J.Crew Updated Website (new catalog available too!)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GoldenMeans, Jeff, Anon at 4:45AM, Smarty, & Anon at 7:08AM (in this post), as well as FFM (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew updated its website (click here).

The website now offers new arrivals for her and for him. Also, the J.Crew Collection section has been updated and is definitely worth checking out (click here).
They also have the latest catalog available (which can also be viewed in its entirety here). I think Lauren Hutton looks amazing- and the clothes look fantastic on her! :)

J.Crew also offering "20% off your first purchase when you open a J.Crew Credit Card (for a limited time only)*" (click here to learn more).

What are your thoughts on the new catalog (e.g. what do you think of Lauren Hutton as their model)? Are there any new arrivals that you love or would leave? If so, please share! :)

  1. I haven't received the new catalog yet, but hope to pick one up while at the Providence, RI B&M today.

I'm happy to see Lauren Hutton back again, I think she exemplifies the fact that the brand can be ageless.

  2. All I can think when I look at the new arrivals page is BLAH. Such sad colors. But I'm sure when I see things in person I'll change my tune.

Also... molten metallic perfect shirt reminds me a little too much of the whisper lame slim shirt that has been languishing in final sale at $19.99 for months. Not sure about that one JCrew!

I do really want to try the "garland cami" in that pretty green color!

  3. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but are all stores having an additional 50% off Winter sale merchandise? I was at my B&M but only saw the 30% off sign. I was going to ask them but forgot. TIA!

Lots of cute stuff I was able to try on:

    -tissue rosette tee: TTS
    -puff sleeve tee: runs big
    -cascading ruffle tank: runs big
-crossover v: didn't try this on but looked at it, and it looks like it runs big
    -annie cami: runs big
-brown flower tee: didn't try this on but it looks like it runs TTS

  4. With the exception of the Lorelei dress, I could really take or leave most of the spring arrivals. I tried on some of the patterned short last night and they looked horrible.

PS. This is way OT, but I visited a J. Crew store while I was in Japan. I thought some of you might be interested in hearing about it so I posted some pics and more info on my blog.

  5. Oh I forgot to mention, there was a size 6 Madeline dress in purple 50% off at Tysons, and a size 10 Victoria shirt in white also 50% off.

  6. Love the gladiola tank & pretty lt. green tank too, love the merino chiffon rosette cardi, some pretty things, but, will wait for sale. Love, love, Lauren Hutton, agree w/ preppy Sue, she does show JC is ageless! Love how JC styles its models, catalogues. Might go to BM today to checkout stuff, but, I need to seriously stop spending $$

  7. I wish I could see the new rollout. I am still 'banned' from the website. Anyone else?
I have coffee in hand and my shopping shoes on (my fuzzy slippers) and nowhere to shop :(

When will JCrew get it together? How hard can it be to fix these website glitches? Really, customers 'forbidden' the website? No access for more than 24 hours? The whole IT department should hang their heads in shame. Mickey seems to be so on top of the business in every other aspect . . .I can't believe he does not know (or care) that a segment of his customer base cannot spend their money in his store. In this economy, JCrew actually has customers ready to spend money on their product and are turned away. Unbelievable! (Sorry about the rant, but I feel better now!) :)

  8. BirdE:
I live in Okinawa and there is no jcrew here for me. Fortunately I can get it sent here. It's interesting to see that Yokohama has a store now, but prices and sizing is definitely not the same!! I've gone on desperate "I MISS HOME" shopping sprees at Banana Republic in Tokyo, and the prices are ALWAYS higher and the sizing is japanese. I'll definitely have to consider that given my screen name but for now, I'll stick to ordering from the site.

  9. McShoppy,

You need to unplug your internet connection, wait a sec, plug it back in and restart your computer. YOu should be good to go. JCrew's server is banning your IP address. Same thing happened to several of us since Wed. JCrew really sucks (sometimes)...I know what you mean!

    ReplyDelete
  10. On another note, I got the cluster ring, the pearl cluster bracelet, the rosette tee in that pinkish shell, and the fan eyelet mini. Everything else was just ok to me and I can definitely wait.
The Lookbook has gorgeous things and I can' wait to see what else is headed our way.
Jcrew's definitely taking a cue from the original rose tees from a couple of seasons ago and working that tattered chiffon angle. I wanted to just say, "take it easy."

  11. Hi Preppy Sue!
I also shop at Providence and was thinking of going today since the website won't let me access . . .small world in this small state (and our neighbor to the north). However, I need to clean out closets and find a home for all the sale stuff that has been coming in over the week. I was in Prov. on Monday and the FS stuff was really picked over (almost nothing left) but the lovely spring items were out (and already sizes were limited in some things). I'd love to hear if they have anything good left in the 12/L range in sale. Do you have a personal shopper there?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Just to put JCrew's OUTRAGEOUS shipping costs into perspective...I live in the UK off and on...I enjoy shopping Dorothy Perkins...anyway...it costs a flat rate of $15 (20 pounds) for them to ship any amount of items to the U.S.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hi Anon,
I have done the modem thing several times yesterday. No dice. Very frustrating . . .anyone else done the modem thing and still no access?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The chukka Sperry topsider boot is calling my name .... I can hear it over and over calling me and my Visa to bring it home.

