirts, which is how I'll be wearing it.

Linen baseball tee in colorblock in heather grey vanilla (A4311) - I could have sized down in this one but went with an XS because I liked the fit and feel in that size. I would wear something underneath, as it is somewhat see-through. I like it very much as a basic tee and think it's worth the current promo price.

Merino mesh-sleeve sweater in colorblock in dove midnight (A2866) - I really like the look and fit of this sweater. The mesh sleeves are a subtle detail that adds nice texture. Not sure if it's different enough from other baseball tees and sweaters I already own. I normally take an XS in merino sweaters, but sized down to an XXS.

Nike Internationalist sneakers in glacier ice blue (A0774) - These aren't online anymore. The shades of blue are gorgeous IRL and look like they did on my computer screen. I took my usual sneaker size. So far I've only worn them around the house, but they have been comfortable while being broken in. I have no reason to believe they won't be as comfy out and about, or while exercising.

    1. Oh, I forgot -- I also got the Nike Internationalist sneaker and these are a love. Color is gorgeous and they're really comfortable. I've worn them about 3 times already (I'm not using them for exercise; just out and about shoes). I love the retro mesh and suede and the pop of orange. They are available at Nike.com and Nordstrom if anyone still wants them. They sold out really fast from J. Crew.

    2. Would you recommend sizing up or down from your regular half size for the espadrilles? Thanks in advance!

    3. Unknown, I would recommend sizing up from your regular half size. I tried sizing down and they were too snug for me.

  14. One like, two loves and one return from the latest 30% promo:

Like - the Pink Floral Embroidered top. I sized down to the smaller of my shirt sizes and it fits well. The colors are nice (if not bright) and the embroidery is a nice detail. The only thing preventing this top from being a love is that the fabric is a little stiff and rough. They could have used a softer, nicer cotton for the price.

Love - the puff-sleeve blazer in vanilla white. I said this in the Looking to Love thread last week, but this blazer is perfection. The color, the cut, the material, it's all perfect. I can see wearing this to work with skirts and with jeans, tees, and sandals for a chic summer outfit. Love it.

Love - Campbell Capris in navy. I took a chance and ordered these in tall (I'm 5'3"). I really prefer ankle pants to capris and I hoped the tall would be long enough to hit at the ankle, but not too long that they looked like too short pants. These are perfect and will look great with heels and sandals. I love the color, fabric, and cut. A huge improvement to the Cafe Capri, which I never liked on me.

Return - Side Slit Tunics. I ordered white and the green color. The weight on the shirt is fine, they are just hugely unflattering on me. Too much material -- I look like a billboard. They do nothing for me and really overwhelm my small frame. I couldn't get them off fast enough! Both the dark and the light color were equally unflattering.

    1. How wast the sizing in the puff-sleeve blazer? I've been wanting an off white blazer for Spring and Summer and this looks like a good possibility. TIA

      Delete
    2. I would say a bit small. Not so small to size up, but if you are in between sizes, take the bigger of the two. It's really a great spring/summer blazer.

      Delete
    3. maryeb - i took the same size in the puff-sleeve as the schoolboy. but the first time i tried it on, it felt tight in the sleeves. second time, it didn't, so i'm not sure how consistent the sizing is. i think it's safer to go with a bigger size if you're in between but i also think this is a blazer for warmer weather so a tighter fit makes more sense since you won't be wearing a sweater or anything underneath

  15. My recent experiences at J Crew
the side slit tunics are just long t-shirts....I took the smaller of my t-shirt size...one down for the perfect tee- shirt size I usually take. At promo price over priced IMO. they are just tee shirts.
the lace sleeved top...is really nice. It is a thick sweatshirt with pretty sleeves..it is cotton/ponte fabric and has a cute scalloped hem on the side. I again took a size smaller than my perfect tee size. The navy is nice but the light sky blue is really pretty for spring.
Did not care for the seersucker eyelet top in both the sweater or the cotton blouse.
Wanted to see the linen sweaters but here in Vancouver we did not get them ? are they coming ?
The linen tees are the same as last year...in other words good for a few wears and then they look like a rag..again IMO
the jewelled bow tops were boxy and ill-fitting
didn't care for the geo print IRL
the drapey pencil skirt is lovely fabric but the front pleats are a huge NO for me.
I visited both downtown Vancouver stores and the sale section was uneventful IMO. SA said 25% in store ends tommorow...but its extended online until the 28th ?
Alot of the earings are huge and heavy for pierced ears, the necklaces are pretty gaudy...this trend can't last too much longer . The shoes were lovely but overpriced the bellas in the perforated style in pink an or navy are both lovely . alot of the new scarves in linen/cotton were pretty again the navy, pink, white or red were all nice.
I di not see the new linen sweaters or the eyelet dresses which I really wanted to see IRL...
    Both store were busy....

