Yay! I am so excited, I can't wait to go! I'm trying to keep mt expectations realistic, but I am so hoping to find some great bargains! :-)
ReplyDeleteWith at least 20,000 units, there is sure to be some good deals and interesting items. I can't wait. Maybe this will become an annual event!
ReplyDeleteI have really high expectations too, I hope I'm not disappointed. I can't believe it's so soon too. The only thing I feel weird about is that I've been glued to CNN all weekend watching the Obama activities and considering I took the day off Tuesday, I won't be watching the inauguration, I'll be sorting through cardboard boxes looking for cheap sweaters. Oh well... : )
ReplyDeleteWait...no fitting rooms?
ReplyDeleteI'm SOOO envious of all you lucky people who get to go to the sample sale! I'm out in CA and if airline tickets weren't so expensive, I'd totally be there! Happy shopping and let us know what great deals you find!
ReplyDeleteUp to 70% off retail prices? That's not so great. The stuff I buy online is often 75-80% off of the (inflated) original price. Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone -
ReplyDeleteA little late to the Weekly Sales Post, but my dad is selling a pair of size 6 Lizzie Tumbled Leather Driving Mocs on EBay.
They have been worn once by my mother who then decided she didn't love the color enough to keep them but what with final sale they couldn't be returned!
Here is the link - they are priced at $35 starting bid and $60 buy it now with $1 shipping.
I hope someone else gets to enjoy them, I wish they fit me!!!
Woops! Here is the link:

If anyone is looking for Lizzies, I got mine for $35 in store weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteFor shy girls worried about fitting rooms:
ReplyDeleteWear a snug fitting spaghetti strap bra/cami combo and long very opaque dark tights under your clothes. You can strip down to this with ease, and no one will even notice. There are very few things you can't try on effectively this way-maybe swimwear-thats about it.
Anyone that is going if you find a size Large or Extra Large in the colorblock Martine Cardigan from last season in the pink and orange please scoop it up and I will pay u!! I have been looking daily for it and do not want to pay $110 on ebay!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Ashley
I wish they did a sample sale in San Francisco as well!
ReplyDeleteI hope that those of you who go won't mind sharing details on this blog :)
Wish there was a sample sale here (I am in Florida). Wish I could be there to scoop up some L/XL deals
ReplyDeleteI'm in Philly and thinking of going up to NY for a day for the sale. But the flier says that sizes will be limited b/c its a sample sale, so for anyone going on the first days, could you report back about sizing availability?
ReplyDeleteI'm a 0/2, xs/s for most things at jcrew, and don't want to go if most of the deals will be 8's.
Thank you!

Ah, and what's more American and patriotic than taking that good old train ride from Philly to New York for the shopping experience? Surely, GW did it for wigs back in the day...
I'm going to be there friday, so if/when everybody reports back on their tuesday findings i'll be really greatful! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHEY EVERYONE...
ReplyDeleteI know this has been talked about (somewhat) but I was wondering how the glenbrae leather boots work out. Especially the extended calf version, as I will be getting that. After years of soccer, my calves are big (but healthy, nonetheless) and I'm not sure if I would fit into a EC glenbrae. oh, i'm a size 7.
Also, I hate it when boots bunch up at the ankle... not sure if you know what i mean... but when the ankle opening is too wide and all the leathery fabric gets bunched up on the bottom. that's why boot hunting is so hard for me, bc i hate that and on top of that i have large calves.
pleeease help me out ladies. any/all comments are welcome. THANKS!
alyssa: i have the camel flat glenbraes in a size 7 EC version. they are really comfortable but the difference between the EC version and the regular version is like half and inch...kind of stupid to even offer when its BARELY different. i have sooooo much trouble fitting into boots as i was a soccer player as well and have a super small foot (size 6). i am about a 12 on top and bottom in all j crew clothes so i'm not sure why NO BOOTS IN THE WORLD fit me lol. i highly recommend them. the only reason i can fit into them is i had the calf stretched. they are still too small for me to tuck my jeans into which kind of sucks bc they were so expensive. you will love them and the EC version will fit you just fine without bunching. these boots are actually fairly narrow in the ankle which helps prevent that. good luck!
ReplyDeleteI know this is a long shot but would greatly appreciate it if anyone would grab the Chunky Star Cable Popover for me, if you see it in the sample sale!