Other than that maybe a couple of pique polos and maybe the chambray driving cap. Seems both J.Crew and I are going more retro all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Weird...did they change the name of the Annie cami? It looks like it is the same as the Solid Silk Garland cami. Perhaps I'm seeing things.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Already placed my order, the tees are really nice.

Has anyone seen the Sweet Lemon color? Is it neon?

Has anyone tried on the Saturday Pants, there is stretch in them so I am wondering how they fit?

    ReplyDelete
  17. McShoppy,
Sorry that did not work for you. It did for me after I got the Forbidden thing for 8 hours on Tuesday. It is really weird how JCrew is blocking you!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Also...where is the cute beige-ish tee with the small white flowers on it? That was the first thing I looked for...does anyone else see it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. lleila, J. Crew B&M is having additional 50% off any items with red mark on the sticker price and additional 30% off for non red mark.

    ReplyDelete
  20. no free shipping code :( wondering if its worth it....

    ReplyDelete
  21. casual-crew: I tried on the Saturday pants and think they run small. I normally wear a 2 in J.Crew pants, but found the 4 a better fit in these. Also, the Shell color is very sheer.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks ffm, I might have ot order 2 sizes and pick the best one, I am looking at the pewter color.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am pretty excited about the new stuff (and the color scheme - I am more of a "muted color gal"!) Love a bunch of sweaters and the silk ruffle tank. I'm not so keen on the tees - but that is a personal preference.

My B&M does not have most of this stuff (well as of this past weekend) Anyone know when it is supposed to hit stores?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm liking the new stuff online more than what I saw in my local store! They didn't have that many pieces (it's such a small store, bleh).

    ReplyDelete
  25. My IP address is also being blocked. I have unplugged the modem with no success. I ran off a note to j.crew about the issue and have yet to receive a reply.

    ReplyDelete
  26. McShoppy,
I will take a look at the FS for you. I usually buy FS online, store stuff is always so picked over.

In the Providence store, I usually work with Gwen (crewcuts) and Rochelle.

    ReplyDelete
  27. the cherry blossom tee with the little flowers might be retail only. I got it yesterday at a B&M can't WAIT to wear it. FYI, the little flowers on it are actually a very light gray, not ivory. the Light gray Jackie will compliment it perfectly.
    so many fun new arrivals!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The web site is still messed up today. I can look at the items as a group (i.e., I can see the page of tops), but if I click on any particular item (sale or not) I get the message that the site is not available. So ridiculous. JC should do what Banana does: on the rare occasion that the BR site is down, you get a message with a code for free shipping on your next order.

On a different note, has anyone tried on the swimwear? I'm interested in the foldover short bottoms (if I can ever see the page). Anyone know how they fit?

    ReplyDelete
  29. The "boyfriend tee" in the catalog made me laugh. Just go pick up a Hanes.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If anyone goes to their B&M and sees the small floral earrings in person, I'd be curious how big they are. If they are tiny/studs, I think they'd be really cute - but I'm guessing they're pretty large, judging from all the other J Crew jewelry... Thank you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Who is the old dude in the catalog? Is he supposed to be someone famous? Looks kinda like Leonard Cohen.

    ReplyDelete
  32. OT-
I bought the double-serge pencil skirt this morning. I am normally a J. Crew 8 on the bottom because of my ample backside. I was able to find this in a 10P in black this AM. If you have this skirt, how have you found it to fit? I was wondering if I'll need to have it altered. I won't have to have it hemmed as I'm only 5' tall.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nojcrewinjapan:

Are all of the Banana and J.Crew sizings in Japan petite? Or are they Japanese numbers on American proportions? Because if they're actual Japanese sizes (meaning smaller and shorter), then I'm seriously considering a trip!

What I *DO* like about this month's JCrew collection is the LARGE SELECTION OF DECENT PETITES! They do this like, maybe three times a year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm a little bummed the Library Shawl cardigan only comes in pewter and putty...it was sooo soft and lovely and I'd love to get in a more transitional color. I really like the Cate patterned slingbacks. And I have a skirt from J.Crew from 2005 or so that looks just like the Beachcloth ruffle skirt but is made out of twill...interesting to see them bringing the pattern back in a new material.

I have already purchased the rosette tee in both colors but will probably hold off on anything else until the rewards card gets here.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It seems like there has been a minor update on some items...I love the stretch kelly shirts and last night in XS they only has 2 colors...this am, every color. Got 3 for $51 including shipping. Cannot beat that considering one shirt is originally $54 regular price right? :/

    ReplyDelete
  36. jcrewlover (or anyone else with info on the cherry blossom tee): thanks for the info. I will be crushed if it's retail only :( Would you say it's TTS? Is it a slub material or sheer at all? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I went ahead and ordered the ringspun cotton rose tee in shell. They were sold out of S and M in the shell color at all 5 of my local J Crews. My PS said that she had gotton half a dozen calls for the rose tee in the shell color. I feel silly paying full price but I really wanted it- I think this is the 1st time in 6 months that I paid full price.

