Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to take advantage of what's left in the post holiday sales, the additional 20%-50% off sales, or to see some new Spring/ Resort arrivals in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic! Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Were there any discussions today on how the Sample Sale in New York has been going? I'm still debating on whether or not to go this weekend and wanted to know how it was going. Have any of the prices dropped? Are there better items? Is there still plenty of stock two days in? TIA! :)

  2. I reviewed some spring arrivals. Sale section was *totally* depleted, unless you're looking for Kya camis and merino portland/michelle cardis.

  3. I'm going to the B&M today to look through the leftovers in the sale section.

  4. Oh my goodness, I never knew this blog existed before stumbling across it.

    I absolutely ADORE j.crew.
I would buy out the entire store's selection in my size if I could!

I've been slowly picking up items over the winter at my local j.crew (Tampa FL) they still have cords and quite a few button ups left as well as a depleted stock of tank tops in L

  5. Saw and tried on the mint greenish Annie camisole. Really wanted to like it but no go! I put it on and thought MERMAID. Definitely not a look I will be sporting.

  6. Good Morning Alexis! I made a trip to my local J.Crew last evening to see the Spring Arrivals and was able to take pictures of some of the new items. I posted them on my blog:

    Fabulous Florida Mommy .

The sale section was even more depleted than the last time I was there, but was still 30% off and Final. The new Men's Spring arrivals will be in next week, as well as the new jewelry. The purchasing manager was there still arranging the new merchandise and said the second part of the rollout will happen next month.

Have a WONDERFUL day everyone! :)

  7. Off topic, but wondered if anyone had insight.

None of my JCREW bookmarks work this morning. I had a folder of things I am stalking - lol.

Did they change something permenant on their site?

  8. Just stumbled on these pics of Katherine Heigl in J. Crew! -

  9. Visited my local B&M store last night (Towson, MD). They had some cute new spring items, but nothing truly inspired me! I did make a couple of purchases, including an orange and cream print cotton skirt, a slub cotton long sleeve tee with double buttons in light grey and 2 pair of flip flops. The sale area was way picked over- not worth the time to look, IMO.

    - As a side note, the SA's there are hit or miss- some are really nice, other are standoffish. One of the ones who fall into the latter category was there last night and was being OVERLY nice. I thought that was interesting, even my friend made a comment about it. Wonder if it was a result of the slowed spending? Just a thought...

  10. Thanks Kate! It looks as if she may be in head to toe J.Crew. That necklace was in the jewelry case at my B&M last evening. I think it was around $178.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Frustrated,
The same thing has been happening to me the last few days. If you have the item numbers, you can search for them that way. Otherwise, it sort of hit and miss. I'm not sure why.

    Kate,
Thanks for the Katherine Heigl photos. I SO wanted to like the snow leopard tartine on me when I got it, but alas the pattern was too much for my taste.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks for the link Kate. If you click on the Comments for the Heigl photo's, where there are more photo's, you can see she isn't wearing JCrew jeans; there's an embellishment on the back left pocket. I wouldn't think a stylist would get everything at one store, even JCrew, especially on an actress' higher end budget. Read some of the comments! People there commented about JCrew's vanity sizing, & said Heigl looks like she got the clothes from her grandma's closet.

Also, I thought Eva L. looked really cute until I scrolled down to those Uggs.

  13. JBird: I go to Towson too. Who was being overly nice? Older or younger sales rep.? There is a young, petite girl w/dark eyes & dark hair who is VERY nice. Also, the ultra-thin blonde southern bell is super nice too. I found the older woman offish & hardly cracks a smile. SORRY o/t!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks IRL! I was curious to know if her matchsticks were J.Crew. :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. IRL,

I have to say I am a fan of Uggs, but not the big puffy ones. They have SO many new styles now that look like fashion boots but keep your feet toasty. I live in them over the winter and noone ever knows they are Uggs.

They also came out with a flat "antoinette" which I LOVE. They have sherling inside, but you can't see it when you wear them. They look like suede flats when you were them. They feel like you are wearing slippers.

  16. Totally OT:
Professor, if you're reading (I hope you aren't gone forever! Come back!), I just received "Why We Buy/Science of Shopping" yesterday and I LOVE it. I'm traveling last night/this morning, so I've gotten about halfway through it. Thank you so much; it is a VERY interesting read. I'm excited to take some of the concepts/ideas back to my boss. I think I may even order him a copy :)

    Thanks again!!

  20. Frustrated: same thing started happening to me yesterday with bookmarks. Now they don't work.

So yesterday I got a confirmation for an order with a bracelet that I've been DYING to find, and today I go the dreaded "News about your J Crew Order" email... it's gone :(

If anyone sees the pave hinged bangle (in dark slate, but it's just the half pave bangle with no other embellishments), please, please hold it for/email me!

