Sneak Peek Into J.Crew's Feb 2009 Catalog {wahoo!}
A big "thanks!" to Jo, who shared with us this sneak peek into J. Crew's February 2009 catalog. Lauren Hutton looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I am super excited about picking up a copy!
What are your thoughts on the items slated for upcoming Spring 2009? Which items do you love or would leave? ;)

I must have those shoes on the first page that look similar to the Penelope peep toes/mary janes that I was never able to get my hands on this fall!
ReplyDeleteI really like the Merino Cardigan, but the only color that would work on me id the gray, and I just bought a light pewter Merino Rose, so I can't justify the purchase.
ReplyDeleteDoes the shoe desc. say shimmering linen??
ReplyDeleteas always, i LOVE looking at everything in the catalog...even if i don't end up buying much (i do most damage in fall/winter). i have a t-shirt and two cardigans on hold at the store. and it's so good to see lauren hutton back. makes me not feel so bad about turning 40 this year!! :)
ReplyDeletethanks so much again, jo and alexis!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo and Alexis! I also love seeing Lauren Hutton in the catalog! :) I look forward to seeing the rest of it.
ReplyDeleteBtw...is the pale gray sweater she has on with the striped tank trimmed in berries?
Oh I had no idea she would be in the catalog- she looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is the right place to post this and feel free to delete it, but I was wonder if anyone who loves styling could come to my blog and help me style an outfit for some I have to do at work:
http://parkavenuechar.blogspot.com/
Thanks Jo! You work fast!
ReplyDeleteAgree with Em - and I can't WAIT to see what colours those shoes come in!!! Also digging the merino cardi and the gallery bag.
I think the thing I am most excited to see is all the jewelery!!!
I LOVE the Gallery bag, can't wait to see the entire catalogue (Lauren Hutton looks AMAZING).
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this!
The trench looks so so. Only looking at its half picture, I expected it would be better. I prefer long trench coats from Banana Republic. Theirs from both 2007 and 2008 Fall season looked nicer than this.
ReplyDeleteShannon - indeed it says 'the mix of shimmering linnen and neon makes this our go-to shoe' $225
ReplyDeleteI adore the 'Cluster Ring', It's not too expensive at $65.
:)

ReplyDeleteThose shoes are great! I really want to know what other colors they'll come in. Is this catalog coming out soon?
ReplyDeleteI just googled Lauren Hutton and she is 64 years old!! Yahoo! She looks great! I turned 42 today and I'm so happy to see her in the new catalog! I will probably be spending more at JCrew this year because of this, but I think I'll stay away from the 3" shorts! :)
ReplyDeleteOT: jcrewmommy, I hope you are reading this thread...I wanted to say it was great seeing you post again the other day, and I hope you will continue to do so! Have a wonderful evening! :)
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY SallyO!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI really don't like how sheer that cardigan is... why would anyone want a see through cardigan. bleh... I am sick of J.Crew. Their quality is sucking and their sizing is off while their prices have mostly stayed the same and their customer service is lagging... It's, BR, Club Manaco, Searle, Vineyard Vines and pretty much any other store for me.
ReplyDeleteI purchased the ringspun rosette tee in light pink this weekend and LOVE IT! Not that I have anywhere to wear it yet.... I tried on the ruffle trench and liked the tan, but the price was high and the fit was not super.
ReplyDeleteSpring is coming- only 3 more months here in the Midwest:)
I am SO thrilled to see Lauren Hutton on the cover- way to go J Crew! As a 42 year old working mom who spends a ton of my clothing budget @ J Crew I love to see clothes on someone other than 17 year old twinkies!!
Twiga
Lauren Hutton looks great! I like the merino cardi, too, although I don't like that it's so sheer. I will be interested in seeing that cluster ring IRL.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a bottle of Essie nail polish on the first page. Anyone know anything more about it?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday SallyO -
ReplyDeleteAnd you're visint Turkey this year. A banner year for you :)
A fellow-soon-to-be-42er
HeidiG, that's Essie nailpolish in mini shorts, according to the catalogue info.