Other than the tee I will probably not be buying any of the spring items until they are discounted.

    ReplyDelete
  38. i think i may use my rewards card on the crocodile cocktail jacket. i hope that one of my b&m's (towson or galleria) will carry it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Given the mini preview with lots of pinks and frills, I wasn't expecting much for me. But, there are a lot of classic pieces and colors I like (greens, yellow, navy, grey, etc.), and I am thrilled to see Hutton modeling for them again. But, I really can't afford to spend on new clothes right now, so I'll just be browsing and creating dream polyvore sets until items go on sale. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am bummed by the new arrivals. I ordered Sunday to take advantage of free shipping. I mostly ordered Crewcuts for my daughter (for March holiday). I saw the post about new arrivals, went to the J. Crew website and saw all the new Crewcuts stuff I want ( I mean my daughter could use). It's not fair! I have to buy more! I am afraid to look at the Women's new arrivals. I need a job! Cute stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  41. appgal-my store-brinton lakes PA, dont know the # off hand-had a stack of the cherry blossom tees yesterday, probably in every size. they open at 10. I would say it's TTS...I bought it and the shell chiffon tee in a large in both, and I am usually a large. The cherry blossom one is a little longer than the chiffon rose tee, which i like.

  42. Does anyone else want to make out with:

    1) crocodile cocktail jacket

    2) Faille Maisy jacket

    3) silk organza pencil skirt

    4) silk garland gladiola print cami

    5) Merino meriam cardigan

I AM DROOLING. When will this stuff go on sale?? I might have to violate my self imposed "never pay retail" rule with these...

Quick question, for you gals that have the travel trench. I am waivering between a 2 and a 4 on the trench. I usually take a 2 in jackets but take a 4 in the ecole...could I do a size 2? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOTS AND LOTS OF UPDATES IN SALE. JUST HAPPENED AT 9:30!! YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haha! Bug pins now back in sale!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Regarding the swimwear, I wear a 4/6 in J.Crew pants, shorts and skirts and take a Medium in swimwear bottoms. I have at least 10 J.Crew bikinis and they are all M on the bottom. I am busty so I need a M or L on top, depending on the style.

Their swimwear is really good quality and fits well. I love the colors and enjoy the ability to mix and match.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon 9:13 - I bought the double-serge in 4 and 6P and they are pretty close in size, although the 6P is a little shorter.

    Beautiful skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Stupid stupid jcrew....somehow my orders were canceled...2 items...the abstract flannel dress and angle print each had 1 left in inventory...so I immediately hop on the phone to call it in and right before the order is going through the phone goes DEAD! Hopefully third times a charm...on hold now. >:(

    ReplyDelete
  48. Whoo hoo....the angler dress, the abstract flannel dress and 3 kelly shirts for $96 including shipping. They somehow stacked my educators discount over the phone....so thats 30 and then another 15 % off....WAY TO GO JCREW! (I take back the stupid comment...)

    ReplyDelete
  49. J. Crew site was wonky for me this morning-- error messages, transferring back to the main website when I'd try to open up an item in a new tab.

With that said, when I could access the website, I love the slub cotton-silk Melody dress.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hmmm....I was hoping that the editor tote would be available in the brown leather shown in the Rewards Card booklet. That was going to be my one splurge for the season with my rewards card and Christmas gift cards. : (

Spring new arrivals are no fun when you're pregnant!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. JaneEsq:

I also LOVE the Crocodile cocktail jacket... I love the color, the shape, the buttons... everything.

Fingers crossed that it goes on sale before too long ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Jane Esq--I agree with the maisey and the miriam, and I'm adding the Jayne dress in tea rose.

I can't wait to see some real-life photos of the maisey. It reminds me of the cooper, without the band at the waist.

    ReplyDelete
  53. its nice to finally see NEW pictures of everything on the site. Even when you click on the sizing charts they have pics of what measures where. pretty cool.

just like everyone else im pretty over the sales stuff. and when you see something that popped up that wasn't there will probably get canceled anyway.

but fyi, the new stuff marked on promo (in red prices) gets deducted when you use EXTRA30. so go crazy ladies! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anony@8:48

I sent an email to JCrew about the same thing on Tuesday. I just got a generic reply. Nothing helpful.

  55. Site is down again...Stay Tuned is up...NO surprise. Crappy JCrew!!!!!!!

  56. also, if anyone is planning on getting the Safari Njema in small in honey brown, i have mine on ebay still.. my price is still cheaper than the one even with 30% off. (and i ship for 3 bucks)

someone please bid on it, it ends in 5 hours!!

    thanks!

  57. JUST got on-line, SO excited to see the new spring arrivals and then "STAY TUNED"!!! Ugh!!! WHY can they NOT get their website issues fixed once and for all?????