  21. Would love some feedback on the sample sale. Wanted to head out there today but it all depends on JCAs feedback. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  22. Towson too:

Oh, I love the blonde SA with the Southern Accent. I'm horrible with names, so I can't remember it! She's super sweet.

I know the name of the older woman you are referring to, but I don't think I should post it- starts with a "J". Not to be catty- she tends to wear cute things that don't fit her (just my observation). She's usually unfriendly, but she was different last night- except that she kept misprouncing my and my friend's names after she asked for them twice (they're not usual names). Most of the younger SA's are really nice. There's one gentleman that works there, in his 30's, that makes snarky comments about my always being in the store- it makes me self concious. I mentioned him to an SA in the Columbia store (they're way friendlier there) and she knew exactly who I was talking about!

I wonder if we've run into one another at Towson?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am trying to find the Lily turtleneck sweater - I had ordered it and everything was fine, until I got the dreaded email yesterday. If anyone finds one...or doesn't like theirs, I'm looking for a large. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I went to my local B&M last night (Dadeland Mall in Miami) and wasn't overly excited with the new spring arrivals. The Keegan jacket was there, but I agree with some of the earlier posts - way too boxy. It completely swallowed me up, which was disappointing because the fabric was super soft.
On the plus side, there was a decent selection of swimsuits and additional 30% off clearance. Suiting is still 40% off.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jbird: I've seen your avatar/photo before & did not recognize you. I heard the JC at Columbia is alot bigger than Towson, true? I think we're both talking about the same older sales person. :) Have a nice day!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you FFM for posting those photos! I don't live near a B&M so I really appreciate seeing 'real' photos of new arrivals. I can't wait for the catalogue to come out. I remember when catalogues used to arrive before the month started, ie we should have the Feb. catalogue by now. :-)

  28. Yes, the Columbia store is a lot larger than the Towson store. I've never had an unfriendly SA there- the store director is especially great at Columbia!

If you're inclined to take a road trip, the King of Prussia store in KOP, PA is a fabulous B&M. It's an hour trip for me, but worth the drive.

(I took my picture down so I don't get recognized by the SA's... :-) )

    ReplyDelete
  29. I saw some of the new spring stuff at my local B&M--not really excited about them. FFM had pics of the cutest stuff, but it's probably nothing I would buy. My store is small so we never get much in. They had the short sleeve cardis on sale and I would have gotten one but they were totally out of my size in every color! Also, in the sale section, they had a guava colored silk blouse on sale, but it had no tag in it PLUS it had a big grease stain on the neck! EEEWWW!!! They were trying to sell that?!?!

  30. Got an update from clothingline regarding the sample sale--- prices slashed and more inventory coming in..... While I was very disappointed on Tuesday-- I know that there were some of you going to venture out this weekend..... let us know if it was better than early in the week..... For me, if I wanted styles from 05, 06, 07 and 08--- I would have just searched on eBay...... Have a good one....

    ReplyDelete
  31. FFM - wow, those tees look super thin. Are they trying to make a featherweight ringspun now?

    ReplyDelete
  32. BethL-

Are you referring to the short sleeve cardis with the small pockets on the front? If so, the Towson, MD store had many of them last night- colors were navy, natural, pink, and yellow. All sizes were available. They were 49.99 with an extra 30% off. You might try calling them if you want them. (I know they're showing as FP online)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Katherine Heigl's bag is similar to ones from Club Monaco's spring line. Lots of snakeskin, real or prints anyway. They usually have some really nice bags that aren't oversized and prices are reasonable too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I too was shocked at how thin the tees are and for close to $50 each. I would never buy one unless it was $10 or so. I like my garments to last past 1 or 2 wearings thank you very much.

Thanks for the pictures though:) Now I know WHAT NOT to buy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. has anyone else noticed that J.Crew has changed their jean sizes? I normally wear a 26 in jeans--and they fit perfectly. However, i since they added a size 25, it seems as if 26 has been made larger! it's a little frustrating if you're shopping online...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I found a cotton s/s tee with cute ruffle details in charcoal gray for $9.99 and a silky jersey cami in ivory for $9.99...not sure what else I need. I'm holding out for Spring items (although I guess those two items can work for Spring, as well as under cardis for now).

    ReplyDelete
  37. I went last night, not impressed. I reviewed a few things I liked on my blog, but for the most part I'll pass.

  38. My favorite accessory on Katherine H. is that cigarette--NOT! WTF is she thinking--that's disgusting. Nice role model.
She looks bad in that J Crew IMO.

  39. Hi all,

Lots of new things in FS! No more FS for me though!

I got 3 things in the mail yesterday in case people are considering:

    - bird's nest ring: lovely and delicate, but the gold is pretty shiny with an orangey tint. But SUPER cute. The kind of thing people will compliment I think.

    - lulu flats in gold. Adorable but not 100% as pictures. In the photos the texture looks like the metallic crackle shoes, but in real life it is the 'bumpy' texture of the high heeled, peep-toe version.

