A big "thanks!" to beachbum (in this post) who let us know that J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code TDN-30. This offer expires 1/17/08.
Does that mean there will be no extra 20%/ 30% off sales any time soon (not until 01/17/08) ? Am I the only one naively awaiting the next big promotion???
This might be bratty and I really don't mean it to be- but can I just say that it seems like if I'm spending $150+ at J.Crew, free shipping ought to be a given.
Anon (First Comment) and Beachbum - add me to the list of those naively waiting. When I saw this post, I was actually bummed, because it causes me assume that there will be no % off until the 17th.
Perhaps I should go down to the B&M, order from the red phone and get the extra 30% endorsed. I do not see how the current promo price would get any lower on the items I like.
I was also naively waiting for a % until yesterday, when one of the items in my cart sold out, then I panicked and pulled the trigger. I still got the 15% student discount, which I figured would be better than waiting until more of the items I wanted selling out. OT, I tried the Personal Shopper service and I was so pleasantly surprised!!! My personal shopper ran a We will find it search for me, found the item I wanted and shipped it to me (with FS + 15% student discount) within hours os my request, he was so efficient and nice. I love this service and will definitely make me spend more money at JCrew in the future.
Speaking of the sample sale... is it worth checking out? I could schedule a business trip to coincide that, hehe. Though I assume most items would be of limited sizes?
This does not look like the type of offer that would be on the Jcrew webpage and available to everyone (like the 20-30% off final sale would be). Those usually have cute words in the code (HOHOHO, TURKEY, FREESHIP, etc....) Don't give up hope yet!
i bought something today that was $98ish..so i had to add a $3 item to use JAN09...told my sister about this and how i was happy to be getting free shipping and she said "oh yeah, you are probably saving $4 or $5 huh?"
TRY $15 to $20!
I wouldn't even need FREE SHIPPING. just reasonable shipping!
How did you get the student discount on an internet order? I used to be able to call them or email them from my educ. email address, but they they said if you got Free Shipping, you couldn't "combine" the 15% educ. discount.
I placed two orders this weekend, so please fill me in? Thanks.
Anon at 7:34 -- put 99 in the quantity box when you put something in your cart. It will tell you if there are 99 or fewer items. It's not a perfect system -- it takes a while for phone orders to deplete the inventory online, so you might think there are 5 items left when there are only 1 or 2, or none at all -- but it should give you a good idea of whether you can wait for an item to go on sale or whether you should buy it now if you really want it.
ugh, I placed an order Saturday morning using one of the freeship codes, and am still waiting for a confirmation email... my order number status doesn't show anything canceled, but I don't trust it too much anymore. :/ hopefully tomorrow morning, my order status will be more reliable/updated.
The Madelaine dress *finally* showed up in my size, so I ordered it b/c I was worried it would disappear again.
S, Give them a call again or email again. It should work because I got the free ship and student discount. If one reps says no, try calling again.. I didn't have a problem doing it. Good luck! :)
Just FYI: The Westfield Center JCRew is San Fran had 3 pairs of mary jane spectator peeptoes: graphite size 9, dusty rose size 7.5, and rust (or whatever it is called) 9.5. They are up high in a display but a SA checked the sizes for me using a ladder. The shoes would probably sell if they weren't up high! They also had glenbrae extended calf size 8 gray and 9.5 dark maple. i tried the 8 and couldn't get my foot in so they seem to run small since i am an 8. I would love to find a heather charcoal berry Astrid. I was ordering it by redphone today when they ran out. i need 12 or 14.
I was at my BM today and the SA gave me a lookbook. There were so many items that I really liked. If this is a hint of what's to come I can't wait!! And many jewelry pieces that I liked very much. Can't wait for the spring roll outs!
I agree lots of cute stuff in the Look book. Unfortunately, I drove 2 hours to the store and they wouldn't let me take a look book home because they only had 8. :( To console myself, I brought home a travel trench instead lol.
Would anyone consider scanning the Lookbook so that Alexis can post it? Some of us live nowhere near a B&M and will not be seeing any of the new arrivals for another week or so online. I'm desperate to see what is to come. Thank you!
