J.Crew's Website & Tech Difficulties {ah geez!}

As many of you have noticed and mentioned, J.Crew's website seems to be having some "technical difficulties". :( From the comments, it sounds like the website this afternoon/ evening (depending on which time zone) has been fluctuating back and forth from "up & running", running slowly, and "site down".

The website issues, stemming from the upgrade last summer, seem to become a normal staple of shopping on JCrew.com at this point. ;) I know I say this often, but I really mean the following: I hope it gets fixed soon! :) I am sure this can't be good for business. :)

Has the website issues today impacted your shopping and browsing of JCrew.com? At this point, are you accustomed or surprised by the existing website issues?

  1. It is not that great of a promotion fs, compared to the ones before Christmas. It does not take much to take down their site! This has to be fixed once and for all!

  2. I just thought that they're trying to decide whether to promote the free shipping code on their site or not. It's pulled the disappearing act a few times already.

  3. That's why I use an online personal shopper, much less headache that way. They have been able to get stuff for me to that shows as "sold out" on the website - I guess maybe they have access to things before it all gets uploaded every morning on the website. Either way, it's been working great for me. :)

  4. Not again, my mom ended up not ordering two things for my little sister when this happened over the holidays!! arghh. hopefully it will be back soon, for people who have the item of their dreams only a couple clicks away!

  5. I just got the final sale e-mail notification and thought that there were new sale stuff. Surprise! -__- But the customer service reps. are great. I recently machine washed (per its cleaning instruction) the cotton-cashmere cardigan and some of the "genuine shell buttons" either cracked or fell apart completely. Joseph with J Crew promised to send me new ones.

  6. They really need to get their act together on JCrew.com. Maybe they should talk to the people at Bean's or Gap. I've NEVER had a problem on those sites. I'm so frustrated! So glad you did on post on this.

  7. Their site is so silly...I don't know what was wrong with it before the changes this summer?! Don't mess with a good thing, geez. Anyway, it's up again, at least it was for me and I placed an order and got some great deals!

perfect scoop neck tees in dark cloud and spearmint

double serged skirt in bronzed ochre

    argyle vneck cardigan in hazelnut

    tissue rosette cami in champagne

silk/lined pintuck cardigan in light pewter

I had a gift card and used the code :o) I'm most excited about the perfect tee in dark cloud. It had disappeared in xs but it's back again...I'm sure just temporarily.

  8. snapdragon: Don't get too gleeful yet. Wait till you get a shipping confirmation. More likely cancellation!

  9. Off-topic: Has anyone ever had a situation where a package was claimed as delivered, but you never received it? Did you get your money refunded? I ordered two packages that were delivered at around the same time and both have gone missing. :( J.Crew has filed claims, but I wonder what will happen next? Thanks for any help!

  10. Melanie,

I've had that happen to me a few times over the last few months. JC will refund you promptly and file a tracker with UPS. I never heard back from them about the status of the trackers. Never had any problems (except not being able to get my hands on the darn coveted items!!!

90% of the time, I can't reorder cos all sold out by then. JC needs 7 business days for the package to be declared missing officially before tracker could be filed).

How long have your 2 packages been missing?

    ReplyDelete
  11. If there's a tracking number, they'll have an easier time tracking the package but I've never heard back from JC/UPS even when a tracking number was available.

In one case, no tracking number at all, so how could they even bother?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anon, thanks for the prompt response back. :) They've been missing for awhile now ... like a week or two. They said they couldn't refund me, though, until the tracker's finished doing it's tracking thing. Frustrating, because I'd like the charges off my credit card if that's the case. :) Other than that, J.Crew has been great about it. As is always the case with disputes, you always sort of worry about it until it's resolved.

  13. Melanie:
I had a similar situation (mine was delivered to the wrong address; JC took the blame bc they put the wrong address on the package) and so did my sister (her's was exactly like yours). In both of our situations, we contacted JC customer service and our claims were transferred to a special department that handles these cases (it has a name...the tracing dept, i think). From there, they ask you to give them 7-10 days to investigate with the shipper (FedEx in my case, UPS in my sister's) before they issue a refund. My sister got her refund as promised; mine took six weeks and several phone calls and emails. My advice would be to ask for a case record number (in case you have to make follow-up calls like I did) and to watch your credit card statement closely for your refund. Without the record number (sent in the subject line of one of the emails sent to me), I don't know if they ever would've figured it out, as the situation/notes didn't seem to show up in my account any other way. I eventually got my refund, but I did have to be diligent about it. Sorry for the long post, HTH!