    - glass bead ribbon necklace in the brown. To die for!! I have the chartreuse as well and if you are on the fence, go brown! It is gorgeous in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  40. On the Katherine Heigl photo...awesome to see her in J.Crew (minus the cigarette). That color ruffle blouse looks great on her especially with her hair and skin tone. However that site the photo was on...are you kidding? The Skinny Site? Focusing on celebrities weight, "body gossip"...how silly and demeaning. I hope no Aficionada's make that site a regular stop!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Is the site down for anyone else?? I haven't been able to get on in the past 2 days. I keep getting this page:

Is this a sign I shouldn't be shopping?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have to say the
    Ringspun Scoopneck Tee item 10258
is a very flattering tee, & for $9.99 I bought five of them. It's a thin tee but works well under a lot of round-necked cardi's. The scoop is perfect depth; not too low & you can bend over in it without too much gaping. Plus it works year round layered or on its own. If they're out of your size you could probably size up one size. Love them!

  49. Hi everyone,

Has anyone seen the long glenbrae high heel boots in store? I need the store price so I can try to match it online.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i *think* that the bethesda store carried shoes. i believe there was a wall with several different styles, but i haven't been there since december and i don't exactly remember.

towson never has shoes beside those jelly ballet flats that have been sitting in the sale section for months. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Final sale is a game! You have to hunt for things you already like. I've been trying to get a Harlow in Ivory, size 0 for a month or more . . . got one today and it evaporated from my shopping bag while I dawdled for 15 minutes! Well, I laughed at myself anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I mentioned in another post yesterday that the SAFARI NJEMA and BON VOYAGE tees are all on sale in the store (Freehold NJ) for $29.99, plus an additional 30% off. That's about $21! Super steal - they are $39.50 on the website!

    ReplyDelete
  53. PS: The spring tees are beautiful! But I am going to wait until they go on sale :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the spring stuff, especially the tissue camp shirt and the lattice pencil skirt. The B&M in Walnut Creek, CA had a few items that aren't on the web site (e.g., a pretty pink top in cotton lawn and a jersey knit dress that is already on sale). But now I'm back home in Ohio where it won't get warm enough to wear any of this stuff until April or May (and I can't afford to go to a resort), so I can safely wait for it to go on sale.

Speaking of which, the sale stuff at the B&M was totally picked over and hardly worth the trip unless you get lucky (the one dupioni silk skirt was in my size, so I snagged it for $17.50).

    ReplyDelete
  55. Happy Friday, Aficionadas! I was finally able to order the Golden Roses Pencil skirt in a size 2 (about 5 minutes ago), after stalking the website for weeks! Also picked up the favorite fit scoopneck tee in light spearmint, S.
Slastena - I ordered the leopard sequin cardigan last night, after reading your fabulous review on your blog. I can't wait to get it! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Julie, Palo Alto center has glenbraes in sz 11, should be able to give you the price.

  57. If you haven't tried/picked up the Sanur dress yet, you must be out of your mind! It's GORGEOUS - so flattering, and can be worn three ways! And all three ways are beautiful. I got the black and need the other colors now!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tried the Keegan jacket and it doesn;t work for me. I thought it'd be like my refined canvas Fiona but whoa, the Keegan is too boxy, and the ruffles look strange - like putting a bow on a bodybuilder. Thank God I got my refined canvas Fiona from Ebay in pale almond!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tried the spring tees and their quality sucks. Love my candy tees much much more.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Consider sizing down in the Sanur unless you are large on top - otherwise it sort of just falls down. :)

  63. No :( Just came back from the store for a return of a full price item but had a very bad experience.

I paid $200 for a cashmere cardigan that did not come with the original tag, with loose buttons and was exceptionally wrinkly. My impression was it may be a worn item so I wanted to return it (my size is sold out so could not exchange it, sigh). I asked if it is possible to get the $15 shipping fee back. The associate first refused and I said ok. But she went on inspecting the cardigan insisting it was brand new and she would have no problem with that (this is beyond the point as she is not the user). She then added rudely, "if you do not want to pay the shipping, you should have ordered it in the store". I was offended and very embarassed as there are other customers and store associates around! The store manager actually stared at me too.

Well, anyway, finally she returned the shipping I asked once but never insisted on.

I was honest and said she was rude. Then she went on saying how she is sure the cardigan is new, etc.

I do not think I am unreasonable to feel offended. Why should I settle for a less than perfect cardigan if I paid $200 for it?

    Thanks for listening, hehe!