Jeff - and any other men who may be reading/posting, have you seen the Sutherland trench or top coat IRL? I'm curious how they fit and what you think of the fabric. They look nice on the website.
I decided against the peacoat based on your description. I live in Canada so I can't check things out at the B&M. I really appreciate your advice.
sorry for ot but would someone verify the following information i found on ebay?
"Where do all the J Crew dresses on eBay come from? Why so many different prices? When you return an online purchase from J Crew, they don't take the time to inspect & re-package it. Instead, returns are sold to a liquidator (Gabriel Brothers) at a very reduced price. Usually tags are removed & lable marked (to avoid retail store return). Most of the J Crew on eBay has been bought from "Gabes" & then sold to you. So don't be fooled into thinking you need to pay $100+ for genuine J Crew. One of the biggest sellers actually buys from us who are selling for less, then takes nicer pics. & re-sells for double the price (I'd be happy to provide proof). ...So buy from me & help send my kids to college :)"
the lookbook JUST came in. literally hot off the press. it's not for people who spend a lot, or for favorite customers. stores only have a small number of them and aren't supposed to hand them out. they're just so customers who want to see a sneak peek can. plus, it's for all of spring so some things aren't coming in until february or even april and some things aren't even available.
just ask at your b&m if you would like to see it. there is a men's one as well.
^ Well, in that case, I feel blessed. I asked for one, they went to the triple secret drawer, and put it in my bag! It's delicious, but I don't have a scanner, drat.
Anon @ 9:21 PM: I found the Sutherland to be a better fit than the incredibly boxy peacoat. However, don't mistake it for being fitted. It's not. In fact, it's a bit drape-ish to me. Still, I've never liked plain trench coats in the first place, so don't take my word on this one. Better off checking it out yourself. By the way, none of the stores I've been to carried a size small. You might have to order this online.
heather: I placed three orders online Saturday morning with the free shipping code but they still say "submitted" instead of "releaseable" and "released" which is usually the case after an hour or so. I did get the confirmation email. Worried that my orders are stuck somewhere - really want my black Maggie!. Does your order status say released? -Viv
Anon @ 6:39: Well if you'd like to get your hands on some J. Crew merchandise that's not available at any store with 70% off the retail price then yes. Yes, you should go. And for a plus, some items you pick up there might not be released at all. However, if it is out of your way, or if you don't care much about this, I'd say you should pass.
Anonymous @9:21- I ordered the Sutherland topcoat in December and ended up returning it. I ordered a Medium, which was too small. I also ordered the Large, and that was too big. I am always a Large in almost all clothes but I this coat just did not do it for me. Ironically, I ended up with the classic pea coat (Sorry, Jeff) in black size Large, which fits perfectly. HTH.
Thanks, Jeff. That sounds very attractive. I just need to plan my business trip in advance and be there early, finish up early, drop things off at the hotel (wow, already prepared to spend) and arrange my meetings all in the afternoon!!! I have never been crazy enough about a brand to go to any sample sales. Would you recommend to be there early like 9:30 or even 9 am to get in the line?
I've had different experiences trying to use my student discount and free shipping on internet orders. One CS on the phone just gave me a code to use on my online order. (that was great. but I couldn't get free shipping) Another CS said no to the student discount on online order and said that I would have to make the order over the phone in order to get the student discount. I went ahead and ordered (while she was on the phone) and gave her my order number so that she could apply the 15%. I asked about free shipping but she said no. I then decided to call back and spoke with another CS and she said that she would give me free shipping as a "one-time" deal since my order was large enough to qualify for free shipping. So...I guess the moral of this story is that it really depends on who you get on the phone in order to use both the student and free shipping discounts!
anon 9:50, i wouldn't doubt that. i only deal w/a select number of ebay jcrew resellers. anyone living in virginia (for sure, for sure!) is near one of these "gabriel brothers" type retailers. i always ask if it is direct from jcrew or if it is from an outlet. i always choose nwt, anything nwot is usually a red flag that it is worn. hope that helps!
