thanks for posting! so excited for next week! see u girls there :)
ReplyDeletei wonder if it would be worth going if I can't make it on the first couple days but on the weekend? i'm just afraid that all the good stuff will be gone and the selection will be extremely picked over by saturday?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this...just for clarification, are the "samples" only model sizing like 0 and 2 or are they all sizes...
ReplyDeletejordan to clarify the "sample" size is actually an 8
ReplyDeleteAlexis- Why must you tease us with this Sample Sale post? LOL. I am so sad I can't attend. I live on the west coast!
ReplyDeleteI live on the West Coast so bummer for us here but good luck to all of you on the East Coast.
ReplyDeleteI hope people who go will report back and let us know how it went!
I'm beginning to wonder if it'll be a case of great expectations ... sounds enticing, but maybe it's just j.crew trying to unload unpopular stuff.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above. I'm considering taking off of work, but worried everything will be awful. Also, there's only summer and spring styles. I was hoping to snag some sweaters for fall/winter. I wish there was a way to know what they have beforehand.
ReplyDeleteSuilove: It sounds like they will replenish items every day. Also, it sounds like prices will be super low on the last few days (to clear inventory out). So it might be better to go towards the end of the sale. :)
ReplyDeleteSpring Forward: I know the teasing feeling too. When that warehouse sale was going on in Utah, I was soooo upset that it was nowhere near me. :)
Sweet! I'm super excited for this, I cannot wait! I don't have any other option except to go on Saturday, but I'm thinking positive thoughts haha. Hopefully there will still be some madewell clothing left by then so I can check it out on the cheap!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to go to this! I hope all of you who get to go have a fantastic time, and find tons of great deals! :)
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the group of Jealous JCAs! Let us know what you lucky gals snag at the sale :)
ReplyDeleteCool, can't wait. I shall be donning a wig to blend in.
ReplyDeleteI hope not ALL the clothes are just a size 8 :(
ReplyDeleteIf so, I guess I'll just focus on clothes for gifts, my husband and son.
I'm crossing my fingers that there will be a bunch of overstock items, too!!
I'm very seriously debating going to this! So wait...I know I'm not versed on model sizing but will there be a variety of sizes?? or just Size 8's?? I usually need a 6.
ReplyDeleteBLACK CASCADING FLOWERS BOUCLE ASTRID
ReplyDeleteI was shipped the wrong jacket and got the black cascading flowers boulce astrid in size 4 by mistake. The correct jacket is on the way and I will return this one this weekend. I know this is sold out, so if anyone is interested, let me know and when I return it I can try and put it on hold for you. I know it's on sale now, maybe $160-200ish.
I've been to a few jcrew sample sales...The sample sizes are size 8, but there will probably be a variety of sizes due to other merchandise (overstock, etc.). If you're in the area it might be worth checking out, but people planning on traveling more than an hour may have their hopes up a little high.

ReplyDeleteThere won't only be size 8s. No businesses would make that type of decision. I mean, would Baskin Robbins sell only one flavor?
ReplyDeleteJeff, you crack me up! Love your comments.
ReplyDeleteOT - I just received a package of items I ordered right after Christmas. Crazy, I know, but I live in Canada and it can take FOREVER sometimes!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, a couple of interesting things. I ordered the track short swimsuit bottoms. A friend of mine had them last year and they were sweet. Label says "made in Canada". Nice. We do have some wonderful garment manufacturing in eastern Canada. They fit nice and although I have mostly tiny bikinis, this offers a little more coverage as an option. They look exactly as featured online.
Among the other items were the double-serge skirt in black, which, as many have said, is such great quality and fits like a dream and the piece de resistance, the Mod Herringbone Mini. I love, love, LOVE the mini! It is so flirty and fun and the little bit of metallic thread makes it out of this world cute. I have some ivory heels that I tried with the skirt and when I modeled it my husband was floored. I even got a "Wow, that is awesome!" The wool and silk blend fabric has a beautiful drape and it is very well-constructed. Soooo nice, I wish it came in more colors.
The rest of the stuff, university pants, herringbone and velvet ecoles, metallic-flecked skirt, glenbrae boots, heirloom cashmere henley and others were all what I expected but I was so impressed with the skirts and track shorts, especially the mini.
Alexis, maybe a good topic for a future post could be items that we ordered and exceeded our expectations and why. For me, especially the Mod Herringbone Mini was totally better than I had ever imagined, just so lovely, I felt like I looked as good as the model online.
There has been a lot of discussion around J.Crew items that are of poor quality, maybe we could talk about those items that are really great for a change.
Anyway, back to the sample sale discussion. I can't wait to wear my Mod Mini this weekend. My friends will be envious of this gorgeous skirt and I will love it!
Jeff you are HILARIOUS!!! But seriously, I'm sure there will be more than just size 8. Have fun everyone that is going...I'm so jealous.