    ReplyDelete
  58. All I can say is YAWN. Tired styles, washed-out colors mostly. Dreary. There were a few things I liked:

Cotton interlock promenade dress--But why do they always have to make their knit dresses so short? I don't want it to stop at mid-thigh. I want it to go to my knees.

Metallic rose jacket--I could never afford $700 for this novelty jacket. I like how they stated "we only made a few of these". Smart move! Of course, I'm always surprised a how so many outrageously impractical and expensive Collection items really sell. Not my world, I guess. I must not be a playa'.

Tiered Analisa gown--Too bad I'm not getting married (already am, and didn't have a gown the first time. I wore an old pink wool suit I bought in Japan that I used to wear to work).

Painted checkers bikini--Like it, but my red Gap bikini can make it a couple more years, I think. Plus, I wish J Crew would line their bikini tops a little more thickly (note I didn't say "pad").

Nice to see Lauren Hutton, though. As my French husband would say, "She is full of charm."

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hey, thanks jcrewlover! I called my nearest stores (Asheville, NC) and was able to snag one. I'm sure I'll love it!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I had to get back online to see this crocodile cocktail jacket every!'s talking about....um yes. I've officially jumped on the band wagon...I have to have it!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not to offend but...you couldn't give me most of the new items that's how uninteresting I find them. Blah is right. That crocodile fabric looks el cheapo and the maisey looks like an old lady jacket. I see a lot of ill fitting clothing (read boxy jackets with no waist defining what-so-ever) in a bunch of very dull colors. Very disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This is going to be another pitiful season....

    ReplyDelete
  63. OT -- there is an interesting article about J Crew (specifically the Obama girls' coats) in the Chicago Tribune today. Sorry I do not know how to post link.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am very excited to see new items!

Did anyone get new items on sales at B&M before J.Crew uploads them online? I was very surprised to see Coralie suede heels (#11877) on the web today because I got the similar shoes (Coralie suede flats in light eucalyptus, price $155) for 69.99 + 30% off weeks ago… Were they samples?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I love this quote from Jenna Lyons - finally some answers!

What is J.Crew's brand positioning these days?

"I don't think we're moderate or luxury," Lyons responded. "We're not doing what Gap is doing, but we're not doing what Louis Vuitton is doing. What we are trying to do is offer people Monday-through-Sunday things that are of great quality that people can mix into their wardrobe. We're trying to shed the preppy iconography of our past and associate more with classic pieces, the trench coat, the white shirt, the chino; those things can be worn many ways, but the chino we show maybe with a sequin tank top and heels. We're taking something that's stodgy but making it feel more modern."

  66. Cynthia -
I haven't been to the jcrew store in Yokohama. But my sizing in Banana Republic (stateside) is pretty close to that of J.Crew, and Banana Republic's sizes (and Gap's, surprise surprise) in Tokyo were beyond a US petite. They were smaller and shorter, as you suspected.
I'm 5'5" and fit a J.Crew 4/6, and it is just so no fun!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Does anyone love the Avignon peep toes as much as me? Love the bow detail. Not willing to pay $258 for them though. I'll have to wait for a sale.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Cynthia:
I understand your frustration about sizing very well (as I am petit). But if I were you, I would not even consider paying the airplane ticket to Japan because prices of US brands are almost double in Japan due to import customs, logistics fee, and high tenant fee etc. I remembered J.crew Trastevere paisley dress which was $225 in US was sold for $500 in Japan. Also I found a Coach boots which was $390 in US was almost $900 in Japan last year. It would be much better to buy in US. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I like the new arrivals and it's great to see a fresh website! I like alot of 'basic' items and am after anything in pretty shades of blue. Also, I like the long wrinkled ruffle collar trench and the Wendy skirt in retro-chambray (already purchased this @ b&M). I buy JCrew's shorts every year so I don't mind repeated styles with updated colors. Swimwear looks really good to me too.

    ReplyDelete
  70. O/T: Those who bought the Dream-tie Cardi, are you finding this to be an item you wear often? I'm thinking of buying it but was wondering if it was something you go to alot. I have two dream open cardi's that I could wear everyday, & the dream tie-neck looks to be the same gauge/fabrics.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with Disappointed.

    The crocodile jacket/fabric looks cheap.

Remember how pretty the jackets were last season. The colors are so drab and just adds to the dreary winter and economony feel. Now would be the time for a few brights.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I adore the spring hues and those Tory Burch-sque prints but am relieved that only a few pieces really entice my interest - which could be enough to break the bank, hehe. I probably am getting these before somebody stops me!

    Cashmere dewdrop cardigan
    Ringspun cotton rosette tee
    Hexagon jacquard mini
    Silk tafetta mini

Did anybody see the grenada top anywhere?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Update:
Well, I'm a little late to the party this morning but I FINALLY have website access! My credit card is cringing as I type . . .
Unfortunately, I must have missed the update . . .nothing left for me!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I love the Botanical necklace and the chain-and-pearl bracelet. I hope they go sale soon.
The long trench is boring, very "officer McGruff". I like BR's trenches better.
I don't like all the "tissue" stuff. Seems sort of disposable.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Does anyone know what's the difference between "Open" and "Submitted" when they send you a confirmation e-mail?