My favorite color they are doing seems to be the lavender...its pretty. But the merino side slit tunic was alot shorter than I would like a TUNIC to be.
I am on the fence about a few things as prices drop fast in J Crew world...there is nothing I have to have right now... .

  16. I just received some items from the 30% off, and I have to say I really love the long-sleeve sailor-stripe tee! I'm a huge fan of the saint james tees, but I find they're always a tad bit too short. I got this tee in the navy/salt, and although the color is a different from online with the salt being a beige-ivory vs the bright off -white color shown online, but it's prettier IRL! the cotton is just the right amount of thick as is the fit - not too loose or tight. i wouldn't recommend sizing down since the arms aren't as generous as the torso part of the shirt. I'm thinking about picking up the other colors in store after seeing the colors IRL.

    1. I completely agree about the sailor stripe tee...big love for me too! I took the smaller of my two t-shirt sizes and still have some room. I reviewed it in the salt/navy combo on my blog here

    2. Love me the Sailor Stripe Tee too! It looks casual, but I tried it on in-store with Campbell Capris and the Bristol Trouser, so it dresses up nicely too. I took my usual size Small which seemed a little large through the torso, but sizing down resulted in a too-tight fit in the shoulders and arms. As in I could barely get out of it while in the JC dressing room. I plan to wear it with some of the tortoiseshell necklaces and bangle bracelet I bought recently - I would provide a style number, but these are in-store items only. Both necklaces were about $45 to $50 - they are now marked down to final sale.

  17. Hi, JCAs! Just received my online order and I have a few reviews: the scallop crepe dress in bright persimmon and white eyelet midi skirt, and the diamond paisley-stripe scarf I purchased this weekend in store:

*Scallop crepe dress: I raved about this dress on Audrey of Life of Short...This is an amazing dress in many ways, but has a serious design flaw that would require a trip to the tailor to fix, if even possible. First, the good: I love the bright persimmon color. It's a fresh orangey-poppy red. The fabric is nice and has a lovely drape to it. The fit of the dress (except for said flaw) is flattering. It comes in nicely at the waist and is a perfect length. Okay, so here is the major issue for me. The flaps of the V neck of the dress are not stitched together and come completely open. We're not talking deep V (I'll do a deep V), we're talking indecent exposure. My bra was completely exposed. I would either need to wear a camisole (which I wouldn't for this dress, I personally think it would ruin the look of the dress) or stitch the flaps of the V neck together. I don't sew so I would need to take it to a tailor to see if it's even possible. I ordered the dress in two sizes (my smaller and larger dress size) and had this issue in both sizes so I don't think sizing up or down would fix this issue. Sadly, I think this dress will be going back. If the dress goes on super sale I may consider it to offset the cost of tailoring.

*White eyelet midi skirt: This skirt is a love for me. It's a keeper. I was concerned that the length look dowdy on me (I am only 5'4"), but it doesn't. I would say the skirt is TTS. However, I went up a size as I do with all fuller J Crew skirts as I like the skirts to sit low on my waist. If you have a pear shape figure or proportionally small waist, I would stick with your true size.

*Paisley diamond-stripe scarf in umber gray: I love this scarf. I've worn it several times since I've purchased it this weekend. I love the colors and pattern. I like large scarves, which this is, and think it will transition nicely to spring and summer.

    That's it for now!

    1. I bought the paisley diamond-stripe scarf in pink/blue and umber gray (Um, what color is "umber"? I guess it's gray?) Regardless, I love both and look forward to wearing them a lot. I say "look forward to" as it's in the low 30's outside and super-windy where I live right now. Good grief, can't take it anymore!

    2. Yes still in the 30s here as well but I can't wear a wool scarf one more day so I'm wearing this scarf! I need some Spring in my wardrobe:) Granted I'm still wearing my wool coat but at least my full length down coat is packed away for the year.

  18. I reviewed the lace mini from factory: it's pretty much identical tot he retail version, a harsher cotton and the floral details are heavier as well but it is 100% cotton, and fit is TTS in my opinion. Length is same...short.

  20. Count me in as another Campbell Capri convert. I cannot wear the cafe capris at all, but am thrilled by the cut of these new pants. I got something in cotton--lattice print. I have no idea what to wear with them. Now I will look at other Campbell capri options....

    1. Unknown - I put the blue azure merino v w/the lattice capris in this post. I love that print and settled on the scarf only. It was fun to see that it goes with something other than navy, pink or green, so think outside the box. I like the Campbel capris, too.

