J.Crew: 40% Off Select Outerwear, Shoes, Boots & Bags!

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know about the following promotion this morning.

J.Crew is offering customers to take an extra 40% off select Outerwear, Shoes, Boots, and Bags for the entire family with promo code TAKENOTE. The offer expires January 12, 2014. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid on the purchase of boots, shoes, bags and outerwear in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com from January 8, 2014, 12:01am through January 12, 2014, 11:59pm ET. Offer not valid in the 769 Madison Avenue store, Ludlow Shops, Liquor Store, J.Crew Factory stores, at jcrewfactory.com or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. Discount not valid on babies' merchandise, select men's and crewcuts boots and bags, select shoes or third-party branded merchandise. In-store discount automatically applied at the register. To redeem online, enter code TAKENOTE in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promo code per order. Valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change.
Loving/Hating on this promotion. Love: (1) The deep discount. We rarely see this deep on full priced merchandise. Love (2): That it includes the Excursion Vest in Stripe. Love (3): That this applies to both online and in store purchases.

Hate (1): That the additional percent off sale is gone. Is this the case in stores too? Hate (2): Only applies to select merchandise. I would have loved it if they included the solid version of the Excursion Vest.

UPDATE: "Thanks!" to both Mel & GigiOfCa (in this post), as well as Alexandra, who let us know that stores are running an additional 50% off Final Sale (in addition to the 40% off select regular priced items)!!! Now that is how you do it! :)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Is your local store still running a promotion on Final Sale merchandise? If so, please share! :)

  1. I was super happy to see this improved sale... I've been stalking the website every day in the early morning... for a great discount.. Finally it's here. This morning I scored the Majesty Peacoat that I've been wanting in Navy and got my guy the Lodge Moccasins. The extra 40% off helped and I combined with my gift cards.

  2. I had been hoping for new arrivals this morning - was I nuts to expect it?

Boy, there are some "extreme popbacks" this morning. I haven't seen the Collins platform shoe in a couple years at least...

  3. I just got off the phone with a DC store (F St). They are not only doing the 40% off promo, but they are also doing 50% off final sale. Non-stackable, of course :-)

    1. ooh, 50 percent off final sale in stores? must ... control ... self ... I just wish I could get my hands on a crepe cap-sleeve dress to try on. I've seen the reviews from gigi and a few other blogs, but I have such a weird body that I would really love to try it on before getting it. sigh.

  4. My wallet is happy to see the addtl 40% off sale go (I did too much damage), but what's with some of the purses being hiked back up to full price from the sale section, then getting this new promo applied? Like the Claremont purse, for example.

    3. Hi Gigi- are you saying that the promo code HAPPYSALE gets 30% off sale items online? I just tried it and it says code is expired or not valid.

    4. 312JCgirl - I don't believe that happened again!! I think my computer sometimes switches to another country on the J Crew site. I know I saw HAPPYSALE because I grabbed a screenshot of it. I went back and now it's gone. It must be for Canada.

      Delete
    5. Nope. Not Canada. Looks like HAPPYSALE is for non-US, non-Canada. It's working in Australia, India...

SO ODD that my browswer does that because it still shows US as the currency as far as I know. Maybe I'm catching the promo info when they do a site update and it flashes on the US side for a minute. Sorry for the misreporting. It's nice to know I'm not imagining things, though. lol

    6. Gigi, this has happened to me a lot lately too! Especially if I am on my iphone or iPad. You are not alone ;)

Those New Balances for women jcrew has been selling. I really wanted the pebble color but missed it. Should I pay extra for Ebay or do you think they'll restock that color (in common women's sizes)??? Thanks for your thougts!!

    1. I really wanted the Nike Pegasus that sold out almost immediately. I spoke with CS at length and was told that they were a limited edition and that more would not be made. I don't know if its the same for the NB, but its worth calling and asking if they think they'll be making / stocking more.

      Delete
    2. I don't think they will restock, based on past experience with their Nike shoes. You might catch what you want on a pop-back, but I think it's a long shot. If you really, really want them, eBay is probably your best bet.

      Delete
    3. I would also love to get the neon lime and neon mango pairs, but some kind of overall promo code would really get me there. $80 each is still a bit steep, I think. although they're so pretty.