  76. Ratsonparade: Thanks -- that is the Tribune article I was referring to. I agree, good quotes from Jenna Lyons.

    ReplyDelete
  77. IRL:
I have dream-tie and dream-tie neck cardigans and absolutely love them! They are surprisingly versatile and go well with almost anything (jeans, pencil skirts, and crop pants). HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Naomi, that is the cutest puppy in the entire universe!

    ReplyDelete
  79. JCA's, don't forget the Extra 30 also applies to resort items just put on sale:)

    ReplyDelete
  80. I love the clothes, but I'm not feeling all the pastels...

    ReplyDelete
  81. And, they have some of the new items already on sale (+ 30%)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Too many washed-out pastels. We pasty-faces need deeper colors...

    ReplyDelete
  83. I like a LOT of new things, but I wish a few of them came in more colours. Some of the sweaters are only in petwer and ivory! I like pale colours, but gimme some options!

ummmm, I don't wanna get flamed or anything but I think I might be the only one who isn't a big Lauren Hutton fan. I think she's bat-shite cray-zah.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Snarker said,

I really like Lauren in the pictures and as a model. I agree though...she is a bit wacko/crazy. Esp. in the interview on The Today show recently. At least she was entertaining to listen to...wackos usually are! She is still beautiful though and a lovely JCrew model...

    ReplyDelete
  85. How old is Lauren Hutton? I have a catalog with her on the cover...and I'm happy they are open to different age groups, etc...but there were ALOT of wrinkles...lol. Umpf...and please no flamers...not everyone in that age group looks like that. Could be as a result of the hard life or too much sun.
Iman is around the same age and her skin doesnt look anything like that. Now that I think about it, my mom is in her 60s and her skin doesnt look anything like that.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed in the new offerings. I'm not feeling the colors the colors at all. I can't wear gray or pastels. Also, I hate the fact that just about everything is transparent to some extent...I don't want to have to wear a cami under my t-shirts (defeats purpose imo). Maybe next time JCrew....

    ReplyDelete
  87. UMMM...don't you know the difference between black skin and white skin and how it ages/wrinkles.....

    ReplyDelete
  88. The overwhelming feeling being presented here is that this stuff is just not WOW and that WILL hurt J Crew..first family or not. There are NO stand out pieces to speak of...not one IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  89. In the words of Oprah "black don't crack" but Hutton has been OVER exposed to the sun. Wear your sunscreen, ladies;)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oprah,

Ain't that the truth! Oprah makes me laugh:)

    ReplyDelete
  91. FYI on swimwear bottoms - I wear a size 10 tall in JC pants and wear a Medium swim bottom.

    Hope that helps someone...

    ReplyDelete
  92. This blog has become so negative, about everything it is getting to be a disease.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Is it me, or did they change the old Sanur dress to the new Covertible Swing Dress" and add $10 to the price? The only difference is a triple layered hem and it's now available in a gorgeous blue.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I’m so not loving the Analisa gown. It's hideous. I can't imagine wearing it for a wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I agree with some of the others that the Crocodile Cocktail Jacket is pretty fantastic.

I tried on the Faille Maisy jacket in the store yesterday in Champagne and didn't love the color, but I think the Dark Charcoal could be really cute IRL.

I love the chiffon detailing on the Merino Miriam Cardigan, as well as the chiffon trim on the Tissue chiffon-trim tee. The fit looks like it could be a little bit strange on this one though...

The Dressy jersey Grecian V-neck long dress could be really fun for summer...

And I can't wait to see a wedding with a bride wearing the Tiered Analisa gown - looks amazing.

One last thing - I really like the fabrics of the Jersey Lomellina bathing suits in person. I haven't bought a new bathing suit from J. Crew in a few years, but I may have to give in to one of those.

  96. I personally love all the pastels and neutrals. I think they are feminine and classic, and I can't wait to wear them :) I also think this is a great relief from the sometimes-neon-bright colors that J.Crew has been offering. Many of the pieces are simple, classic, and feminine ... so pretty!

  97. Don't get me wrong, I love a mature face. LH's face has character - its just that when she speaks, crazy spills forth.

I like the Dove pro-age mature ladies. Smokin'!

  98. I must say that I do not care for the pale washed out colors AT ALL. The fashion world may say they are "in" this spring, but I don't really care because they look awful on me.

I could take or leave about 95% of the new arrivals. I am remotely interested in the library shawl collar cardi but not a fan of the two washed out neutrals being offered. The rolling ruffles tank is absolutely heinous in my opinion - what a holy mess. I am sad to see a lot of the cardis looking cropped again.

JCrew, please bring back the bright colors! Also, quit talking about "classics" that you're not offering - like the white shirt. I cannot find a perfect white button down ANYWHERE, and the JC slim fit button down doesn't count because it's sheer. I just want a menswear-esque button down.

Have any of you ordered the ringspun rosette T? What size are you ordering?

