Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. was at the michigan ave chicago location today - don't know if this'll go on thru the weekend, but they're running add'l 50% off sale, and they have a LOT of stuff - a whole bunch of sweaters in full size runs, lots of matchsticks, a bunch of blouses, scarves, gloves, skirts...i could go on.

  3. I've been trying to get to my store all week to check out sales and make a return but haven't made it due to kids being home, weather, etc... Really hoping I can make it there today!! Dh has the day off and wants to do some errands, but I have other ideas, lol!

  4. Oh, just when I thought I was done. I caved and ordered three pairs of shoes just now: the kikis in glitter navy and ruby were only $60 after the 40% promo. These are great shoes, as Dani and Wendy have attested, and run TTS although somewhat fitted IMO. And, after some hesitation, I also ordered the calf hair Darbys, reviewed by AudreyBella and Gigi, which are now only $126 after the 40% promo. These are totally TTS, just a smidge roomier than the Kikis. The Darbys are my most comfortable JC shoes, I just wasn't sure how often I would wear the calf hair. (I rec'd my earlier order of patent Darbys in the desert and black, and love those too. I know Gigi and others expressed concern about the creasing, and I've only worn the desert once, but I did wear them all day and so far, it's not a significant problem for me.)

  5. I'm skipping this weekend as I went on Wednesday. My size was about nonexistent but I jumped on the Tippi in warm cocoa for $29.99 before extra 50%. I see why everyone loves the color as a great basic. I also grabbed the last statement stone fringe necklace in natural at $69.99 before extra 50%. These two pieces look great together and I am all ears if anyone has outfit suggestions for either piece. I tried on anything I was remotely interested in that was anywhere close to my size 4 or XS, S. If you are XXS or L, XL you should definitely make a trip to your store this weekend because you will rake in the bargains as there was bunches to choose from. My online cart has a few things waiting for a new promo but I am shopped out at the retail store! Happy Shopping everyone!

  6. Good morning! I need your feedback, please. I'm debating between the Darby calf hair or the Biella calf hair (if my size comes back in stock or I locate it at a store). Originally, I leaned towards the Darby until the whining diner made a comment about the lack of comfort of her pair on city sidewalks due to a thin sole (at least that's what I thought she wrote). Hence, I turned my attention to the Biella leopard version with the slightly higher heel. I already have the Janey leopard heels and the plain round toe leopard from a few years ago and enjoy using them often (ok, so I have a thing for leopard print!). If you have tried both pairs on, would you kindly voice your opinion? I tend to wear flats a lot and need something comfortable for lots of sidewalk walking. Thank you.

    1. I don't have any calf hair shoes, and as much as I love the Darby suede loafers and think they are really comfortable, they do have thin soles like the whining diner said, and that could be uncomfortable if you are doing a lot of walking or even standing. It's a different kind of uncomfortable than I am used to, though. I think of uncomfortable shoes as pinching in the toe box or heel, things like that. My Converse slip-ons are super comfortable but have flat thin soles too so in that way they are not comfortable the way a pair of supportive running shoes would be. I would look at the comparison that way between the Darby calf hairs and the Biella calf hairs. My patent Biella loafers are more substantial (although definitely not as comfortable as a running shoe!) than the Darby suede loafers, but I like the Darbys better because they are soft and feel like (thin) slippers.

    2. cmg, I responded to your post on my blog, but I really like both the Biella Calf Hair Loafers and the Darby Loafers. However, I'd recommend the Biella Calf Hair shoes if you're on your feet a lot I totally agree with what Cate said above. I hope that helps!

      Delete
    3. cmg, have you considered the Madewell Sidewalk Skimmers? They are very easy on the feet. I wrote about them last year here.

      Delete
    4. I think it depends a lot on the shape of your foot. The Biellas run more narrow, IMO, than the Darbys -- I have a wider foot, so the Darbys are much more comfortable. The Biellas are more fitted and provide more support. So in the end, I guess I added nothing and just confirmed cate and rynetta's opinions.

      Delete
    5. audreys I'm same as you, my wide feet feel better in the Darbys.

  7. I don't think I'll get to my store this weekend, but their sale section was pretty depleted anyway.

I did just post a couple reviews, in case anyone's considering -- the Majest Peacoat in heather mineral, which is on sale plus promo (great price), and the Moonglow Paisley linen tee here.

  8. Hi all,

The piped suede ballet flats are on sale and I was wondering if anyone had any feedback? It's an online online item so I"m finding a lack of reviews. Thanks!