  9. Well, I received a price adjustment on the Collection Studded Penny Loafers (I ordered them back in October or so in the wrong size and returned them and didn't rebuy because they were quite expensive.) They were backordered in my correct size for eons, but I decided that I needed them in my life, so during one of the sitewide 30% off promos, I reordered them in my size for $245. They finally shipped and I received them on 1/3. Today, they are $249 + 40% off, bringing them to a very reasonable $145, so I called and got a price adjustment of nearly $100. Which, I promptly turned around and used to purchase the Viv Metallic Flats in the Heather Atlantic color for $89 after the 40% off. I hope I like these, as they are final sale, but I love my Viv snakeskin flats and wear them all spring, summer and fall.

Phew! The constant price checking and adjusting can get exhausting, but I do love when I feel confident that I ended up with a good deal.

There are a ton of popbacks and new additions in the sale section, but they are far, far less enticing without an extra 40% off.

  10. need advice: I have been wanting the majesty coat in Navy. With this promo, it will be $180 + tax so around $200 for me. I am trying to decide if I should get his now or wait for deeper discount. I know that certain colors do not go on sales as others and I think Navy is one of them. Is the the best price you have seen with basic colors for Majesty coats? I told myself that I would bite if the price was ~130 range. I do have plenty of coats so it's not like I NEED a coat. Also I am little shocked that Jcrew is not lowering prices on these winter coats like other retailers... I thought by now, all the coats would go on markdown with additional % off. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

    1. ladybug007: I agree with Cheri. I needed a everyday color and could not do the bright colors they have on sale. I considered the 40% to be a great deal, plus the coat can be exchanged if the sizing is no good. I purchased mine this morning. Good Luck!

      Delete
    2. Last year I purchased the navy majesty for $100 (bought mid-January).

      Delete
    3. ladybug007 - I try to make those decisions based on the size I need. The petite generally sells out quickly in the neutrals and doesn't popback. I missed my size long ago. If you think your size will be available -- and you'll still need/be able to wear the coat -- then wait. If you need to wear it now, get on it with and the cost per wear will be low.

      Delete
  11. ladybug007: I just got the majesty coat in Navy right before Christmas at 30% off. I think this is going to be the lowest you will see this color. It is super classic and the gold buttons give it a great pop. You will see the other colors go on discount but I doubt you will see the navy - which is by far the best color this season. Go for it!

  12. OT: Did anyone see the Mindy Project last night? I don't even watch it but it happened to be on when I turned on my TV. There she was doing sit-ups and working out in what looked like the J. 13. Does anyone here have that military parka shown on the picture in this post? I've been thinking about it and I can't decide if I'd like it. What color do you have, and how has it been for you, if you have it? Do you get much wear out of it? Sizing? I seemed to be in between sizes in it.

    5. I have this, I normally wear a S in tops and ended up getting the XXS in navy. It fit quite big IMO. Very warm. I live in Toronto and it has been -20C -ish the last couple of days and I've been warm! Highly recommend.

    6. Thanks snowbrdgrl! Maybe I needed to try another size down. It's been so long since I tried it on that I forget the details. I remember thinking it was priced way to high at the time to even consider it, then I lost interest, and now I'm thinking about it again.

      Delete
    7. No, cate, I didn't. It's too much coat for the west coast. I doubt it would get much wear around here.

    8. I have the coat in navy. I love it! It has gotten me through the subzero temps of the past couple of days. The hood it excellent--very warm and stays in place. It runs big. I usually take a medium but went with a small and there is still plenty of room for a heavy sweater underneath. The best JC purchase I have made this season.

  14. I thought this promo was pretty lame for this time of tge year but I am happy that it works for someone (truth to be told I am not looking at outwear at all).
I went to my store to pick up the cashmere heathered stripe sweater that is finally below $100 (my "decency" threshold for cashmere) with the 50% off and also got the tapestry print shirtdress for $99. I really wanted something in this print but the blouse didn't work at all on me (it was too buttoned-up bordering old-ladish on me and strangely didn't fit well in a 0). The shirtdress on the other side is more playful (it has a regular collar to start with) and versatile because you can wear it unbelted with the sash tied at the neck or use it as a belt (it get shorter though). It wasn't too short on me but I don't know on taller gals. The Collection store on Madison has both the blouse and dress in several sizes.
Lastly I got the Collection lace-up booties that were $450 for ... $114. These are not the most comfortable shoes ever but look very high-end and I plan to wear them to dress-up pants in the evening (as I tend to wear my booties more than pumps).

  15. Thank you to Mel and Gigi for the heads up re the 50% off in store -- I would not have gone otherwise! The girls' long powder puffer is marked down in store to $99.99, versus $128 or $138 online, so I got my daughter a coat for next year for $50. Great deal. My store also had the girls' furry hooded puffer in camo, which I think is adorable, marked down to $89.99 (versus $129.99 online) and I got her one of those too, for $45.