If I am thin, ( 4-6 on top) but w/ broad shoulders, what size should I get? I've never owned any ringspun. I'm 5'10".

    Any advice?

  109. Can't wait to see it (once the tauted "perfect website" works...). I'm so frustrated right now. How can JCrew let customers who actually want to spend money in this economy get away? :-(

  110. Guy here, so I'm basically talking to myself...but I'm digging a lot of the new stuff.

I like how they're experimenting with all these different fabrics for the cardigans. I'm curious as to what the Slub Jersey feels like.

It's not in new arrivals but I noticed the standard cashmere cardy is now available in a yellow colorway. Very cool! I've been trying to find a good yellow sweater to complement all the navy and grey I wear. I tried out the yellow v-neck during the winter but it was too mustardy for my tastes. I'm liking the dove gray pencil stripe cardigan, as well. That will be a nice layering piece under a suit.

Another solid lineup of ties in good colors and simple designs. Some non-traditional spring/summer fabrics with a lot of wools in dark autumnal colors. I'll probably pick up the navy/white day-stripe and navy/pink banker-stripe when they go on sale. I also applaud their continuing commitment to knit ties, love 'em!

  112. Soon To Be PHD: Actually, browsing the site, I just noticed they have the 'converted swing dress' AND the sanur dress still. They use the same picture as last year's Sanur, though, which I think is cheating. :) Check out the "lounge and beach cover-ups" section.

  113. The website is so unacceptable. The site is down several times a day. When it is up, search is almost always faulty. Check out fails. Many items have missing pictures. This is not acceptable for any retailer, let alone a national presence. If I were a J. Crew analyst, I would be DOWNGRADING.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I am thrilled to see the new arrivals online!
    Love:
    -crocodile jacket
-maisey jacket (style is same as cord peplum, should I order same size?)
    -miriam sweater
    -merino mariner jacket
    -Melody dresses
    -Jayne dress

Disappointed with their shirt selection, though.

I was hoping my wallet could take a break, but I don't think that's going to happen! YAY SPRING!

  117. I'm only moderately impressed with the new line up. I like the Saturday pant, tried them on in store yesterday and they're really comfortable, and the cherry blossom shirt that everyone else is talking about too. But some of the new items I question...I saw the tissue rolling-ruffles tank IRL and it was not pretty (and I LOVE ruffles). One of the ruffle rows doesn't go all the way across the front of the tank, it was odd.

But I can't find the tiered ruffle skirt that was in the mini booklet with our rewards card, is that a store only item too (though I didn't see it)? (Or just not out yet?)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anon 1:15
I saw that, and God help us if that is a mini skirt, the sides of the waistband appear to be elastic!!! ahhhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't see anything too special in the new sweater collection. I love the idea of the argyle vest, but those color options....just don't do it for me. One is too pale, the other too bright!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Lynzeroo, did you find the Saturday pant TTS or did you have to size up?

    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  121. I am not loving the shape of the crocodile jacket. It's similar to the Penny jacket, which is far too swingy for me. I workout and eat right to keep a slim figure and small waist. No way I want to wear a tent for a coat.

  122. Lauren Hutton was born in 1943 and Imam was born in 1955. Lauren Hutton is fair skinned and spent a fair amount of time in the sun, on her motorcycles and generally being a wild child. She had a terrible motorcycle accident and recovered as wild as ever. Imam is African and much younger and yes not all wrinkled. I love seeing Lauren in the catalog as she has a classic look but unique and that seems exactly like what JCrew is trying to do.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I was surprised when I went to check out this fab croc jacket several have mentioned. Not loving the pleat at the back. IME these pleats get rumpled when you sit down with the jacket on and end up looking messy and billowy.

That chiffon flower tee is not hot. They are trying to recreate the chiffon rose and it is not even close. The random placement flowers looks odd to me.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anon @ 2:01 -
I normally wear a 2 in JC pants and I found that the Saturday pant just fit, so I sized up. They're a bit loose now, but I think they're more comfortable that way. And as someone mentioned earlier, they are a bit sheer, so you can see the pockets through the pants and with the larger size the pants aren't as close to my thighs and hence the pants appear less sheer. Hope this helps!

I only tried on and bought the Champagne color, so it's pretty light. I imagine the darker colors aren't that way though. They're really soft pants and I like them a lot and think they were a great purchase (even at full price). I'm gonna head back to the mall later this afternoon to return a BR top, so maybe I'll pop into J Crew and try on some others and let you know.

  143. I'm not a fan of the chiffon flower tee either. I saw slastena's photos of it over on her blog, and while she's able to make it work (she can make anything work! so jealous!) I just don't see myself getting it. I don't like the neckline, and yeah, the random placement of the flower "blobs" just isn't doing it for me. It would make me look all misshapen and heavier than I already am - I don't need any additional help in that department thankyouverymuch.

  148. They also reset the price on the small Thompson totes & removed them from FS. The solid leather is sold out anyway. They must not be hurting that bad if they're raising prices & removing an item from FS (that's been there available for months). This is what they did w/some of the merchandise last summer too. Not complaining just surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  149. A look at their stock will tell you they are indeed hurting very much. Not being snarky, IRL, but that's just a trick move with that bag.