      Delete
    2. I have the lattice print Campbells and I have worn them once with the light gray merino tunic sweater. I plan to wear them with (1) a chambray shirt, (2) a white button down and a navy sweater, (3) a navy top (either a tee or a silk tank) and a denim jacket. I also found that the pants look best with a refined heel or a delicate ballet flat - the Darby's looked waaaaay too 1970's grandpa for me (and those are my go to shoe!). The Martina wedge in pale thistle is nice with them and I hope to try a nude patent Etta soon. Someone bolder than I might try a sneaker when wearing them casually - I would love to see that styled!

  22. No.2 Pencil skirt in cotton twill. This fit tts and the vivid aqua looks like a light, bright turquoise to me, a pretty color for Spring and Summer. Has anyone tried washing these? I thought I saw that it was machine wash, but now it's listed as dry clean.

Boy Shirt in End-on-end. I got the french blue after reading Ivanka's review. I completely agree. I love the shirt. The fabric is very nice light weight, but not at all sheer. The color looks darker IRL, more of a medium blue. I got my usual boy shirt size.

  25. I received the scallop crepe dress in Navy and it was an instant LOVE! So classy but with a twist. I ordered the smaller of my j.crew sizes and it fit perfectly. No gaping on me luckily but I am not very well endowed, so maybe that is the key?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I tried the Stretch Eyelet Dress. I found it to fit similarly to last year's Tipped Gamine Dress, which I already own. I wished the eyelet part was stretchy, but it wasn't, so the shoulders were tight and lacked movement. If I had sized up, the rest would have been too loose. I also had hoped for an all over eyelet. I decided against it, and I see it is sold out online now, but it might still be in stores.

I also finally tried the Andie Chinos, which I really liked. However, I found the sizing varied a lot from color to color, so these you'll definitely want to try on. The pair I bought fits great and holds it shape even after two days of wear.

I tried the new Stretch Toothpick Jean in white. I really liked the stretch of the new denim, but the fit was just ok. I've never felt like the pocket placement on J.Crew denim was very flattering on me.

The only thing I ended up purchasing from one of the recent releases is the Long-sleeve Sailor-Stripe Tee, which fit true to size. I liked the heavier knit, which seemed like it will wash and wear much more easily than the delicate cycle J.Crew tees that I have so many of. I've considered getting it other colors, but the heather carbon champagne is my favorite.

    1. LOVE the sailor stripe tee! It's one of my favorites for sure.

I've tried on several of the new jeans and I think they are greatly improved! I should mention that the denims are different in every pair (so rinse denim will fit differently than the ecru toothpicks, etc) so definitely try before you buy! It's the jeans, not you (at least that's what I remind myself every time I try a new pair on. Ha!).

The eyelet dress is more than likely still in stores - I'm guessing that a lot of things are sold out online because everyone is buying 2 different sizes of everything because of the 25%/30% off and items will pop back as returns roll back in.

    2. Curator, is the champagne really what they usually call champagne (vanilla) or more white (it looks white on my monitor)? I am tempted but I have too many black/creamish/tan tops, I am looking for a black/white one. TIS

    3. Ema, it is more of a vanilla color, not white. And the black is more of a charcoal. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but then I tried it again, and really love it.

  27. Seersucker Campbell Capri (a3247) - My mom got these in her usual size. I asked if they seemed stretchy and she said they were not, there was perhaps a touch of stretch but not enough to constitute them as "stretchy" pants. On the website they are listed as purely cotton. I'm very intrigued by these pants now - I have yet to try them on in store. Also, these pants look way cuter in person than online!

Factory Stripe Stretch Tank Dress (a1997) - I tried this on today in the Factory store and I looooove it! I am a 12, sometimes 14, and I tried on the large. It was pretty much perfect - perhaps a bit snug on the lower half for me but I almost always wear Spanx under dresses so I figured that would solve any issues. I am also 5' 8" and this dress was the PERFECT maxi length for me - not dragging on the ground but not so short you could see my entire foot. I'm hoping it won't shrink up in the wash (I always wash in cold water and line dry "temperamental" items so perhaps I will have to hand wash this one). I did not try a size up for comparison; it sizing up might solve the clingy lower half situation and possibly the length post-laundering. I think this is a great dress for spring break and summer! It comes in solid gray and black online as well as a red in stores.

Pink Floral Embroidered Top (a2204) - I tried this in a size 12 and I definitely felt like I could have sized down to a 10. It felt like a maternity top to me with so much fabric in the stomach region! The pink is beautiful and I love the pop of blue embroidery, but I don't like wearing pink so there was no way I could persuade myself to like this top. It is probably dwindling down to a limited availability in stores (it's reeeeally popular, as you can tell by its being sold out online), but some sizes might pop back after people complete returns after receiving their orders from this latest promo. Keep an eye on it.