Also, for those who haven't tried it, the Jaboneria Marianella soap is great. Sold out online, but my local stores still had several. On sale for $9.99 before discount.

  19. I popped in for a return today, and checked out the 50% off sale. They had fairly slim pickings at my store, but I did finally grab the Knit Sweatshirt Dress ($40 net), grabbed a back-up Merci tee for $10 and some flannel pjs for DH for $15.

  24. Does anyone know if Thinsulate adds a lot of bulk to the coats? I have the old double cloth Colletta coat in a size 0. I was just wondering if I should go a size up if I buy a coat with Thinsulate? Thanks for any opinions!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not in my opinion; I have two Metros-one with thinsulate, one without. Mine without is my normal size, and the thinsulate is a size smaller. Both fit comfortably. The one without thinsulate may be a bit more flattering, but I reach for the thinsulate one on colder days. It may vary by coat style, but I think you should be fine to get your normal size. HTH.

      Delete
    2. Ditto for me. I have several coats with Thinsulate (for me if it's not cold enough for Thinsulate, I just wear a sweater or a jacket, not a coat) and all are in my regular JC coat/jacket size.

      Delete
    3. Julia - I "third" the above opinions. When I bought my Lady Day I assumed that it wouldn't keep me warm during Boston winters. It has been cold this last week, and I've been surprised at how warm my coat has been. I have found the sizing to be rather slim - I can't wear mine with anything more than a lightweight sweater.

      Delete
  25. I noticed they marked the Mcallister wedge boot up. A few days ago it was 120.00 . Now it is priced at 198.00. So with the 40% its the 120.00.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @sukit - the student discount is stackable with the 50%. atleast my store was willing to do it, but i didn't have my ID with me. they take teacher IDs also. and/or, if you show them the email address on your phone (has to be a .edu address), they'll accept that, too.

@ladybug007 - re the majesty peacoat, i agree on the difficulty of finding sizes you need as the days go on. that being said, the majesty peacoat for me had the same issue as other j crew coats in that i have to size way up so that my shoulders don't scrunch up. To wit, I layered a S Tippi on top of a painter tee today and thought ehh, maybe I can even go with an XS (i've got a generous bustline, heehee, so I'm usually hesitant to size down, but hey it looked fine). All my tees are S. And then the majesty, i tried it in 6, 8, 12 -- the 6 and 8 were both way tight on shoulders and armpits, with any layers on. They didn't have any 10s. So I tried a 12 and it was bunching a bit by the shoulders which made me think I can go down to 10 and have it look okay on shoulders and bust. At any rate, the only sizes left in the navy were 00, 2, 8, and 12. And this is at a super large store, so that's an indicator of how fast things go. The best advice was to call and get the exact garment measurements for the majesty then compare it to other j crew coats you have to make sure you get a size that works for you. the coat sizes are just not as predictable, i find.

p.s. if anyone sees a houndstooth tippi in navy/graphite AND/OR artichoke green in S or XS, will you please put it on hold for me or flag me, please? I have been desperately looking for weeks and kicking myself for not buying them when they were full price. ditto the excursion vest in herringbone, in M. serious kicking. THANK YOU!

  27. I just bought the Biella Collection Calf Hair Tassel Loafers in leopard. I've been coveting these for months, waiting for them to go on sale and worrying that they would sell out first. I finally bit on this promo, but it still pains me to spend as much as I did, and I'm not sure I can keep them. Are they really worth $220 (even on sale)? Does anyone have any reviews/opinions of these? I've seen them on a few fashion bloggers, but I've not read any specific reviews of them. Thank you!! :)

  30. In case someone is considering the girls stadium-cloth coccon coat, I just received the one that I ordered with the 40% promo. I took a size 8 because my daughter, even if only 6, is outgrowing the size 6-7 and I bought it for next year. The sleeves are a bit long right now but hopefully this won't be a problem when she is ready to wear it. The coat is same fabric/quality than the women's one and in my opinion there aren't many coats for girls out there this thick and warm and for $83 this is really a bargain (I bought a dress coat at the Gap before the holidays that was $78 and while nice-looking not even comparable). More importantly, when she tried it on my daughter felt very comfortable in it (she coat easily move her arms, also because it is a size too big right now). The only thing is it isn't very long (it hits at mid-thight) so if you are concerned by legs getting cold I would go with the long puffer, which is considerably longer. In all the other cases, highly recommended!