Thanks a ton in advance :)

Anyone in the Philly area willing to do some 'personal shopping' for me at the sample sale? I would love to go but have other obligations. I am looking for aize 10 shorts and summer t-shirts in a medium or large. Is anyone commuting up there together?
ReplyDeletelindsay: thanks so much for your input... my calves are about 15" and i dont know if i will be able to take the boots to stretch them. eek, i dont know, should i get them? and how about the camel color...hmmm
ReplyDeleteI suspect we're gonna be seeing a lot more J Crew on ebay after the sample sale...
ReplyDeletealyssa: my calves are about 15.5 to 16 inches (i just measured them and it depends on how tightly i pull the tape measure lol). the only thing is if they barely fit, they don't zip all the way up so it's hard to get pants in. over tights i can wear mine. i am only 24 and i have to shop at old lady plus size stores for boots, it's absolutely depressing as there are only like 2 somewhat cute pairs out there. i would try them and if they don't work for you, you can get them stretched at a shoe maker for like $12 (i am in nyc so i am sure it's cheaper everywhere else). you could always call CS and tell them they didn't fit and you need to return them once you get them. that has always worked for me saying they are online only and there was no way to try them on. i have returned a few final sale items because of this (final sale with no exchange is so stupid...at least give us all store credit haha). i would give up an arm to be able to wear these over jeans the camel color is so unbelievably gorgeous! definitely try them, no question! i think you will really love these boots!
ReplyDeletecompletely OT, but holy price adjustment on the grenada palm cami! it's now $160, compared to the $224 or $240 (can't remember exactly) it was originally. all i have to say is welcome to my shopping cart.
ReplyDeletei've been going to other sales at clothingline for some time, and here's some of their weird rules. usually the rules change depending on the brand they're selling, but these i think tend to stay the same regardless:
ReplyDelete1. when they say no dressing room, they usually have one mirror out on the floor. just ONE. so everyone will have to fight over it.
2. no baby carriages, so leave the kiddos at home. mandatory bag and coat check.
3. they take major ccs, but not discover.
4. they usually don't allow refunds, but will let you exchange sizes if you bring it back within the days of the sale.
5. they usually mark prices during the last days of the sale.
good luck everyone! see you there!
Monica re: dressing rooms: Some of us are hardened veterans of the Barney's twice-yearly sale that they have in an airplane hangar (the sale is seriously huge). There are no dressing rooms. We prepare like it's old military-style routine.
ReplyDeleteWear slip-on shoes, leggings and a men's A-shirt (affectionately referred to by some as "wife-beaters"). Everyone just strips down in the aisle and tries all the clothes over their base layer, without even a second thought.
Good luck.
Ugh, train ticket from Phila to NY is over $100 for a round trip....yuck.
ReplyDeleteNot much longer to wait for all of you who get to go...have fun! :)
ReplyDeleteGwen,
ReplyDeleteIf you take SEPTA and NJ Transit, it's around $40 round trip. It takes longer but saves a lot of money. That's how I'm going up on Wednesday.
Jackie
Would love feedback from those attending Tuesday/Wednesday. Am hoping to make a trip on Friday, but it depends on whether there are any really good deals.
ReplyDeleteJackie-
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I was REALLY thinking about going since I'm a size 8/10 and that is the rumor 'sample size' but I just don't have the time. I'll have to live vicariously through your trip. Good luck & happy shopping!
I arrived at 9:40am this morning. I was probably #125 in line. They let the first 100 people in and then it was one in one out. I waited outside for about and hour before it was my time.
ReplyDeleteThe racks were organized by type then color with "sizes" mixed in. Most of the samples you will recognize. The items that were marked with a size did not go above a size 8 (no Petites or Talls.) Most pants and shorts were not marked. You could find a deal in the outerwear if you are a size 6-8. The dresses were well marked but, ALL $60. You could find some real dress deals or get ripped off. I stuck to the cashmere sweaters which were $60 as well and most were x-small or small but, not marked. I found some silk treasure tops for $25 (the rack above the shorts.) The accessory boxes were a mess of a mix and I didn't see a shoe section.
I hope this helps. Enjoy the samples!
