J.Crew's New Silk Annie Cami {pretty!}

"Thanks!" to Spring Forward (in this post) who let us know that the February issue of Cookie Magazine had J.Crew's newest cami: the Silk Annie Cami for $88. Ever since she mentioned the new cami, I have searched for it online and came up with nothing.

Luckily for us, Slastena was nice enough to share the page from Cookie magazine with J.Crew's new Silk Annie Cami (click here or the image above for a closer look), over at her {wonderful} blog (click here for her post where the above image was taken from). "Thanks!" Slastena for scanning, posting, and sharing! :)

The Silk Annie Cami is not yet available on JCrew.com, but is expected to be a part of the upcoming Spring 2009 collection. I like the new cami, especially since it is a button down all the way (which is convenient when dressing). But truth be told, I like the collars on both the Silk Elizabeth Halter (Item 95001; was $89.50, now $59.99) and the Victoria Ruffle Cami (Item 99742; $88.00, select colors: $59.99) a lot more. (I think this is because I love ruffles.)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's new Silk Annie Cami? Do you think it will be as successful as the Silk Elizabeth Halter
or the Victoria ruffle cami?

  1. Speaking of Cookie magazine, it has started showing up in my mailbox without my actively subscribing. Did I win one of those "tic tac toe" contests without knowing it or is it from using a free ship code? Does anyone remember?

It is not really of interest to me since I am not in the market for a $500 necklace for boys, KWIM?

  2. I have to report that the silk elizabeth cami is the one item I go to time and time again. I have it in the ivory and the honey glaze color and it continues to be one of my favorite go to pieces for under suits and sweaters...I like this annie cami very much and am definitely considering ordering it as soon as it becomes available.

  3. OT but would like other's opinions: what do you think of the Harper cashmere sweater under the boucle Astrid jacket? What about the Harper under the textured hemp jacket (when worn with the suit to make a suit)? I've been searching for the perfect top to put underneath each of these and then the Harper came to mind. Comments?

  4. Does that article really say that the cami is used to "make the magic MILF morph"?

[Shudder] I think I would pass for that reason alone!!

  5. Another cami, another ruffle, another decorated collar line...yawn. You have one, you have them all!

  6. Anon @ 12:25 AM: Lol, I would've missed that. MILF morphing is in now.

  7. I like the petal detail -- a nice twist on the ruffle.

  8. I don't think this cami is for me. :) But I don't think I'm as into ruffles as others on this blog!

I randomly started getting Cookie magazine too. I am not sure how I became subscribed to it...but they usually have a few J crew items in there so I browse through it anyways! :)

  10. The MILF Morph thing is too funny. Ohmygoodness.

I actually like the cami; I'm more into petal details (a la Rebecca Taylor) than ruffles so it's right up my alley. I'll be interested to see it when it actually comes out!

  11. It is too over priced for me...I think JCrew camis seem to run around the $88 mark and that is too pricey for me...I look for their silk tops to go way down in price. If I can get them for $19.99 (which I often do) I am happy as it is a layering piece in most cases for me. Plus, have to add in the cost of dry cleaning.

  12. I think the cami looks pretty...can't wait to see it IRL. :)

  13. Anon @ 12:16- If you ordered $100 at Crewcuts a while back, you got a year's subscription to Cookie. It has been showing up at my door as well.

  14. Re: Cookie - if you don't want it, cancel it and get a refund for the remaining issues. And save some trees. :)

  15. Alexis, I am with you--- Annie is pretty-- but I LOVE ruffles. I would love to see J Crew keep Victoria as a staple item..... :)

  16. I have been receiving Cookie magazine as well. I don't think you had to order just Crewcuts, because I haven't bought Crewcuts in over two years. I think they had a promo a while back that if you ordered a certain amount, you got a free subscription. It's definiately tied to our ordering habits a JC.

I, too, noticed the "MILF" statement and couldn't believe it!!! This isn't Cosmo for God's sake, it's Cookie magazine!!! Weird....

That said, I like this cami and I'm looking forward to seeing it IRL or on the web soon. If anyone sees it in their store during the new rollout, let us know. I won't be getting to a BM until early Febuary....

  17. I actually like this cami. The Elizabeth and Victoria camis were cute, but the stand-up ruffles were too much for me. I like my ruffles to be a little more understated, and it seems like the Annie cami will be more up my alley.

  18. Too funny! I totally missed the "MILK morph" comment in the magazine- that is hysterical! ;)

  19. I own the silk elizabeth in multiples too and find they have become staples to my everyday office wardrobe under a jacket or cardi. The good feeling that I got from that cami convinced me to buy the Bria in Champagne, which I love. The "hand" of the fabric is much more substantial than the habotai silk of the elizabeth, though less sturdy than the slub silk used in the Piper tanks of past seasons. I bought a P6 and it found it fit TTS and I cannot even describe how gorgeous and sublime the champagne color is IRL. There is a slight sheen to the fabric...very slight. Very understated elegance. The collar lays flat and frays ever so lightly at the edges and so differentiates itself from the elizabeth and the victoria. & in that sense it's much more subdued than the victoria, which for me, is a little too "much" for my everyday work casual attire. I was fortunate to grab it at the $79.99 price + an additional 40% off (offered to me by CS after numerous messed up xmas orders) and found it totally worth the money. I am definitely wearing it with matchstick dark denim or pairing it with a wool pencil skirt or trouser for work. It's been one of my best buys this season.