  14. I wonder if it hurts that with the holiday hustle and bustle, I didn't keep track of the package as closely as usual. So when I finally thought to check to see if had been delivered, it had been a week or so since it should have been delivered.

    ReplyDelete
  15. smarty: Yes, it does help. :) And it's good to know that it sounds like I will get a refund, once we get past this tracer issue.

  16. I have accessed the website a few times today with no problems. I got 2 of the Merino Portland cardigans (99826) for $29.99/ea in black and melon. I have key lime and it's nice. They are $69.99 + 30% off in stores ($48.99) so the website has the better deal. Also got a scoop neck tee (10258) in jasmine for $14.99. I believe I just saw this on promo for $24.50 in the store today.

  17. Melanie:
Glad to help! It's a bummer situation, I know :( I don't think it hurts that you were about a week late in reporting it; I was too because my package was coming from a store and I didn't have a tracking number (so I was giving FedEx the benefit of the doubt being that it was the holidays). JCrew didn't even question that I had waited. Good luck!

  18. OT -- can someone part with a python print jacket from last Spring? It's has short sleeves and ties with a belt. The tones are camel & white or off-white, if I recall correctly. And I think it's a cotton material. Looking for a size 4 or 6.

    contact: talice71@yahoo

  19. Which long cardigan should I get between the merino Portland or merino Michelle? I can't tell any difference looking at them online. Which color is nicer Champange or Putty? TIA! Is one more fitted than the other?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Can anyone advise on the difference between regular sizes and petites? For instance, if my size is sold out in a 6 regular would I be safe to try an 8 petite?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't know about the Michelle but I have a portland review plus pics of champagne and putty on my blog. The color depends on if you look better in yellow base or pink

    ReplyDelete
  22. If the website is down, why not just call customer service to place your order?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon at 8:08: If you are within the petite height range, you can probably safely order a petite by sizing up from your regular size. I'm 5'-4", which technically puts me at the outside range of petite sizing. My JC jacket size is 6, put an 8P fits even better because I like a shorter body and arms.

Pants can be a problem. The rise may be shorter and if you are long waisted, the pants may not always fit well. Also, if I order petite pants, I have to plan on wearing them with flats because I am 5'-4". I had good luck with the University Pants in Petite this year.

  24. pythonprint: The jacket is called the Python Print Lucia Jacket seen Here . There is one on Ebay but it is a size 2...perhaps if you continue to check the website it will show back up. :)

  25. Hi all,

Well, I've had at least 3 "site's back --- now it's gone" exp.s in the last few hours. I found it to be very discouraging. I try to be good & take frequent snapshots of my shopping cart so I can have some info if I choose to call. However, I never seem to have the opportunity to check the few items I'm interested in before the site goes down.

    Oh well, at least I'm keeping my promise not to by too much online this season. Thanks JCrew for helping me stay on budget :}

    Good luck everyone,

    Heather:D

  26. Just took a look at the Michelle and Portland cardigans. I do not own any of them but am considering the Portland given the bargain price. So here are the differences I noticed between the two:

    1. Cut of the shoulder/ sleeves
Michelle has something similar to the raglan sleeves style/ shoulder but Portland does not.

    2. Hem
Michelle has ribbed trims in both cuffs and hem but Portland does not.

    3. Trims
Michelle has slightly wider trim and Portland thinner ones.

    4. Colors
They all look identical to me!

So the verdict is I am getting the Portland ;)!!!

  27. Any ideas how different is the Melon color from the Salmon color?

    ReplyDelete
  28. i was in the stores and bought two portland cardigans today, black and champagne. i regret not getting navy, melon and key lime...i'm thinking about going tomorrow to get them. i love the fit and length for both skirts and pants, and you can dress it up or down...and the price was such a deal. i feel so stupid to have only bought two.

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh the portlands are in store? then do they qualify for the extra30 off?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I ordered the wool shift dress in a size 2. They sent me a size 12!

I wrote them an email so I hope they can replace it. I usually wear a 0, but I figured 2 would be okay. I opened the package and I was like, gee, this seems rather large... :)

    Totally disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. anon, 9:46

i asked them to price match online and they also gave me the extra 30%. yeah ok i've convinced myself...for sure i'm going tomorrow to get the other three colors.

  34. suilove - 5 of the same item? Wow! That's insane!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. sorry this is OT, but i thought some JCAs were looking to get the Ava dress. I saw a BUNCH both colors at the burlington, ma store today for 49.99 with the additional 30% vs. 59.99 online for those of you in the area!

i tried one on in a 0 but i really didn't see anything too special about it in terms of fabric and fit. maybe a belt would have made the world's difference.