    1. Hi Michelle,

I have them in black but haven't worn them out yet. The piping is gold metallic, which I couldn't tell from the pics online - adds a cute touch! They're tts, comfy for try-on, leather lining, and a great price. Can't comment on longterm comfort or durability but they're definitely cute! hth!

      Delete
    2. I ordered these half a size up as I normally do with Cece's and they were too big. I would stick to your normal shoe size. They were cute though. Ended up returning (no final sale when I purchased) and did not reorder as a realized I already had a pair very similar. Think they are worth the sale price though. HTH!

    3. Thanks ladies, really helpful reviews. Always grateful, especially when final sale is in effect!

  9. I won't be able to make it to the mall this weekend, but probably will not be missing out on much since my sizes are always the first to sell out at my store. The extra 50% off is a really great deal though. Good luck to all the JCAs that are able to make it to their store...hope you score some fantastic deals! :)

    1. OT: There's 40% off sale items at Madewell until 1.20.14. The promo-priced items also get the 40% off, and there are a lot of them eligible for the discount right now, too. I've updated the Madewell Promo-Priced items list...See It Here.

      Delete
    2. Speaking of Madewell, the in store prices are often significantly lower than the online prices, so if you can get in to one, it might be worthwhile. For example, the daisy stitch dress (item 43697) is $94.99 online, but $39.99 in store (all the prices I am listing are before the 40% off promo); the silk director shirtdress in brushstroke floral is $139.99 online, but $69.99 in store. I'm glad I went in b/c I saw both of these online and was interested, but did not want to buy final sale b/c I am less sure about Madewell sizing. The first dress is a darling little summer dress, not as tent-like as I thought it might be, and the second dress is a gorgeous print, and also not as shapeless as it could have been. Both are short, which helps avoid the tent effect, but also is a problem for taller women (which I am not). Last purchase was the shirttail shirtdress -- $89.50 on promo online, $79.99 in store. This is that thicker, slightly scuba-y fabric that Madewell uses in some of their more structured knits -- it's all synthetic, but I happen to love it -- like ponte, it shapes without revealing.

      Delete
    3. Audreys. I agree I purchased the silk director dress is brushstroke floral, it is stunning. I paid $41 for it in-store. It is short but so am I, I did size down to XS so it fitted better.

  11. CMG- I have the Darby's ( not the calf hair but a few in suede) and the Biellas ( silk and patent ones). My calf hair leopard ones are Kate Spade from a few years ago. My Darby's are my go to shoes for work ( I am a VPS) so I am on my feet all day. They are truly like slippers but if you are walking on the sidewalks I would be concerned about the comfort/ wearability. The good thing is they have a leather sole so they can be fixed by a good cobbler. I love my Biella's too and they are a bit more substantial. Because they are loafers and are constructed differently they make take a bit more time to wear in-i.e. across the front of the foot they will develop a crease. The Darby's don't have that issue. Either way the calf hair is not really practical b/c is will wear away at stress points. If you wear your pants long- so that they rub across the top of the vamp or back of the heel it will wear away. I have seen several pairs come back and we have damaged them for that reason. I think you have to be realistic about these shoes b/c they are expensive but not an every day shoe. I have had my KS ones for years ( round toe and pointed toe) and they still look great but I don't wear them in bad weather and I typically wear cropped or ankle length pants. Good luck- I think everyone should have a pair of leopard print, calf-hair flats- they work with everything!

  13. Any thoughts on the Darby Tassel Loafer (Item #0669)? I was able to get them in all 4 colors on the first day of the 40% off promotion, and they are comfortable and TTS. However, I have several other pairs of suede and patent Darbys, and the tassel ones seem redundant. Even though they were a great deal, they won't be if they sit in my closet! Also, I must have received several "returned" items because every pair came in a different sized box! Some pairs seemed really crammed into too small containers, while another is rolling around in something similar to a boot box. I thought J.Crew, like most retailers who sell shoes, would require the original container.

  18. I've been wanting to stop in the store, but I'm really trying to cut back. I recently bought the Quilted Baby Brompton handbag, and I'm disappointed. I have two other Baby Bromptons, and they are much roomier. After a closer look, I noticed that they are made differently and there isn't the additional bottom to widen the bag in the quilted version. I bought it final sale and used it, so it will just need to be used when I want an extremely small bag. The Baby Bromptons are quite roomy and good for everyday use. I also noticed that my two most recent pairs of Martina's are slightly bigger than my previous versions. I have the apricot mist and blue (can't remember the name) patent from last year, and they fit great. This year I bought the patent poppy and the blush metallic and I think they may be a full half size bigger. They are sold out and I've worn them, so I think I will just be adding shoe pads to make them fit better. Too bad, but just a warning about shoe styles that you think are a perfect fit. I had a similar problem with Kiki's. Black leather fit great, but the cap toe ones in ivory and navy are a bit wide, and don't have the same toe coverage.