ReplyDeleteTotally O/T, but I'm curious how the Lulu peep toes fit. Did I read someone that they run a little big??? TIA!!
Sorry about my completely poor grammar in the above post. I'm so exhausted....I've got to go to bed!!!
ReplyDeleteHave you heard? The bird is the word...b b b bird bird bird...bird is the word!
ReplyDeleteSorry about my long post. I've come back down to earth now. But I still love the mod herringbone mini! I've been ordering from J.Crew for over 10 years and this is one of the best items I've ever received.
ReplyDeleteAll you JCAs at the sample sale - enjoy! Hope you get some wonderful things.
Now I REALLY want to go, but to see Jeff wearing a wig!
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to cashmere! Do you know if it's CC and Cash or just one or the other?
ReplyDeleteDon't know if factory stuff will be mixed in with retail but a factory store SA told me items made for factory will have 2 diamond under the jcrew name on tag vs3 diamonds or no diamonds at all for retail items.
ReplyDeleteSound like many jcas will attend. Could also turn event into way to meet other jcas as you look for treasures. One could wear something on lapel to identify u as a jca: how about pinning a cutout picture of everyone's fab pin: the bug pin. Ha! Anyway sounds like gobs of fun like Filene's wedding dress event where the soon to be brides vie for a chance to score an awesome dress at fabulous price. Have fun! Wish I could be there. Wonder if DH would mind my taking off a few days while he takes care of kids. Return favor for all the Sundays spent watching football while I took the rascals to playgrounds and museums. Yeah, right!
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I own metallic Lulus heels and they are TTS and very comfortable unlike other JC shoes. I ordered leather Lulu heels after falling in love with metallic version.
ReplyDeletemod mini maniac - i love the mini too -- especially for $20! it looks really cute with dark tights and high boots too.
ReplyDeletethere was a retail-only skirt just like it (6 buttons) in black and dark charcoal grey plaid (thicker fabric) this season. I bought it but then decided on keeping just the camel one. The black one is on sale racks now, but I haven't seen any in my size locally.
Help! There was an ivory satin clutch with a large rose (made out of the ivory satin fabric) online on the sale section two days ago. I went to bed and was planning on buying it the next day and *gasp* its GONE! I really NEED this clutch for my wedding, it matches my dress perfectly.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has it in ivory, please please I will buy it from you! I'm heart broken that its not there anymore. :(
Please email me at stephdesmarais@gmail.com
Thanks!
Jeff, I always laugh at your comments too :) It's too bad I'm in CA, otherwise, I, too, would come just to see you sporting the wig.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the thoughtful comments. I'll be glad to entertain you all during the sample sale.
ReplyDeletewait, your baskin robbins has more than 1 flavor???
ReplyDelete:)

ReplyDeleteleslie, the lulus ran at least 1/2 size large on me.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go--I wear a size 8 in tops and bottoms--bet I could clean up--but I doubt I could stand the crowds...not up for that:(
ReplyDeleteLeslie: I'd purchased the Lulu Peep Toe Heels in a 9 1/2 (which I've worn in every other J.Crew shoe style forever...) and they were a bit big so I returned them. On a whim, I ordered the same shoes in a 9 a few weeks ago and they fit like a glove.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it depends on the person, but I found them to run a half size big as well.
I tried the LuLu's on in the B&M and I found them to run 1/2 size big...strange for me @ Jcrew.
ReplyDeleteI was contemplating going to the SS in NYC on the 20th. Then I realized that it is the big day for the new Pres...I don't want to be in NYC on the most potentially dangerous day of the year. Lots of security alerts from the FBI coming in lately for that day in particular. Be careful if you go!
mod mini: I find the contrary, J Crew has improved the processing to Canada, it ships out in 24 hrs, and takes 4 -5 days to get to me, not including weekends.
ReplyDeleteLike some of you I am nervous that my expectations will exceed the experience. It will be fun to see samples that were never manufactured and maybe it will a good chance to stock up on favorites (cashmere, shorts, fav fit chinos, tees). I'll be there the 2nd day- tsk on them for holding the 1st day on Inauguration Day.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the fit info of the Lulu's. There's nothing like buying a shoe you love on FS and having it flop off your foot!!
ReplyDeleteAlexis - on Tuesday, could you please make a post for "Reports from the Sale", so we can all go to that one place and read them? I want to read about it on Tuesday to determine if I should take off work and go later in the week!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you were going to do this anyway, but just wanted to suggest it if you weren't :)
I've been to Clothingline samples sales before. They put new stuff out each day. They have a range of sizes. The cheapest deals are at the end of the week. The best time to get there is the start of the day (things are more orderly). Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - I just sent you an email regarding the Satin Fleur clutch in Ivory. :-)
ReplyDeleteStephanie - there's also an adorable new silk clutch on the website called gala that also comes in ivory. Not on sale though.