    ReplyDelete
  36. anon 10:19

yes i've been told by many that i have gone completely insane LOL. i tend to do this at jcrew...this being buying so many colors of the same item. in my closet, i can count 8 cambridge cable-knits...all 4 merino rose cardigans, all 3 merino rosette tanks, 6 pairs of matchstick cords, 3 silk dupionis, all 5 quinn camis, all 3 maisie blouses, 4 dream turtlenecks, 5 tartine cardigans, 4 pairs of juliet midheels......i mean with all the additional %off promos and the red card i really went overboard this season...

JCA for me is definitely...JCREW ANONYMOUS.

  37. OT, does anyone here have the Clara chiffon cardigan? I need a cardi to wear over my Hilary dress. I was hoping to use one of my Jackie's, but it cuts off the dress in a weird spot. It looks like the Clara might work since it is cropped, and it would add a little something to the dress (which is black). Thanks in advance!

Anyone else see this article about Michelle Obama? They mention JCrew a few times. I hate how at the end someone they quote in the article lumps JCrew and the Gap together. How insulting! (I buy things at Gap occasionally but honestly, it cannot be equated with JCrew!)

  42. cafecapri:
I own both the Michelle in putty and the Portland in champagne (I intend to return one, haven't decided). Here's my take.

Both ran big, imo. I sized down one size because of arm length, mostly. I can't comfortably button because of sizing down, but I don't intend to. For fit help, I am pear-shaped, 10/12 bottom, 6/8 top and took a S in both cardigans.

Both have pretty enamel(?) buttons for a tone-on-tone look.

Both are thin sweaters, good transitional weight.

Michelle is thinner than Portland and Michelle sleeves are much longer.

Both colors are ivory/cream but Putty (Michelle) is more of a taupe, imo (brown/yellow undertones, no pink). Champagne (Portland) has pink undertones.

I bought the cardigan to go over the Zoey in Camel, as shown on the website. My dilemma is that I prefer the fit of the Portland, but the color of the Michelle (I am 5'5" and the sleeves are annoyingly long). If you don't intend to wear it tone-on-tone like I do, I'd say go for the Portland because it is a little thicker (still thin, but less likely to snag, I think) and the price is great!

    HTH!

  43. repost from the exchange thread:

I put a sz2 camel maggie and a size 0 white victoria shirt on hold tonight. Email me for location/name of the hold jcbellemarie at gmail. There was also a size 12 or maybe a 10 in the victoria 89.99 and 30%

The size 0 was a mannequin one.

I also saw lots of: snow leopard blouses, metallic pheobe, one pair of juliets in driftwood sz6, droopy flower astrid in pink (sorry forget the size, maybe a 6?). Still addtl 30%, but lots of empty shelves (sad!)

  45. JCAnonymous collegues, you would be proud. Today I returned a velvet ecole and candy tee, and though I was tempted by suiting (lots on sale), pajama pants, portland cardigans and more, I ended up with a net return by a long shot.

I HAD to pick up the cutest mens tie (which *I* will wear a la gossip girl) - navy with tiny yellow tiger/lion critters if you can call them that. SO cute, marked 59.50 but rang up at 19.99 then addtl off!

  46. Anon at 8:08, just to second what another poster mentioned, if you are on the border of regular and petite, in many cases you will be able to take a P one size larger than your size in R, though sometimes it depends on the style and your individual proportions.

I am 5'4" with short legs and an hourglass figure. I have a lot of items in 6 R and 4 R, but in most cases a 6P fits me best in dresses and suit jackets. This year, however, I've found that the P suiting dresses ran short and I was better off in a 4R. I can't wear petite pants at all; the rise is off.

If you're interested in a particular item you might see what folks say here about how that item runs.

    GL!

  47. The website has impacted my ordering experience - I've had numerous orders cancelled because the website has shown certain items in stock (for weeks on end in some cases) that are sold out in the warehouse. I also missed snagging a much desired Bella jacket late this Summer because of site issues. Still mourning that one. I've cursed the JCrew site many a time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey everyone...I'm a big-time lurker here -- had to say I'm really sorry to have read about all of your horror stories of missing items and/or getting the wrong items for the last few months. I've been placing crazy big orders along with everyone else since the summer, and have had no problems with any of them - I think the fact that my hours are odd and I order late at night (or early in the morning, depending where you're at) may make a difference. I'm a night owl who online shops at midnight or one AM on the west coast. The site is always pretty fast, too. I don't know if this will help anyone, since only zombies have my schedule and they don't care about clothes too much. Anyway, there's my first post.