  19. My apologies. My floral jacquard dress link went to the J Crew site in error. I've deleted it. Click here to see the review. If you read the review earlier, I now have the correct in-store price. It's $159.99 vs $109.99 online. I also added waist & hip measurements for sizes 6 & 8.

    2. I didn't...I generally wear size s/m and size 6 in boy shirts. I went with the M even though it's a little boxy and roomy. The jacket has a drawstring on the inside so you can make it a little snugger. I probably could have sized down, but I liked it a little bigger in case I wore thicker sweaters.

    1. gracefully - Glad you saw the jacquard dress review. If I didn't mention in the review, I'm 36C. Hope you're able to try it on irl.

Maybe you saw the lace trim swiss dot top on Audreybella and Ebelandi. They both tried the black/white, but the fit might help. I'll look and see if I tried that on, but haven't reviewed it. I keep eyeing the lace pencil skirt, but I'm sure that one's not for me w/the white lace. The colorblocking reminds me of a Factory pencil skirt in wool I tried on in this post. Same color combo, just wool. Don't know about the diamond dot cashmere. Hope some of this helps :)

    2. thanks gigi! very helpful as always! :) i'm 36c too - i thought from the pics that the 6 would fit me similar to how it fit you on the chest. i might pop into the store tomorrow and see if they have a 6 and 8 to try and compare. did you feel very exposed in the 6? like you i tend to pick leg baring styles over cleavage baring styles. i'm just very self-conscious about my bustline i guess.

re the lace skirt - ivory/cream seems to look lovely on you, so i'd think that skirt would look lovely with a similar colored top. i just saw the pictures on the model, and it looked like it poufed up in the belly area. don't need anything to create a fake belly for me!

thanks for the swiss dot top review links. that's a no for me after the fit pics and the poly lining. big help. thank you!

      Delete
    3. Gracefully, seems you've decided against the swiss dot top, but I thought I'd chime in about the misty rose colour since the reviews all seem to be of the neutral. I personally love this top in the misty rose. It is so feminine and delicate in that colour, which I would describe as a blush pink. I wore it yesterday (with inkwell matchsticks) and got compliments - on the colour specifically. Anyway, not trying to change your mind, but for me, this is one of my new fave tops. Love it.

      Delete
    4. IslandGirl, thank you so much for this. I'm actually on the fence, and i keep rocking back and forth - ha! so your review helps a lot. the misty rose is what i was looking at online for myself and i thought this just looks so pretty and i could think of all these outfits i could make with it. then i saw the irl pics of the ivory one and went nahhh, and your review makes me reconsider. again! the polyester lining is really making me hesitate though. i hate polyester. hate how it feels. hate how it doesn't let my skin breathe. not a fan of what the manufacturing does to the environment. and in general, i've been trying to make a point with my purchases to not buy polyester from my favorite stores, as a way to discourage them from choosing crappy synthetics and charging us the same high prices as they did for silks and linens and cashmeres (yes, i am looking at you ann taylor). if i want polyester, i can go to sears, you know? really bugs me that j.crew is doing that now. so yeah, still on the fence.

  35. Hi! This is a little OT, but I usually visit the store in a neighboring town when I have a return from online shopping...And I have a question about returns. I purchases some things from the 40 percent off promo, which were identified as final sale on the website. However, my packing slip does NOT say final sale for these items. Just wondering if I might be able to return them at the store? Thanks for any info!

    3. This happened to me too. The SA acted like it was a huge favor to return the item for me when I just mearly asked if it was final sale because it didn't say on the invoice and I really didn't remember from when I ordered it. I would have happily dealt with whatever the case was but the SA's attitude just irked me. Please J Crew put "final sale" back on the invoices to help everyone out!

    4. I ordered a pair of collection pants back in November. It said Final Sale. I was taking a risk with it, but in the end I decided I didn't like the pants anymore, and take the opportunity of their mistake.

So I emailed J.Crew, and had asked if I can still return the pants I bought, since the item said 'Final Sale' online, but it didn't indicate that on my receipt, and they said I can return it.