  150. This is totally OT, sorry.

I was expecting a JC delivery from UPS today, but instead I found a sticker on my door saying they couldn't leave the package because I had to sign for it. HUH? It was less than a $100 order, so I know it's not because of the worth of the package. Anyone else run into this??? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  151. Lindsay B, that is quite interesting. I have been told that JC and UPS have a signature release policy meaning if you are not home, they would just drop the package at the door without a signature, regardless of the package value. I actually did not like it they left pacakages like that at my door. Perhaps the UPS guy was being nice and did not want your package get stolen?

  161. My sweet BF just sent this to me today after I complained to him that J Crew always does me wrong with their crazy website issues:

Fashionism.org, an active community of fashionistas and online shoppers, today presented JCrew with its first-ever Worst Website Redesign Award.

Fashionism Presents JCrew With First-Ever "Worst Website Redesign Award"
After nine months of unsuccessful redesign work, JCrew has merited Fashionism's Worst Website Redesign Award, for its inability to create a usable Web portal.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Jan 28, 2009 – Fashionism.org, an active community of fashionistas and online shoppers, today presented JCrew (NYSE: JCG) with its first-ever Worst Website Redesign Award, for its recent changes to its website that have significantly decreased usability and in many cases completely impeded online ordering. JCrew's site was written up months ago in major financial publications for its issues, which have yet to be ironed out. For a public company, Fashionism believes this is an embarrassment.

"The site was first redesigned nine months ago and has had problems ever since," reports one Fashionism user. "Every item I click on is out of stock, the items are often in the wrong categories and I've ordered a few things multiple times, only to have them canceled every time." Reports of problems with the JCrew site have been frequent, and spawned literally hundreds of Fashionism threads, with canceled orders, website crashes and developing an intimate famliarity with the "failover" screen that appears when the site has database or server issues and is unreachable. As one member noted, "JCrew puts the 'fail' in 'failover,' for sure." Many members report reaching the site's checkout section, only to have server issues take down the site, making purchases impossible.

The site's most recent failure involves the creation of dynamic paths utilizing Java Server Pages (JSP). This allows site visitors to reach a product via multiple categories, which, as an excellent idea in theory, fails in JCrew's practice. As the links expire when a user session expires, it is no longer possible to bookmark a product page to return to later. Additionally, the design appears to have negatively impacted JCrew's presence in Google; many keyword searches for which JCrew used to place well, such as "argyle sweater", now yield no or few search-engine results that take you to the JCrew site.

JCrew's attitude toward discount codes and emphasis on utilizing final sale techniques also factored into the decision. "These discounts aren't nearly significant enough to merit final sale. When 'up to' 60% off is only 20% off in many cases, it's not worth ordering if you can't even return the item to the store," said one fashionista.

The award, designed by a key admin on the Fashionism team, has been printed on vellum and mailed to JCrew's CEO, Mickey Drexler.

  163. Anyone in NYC? I'm thinking of stopping by Rockefeller Center store or Madison Ave. after work to check out the sale sections. I haven't been in a while, surprisingly - are they depleted or is there any good stuff left, specifically dresses?

    Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. Ok, I think we've adequately concluded that the Rosette T is not flattering on those that are carrying extra weight. I guess you could say that about a lot of clothing. Good to know.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Emily,

So is that really being sent to Mickey or is it a joke? I really hope it is true.

    ReplyDelete
  166. J pearl, in nyc here. I was at the Rockefeller last Friday. The sale section was pretty much "finished". There are a lot of portland and michelle cardigans and quinn camis. Some pants but I did not pay attention what kind. A lot of spring stuff are already in store. Let me know how it goes. I may stop by over the weekend again :)

    ReplyDelete
  167. J Pearl, oh, just saw you mentioned dresses. I did not recall seeing any at all.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Hmm not really loving the new catalog. All the outfits they have Lauren in are very blah. And the other gal featured is soooo skinny.

I do LOVE the Avignon pink peep-toes. Hopefully they go on sale soon!

The only thing I bought from the new collection is the chiffon rose tee. I also got the vintage slim jeans that are on sale. I think the two may look pretty cute together.

I am a little worried about the fit and lumpiness of the flowers on the tee. Well see if it's a keeper when it gets here

    ReplyDelete
  169. jcrewlover mentioned this already, but I just confirmed with my PS regarding the "Cherry Blossom" tee:

"As for the tee, we do not have anything that resembles what you are describing here at the catalog. However, I called one of our best retail stores, and the associate informed me that they do in fact have a light brown tee with white flowers--this is being referred to as the "sundried bleached" tee."

Unless it's to be included in a later roll-out, it sounds like this is a B&M retail store item only.