ReplyDeleteah i want to see the whole thing now! please come soon new catalog!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the sheer cardigans. My "uniform" is a tee under a unique cardgian with a special detail almost every day. I think it's the price point for something so sheer that may turn people away.
ReplyDeletethe catalog is in stores now! i just picked mine up on saturday as i was going to pick up a CrewCuts job app.
ReplyDeleteps-any j.crew/crewcuts workers out there with advice?
anyway, the catalog is omg to die for, i'm loving the spring swimsuits.
yay! Sooo happy to see Lauren Hutton back in the catalog! She was modeling for them back when I first discovered the Crew in the mid-late 90s. And of course she's still beautiful-- such a classic, elegant woman. Bravo!!!
ReplyDeleteMeg - I am an SA. What kind of advice are you looking for? I was hired because I was a good customer and expressed interest in joining the team. Not sure of your location, but most stores have just let most of their Holiday staff go and kept the people who are interested in staying. so it might not be the best time. If you are flexible and do not need tons of hours though, it might work out. Obviously, each location is different. Good luck. They really are a great org to work for. I have never been involved with a retail store that understood the importance of family and outside life. They are just such a wonderful employer. They also have the most generous discount policy, but I will not elaborate on that.
ReplyDeleteHuttons seems to be modelling three pieces/outfits. I guess that's better than the what, two times? they used the older model in the Prague catalogue, one of which showed her looking drawn & unhappy (wearing an ecole jacket, from what I recall).
ReplyDeleteLH looks great; not sure I love the trench she's wearing, though.
employee discount policy - Is it a state secret? I would think it'd be a recruiting tool for hiring good workers. It's not like everyone doesn't know there is one.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jo and Alexis, it is a real treat to get a sneak peek.
ReplyDeleteI like the shorts, they look fun. Wish the trench came in other colors. I have a Burberry trench in a similar color already, although it is tone-on-tone plaid. I was hoping J.Crew might have one in pink this season.
A friend of mine has full patent shoes very similar to those on the first page. She bought them last summer and has been wearing them non-stop, even through the winter. I don't think I can get something so similar unless they come in other colors. Hopefully they are not just offering them in orange.
I am really not into the bags I have seen so far this year: Editor, Gallery. I'm glad I bought several of the Borge Gaveri leather bags last year. I love Gaveri leather and it looks like they are switching to vachetta this season instead. :(
I can't wait for the new arrivals online. I hope there will be alot of new things.
Absolutely. I agree that everyone knows they have an employee discount policy. However, it would be doing my employer a disservice if I advertised the details to everyone. So, I chose to let Meg know it was more generous than most retail operations without divulging any further information. I am sorry that it was seen as being disingenuous.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the catalog. My store has not received it yet, and I can not wait to see it either!
God I love looking at NEW GORGEOUS STUFF and not REFRESHED FS! I must have that roses tee, and the ring!!! All are gorgeous! & as usual, a beautiful catalog. Can't wait to see the rest!!!
ReplyDeleteJcrewmommy, I think things were going fairly ok here until you crawled out from under your bridge and decided to start up something. Really...don't be that 1% that instigates and walks away smiling. Don't be so self serving, it's flat out disgusting. Sorry...gotta call them like I see them!
ReplyDeleteHappy B-day, SallyO! May you day be filled with joy, love, laugh, happiness and many many J Crew presents!:)
ReplyDeleteReally said is the obvious 1%!!
ReplyDeleteI like the rosette ringspun tee also. It was delicate when I tried it on in store. I didn't buy it ....yet. I'm concerned about how it will hold up with washing. I have a few of the ringspun shirts and I feel like I have to handwash them because machine washing makes them even thinner and stretched out I feel like it'll be full of wholes. Any ideas from anyone?
ReplyDeleteActually, J.Crew Mommy, I have to agree with really…said…!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know when new items will be updated online?