You shouldn't encounter any problems. Your invoice is like a contract. That is your proof of payment. If they made a mistake on their part by not indicating 'Final Sale' on the receipt, that's their problem. So happy returning! :)

I found that out, going to the store and the SA mentioned it. She returned it, thankfully. When I got home to check I noticed that I had actually purchased a fs item.

Hope that helps & I hope they fix the glitch.

I went into the store to return my pre-x'mas purchase (thank god for not final sale!) and found the last pair of parker boots that I've been eyeing forever that was stuck at $229+ 40% off forever. I couldn't believe my eyes were I saw the pair marked down to 89.99 and then an additional 50% off, in my size making them $45! I literally took the box and mad dash to the cash register. So happy!!

  47. Went yesterday and only bought a houndstooth wool cap. I think I paid $9 for it. The sale section was picked over so I didn't spend more than five minutes in the store.

OT, HBO is running previews of the new season of Girls and Jenna Lyons is in one of the shots, and is actually very funny. She was wearing a JC sweater that I couldn't find on the site just now.

    2. I didn't take a close look, but I saw A LOT of Excursion Quilted Vests" in all three colours (navy, deep riviera and neon flamingo). Neon flamingo is truly neon, much more so than in the website pic.

  49. Both my local stores had the additional 50% off sale too, but the sale sections were pretty picked over. I did see a good amount of bow popovers, tweed flare dresses, and and gilded paisley lame cate camis. I also saw two stadium-cloth captain coats, both in navy and size 6. One was marked to $179 before the 50%, the other wasn't marked. Lovely coat and I would have got it, but just was a tad big. I was told by the SA that this coat runs big which makes sense since I'm usually a 6 or 8P in coats.

  50. I finally broke down and got the color block funnel neck coat in heather stone. At $239.99 + 50% off, I couldn't resist. I couldn't decide between a red peacoat and a navy one, so this is a happy medium.

    1. wow! what a great buy! do you mind me asking which store this was and which sizes, do you remember, were left? thanks!

      Delete
    2. @suilove, this was the SF Westfield Centre store and was the only size left. But, you can go into any store and place an order (at the in-store sale price) for it with catalog. It looks like the coat is online in sizes 00, 0, 4, and 12.

  51. Finally broke down and bought the Military Parka in Navy! Love this coat! Thanks to all the JCAs who provided reviews- extremely helpful and appreciated : ). I also purchased the Leather Tech Gloves in Black, cashmere lined and fit beautifully. This 50% in store on sale items is a blessing and a curse. Great deals though on some of my most coveted items. Thanks to this blog for having a place to squeal with delight : )

  52. Anyone know when the next rollout is coming? I haven't read anything about it but Fashionista had an article about how great Madewell's spring collection was going to be, crickets about J Crew.

    1. I believe January 15th is the mid-month, smaller rollout. January 29th is the large rollout that will be accompanied by the February style guide.

    2. The store manager at my b&m told me Jan. 29 for stores.

  53. I made an inquiry to cs re: the teddie satchel in blue, and cs said it would be released Jan. 22. Not sure if that is a new roll out date, or just a mini-update rollout??

    1. is this blue...a navy or blue sea (which is a J crew colour that is not navy but not a light blue either.) Did you see it in store ? thanks

    2.  I inquired if they'd be releasing the Teddie in blue because I like the Teddie, and love Blue Sea (I have/love two bags in Blue Sea, & yeah, I'd take another :)
They're releasing it in 'Blue Sky', which is not the same color blue (Blue Facade) as Sophie.  Haven't found anything in Blue Sky on the site yet, only Sky Blue, Morning Sky, Hthr Sky, Light Sky, and omg can there be anymore names w/the word sky to describe shades of light blue???

  54. I stopped in yesterday and picked up a few things, now I'm wishing I'd gotten a few things I passed over. I did come home with the schoolboy blazer in houndstooth tweed, the swiss dot lace top (I agree that it is long, but I have a pretty long torso so I liked how it draped on me. I also took home one of the cheers t-shirts.

My store (Walden Galleria in Buffalo) was pretty picked over - there were several of the jeweled llama sweaters and quite a few of the gold stripe dress (several size 8s) as well as a ton of the flannel a-line suit dress. Hardly any shoes or jewelry but a lot of tees. I'm regretting passing up the pearl tassel necklace and hello tee but I think I'll survive :)

    1. Shopmurphy, I have the schoolboy in houndstooth tweed on it's way to me. I am wondering what to wear as the base layer underneath? I would love to hear how you plan on styling it and what you would wear under? Thank you!!!