To Anon: Well, I've only been to one sample sale before & that was Cole Haan's, which I was forced to go to. Haha. For this sample sale though, I'd probably get there around the time it starts if not a little before. I honestly do not expect much for me to fight over. Face it, there's not going to be that much menswear there, or male customers. As for you though, I'd guess you should get there early. I'm off on Wednesdays anyway, nothing for me to worry about.
Anon 9:50 p.m. I am skeptical of the claim. I am sure that they do re-send out internet/catalog returns. That's how I got a sweater wrapped in Talbot's tissue paper!! Others have reported getting items that had obviously been worn. JC is terrible about inspecting what they take back, and they most certainly send it back out.
I view the claims of ebay sellers skeptically since the outing of Rapunzel1921/Leigh. Some sellers will say anything to make a quick buck.
Yeah, Rapunzel1921/Leigh/Sivouthy Lam was pretty ridiculous. I mean, WHO wears their stuff and then resells it? WHO recruits their readers to locate hard to find items so that she can turn around and sell them at a huge profit mark up?
I guess you never know, even if someone as shady as she is would wear something, and then return it back to the store, nwt...jcrew would still resell it if it looked decent. I'm sure it's happened many times before, we just don't know it!
Oh, absolutely they re-sell returned items. Recently, i got a worn t-shirt. How do i know it was worn? It has yellow stains under the arms!!! I noticed this when just before washing it (as i always! with new stuff). Had i found out earlier eg.before removing security tag and a price tag, i would demand an exchange...i just made sure i wash it properly instead!:)
I am a reseller. Because I process a lot of jcrew items. I know they not only sell returned items. They process them so you are less likely to find that out.
They have been confirmed. People sent in links to how she took pictures of items she purchased (and her exact size), wore out to dinner (on her blog), then days later, she ebayed them under her ebay id rapunzel1921 as nwt for some ridiculous price, same pictures, mind you.
Some of her followers claimed it was a sham, and went to bat for her, saying the ebayer had taken her pictures. Funny, because the pictures on her site were same picture that were watermarked with "rapunzel1921". So unless Leigh is a pro at removing watermarks, or can explain how that reseller has about 4 pictures the same as on her blog, it was all a little too coincidental. Oh, and they're both from the Philly, PA area and both shop at King of Prussia.
There wasn't anything maliciously done on this blog except to speak the truth. We all love jcrew, but in a totally legit way!
I haven't been able to combine my student discount w/free shipping codes online for some time now.
Also I've noticed that most retails shops don't process orders on the weekend so that is probably why your order is still showing open or submitted. I'm sure tomorrow you will see your status change.
anon 10.48, yes it's totallly gross, as i said i removed all tags and already soak it in a water so jcrew might thtink it was me wearing it, besides i just couldn't bother... for years i had been spending hundreds of $ at JC and over the past few months i spend unerd 150, it is not the same store anymore. no quality, service is simple unacceptable, their policy seemes to get more confusing and those prices -going up and up each season (cashmere for example). Years ago when they were smaller they really valued EACH client, i guess now, when tehy went public it's all about the bottom line...sad..
For over a year I had not uded the JC cc and several weeks ago they sent me "updated" - silver. OH, thnks! but, no thanks i want to see the quality ans service i used to see!
Anon 10:59, I have nothing against reselling. It is a free market afterall. J.Crew marks up everything by who knows a couple hundred % perhaps. But reselling used clothes and claims they are NWT is dishonest.
I have a couple favorite jc resellers too (paisley petunia, fancythistoo, etc), just stick to whatever works for you and when in doubt, check the feedback, and the quantity of items they purchased. If someone sells ONE size, NWT or NWOT, it's usually a giveaway. :(
Placed 3 orders in the past 2 weeks with the free shipping codes. I emailed JCrew with the order numbers and they gave me my 15% educator's discount no problems. Also, my online PS gave me free shipping and my educator's discount on a recent purchase as well.
It is my understand you cannot use any other discounts like extra % off with a student/educator's discount. At least according to JCRew customer service AND my online PS.