  64. Anon 12:22 - that SUCKS :( I'm so sorry that happening to you! YUCK!

  65. Anon @ 12:22, what store was this in?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anon 12:26, thanks. Now I feel much better that I got it out! I guess I also do not see what she achieved by making the comment and insist on the cardigan quality. If it was not possible to return the shipping, just say no (which she did and I said ok) and that should have been the end of the it...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Pudding, thanks for sharing that link. So funny to see those pants. I had high-waisted pants in the 80's but these are really ridiculously high. LMAO

  69. 12:22-- She didn't believe you. She probably believed you to have removed the tags, worn the sweater, etc...... and are now trying to scam by getting all your money back. She can't come out and say that directly, of course, or she would be written up, so she's doing a classic rendition of sales clerk passive aggressive shtick. She's probably burned out after the holidays, and the polite facade that all sales clerks should have is almost completely worn away. She needs a vacation or more likely, a job where she doesn't have to work with the general public. I worked retail for awhile, and I watched certain coworkers just lose it. She's banking on you not complaining as she never went full out rude.....just made you uncomfortable.

  71. With regards to the question about when the website will be updated with new arrivals - I spoke to my personal shopper the other day (he works from the Lynchburg distribution center) and he said that the website will be updated toward the end of next week. Cannot wait!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anon 12:38, too bad for her! I have just filed a complaint. I received the package yesterday afternoon and should have returned it right away! I in fact also thought whoever got the cardigan before ironed flat the fabric as it feels kind of rough. I ordered other cashmere cardigans before and they were all very soft to touch. Though I admit I am a picky customer - the irony is this is why I shop at JC for the quality in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anon @ 1222

Not only would I have asked for the store manager, but also for the district manager's name. If I were you, I'd be calling corporate to lodge a complaint.

In this economy, stores can no longer afford to have rude sales associates and personnel.

Given all of the problems folks have had with online orders and merchandise, your situation with the sweater should not have come as a surprise to the clerk.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I returned my high heel flares. The fit is terrible. 26 is small and 27 fits, but the waist is too loose. Prefer the indigo but the sizing doesn't work. The material of light wash is so rough.

    ReplyDelete
  75. does anyone know how the tall size coats differ from the regular? The color I want is only available in the tall section. Should I size down? Would it just be the sleeves are longer as well as the coat length?

    I would appreciate some advice

    thanks guys!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I've received some really shoddy items over the past 2 weeks. I'm still shocked. Granted these are highly sought after pieces that are low in inventory, I expect some are returned items. But I can't accept missing buttons and tears at the crotch, not to mention a pair of lulus that are marked - I didn't buy it on ebay!

    ReplyDelete
  77. jbird, you are right, I should have got it resolved there. I filed the complaint via the phone and asked for a response. I told the rude associate I have also received an item with stains. Of course she said, "well, I did not see it" and of course she did not believe me. I would not think she is naive enough to have thought JC inspects every single item before they goes out and there is 0% chance to receive an imperfect item. It was just bad.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anon 12:22 I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I'm an SA and have been told that Mickey reads all of the comments (good and bad) that come in from customers so I strongly urge you to describe your experience. It's funny because before I started working there, there was an SA who was always rude to me--and after I started working, she was still rude. I don't understand how this behavior goes unnoticed but it's definitely a poor way to treat a customer.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Went to KOP last night to see the rollout of the new spring stuff. They are still working on it, but a lot of spring items were on the floor.

They have a very pretty large flower patterned Annie cami in Bright Sun with a light pewter background. Annie camis are pretty, but I don't like the way they fit: small in the shoulders and bust and very A-line. Again with the trapeze look.

I saw the necklace that Katherine Heigel had on in the case. Very pretty champagne/blush color.

Alas, I didn't buy anything, but am thinking about some things and will go back when they get everything on the floor.

JBird, I love that skirt that you bought. Someday we should meet up at KOP where no one knows you or me and buy the store out.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Oh, the CS rep I called even had the audacity to suggest that since it's final sale, that's why the lulus were marked to prevent returns. I've been buying FS shoes and none have ever arrived marked. I had to argue with her and she finally agreed to check and came back chastised that yes, final sale shoes shouldn't be marked.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 12:43- You did the right thing. When sales people start letting their aggressions show like that it's time for a wake up call. In a major metro area like that, I'm sure they get scammers every day, and that IS frustrating, but they have to remind themselves that it's not THEIR money, and they can't let those feelings show on the surface. --12:38

  84. Anon 1250, really? I will file a compliment on another associate. She was very helpful when I placed an order via the red phone.

Anon 1253, exactly. It is not their money. If it was not my money or it was a gift, I would have accepted it too like she said she would have no problem with the flaws I pointed out.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yep, those pants are one-of-a-kind. Sadly, probably not!

I've been poking around ebay a little and am continually amazed and irritated by the prices people want for their dumb crud. Much of what I saw was cheaper online. Its so annoying!! Ebay used to be haven for the thrifty but now its just a money grub!

  94. J.Crew in Georgetown (DC) is pretty picked over. They did have a bunch of the decade dot jackets (49.99), merino Michelle cardigans (69.99), and the short sleeved cardigans (49.99). Even with the 30% off I thought the cardigans were still pricey. They have a ton, so I'm guessing that they'll lower the prices pretty soon. Also there were quite a few suede flats, and the Ingrid fabric peep toes in all solid colors marked 99.99.