    2. @calicoandtweed when I was at the store yesterday I had my oxford blue tilda on and I really liked that pairing with it...I think chambray will work or I'm a big fan of tilda/tippi and a blazer so will probably do a heather burgundy tippi or navy tippi underneath...the right shade of ivory/lighter beige will probably work too...this jacket is a little outside my usual color scheme so I'm going to have to think!

here are the sets on Polyvore using this blazer...hth!

      Delete
    3. @shopmurphy Wow! Thank you so much! I love your combinations- I wouldn't have thought of these myself, I think this blazer will be way more versatile than I had originally imagined - and I bookmarked the Polyvore sets! Genius, thank you soooo much!!!

    4. calico, i don't have the houndstooth schoolboy BUT i have an older houndstooth skirt suit with a fitted jacket. very similar pattern size to the schoolboy. and over the years i have found that it works beautifully as a neutral - as in think of it as beige or gray or black or ivory and then pair away with it. a bright colored sweater or tee. a white or blue button down layered under a sweater. usual combos of red, wine, emerald green or kelly green, sapphire blue, violet, eggplant or deep purple (pretty much any jewel tone goes), a whole range of brights etc. also since houndstooth is so menswearish, especially in the schoolboy cut, pairing it with a simple black or ivory lace top, or one of these swiss dot tops (something delicate and girly) is lovely and fun. similarly some of j crew/bauble bar's shiny baubles do wonders for houndstooth. hope that helps!

    5. @gracefully- as I was reading your note, I started thinking of some of the beautiful tops in my wardrobe that haven't gotten enough wear- all jewel tones! I can't wait to get my blazer and try all the new (to me) and exciting combinations! I am so glad to have this forum to ask these questions and get expert advice : ) Thanks to you and shopmurphy!

  56. TAKENOTE is good for 40% off off end-of-season styles. Was it recently added? Maybe a JCA already shared the info and I missed it. I just noticed it this morning and thought maybe they updated the promo.

  58. I stopped in for a few minute yesterday and picked up the lone pair of Collection Chelsea Monk-Strap Boots (07041), that were marked to $169.99, versus $298 online (down from $350). I bought these because they were grey, an usual but still neutral color, and in spite of the fact that they were a size 8.5 when my normal shoe size is an 8 -- it was the only size, and because lots of JC shoes run narrow (and I seem to recall Wendy writing that monk strap loafers ran narrow), I figured 8.5 is actually my better size. I have not seen any reviews on this shoe -- can anyone comment?

    1. They are in the current promo for 40% off....which online would be $298-40%= $180. This promo is not final sale ...but ends today. Were yours final sale ? Both grey and the black are availablr online.....I am defitinately curious about them as well.

      Delete
    2. audreys - I've been very curious about the monk strap. Did you feel like the 8.5 made your feet look longer?

      Delete
    3. Unknown: yes, definitely FS b/c they were 50% off $169.99, bringing it to only $85. If you purchase online, it shouldn't be FS.

Gigi: yes, the 8.5 was long and extended probably an inch beyond the end of my big toe, but it is pointed and I am quite sure that I needed the 8.5 for the toe box to be comfortable as I have smallish bunions. It wasn't enough to bother me; I have accepted that my feet are not pretty in any way and the best I can do is to make sure the shoes are cute.

As for the shoe itself: it's a very pretty, very unusual looking ankle boot. My heels do slip because of the larger size, but not completely out b/c the straps make them quite fitted (in a good way) around the ankle. I am going to try it with a full insert, as well as just a heel insert, and with varying sock thicknesses; I am quite sure I will get it to work. And in any case, my experience with all JC shoes except the Cece is that they can all use a little extra padding.

As I mentioned, I got the warm grey: I personally love it, it's a pretty, smoky grey that I don't see often (the website photo looks brown to me).

    4. audreys - Thanks so much for the helpful info!

    5. thank you as well....what a steal on the boots...I would have bought them as well. The stores here in Canada did not carry the monk strap boot or loafer...hope you enjoy them...cheers

    6. audreys, both victoria's secret and cvs sell these no slip flower insert thingies, designed to be worn with heels and hose, so your feet don't go sliding inside. they're cushioned but have a low profile so they won't make the shoe tight and they really do work on the no slipping thing.

    7. I have the shoe version and it fits me in my usual regular size. The seam on the side, where the buckles buckle, sometimes digs into one of my feet. It's probably just how that foot fits in the shoe. The boot doesn't have a seam at the same spot. Otherwise I like the shoes. They're sleek and classic.
