Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Hi ladies! I am looking for the Grid Scarf. I am not sure how long ago this was in stores. I saw it on a tv show today so I am hoping it's recent! If anyone sees this, please let me know!

    1. Hi Daisy - I believe the grid print is from holiday (Nov/Dec), so it might be tough to find, if at all. Perhaps someone w/more recollect on this one or current intel will also chime in. :)

    2. daisy, I see one on ebay.

    3. Thanks ladies! I saw the ebay one but can't convince myself to buy it at a higher than retail price. I have too many other things I would rather use the money on!

    4. Grid print scarf was from last fall. I miraculously scored one via WWFIFY around November but have never seen it since on a pop-back. You may need to go the eBay route. Good luck!

  2. Wow! The pink floral embroidered top is already almost completely sold out! I was holding off for an in-person report on how neon the pink is. My loss.

    1. I took advantage of the 30% and got that popover and the blue paisley- (hope it's not too neon!)

    2. I didn't order it online b/c I wasn't sure I would like the blue embroidery -- I would have liked it much better if the stitching was more tonal with either the pink or the orange from the top. But I saw it in-store today and I liked it more than I thought I would, and got it my normal size (sometimes I size up in popovers, but this one definitely runs TTS). It's sold out online, but I bet you can find it in a store...

    3. Oh, and I should say, it's a bright happy pink, I would not say neon.

    4. Thanks, AudreyS for the rundown. I contacted WWFIFY and have my fingers crossed.

OT, Madewell is having a 30% off select items promo and I really like how the outbound jacket in camo looks. Has anyone tried it on? a1299

  5. Went into my local store to take advantage of the 30% off sale for cardholders. Got the new lace tank along with some other basic t's, and a pair of the new matchsticks. Wow! The new matchsticks are awesome! I did have to go up a size...which was weird considering I took my regular size in the Reid crops. The SA even gave me 30% off the jeans!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Brittney- I am extremely interested in the new matchsticks. What was it about the new vs "old" that you liked better? I have matchsticks from last year and they are basically okay but not wonderful. Look forward to your opinion!

      Delete
    2. The fit was just all around better....with the old matchsticks, they kind of cut into my hips because of the lower rise. The new ones have just the right amount of stretch...they are seriously the most comfortable jeans I own. I wore them today and although they did stretch out some, it wasn't as bad as most of my other jeans. I just thought the new ones were super comfy and seemed to fit perfectly...the higher rise gets rid of the "muffin top" look.

The reason I had to go up a size was because the stretch did seem to be a tad too tight on the back of my thighs.

I'd definitely suggest you try these!

      Delete
    3. Thank you Brittney! You hit all the points about the matchsticks that bother me about my pair from last year! And if they don't stretch out too much over the course of a day, that would be wonderful. Too many times I find what I think is a perfect fit only to have it become baggy by the end of the day- not good at all. I will cross my fingers for a denim promo very soon!

  8. I may go to check out the new remodeled MI Ave store in Chicago. I generally avoid that store on the weekend due to crowds but I am dying to see the new store. Any Chicago JCAs been? I'll report back if I go. I placed an online order yesterday with the eyelet midi skirt and the scallop dress in persimmon. The dress looked so amazing on Audrey of Life is Short... that I had to try it for myself. I didn't even notice it on the website. J crew should have Audrey model it:)

    4. The new store is BEAUTIFUL. It's much more modern and clean looking. It looks much more at home on Michigan Ave than the old store. I will say the sale section is much much smaller than in the old space, but the selection of full price and Collection items is worth the trip IMO.

      Delete
    5. The only reason I go to the store is if I'm in the area or if online has sold out of something. I also used to like their sales section. It's disappointing to hear how much smaller it now is.

  12. I had planned to stop in yesterday to check out new arrivals, but, alas, I am sick. I am most interested in the crochet lace tank. I would appreciate any advice on sizing. I actually don't own any J. Crew tanks. Not sure if I should go with the larger or smaller of my sizes in tees. I always take an XXS in the linen tees, but prefer XS in perfect fit. I might go either way with vintage tees...

    Thanks for any thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I tried on and bought the lace tank yesterday. I usually wear either an XS in linen tee's and other loose-fitting items, and a S in tippis. I definitely don't think I could've sized down on this one...I got the S. The bottom had no stretch to it...hard to explain without seeing it in person...but it would've been tight had I sized down.

    4. This didn't fit me well, but I had the right size. I'm usually a size Medium in J. Crew tops/tees, except for their tank tops which I'm a Small in. The sizing on this top is consistent with J. Crew's other tank tops. I'd suggest going with the smaller of your sizes.

    5. Melanie: Feel better!!! I took my normal size Large in the Crocheted Lace Tank. IRL pictures and a review here

    6. Hm, with all these TTS reviews, maybe I should have tried my regular top size instead of my tank size? Maybe that's why I didn't like the fit. Might try it on again one day.

  13. 312JCgirl - just got back from the new Michigan Ave. store. I was underwhelmed. Of course it looks nice because everything is new but it seems much smaller. They are claiming it is the same size but it sure doesn't feel that way IMO. The tiny sale section in the back is ridiculous. There is no room to move at all.

    1. Oh no! I really liked the layout of the old store minus the tiny fitting rooms in the back. What a bummer!

    4. Doesn't it?! It seems soooo small. I wonder if maybe their back room is really big or something.

Speaking of, we probably ran into each other there without knowing it b/c I was there around the exact same time yesterday, haha.

I've just been going to Old Orchard.