I didn't try on any of the new merchandise, but it all looks lovely! I'm so excited for flowers and ruffles :)

  96. Loving JCrew - I have seen swimwear in California stores and also in the SoHo store in NYC.

J.Crew swimwear is great, really good quality and fits well. That doesn't help much when you want to order online, but it is good stuff.

  97. JCREW SAMPLE SALE INFO

I went on Tuesday and I decide to go back Today (Friday). The prices are still high. In fact, light cheapo dresses they were charging less on Tuesday just $25, they decided to "re-categorize" so that they fall into the dress category and they are now charging $60. The way they charge you is ridiculous. Nothing is reduced except for T shirts. When I told them the sign says tanks and shirts, they say no to everything because they say it doesn't fall into that category. Basically, it's false advertising. Because nothing appears to fall into that cheaper category!!! Prices are the same or I 'd say even higher after this re-categorization. And there are NO ACCESSORIES ANYMORE!
NONE TODAY. NONE TOMORROW they say.

this sample sale is just plain aggravating.

  98. Thanks Anon 1:29!

I guess it doesn't make sense to offer swimwear in Chicago stores in the middle of winter:(

I just like to try things on before I buy; especially bikinis.

  99. Thank you soooo much v girl. I was going to stop by on my home today but I'm not going to even bother. It was enough of a headache on Tuesday (especially after standing in the freezing cold for an hour) to not find anything. I probably would have left empty-handed again today. Thanks again!

  100. also, anyone intersted in the starfish bikini in a size large? it's sold out and i am returning it so if anyone is interested let me know! i didn't even try it on (i KNOW it's too small for me lol). i think i paid $73 so that price plus shipping and it's yours!

I bought the charcoal Astrid in a 14 from a fellow JCA. Hopefully, it will be arriving today or tomorrow. I'm a little nervous that it might be too big- did you find that yours was TTS or cut small/large?

I'd be interested in the starfish bathing suit!!! Could you forward a picture to me? redhed_01 at hotmail dot com

  104. jbird/Stacy - about the Bethesda B&M - they do carry shoes, but not a ton of them. I was there yesterday, and there were even some boots and shoes (not much though) in the FS section.

FS still 30% off - I got a tissue hoodie for 13.99 (so cozy and it's 39.99 on the website!), and a beaded short tunic for 13.99 (website has at 49.50!!). I love those prices. And then, of course, I got suckered in to the library shawl collar cardigan at FP. Haven't seen pics on the website - but very cute, long cardi, casual, cotton/cashmere blend, workable acrosse most/all seasons.

I passed on the Bon Voyage tees, but think I may have to go back.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just got back from the Austin Barton Creek B&M - Spring stuff is everywhere! There is a pair of the patterned Ingrid heels in the cow pattern (really cute) in the sale section for 99.99 plus 30% off in a size 7 1/2 if anyone is interested.

I got the ruffley tank from the new spring collection in a light grey. It is so so cute on, but as FFM and others have pointed out it does run large.

  106. Anon 1:51. I'm 5"10, and often vacillate between Talls and Regs. IME the arms are 1-2" longer, the body is 2" longer at least , and sometimes (not always) there seems to be extra room in the upper back and shoulders. I've also found that although the Talls may fit me better, the Regs look cuter. I think if you are 5'9 in socks or taller, it's best to try your regular size, your Tall size, AND the next size down in Tall. With FS, that's a toughie, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anon 12:43 - I totally did the same thing. I had bought my husband a tie at store in New York, and when he found out the price, he said it wasn't worth it (in the end, he was right, it was $60 dollars CHEAPER online!). So a few hours later, I returned it, when the SA (who sold it to me) turns to another coworker and says, "Can we deny a return on the basis of stupidity?" I was taken aback and became really upset. So I emailed J.Crew, and they asked for the store info, etc. The next day, I received a very apologetic email from the store's manager, saying the employee was reprimanded and that is not how they normally treat their customers. I know he was probably stressed, but I'd never treat a customer that way (and I never have, even when I'm stressed!). You did the right thing!

  110. I have purchase two items from J Crew recently that arrived damaged and obviously worn. I purchased a Maggie in ivory that had a big smear of foundation on the collar (definely not my color!) and the sleeves rolled up. I also received a sweater that reeked of cigarette smoke and was snagged.

I understand that we sometimes get returned items, but both of the above its were ridiculous.

I called immediately after opening the boxes since both were final sale items and asked nicely to be allowed to return them.

Both times the SAs noted that I would get my shipping back without my asking. I had no issues at my local B&M when I took them for the returns.

It is disappointing that J Crew would not do a better job of inspecting returns before reshipping them. The Maggie was still $179 and the sweater was $99so I do not think I had unrealistic expectations in wanting clothing that did not need dry cleaning prior to wearing.