ReplyDeleteI had a question for all you SAs out there. I am debating about applying for an SA job in the summer, and was wondering, will they hire an 18 year old? How good is the employee discount? Will they hire for summer only? What is the starting salary?
ReplyDeletethank you!
Anon 11:23 pm...thanks, you get what I'm saying. Things were going rather smoothly and someone has to throw out a comment like that. Then she tries to lecture me like I'm one of her kids. Totally rude!
ReplyDeleteDitto on the associate discount. suffice it to say, though many of the associates at my store (where i am also an associate) find the pay to be not so hot, they stick around for a good reason! :)
ReplyDeleteI was told that 50% is the employees discount.
ReplyDeleteMH & MEG - You need so show your passion for J.Crew/Crewcuts at the Store in your area. The HR mngr will definitely look for that. They will hire at 18 -not younger. I'd apply asap and build a relationship so when there is an opening.. voila!
ReplyDeleteTo my knowledge employees are not allowed to answer questions about pay and discounts.
Thanks jcrewmommy! I'm glad to see that you're still following the blog, and I hope all has been going well for you! :) Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteHorizontal stripes on a tank top...are they serious. The ruffle tank is bad enough with adding width and volume. Wow...really poor fashion on those two items.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks really nice! Can't wait to get the new catalog.
ReplyDeleteNice items so far. Thanks for scanning & posting the sneak-peek!
ReplyDeleteFFM, thanks for the new photos and update. I was wondering about the rose tee when you said you took a medium as I know you usually take the smaller sizes. I was glad to hear you could really take a small. Now I know I don't need to size up.
ReplyDeleteThe new, longer trench looks rather blah in the photo. Is it supposed to somewhat rumpled? Even the belt looks crunched.
TIA
So nice to see Lauren Hutton again! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like the orange spectators.
The Trench is nothing special IRL, just another trench.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the roses tee is to die for.
Just curious - has anyone actually gotten their catalog in the mail? Or is it only in stores so far?
ReplyDeleteI really liked the rosette chiffon tee, but when I saw it in the store, it seemed really sheer. I guess you could wear a tank under it for spring/summer. I was worried the rosettes would make me look puffy. I didn't try it on because I had layers of clothing on and wasn't in the mood to de-layer.
ReplyDeleteAny JCA bloggers have photos wearing the rosette tee?
I need/want a trench so I would like to give this one a closer look. I hope they get it in the stores so I can see it and try it on and get a better idea of whether or not I would like to purchase it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo for scanning and Alexis for posting.
The trench is selling out on-line, looks like J Crew adjusted their inventory, which was not supposed to happen until later on this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! It is so exciting to see Lauren Hutton looking radiant in J. Crew. I really like the trench, would have to try it on at my B&M. I also like the striped tanks.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when they're going to be updating the new arrivals online? And when we can expect to be able to order what's in this catalog? :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnyone got the lattice print dress in orange? Any comments re. the fit? It is featured on the website slideshow slide 5.
ReplyDeleteCan someone scan the whole cataloq and send to Alexis so it can be posted?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have not seen anything yet that I am interested in purchasing. I already have a trench coat and don't need another, and I don't need any more tissue tees or tissue thin sweaters.
ReplyDelete:o(
Short review but not sure where exactly to post but here goes:
ReplyDelete- Twisted Cotton Trench/12150/Ivory/pg 20 of catalog:
I usually wear a size 4 but sized up to a 10!! Yes, the armholes are t-i-n-y. I am not exaggerating. Others in the store commented on it & tried it on & agreed they were cut strangely small! You can always steam the jacket if you don't want the wrinkles but they really don't look so bad when the jacet is on. This is really cute for spring & will snatch one up when it goes on sale.
- Travel Trench/99772/Navy:
This is not on sale at the store but b&m honored web price & 30% off making it FS. Also, they were sold out of this in Navy except for some size 0's, a size 6 & a size 4. Sized up from 4 to a size 6. LOVE IT! Paid more for this than my winter Lillie & Harriet but it's worth it...a classic item.