  171. In case anyone is interested, North Michigan Avenue (Chicago) has a bunch of Lucinda coats in navy, starting at size 2 and going up to size 10 or 12 if I remember correctly. $149.99 plus additional 50% off. I stopped in on my lunch to pick up a new catalog and noticed a rack of these coats. Double-breasted doesn't work for me, but what a great bargain.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I stopped by the Soho store during lunch, and they had a really cute grey (slate) cotton skirt with a back zip that had a sheen to it...I didn't see it on the site. Also just FYI they a bunch of the shimmery python pencil skirts in sizes 2-10 which was funny because I am wearing mine today as well as about 12 pairs of shoes from sizes 7 to 10. I noticed Alessias (non-peep-toe) in the really bright pink (wild rose?) as well as the lighter pink in 7.5 and 9, as well as royal in 9 and cool graphite in 9. They also had cool graphite spectators in 10 and one pair or crackle pewter metallics in size 9...all 50% off sale prices ranging from 69.99 to 79.99. Good luck! (212) 966-2739 is their number.

Who really knows if there is some award that is being sent to Mickey. I think it would be so funny if they actually did sned something.

I guess the Fashionism people sent out a press release- not sure how much press these people are going to get- saying that they were going to send it to him.

As far shopping authorities, I don't think they are anybody important so I doubt Mickey even thinks twice about the whole thing.

  174. My boyfriend said that the rose tee looks like it has "mold" growing all over it and that he thinks the "mold" will take over my small/ petite frame.

Needless to say I wasn't very happy about his comment since I purchased it this morning online.

I personally think the shell/ pink color is more flattering than the neutral but I think someone with a good tan would look cute in both.

  178. REALITY CHECK: Shopaholism: America's Newest Addiction?

Ill-advised shopping has certainly turned up recently in the news, and yet the issue also forms the core of a much more contentious and continuing debate. As spenders spend while the economy plummets, the psychiatric world is trying to decide whether compulsive buying should actually be considered a disease.

At least for now, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders -- which is known as the D.S.M. and is something like the bible of psychological maladies -- does not list the condition as a technical disease. While shopaholism, as the laymen say, has been recognized by the German psychiatric community as a subset of obsessive-compulsive disorder, it still awaits its day in the United States.

According to April L. Benson, author of "I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self," that day is almost certain to arrive.

  183. Some JCAs have mentioned sizing issues with the ringspun rosette tee. Here's my experience. I'm a 0 or 2 in JC jackets/top and XS in JC tees, but for the rosette tee, my PS advised me to size up and do the "hot water treatment". Sounds dubious, no? Anyway I took her advice after she promised she would accept an exchange if the hot water fails or ruins the tee. So I got the S which is a little baggy on me (and makes me look chunky) but the XS is a little too tight in the back and chest (I'm a 34B) and too much stress means the fabric will break down quickly.

The hot water treatment: Soak the tee in near boiling hot water to shrink it, and before it dries completely, put it on and let it dry naturally. Now it's a perfect fit, and fits even better than my candy tees and the rose tee. It looks less chunky too because the rosettes are flattened a little, and the tee has shrunk-fitted itself to my body. For future washes, just wash as usual in cold water. Voila! Works great for me!

    ReplyDelete
  184. Sorry for the long post - just want to share my positive experience with the rosette tee :)

Thanks for the tip! I bought my rose tee in a S & M b/c I don't know what size I will need and I don't want to have the "bra fat" issue.

Do you know if this will work on an already worn ringspun tee? I want to do my Mr. Smith's gray candy tee b/c it has stretched out a little.

  188. I bought the chiffon rosette tee in shell from a b&m, and I think the pink is a true pink. I think some people were characterizing it as a peachy pink, but it's definitely pink IMO. I have other things that are more peach than this; the color on the website is pretty true to what it is IRL. Just thought that might help someone :)

    ReplyDelete
  189. anon 517, thanks! do you mean wear it while it's still wet?

    ReplyDelete
  190. emily: My PS says it works best with brandnew unwashed ringspun tees. I also asked her about the rose tee (had to settle for a larger size because it was sold out) that I had worn twice. She suggested using the dryer instead.

  191. Random question: Has anyone had issues with their silk habotai? One of my elizabeth halters has several little snags in it after one wear, and I didn't do anything that would have caused them. They look like snags from one thread being pulled, which causes an area to bunch up. I can smooth it out with my fingers, but it still leaves a little transparent mark there. I noticed one first, then when I kept looking, found at least 5, all over different areas of the shirt!!! I haven't heard of this before, anyone??? It doesn't seem to be happening to my other elizabeth halter that I've worn twice.

  193. Since a few others had asked:

Sun bleached appliqué tee, Item #15897

Available in weathered stone and in light celery. $45.

Yes, I know I'm obsessed with this silly "cherry blossom" tee...

  194. Yes, wear it while it's still wet - not soaking wet of cos. Wait to make sure it doesn't drip. Don't wring it out with your hands. Dry it between a folded towel, and place on a flat surface. Once it's no longer dripping, put it on. It dries pretty quick after that with body heat inside a heated building. HTH!

  195. Anon @ 5:27: Go into the "lookbook" on the website and scroll through until you see a model with a cropped trench over a grey graphic tee. Click on the item and the crazy orange zebra pops up.
