J.Crew Dumps Cece for Emma!

JCAs noticed in the latest roll out of new arrivals, that J.Crew is offering a new ballet flat: the Emma Leather Ballet Flats (Item 06697; $125.00).

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Elizabeth Wei, ShopMurphy, & GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew plans on replacing the Cece Ballet Flats with the new Emma Ballet Flats.

When it comes to Emma, I have not personally tried them on. Word among JCAs is that they are comfortable. Although I look forward to trying them on, I really love the Cece Ballet Flats and am bummed out to hear about their departure from the line. The Ceces are a classy little Ballet Flat that could dress up a casual outfit. Too bad they couldn't keep both types around...

The Emma Flats look nice too. I also appreciate that J.Crew kept the interior wedge- a small lift that makes a huge difference. Plus, the elastic ruching on the sides of the Emma Flats made me immediately think of Tory Burch's nappa leather Reva ballet flats. With all that said, I still like the *look* of the Ceces more. The Ceces look more polished, where the Emmas look a bit more casual (due to the ruching).

What are your thoughts on J.Crew discontinuing the Cece Ballet Flats? Have you tried the new Emma flats? If so, what are your thoughts?

Quick Poll: Do you think J.Crew should replace the Cece with the Emma?

  1. I haven't seen the Emmas yet but I am so thoroughly dismayed about losing my beloved Ceces...when my VPS told me they were discontinuing them I let out an audible wail in the store, I couldn't help it! I've bought 3 extra pairs of the Ceces in the past months to stockpile for when my current ones wear out. I hate elastic on flats, I love being able to slip in and out of shoes easilyy, the seams around the edge and bunching make them look less formal.

  2. That's a true bummer. I've never worn flats with elastic- and most I have ever tried on are so uncomfortable, pinching and rubbing. Ceces were great from the get go, plus they had a great padded sole in case I need to run in them. They were great in my line of work- plus the suede just looks better than leather IMHO.

  3. The Ceces were never a good fit for me, but I'm with those of you who don't like elastic on the sides of shoes. I like to slip in and out easily too. I hope they don't discontinue the Darbys. I noticed a new loafer online that looks a bit like them (the Cleo suede loafer). I wish they wouldn't get rid of good things.

  4. I have a "vintage" pair (2009?) of JC ballet flats w/elastic on the side, and they are so cute (a subtle golden metallic type). But they are really uncomfortable. I've kept them b/c they are so cute, but rarely wear them b/c they just don't feel that good on me. That doesn't mean anything w/regard to these new shoes, but if they're like my older pair, I'd be disappointed. On the other hand, my TB Revas fit great and those have some elastic on the side too.

  5. I am confused because in the store I saw these shoes and they have a tiny bow at the toe cleavage part of the shoe which made me LOVE them these however are boring.

  6. I love Ceces and did not realize that they were discontinuing them. I have a couple of pairs of ballet flats with the elastic and boy they are painful and lengthly to break in. I have seen the Emma and immediately said no way. I guess I will be checking my store and online for Ceces on sale and stock up. Because I will not be purchasing the Emma.

    1. Thank you Alexis and JCAs. Made me look at Ceces online and I managed to get a pair in Navy in my size on sale with 40% off, Free Shipping. Plus not Final Sale. Yeah!!

  7. I am in the minority but I cannot wear Ceces (they hit my bone painfully) so I am giving the Emmas a try. I agree that Ceces were a bit classier, the Emmas reminds me of Madewell shoes.

  8. Too bad that the Cece's are going. Saw the Emma in black and brown in B&M today. Not drawn to them as lack hanger (or display) appeal. Very scrunchy look along the sides when on display. Didn't try on as my size not in stock so have to keep an open mind on fit/feel vs Cece. Did notice they were stamped inside "made in Italy" although the online detail just says "imported" vs most other shoes that specifically state Made in Italy in product info.

Its hard to imagine how the Emma is going to be switched up or made a little dressier and classier like the pyramid or studded Cece offerings. I'm looking forward to seeing a IRL JCA review of the Emmas.
OT but still shoes - score! Factory Sylvia wedge just arrived. Shipped in a Martina box with Martina item code 50472 stickered over. Box shows colour as dark Aubergine which is still on sale in very limited sizes on the JC website. Actual shoe colour is a warm raisin-y brownish tone. Factory calls it Cabernet. May be hard to find a good colour of winter tights to wear with it, but for the price and the 40% off I will find ways to style it. Martina such a comfortable staple in a higher heeled shoe.

  9. I ordered the Emma last December and sent it back. Not comfortable and made my feet look stumpy. I don't know if I needed to order a bigger size than my Ceces but don't plan to try again. I don't like elastic in my shoes and prefer the more graceful design of the Ceces.

  10. I emailed them to find out too, I had noticed that all the Cece's were in clearance, and they confirmed that they did not plan to make any more Cece's. I haven't tried the Emma on, but I don't like the looks of them at all. The elastic makes them look cheap. But I am a diehard Cece fan. I have 6 pairs, and I wish there had been more warning about them being discontinued. I would have loved to have grabbed a few more pair.

    RIP CeCe.

  13. I have both the cece and the emma and I like the fit of the ceces better. Seems that in the Emmas they made the toe box a bit narrower. I have a size 9 in the Ceces and they were tight at first but now fit great after stretching. I tried on my new Emmas for the first time tonight in a 9.5 and they feel as tight as my 9 Ceces felt when I first bought them.

  14. I have 2 pair of ceces, 1 leather, 1 suede. I love them both. I went in to get another pair and tried the emmas on. They fit completely different, and not nearly as comfortable. I'm online right now trying to stock up on the ceces.