  20. It looks really pretty. I'd like to see a close up pic when it's available on the website.

  22. I totally missed on a joke.:) What does MIFL mmorph mean?

    ReplyDelete
  23. A MILF is a mom that teen or pre-teen boys are sexually attracted to.

A polite way of expressing the acronym is "Mom I'd Like to Fondle" but there are more explicit versions. Use your imagination or Google if your imagination is limited...

So this supposedly family oriented magazine is telling its readers to wear this blouse/ensemble if they want to magically become alluring to adolescent males. Not to mention the REALLY BAD alliteration!

    ReplyDelete
  24. PS. If you've ever watched 30 Rock, they used to have a running joke about a reality TV show called "MILF Island" sponsored by the network that the 30 Rock characters work for. The premise was a bunch of (surgically enhanced) 30-something moms in bikinis and Daisy Dukes on an island competing for the title of MILF and judged by a panel of adolescent boys. "Twenty MILFs, fifty eighth-grade boys, and no rules!" It was a spoof on Survivor type shows.

Actually, I think there was an Apprentice contestant some years back who actually referred to herself as a "MILF from Iowa" in one of those one on one interviews.

  25. Yes I get the cookie mag too! It just started showing up in my mailbox. I vaguely recall something about crewcuts and a free subscription.I never signed up for it but I do enjoy the magazine. I won't however continue it once its over - I like it but not enough to purchase a subscription.

    ReplyDelete
  26. PS; too funny about the MILF comment. I agree though- Cookie is not COSMO!! I just googled MILF and woah, there's a little too much info out there for me....

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm surprised they didn't catch heat for the MILF tag. Characters on Gossip Girl were texting OMFG and people were all over that. I think MILF is a little bit racier, given the original context.

anon @ 1227 - Fondle indeed! Nice substitution to keep it family-friendly. LOL

  28. Does anyone have the Bria cami in the Light Flamingo color? I was thinking of ordering this top since it's on such a good sale, but they don't have the Champagne color left in my size. Thanks!

  29. Anon at 12:27 PM;
Oh, I see.. :) Thank you for the explanation. I am really surprised that established f-a-m-i-l-y magazine chose to include this statement. I guess, they were trying to be edgy, but to me it's just...well, distastefull..

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh no, not another cami I like. I have almost every color in the Elizabetha and the Victoria. Now a new cami to love. Curse you JC, curse you . .

    ReplyDelete
  31. OMG--I had heard this used before but never with quite the understanding that one gets when they GOOGLE it! Geez, I cannot believe the negative or really just total inappropriateness that cookie mag made by using that term. It sounded plenty derogatory but my gosh after seeing that google list come up..yikes! They probably should apologize!

  32. I have had the song Stacy's Mom in my head all day, all because of this discussion!

  33. I got a 1yr subscription to Cookie like 3yrs ago for $7 and they just keep sending it! I really need to cancel though because there has been something offensive to me in almost every issue.

As for the cami - I really like the petal detail as opposed to ruffle but I don't really care for the button-front.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think the button-front is a good idea. For non-stretch fabrics, they have to either have a zipper or buttons, or be wide enough to put on/off without tearing the seams. That is why so many JC camis are blousy as all heck. Buttons should help it be more form-fitting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree, it is pretty, but way too similar to the Lydia and other camis. I have the Eliz. fuschia and the Victoria in navy and pink. Haven;t worn any of them yet, waiting until closer to spring, I guess I could layer them now. Not different enough for me to order it. The milf comment is kind of crass.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love the petal detail on that cami! Reminds me of hydrangeas, one of my favorite flowers. Not so crazy about the button front through, but I will wait and see when the top comes out. Could they not have used a side zipper instead?

Slightly off topic, but has anyone gotten the Cherie or Lattice camis featured in the resort catalogue? I saw them and I am in love ;-).

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know I am in the minority but I don't own the Elizabeth or Lydia. Definitely too elaborate for a stay at home mom. I would never wear either.

I like this one though. esp. with the button front. I can't stand JCrew zippers poking me in the sides.....if this goes down--way down in price--might consider it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Pretty but how would this look after washing/cleaning??

I can't imagine with all those little disky bits! or petals or whatever!

    ReplyDelete
  39. namtaro -- a couple of other JCAs and I have bought the lattice camis. I like it, even though it's not exactly what I expected. The colors aren't what are represented on the website. The amber is a yellow, like cornsilk on the merino Lea cardigan, and the grey is, according to JaneEsq in this post, "a little less blue than it appeared in the catalogue...I would describe it as light pewter with a touch of black, a great neutral color." I haven't heard anything about the other colors yet.

The fit is less blousy than with some of the other camis that have been offered this year. Also, I should note that the weave or fabric has some thicker lines in it that almost look like snags. If you zoom all the way in on the close-up shot online, you might be able to see what I'm talking about. I think it's just the fabric or the weave itself.

But all in all, I think it's a pretty piece with a really interesting design at the neck, and I'm keeping the amber/yellow one.

  40. kitchy7 - because of that quasi-halter neckline/collar on the lattice cami, do you find that you have to wear a strapless bra underneath?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks for the info kitchy7!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Because of the shape of the neckline, bra straps are visible. I haven't worn mine yet (it just arrived a couple of days ago), but I'll be wearing it under a jacket until it gets warm, so it won't be a problem for a few more months. After that, I'll probably wear a strapless bra underneath it if I wear it by itself, unless I invest in one of those fancy bras you can wear 100 different ways.

  43. kitchy7 - thanks for the info.
