JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    1. I had similar problems and I just sewed them back together with needle and thread. Fortunately it was right at the underarm so no one noticed my poor sewing skills :-)

  7. Help, what will go with the telegraph pencil skirt in "Bright Hydrangea"? I don't want to be the girl who meets a styling challenge with a gray tee or sweatshirt or a striped tee... so if I can't come up with something the skirt will have to go back. thanks!

    1. How about a Tippi sweater in the same color family? Looking at the current Tippi color selections, midnight, heather sky, and light sky all look like they might go nicely.

Or a floral top with the colors mostly in the blue color family?

Anything black and white would be chic, too, like the Merino Tippi sweater in geometric stripe, item A2804.

And I know you are opposed to gray and stripes, but how about gray and stripes in silk? Specifically, the silk thin-stripe blouse in grey, item A2013? I've been drooling over this blouse. It would go with so many things, but not with my petite, short arms.

    3. The Collection Satin Stripe Silk Blouse (A2408) is an option. It's pricey, but hopefully you can pick it up on promo or sale. I find the Collection blouses to run big sometimes, so I sized down.

    4. I'm also a fan of J.Crew's Stretch Perfect Shirts. Retail offers the regular sleeve length, plus a three-quarter sleeve (29865) in white, which would look all spring-y with a hydrangea skirt. I don't shop Factory that much, but they also offer Stretch Perfect Shirts, plus their Draped Pocket Tank in solids (08207) and a print (08208). These are good layering pieces that would accommodate a sweater in air conditioning.

    5. I absolutely love this color for spring!! I think navy and white or white and gray are some natural, easy to work with color pairings with this skirt. I like the Merino Baseball Sweater in Trellis Floral (A1883) or the Polka Dot Popover (07096)! I think the Antique Floral merino sweater might be nice as well, and perhaps even the racer tank in the same pattern, paired with a denim jacket or a chambray shirt.

Another great option would be the Collection Cashmere Tiny-Sequin Sweater (09265).

Hang onto the skirt until the end of next week - new arrivals will be rolled out in store starting Monday and online on Wednesday! The images I've seen from the newest style guide pair a LOT with this color. There's a cute seersucker eyelet panel sweater that might be a good match for this skirt!

  8. Hi Wellfedfred, I wear my orange Jackie cardi with some pants I have in that similar color. I also like navy and yellow with it as well. The bright hydrangea is a beautiful color! I hope you keep the skirt.

  9. wow, thanks, ladies, these are fascinating ideas which would never have occurred to me! I'm starting with black & white stripes, since I have 2 such blouses. Then I'll get braver. Meanwhile, I'm also looking at the Collection Windowpane cashmere sweater, A1900, which has a large-ish square of the purple color...

  11. About my double serge wool pencil skirt - is there any way to keep it from creasing? I get creases across the front after a just a couple of hours of wear. This was true even when I lost weight and the skirt was pretty loose on me. At the moment, it's not that loose, however. ;)

  12. HELP! I'm attending a wedding the first Friday in April. It's at a VFW hall on a Friday night. No idea what to wear. Would skinny pants and a sparkly top be OK? How about a skirt and sweater with flat knee boots? I don't want to wear a dress because I'm having foot issues and can't wear heels. Since it is still very cold here (Chicago area), I am at a loss as to what to wear.