That was probably the most exciting thing about my visit. I wasn't into the new spring items.

    ReplyDelete
  114. kitsmommy,

I too had a corduroy jacket that came to me smelling of cigarette smoke last fall.

JCrew does a horrible job of not even inspecting return items before trying to resell them.

    SHAME on them!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Kitsmommy, good that you mentioned calling CS. I found it much more effective and efficient to call CS in advance before returning a defective item to the store. I did that with the stained cashmere tank I received last week. When the store associate scanned the item, there were already notes in their system so there was no confusion. I did not have the time to call in advance last night and assumed it should be fine returning to the store.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I also noticed the store associate did not take my return good forms, the bottom part where you can fill in return reasons. The warehouse will have no way to know that is a stained item and may re-sell it like a no flaws perfect piece.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Shame on people returning things they have worn. JC should inspect items and if worn, send them right back to the people who returned them, FS, no returns, no excuses.

  122. Anon @ 2:11

I just got back from the store at Easton Town Center in Columbus and they had a TON of spring stuff out. I saw one of the printed sweaters. I didn't take a picture because I didn't think the colors would show up on my phone. It was similar to some of the prints in the past, but VERY washed out color. It was blush and green, but it looked as if it had been faded by washing. I suppose it would look alright with some of the pastel colors in the spring line, but I was REALLY disappointed. I normally LOVE the spring prints.

  123. v girl: Thanks for the update on the sample sale. I was mad at first for going the first day because the prices were so high ... turns out it wouldn't have mattered anyway!

  125. That sucks to hear about Anon's bad experience at the store. I guess it depends on who you get... the luck of the draw. Today I was upset to see my Satin Marie clutch on sale on the website for $25, when I paid almost $60 for it not too long ago. I called CS and the store and they said I couldn't get a "price adjustment" on the item but the lovely manager allowed me to return it for the price I purchased it for (minus shipping) and rebuy it for the website's sale price and then ADDED on the extra 30% off of sale! So I wound up repurchasing it for $18 and change! Amazing. You can't beat that. J.Crew has me hooked with how helpful their employees are. Lovesit.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Aww, those bad experiences are, well, bad! No employee should treat a customer that way, especially if the customer is being polite. Sure, he or she might have been having a bad day, but that is no excuse to insult a customer who was not trying to instigate anything!

That being said, most of my experience with J.Crew sales associates have been positive! I've only had one or two times where I had to deal with a prissy SA. Both were in Houston, Texas, and both rolled their eyes way too much whenever I was trying to return things or get a dressing room. But other than them, all the others have been so wonderful and helpful, even the phone ones. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  127. K - thanks for mentioning the sale on the SAFARI NJEMA and BON VOYAGE tees. I forgot to mention it in my earlier post - I snagged one as well at my Miami store, it was marked down to $19.99 but with the additional 30% off I only paid $13.99! They had a ton of them on the rack, plus a lot of the short sleeve cardis.

  128. Customer service varies from store to store. I enjoy shopping at the J.Crew in Pleasanton (Stoneridge Mall)because of the excellent customer service and friendly staff, whereas when I go to Palo Alto (Stanford Shopping Center) the sales associates are stuffy and not welcoming.

  132. kitsmommy, I have received ivory Maggie this week with sleeves rolled up and with a dirty spot on the back. There also some dirty spots on the sleeves. I've noticed the spots because I started steaming the jacket right after I tried it on. It was obviously not a completely new piece. I've got this jacket at a good price so I cleaned but otherwise I would ask J.Crew to dry clean it for me.

  133. Lindsey B,

    Sure, I'm glad to help.
Yes, I too was mad that the Sample sale prices were so high on the first day ---but it's worse now. Nothing seems to be the reduced "category" except for plain plain T-shirts.

Remember on day 1, at least it was all tanks, T shirts short or long. But nope, today it as just plain short sleeve shirts or plain tanks that were that price. Anything will a small ruffle was bumped up to be categorized as a "blouse", which is $25! I told them that even at the B&M store, this shirt is regularly $28, how can you sell it for $25 at the sample sale???

Also, the selection on the first day was better than today's selection! Today, the floor was filled with items that were much much older like from 2005 & 2006.
The cut of the shorts were so not flattering back then, I can't believe they expect people to pay for this stuff?!

Overall, it was very disappointing. This "sample sale" is a misnomer.

  135. Kinda OT - I bought the Keegan coat this past week (in khaki) and I LOVE it. It's not as boxy on me as I thought it would be (I'm more of an hourglass figure, so I'm totally susceptible to the cardboard box look - so I wasn't expecting much). I did size down one size. I'm super happy with it, and the ruffles do stick out pretty well, which is a nice feminine touch. I'm debating on getting the white!