- Retro Chambray Skirt/13971/Retro Chambray (color name) pg 22 of catalog:
LOVE it! I wear size 6 in JCrew chinos, shorts, cords, 29 in matchstick jeans. I fit in a size 4 and a size 6 in this skirt, and purchased the size 4. Sits on hips, just below waist. Size determines how far down hips the skirt sits. Size 4 fit better on my hips & was less bulk in the rest of the skirt. The length hits at top of my knee (I'm 5'7"). The back of the skirt is straight - no pleats. There are two non-functional button-tabs on front of skirt. I'm mentioning this because you may not be able to wear a tee or fitted top out over the waist. I LOVED this & bought it full price. It is so versatile; wear it now w/sweater, wool tights & boots and in the summer. Maybe all year round but it is NOT lined so I think it would look cute with thick tights & boots if you were to wear it in colder months.
-V-neck short-sleeve cardigan/Jasmine/10510: Pretty, pretty, pretty. I purchased in XS but could've went to size S for looser fit. (Normally wear size 4/small in tops.) Shannon has commented on her blog how pretty Jasmine (pink) color is and she is right. This sweater is $49.99 + an add'l 30% off. Great deal & can't wait to wear it in the spring.
The cherry blossom t's and other t's are super-cute too. I buy all the t's too but try to wait for at least one price reduction.
Sales Rep was wearing the Meringue-sleeve Top in Tea Rose, pg 51 of catalog, and it is really pretty on. I saw it on another blog in the light pewter & the color & photo do not do it justice.
I do like the new catalog alot. I am definitely more of a summer clothes person than a winter dresser. Cute bathing suits, as usual. Love the cute soft shorts on page 80. They're 5" with cute ruffle along waist band.
Okay, not I have to get on my treadmill (after I have just finished a 4x4 slice of ice cream cake!). :)
^Retro Chambray Skirt falls in the skirts named "Wendy" skirts.

ReplyDeleteRe: lattice print dress in orange...
I ordered this and the pic on the website is true-to-life (sometimes the website colors are very different IRL). The bottom fit like the abstract rose dress, if that helps you. I am between a 10 and a 12, and will keep the 10 in this one (I went for 12 in dbl serge and other pencil skirts). As for the top, I am small-chested, so I have to take everything in, so I'm not much help there. I always size for my hips and tailor the top :) Let me know if you have any other questions!
I stopped by my local B&M today, and am so impressed with the new items. I can't wait until they're posted online so I can stalk them. Unfortunately, all my favorite new items can't be worn for another couple months at least. We're expecting snow in D.C. tomorrow, so I really shouldn't be thinking about cotton summer dresses!
ReplyDeleteI went to my store too today but was totally disappointed. The only things I saw that I really liked was the leather tote (like butter) and some 3" elephant critter shorts.
ReplyDeleteI did however see lots of pretty things at anthropologie. I may be taking a jc vacation
I highly recommend utilizing a Personal Shopper. That way, you can email them what you want from the catalog as soon as you have an item number or description, and receive items quickly without paying for shipping. They are wonderful! Just thought I'd mention it since when catalogs come out, I know I'm always anxious to place an order and can't find the items in my local B&M or online.
ReplyDeletesweetmint,
ReplyDeleteWhat personal shopper do you use? store? online? My PS always charges me for shipping.
cool i cant wait to get the next issue of jcrew. Why is lauren hutton on half of the pages. Is jcrew going to start selling lauren hutton's makeup?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! Does Lauren Hutton have her own makeup line or something? If so where can I purchase it from?
ReplyDeleteLauren Hutton does indeed have her own makeup line called Lauren Hutton The Good Stuff which she created and wears herself. If you really want it, you can buy it from
ReplyDeletehttp://www.laurenhutton.com
I can't see it. Were the images pulled?
ReplyDeleteNevermind. I saw them. I love the handbag, the shoes, the cluster pearl necklace and the gray cardigan w/the darker gray detail.
ReplyDelete