    1. I recently ordered the factory stripe stretch tank dress but I have not been able to find many reviews of it online. I think this is one of maybe two that I have read. I was sold on the style not paying much attention to the color… I assumed the dress was black and ivory but later found out it was a lighter navy and ivory. Does the dress have splits up the side? One review said that it did but it does not mention splits in the JCrew dress description. I'm also a little leery about the size. I ordered an x-small since I normally wear a 0/2 but the material is a spandex and not a cotton/rayon so I'm thinking it may be a little fitted. I'm anxious to receive my order and really hope I love the dress as much as you did! I wish I could find a picture of someone wearing a similar dress just to get a feel as to what it will look like!

  28. Seersucker Eyelet Shift Dress: Love it. I'm a sucker for seersucker (har-har), so this dress caught my eye right away. 100% cotton, fully lined, pockets, and washable so I think it will be perfect for hot summer days. I usually take an 8 to fit my chest but the last time I tried on shift dresses from J.Crew the 8's looked sloppy, so I went with the 6 and it was the right fit. I'm 5'8" and the dress hits me at the same place that it does on the model. My only complaint: the fabric is not true seersucker. It's a plain-woven blue and white striped fabric that lacks the telltale puckering that results from a slack-tension weaving process. I haven't seen any of the other seersucker pieces from this recent rollout, so I don't know if it's just the "Seersucker Eyelet" pieces that are like this or whether J.Crew has decided that true seersucker is not cost effective at all and has stopped using it *period*. I love the look of the dress anyway though, so it's a keeper.

  29. Has anyone been able to review the cutout tank in colorblock swimsuit? I'm a mommy of a 2 year old, so I need a swimsuit that I can chase him around in that's cute and a one piece!

  30. Merino mesh-sleeve sweater in heathered sky. Based on past experience with relaxed fit sweaters, I sized down. The body is still loose, but not overly so. The sleeves are a bit tighter (I do have a some muscle from weight lifting), but not uncomfortably so. The sleeves fit similar to how the perfect fit tee sleeves fit me. The fabric is light weight and slightly sheer. A keeper.

Merino texture-panel sweater in dove, sandstone, pink. Also light weight and sheerer than the mesh-sleeve, but that's probably because of the color. Fits tts, similar to the Tippi. The mesh panels are the same texture as the sleeves in the mesh-sleeve and add a nice bit of interest. The sheerness bothers me a little, but I love the color and the feel of this sweater so I will probably keep it.

  31. Nora ballet flats, bright kiwi. These seemed to fit tts initially, but in the very short time I walked around the house my right foot began to slip out. They are not as comfortable as the Madewell skimmers (all time favs), not as much support in the in the footbed or the sides. The sides were bowing out with every step. The color is a bit highlighter yellow, with a green tint. I like the color fine and the perforations are nicely done. Returned these.

Back to the skimmers. I really hope Madewell brings these back. Love, love. I'd buy a few more pairs.

  32. Few reviews on my last purchase:

    LINEN BASEBALL TEE IN COLORBLOCK
    item a4311
I got this in an M and should have gone with an S. The vanilla/gray is sheer in the back as all the linen tees are. This cut was boxy on me and the 3/4 sleeve was very loose and hung in an awkward spot. Return.

    ANDIE CHINO
    item 04257
Late to the game on these. I had to size up on these which is never fun. However love the fit and the thickness of the stretchy cotton. Fatigue great neutral for spring. Also got the piped khaki (too small and can't return.)

    PAISLEY DIAMOND-STRIPE SCARF
    item a3938
LOVE this in pink/blue for spring. Great pattern and pastel colors.

    DENIM JACKET IN ECRU
    item a4616
LOVE. I sized up to M. Stretchy and great fit. Staple for spring. I normally wear a 4 in perfect shirt and 2 in the coats for reference.

    CUTOUT FLORAL SWEATSHIRT
    item a2668
I sized up to M in this and should have gone with my normal S, can't return. Soft material and fun to wear with different colors underneath that show through the cut out. Go with normal size. Says hand wash which isn't fun.

    KEEPER CHAMBRAY SHIRT
    item 44875
Got it in my normal 4 for shirts, fit is great. Love the light color for spring, will be a staple. The pockets tend to emphasize the chest area and may not be great under a sweater because of the bulk. It has a button on the sleeve for keeping up which is not my favorite look if you have the sleeve down.

    BROKEN-IN BOYFRIEND CHINO SHORT
    item 20899
Painfully had to size up in these too. Very short rise, not the best on me.

VANS® LEATHER METALLIC CLASSIC SLIP-ON SHOES
    item a4092
LOVE. Ordered wrong size and had to do a store search to find the right size - listed in mens sizes on the site which is silly since they are obviously mens shoes. JCREW should have corrected sizing on their end.

    NIKE® AIR PEGASUS '83 SNEAKERS
    item a0775
LOVE. Pretty sure I had these back in the day. They have a very low profile and will look best in no sock or special low pro socks. Took my normal size. Laces and swoop neon orange. Dark color will be great for ease of keeping clean.