  14. rcb.shops: I was disappointed because it didn't feel like any sort of improvement to me. Don't see how that can be called a flagship store; Oakbrook is bigger.

  15. I stopped in today and purchased the pink embroidered floral top (TTS), the vivid fuchsia rumpled stripe popover (TTS), the stone grid necklace (a9016) (which feels to me like sort of a smaller and more intricate variation of the bubble necklace -- in-store I think it is called the Aztec necklace), and a super cute pink floral bracelet that I don't see online. I think I have enough JC sparkly jewelry to last through my lifetime, so it was nice to see some a few non-sparkly options. Also picked up a super cute camo/graphic tee for my daughter, which I don't see online either.

Yeah, I know this belongs in the looking to vent thread, but where am I supposed to buy my suits?! BR, AT, Theory, Talbots all don't fit me as well, but I am not buying a $148 skirt that falls apart this fast!

  21. I only visit the store to return stuff. Occasionally, the store has inventory that is sold out online so that's another reason I visit. That's why I love JC & Madewell - they constitute about 80% of my wardrobe and sizing is pretty consistent so I can buy stuff online. I do not enjoy "shopping" in store at all. So I really appreciate the JCA community for helping with reviews & photos =).

  23. I don't have a JC or Madewell nearby so I rely on reviews here on this site. Thanks so much for that!

I placed an order yesterday to try out the Campbell Capris in stretch cotton. https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/pants/Slim/PRDOVR~A0072/A0072.jsp I ordered them in blue. I wear a size 2 in Minnies but I ordered a 4 in these hoping that was the correct decision. I'm looking for a looser fit, but I don't want the waist band gapping.

For a little different silhouette in a tee, I also ordered this in the army green. https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/knitstees/shortsleevetees/PRDOVR~A5755/A5755.jsp My plan will be to wear it with my Pixie pants and Viv flats.

Also picked up a pair of acid green shorts. Looking forward to seeing how everything fits!!! :-)

  25. I ordered a few items Wednesday and received last night. The fatigue hooded jacket..I decided to try the coral color hoping it wouldn't be orangey and it isn't. It seems much more pink and I like the jacket. Soft, not stiff at all...I did my normal size but you could size down for a more fitted look. It is pretty loose in the normal size which is what I was looking for. I also got the stripe espadrilles which I love. The other items I ordered didn't show up...I received some random crewcut items instead. CS was great about returning the items...overnighted The items I had wanted at no charge.

I went in today...it was packed. I went in with the intention of trying on and buying the mini geo dress...I didn't like it at all in person...not flattering and I loved the pattern online but in real life...it wasn't as vibrant and everything about it was full. Disappointing.

  26. Madewell made me mad this week. They're using some strange combination of UPS and USPS where you can't track packages after UPS gives it to USPS. It has caused a delay in shipping. Also, they've already sold out of pretty much everything in their catalog, including shorts. It's not even warm in many parts of the country. It's just kind of infuriating that they never seem to anticipate demand and their associates have no idea about anything. This is an area where J.Crew trumps Madewell.

  28. I did stop by, it was a cold and snowy day so needed some spring looks to pick me up. Tried on the Lace Stripe Skirt (A2660V) in white. I tried on a 4 my normal size but it was big, so purchased the 2. It was a decent length for me but I am 5'1", loved the weight of the cotton and it has pockets which was a bonus. Also purchased the Merino Textured Panel sweater (A2109V), in navy/peri and sky. I went back and forth between the small and small, small is my usual size in Tippis. I finally decided with the help of my favorite SA to get the small, the small just seemed a little too tight. It is quite thin and what did not come across in the description or the catalog picture is that some of the panels are a more open weave. That made the sweater IMO more interesting. With the J Crew card and 30% off a decent price but will watch to see if they go on sale within the month since I won't be wearing either right away. Couple of the SAs were wearing the Collection leather-front sweater in navy and it looked so great on them. Too pricey for me based on how much I would wear it.

  29. Went to the new MI Ave store in Chicago. Ay, not sure what to think. The store looks shiny, pretty, and new, but the layout and feel of the store did not seem like an improvement to me. Granted, the store was super busy (but that location usually is on the weekends), but felt claustrophobic to me and not the best use of space and layout. I felt like wherever I stood I was in someone's way. There is a fairly large space in the back dedicated to shoes, bags, and accessories but it was sparsely merchandised (their shoe collection was not impressive) while the rest of the store was packed tight and felt disjointed. I didn't go into the dressing rooms so not sure if they added more rooms, but there was a long line, not in the best location, as the line was cutting off the flow of customers from going into and out of the shoe section. The sales area is a disaster. It's the size of a shoe box and four garment racks were pushed together so you couldn't really get to the middle racks, and there no space (I mean no space) to move around or look at anything. That's such a bummer because the old store had an awesome sales section. I will try to go again at a less busy time to get a better sense of the store. I think N Ave, Oakbrook and even Old Orchard stores seem like better bets, especially if you are a sales shopper like me.

    1. So bummed!! Not sure I want to even check it out but I know I will make it there eventually. I wonder if other stores will get more of the sale merchandise now. Old Orchard is my stomping ground so that would be OK with me!

      Delete
    2. rcb, I am hoping the store will seem better on a less crowded day. I'm also hoping that they will expand the sales section once the store has been open for a while and starts to accumulate more sales items. I usually prefer going to Old Orchard and North Avenue, especially on the weekends, but often found that the MI Ave store had great sales finds (plus convenient to make a quick drop in on my way home from work:) .