  137. OT, but did anyone receive the January catalog in the mail? I keep getting kicked off the catalog mailing list and wonder if anyone else is having this problem.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Hi Kate -- I think they've banned me from getting a catalog in the mail, even though I'm a "silver" card holder. It doesn't even work if I fill out an online request. I guess they figure I'll break down and go to a store and get one. The only way I was able to get one mailed was by asking for it in my dog's name.

    really!

    ReplyDelete
  139. I got a JC credit card in September but no catalogues. So I requested a catalogue on the website earlier this month and they sent me one -- it happened to be a random catalogue from early December with all the Christmas gifts. I guess they thought I meant ANY catalogue, not "the most recent catalogue"! I haven't received any since, either.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Hi Anon @ 12:22, that is called "tough love"! You did the right thing to provide your feedback on that particular store associate. I would do the same too if I were you. Not sure which stores in NY you went to but the Rockefeller team rocks. The associates all work in a mature and professional manner.

  141. Argyle,

I have the glenbrae high heel boots and love them. They really are comfy enough to walk in without killing your feet. I liked them better than the flat glenbraes because the flats have a pointier toe, while the high heels are nicely rounded. The flats have more of a riding boot look to them.

  142. Speaking of Gap--they have a big 2 page article with designer Patrick Robinson in the Feb InStyle mag. He makes 7 statements which are all rather obvious, as well. I honestly think their stuff has gone TOTALLY down hill since he started. Some of it is actually rather unwearable which is unheard of for the Gap. Sure has saved me a lot of money in the last year...well, I take that back, I moved over to spending a HELL of a lot more at J Crew!! He's been good for J Crew ;)

  144. Anon @ 4:03 - I completely agree! I LOVE the SAs at the Pleasanton store! They are wonderful. Walnut Creek - not so much. Hit and miss. They have a new manager and I think it is getting better.

  145. I did not get a January catalogue in mail either, I picked one in store.

    ReplyDelete
  146. For those of you who don't get the catalogues, even if you ask, it is nothing personal I'm sure. It's just another example of the lousy computer systems at J.Crew. They have screwed up a lot of people's information, logins, etc.

If I were you I'd call CS and see if they can help. If not, get a PS and have them send you a catalogue each month.

    ReplyDelete
  147. South Coast Plaza (in CA) was horrendously picked over. They did have a few Astrid boucle jackets in 10-14, and various Kya camis, but that was about it. Nothing too great :(

Spring stuff was out. I was kind of luke-warm on it though. There was nothing I liked enough to buy, and a few hours later at home there is nothing I'm thinking of going back for. Boo. My fav SA did say that this was just the first big shipment and another is coming next week with more fun jewelry and accessories (and clothes)!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Bug Pin: I totally agree with you about Patrick Robinson. I saw that spread a week or so ago and thought, "Bleh!" None of GAP's stuff interests me, even with the 30% off and free shipping. I've stopped spending there all together. Most of my $$ goes to JC!

  155. FFM - Thanks SO much for posting the pics of the new spring tees. I can't wait for them to show up on the site (since, as the name goes, I have no jcrew in japan). I love them all!

Shannon - My thought is that it may not be exactly like what happened with the rose tee and completely sell out. But I'm not going to wait for sale or promotion to buy the one(s) I want. I get this feeling that even though it will be full price on the site, certain sizes will sell out before the tees hit sale / promo price points. BUT, I do see the tees hitting sale pretty quickly. Seems everything in the last couple of releases has. So some JCAs might get lucky and find their size in FS, but I'm a S/M and a common size and really not willing to wait!

  159. The zoey tank was too big for me in a 0. It was cut too low. I am also 5'0 so if your a petite you may want to be careful. I loved the peach/orange color. My local store had it. I was so sad when it didn't fit.

  161. I went to the local store and did not like anything from the Spring Collection. I wanted to like it but I did not. I think our store did not get as much as other stores since it is relatively small. I liked some Tshirts but they do not worth $50. $15 may be. I am waiting for the catalog and the online new arrivals because there is nothing for me at the store.

  163. Hi nocrewinjapan! Just wanted to comment that the sizes were already getting limited on the Flower tee in the second photo, as well as the brown tee with the blue flowers in the fourth picture, when I was in the store. They had just been laid out the afternoon/evening before, and most of the XS and Small were gone already.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Mama Chaya, thanks for the information. I'm not a petite, although I am short at 5'4". I do have broad shoulders and a 36C chest. But, if it's too low, that won't work.

    ReplyDelete
  165. math teacher: i found that the zoey ran large. I bought a size smaller than my regular size. I cannot wear traditionally petite sizes (except for skirts), and by J. Crew standards have broad shoulders. It was a bit low because it's a Zoey, but in the smaller size, i thought it fit OK, i.e. not too low to show cleavage.

    ReplyDelete
  166. OT: I finally received the Duchamp-print Astor jacket and love it. At first i thought the print was too much, but when i tried it on, i was totally sold. It's so retro yet modern with slight A-line fit, very flattering. The colors in the jacket are so versatible -- black, brown, ivory. I think it looks cute with a skirt or pants.

I will say the fabric was a tad rough/itchy, perhaps it's made of a shetland wool. It's nothing like the smoothness and softness of the double-cloth Maggie.

I sized up and glad i did after calling first for the shoulder measurements since i think it runs smaller than their usual shoulders measurements for the size i purchased.

Got a few compliments on the jacket, even from a guy that works in my department. He liked it because it was retro. I really am happy with this purchase. :)

  171. I actually like the new Annie blouse in the yellow and gray print. I do think it is cut a bit smaller than the fall and winter camis and is a bit shorter. I bought a size 4 and I like the fit. I tried on the new printed pair of crop pants but the back waist was very loose and when I sat down my crack showed. I couldn't size down to a 4 because the legs and butt would be way too tight! I won't be buying this style.

Not good for a product selling at the time for $500.

Apparently this chick forgot to wear her undies or something... big time nastiness! I think I'm going to gag. JCrew PLEASE PLEASE honestly inspect return items!

  184. I have been wanting the Cheetah Flats but I still can't afford them. These Target flats are a cheaper version. Do you guys think they look too cheap? I was reading the reviews on the Target site and they are all pretty positive.

  185. anon 11:41pm That is soo GROSS. I feel so bad for you. I can't believe they actually sent that out to you. I feel like there has been a health code violation or something. If they had a disease on them you could probably sue! J.Crew lost some points in my book for that one.

  186. Christina: I've actually seen these shoes IRL and slipped them on. They look pretty good for this price, but like many T shoes, they aren't super comfy. They aren't horrible, though. Now that I think about it...they are probably as comfy as JC flats! LOL! For the price, you can't beat it.

  187. anon @11.41, totally nasty.
i believe you, i got a tee several weeks ago (posted about it as well) with yellow stains underarms!...i am telling you - the quality of jcrew stuff AND service went significantly down since they went public.

  188. Anony a 11:03: thanks, I was wondering about the sweater itself. I figured the knit & color (& fit judging from the photo's) were probably nicer than non-collection items but did not think it would sell out at $249.99. I'm sure it will pop up again at a lower price. Thanks again. :)

  190. Math teacher re:Zoey tank, I normally wear a size 4-6, and the tank in 4 was ok, size 2 ok too. its kinda low, but, unless you are really busty, not a prob (not a prob for me). I ordered the blue jasmine ~ love the colour. I will wear it w/ my snow leopard cardi!

  191. Christina, I've seen the Target flats in person too, and I like them! I don't think they are too cheap looking... and it's true; JC flats are about as comfortable as Target! I say go for it.

I've noticed that Target has been knocking off JCrew shoes pretty frequently. There were those satin flats that had a big starburst jewel thing on them, they are collection I think, and Target made black ones and patterned ones just like them. They are really cute, too, and on clearance now. Good deal if you can get them. I will pay more for good leather shoes but to me, a satin shoe is a satin shoe, to some extent. Might as well get it at Target if the style is great

  193. I saw the v-neck short sleeve cardigan on the catalog and just fell in love. Luckily, they are now a part of the final sale for $49.99 with an additional 30% off. With my student discount, the final price was $31.90 (including CA tax)! The very nice SA told me that the prices for the cardigan might go down some more next Tuesday. I got golden yellow, and I plan on coming back for the keylime ;)

  194. Em: SO exciting that your skirt was on What Not To Wear! I adore that show. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for it when I watch my DVRed episode from tonight.

  195. Heather C:

I just got back from the Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade store. I wasn't paying attention to sizes (I'm sorry), but I saw:

    - 3 gray candy tees
    - a few of the orange candy tees
    - a few of the oatmeal candy tees with the orange front-piece
    - 2 of the bright pink candy tees

    I also saw:

    - tons of the "sweet tees" (I forgot the exact names of these, but I think they're the "sweet ruffle tees." they have a slight swing shape to them). There were a ton in heather oatmeal, quite a few in violet and few other colors

    - Kya camis in all colors (white, tan, pink) and 1 in the palace print

    - several quinn camis in that papaya-ish color

    - several sharkskin skirts in the marigold and pewter colors

    - several of the wool felted minis (houndstooth and a really pretty cream one with metallic threads with the side tabs - both in size 12)

    - many Michelle merino sweaters in papaya, flamingo (or bright pink), putty, avocado and black. there were a few in navy

    - some navy double cloth coats (I'm not sure which style)

    - 2 Sean bags, 1 in tulip and 1 in burnt sienna

    - several of the satin rose tie belts

  198. Hi all,

I stopped by the B&M store today and snapped some pics of some of the new arrivals and put them on my (new) blog. Feel free to check them out--it always helps me to see items on real people.

    http://whitedressesbluesashes.blogspot.com/

Lots of new things in the store and not much in the sale section.

Enjoy! Let me know if I can answer questions.