I'm the one with the three "submitted" orders. Called CS yesterday and was told that the status doesn't change because it's the weekend. Not sure how true this is. Have not come across this issue when I placed online orders in the past on weekends. I did get three email confirmations. Sigh.
anon 6:43: Mine always changed over the weekend from submitted to Open, It is from Open to Shipped that does not change over the weekend. When I do not see submit change after a couple of hours I call, and a couple of times there was a Hold put on the account because I used the wrong 3 digit security code on back of the cc and the other was due to to low inventory.
I am so sick of dealing with CS that are not knowledgable, it makes me happy that I did not order this past weekend. What happened to J Crew's A team? they consistently delivered great CS.
Heather - after reading your other post complaining that J.Crew isn't using enough or a specific source of recycled paper in their catalogues, I am shocked that you would order online.
The cardboard packaging is extremely wasteful and the UPS vans are spewing emissions constantly.
Shame on you! Get on your bike and ride to the store.
I, too, recycle everything except the plastic bag. And, I deconstruct jcrew shopping bags and wrap gifts with them. :) PS-- I wear petites, so even if I biked to a store, I'd have to red phone in my order. :)
If you placed an order over the weekend, you should call and get your order released manually. CS says they have problems with orders stuck at "submitted."
VENTING ALERT-I have decided ALL of J Crew's shipping dept must have left after the holidays as my 3 separate orders are moving like molasses and I am going to be very PO'ed if things sit there and do not ship to me and therefore sell out! This is taking a ridiculous amount of time. Also for no apparent reason they are sending me NO email confirmations of any kind even though I have now RE-signed up for email and spoken to a CSR about it.
I placed an order 5 days ago, and it still hasn't shipped out. 4-7 days by ground, my *ss. I only live 2 UPS hops from Roanoke VA, and I used to get my packages 3-4 days after ordering. Now it's more like 7-10 days.
And the last time I ordered overnight, they lost my entire order except one item (I honestly think the box never left the warehouse), so no more overnights for me.
I just called about my saturday morning order (no conf. email so far, CS apologized for that), and they said it's ok and everything went through, but my order status still says "open." so we'll see. hopefully it will arrive mid-week.
During the HOHOHO I had a couple of orders that were in the "released" status for a long time. I called about it and was told that they were locating some of the items. Most were items that had sold out and then popped back up in my size. Eventually everything shipped except one of the double-serge pencil skirts.
^ Casual crew, you know what? I think you are right!!! I mean I haven't ordered since the follow-up to TURKEY fiasco. There were many orders after that with a FAB discount and they were working hard on fulfilling that mess by sending everything overnight. They really "had my back" and assigned someone to work with me all the way through which I appreciated.
Now I placed 3 separate orders for things that popped up in sale (items they had never been able to recoup for me) and nothing is happening. Thanks for the shout out--I do feel "pinned":)
I am patiently waiting for a 20% or 30% off code, because I think we were spoiled last month with all the great offers. I want a Madeline coat in sea salt, but I need some advice on the size. I have the Greta in a 4 (fits perfect) and I usually take a small or 4 in tops and 4 or petite 6 in pants/skirts (I'm 5' 3"). It seems that all of my size small sweaters from this year are running really big (like the Valerie bow cardigan and the Cambridge cable), but my candy tees and painter tees fit just fine. I have a velvet Ecole in p6, but it's not as fitted as I thought it would be. Not sure if I should get the Madeline in a petite 6 or 4; they seem to have lots of p4's but a few p6's. . . and I'll only order it if it goes down in price (I got the Greta with the TURKEY code so I am spoiled!)
EXTRA20 is now valid for cardmembers through Sunday. The extra 20% final sale begins tomorrow for non-cardmembers. This cannot be used with other promotions, so no free shipping or student/teacher discount :(
Dear J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados: Please feel free (and encouraged) to share your thoughts and opinions. :) However, please note that this is still a personal blog. So comments that are considered inappropriate (e.g. obscene, racist, homophobic, personal attacks, rude, and just plain mean) will be removed.
Does that mean there will be no extra 20%/ 30% off sales any time soon (not until 01/17/08) ? Am I the only one naively awaiting the next big promotion???
ReplyDeleteNo, I am awaiting it too (perhaps naively).
ReplyDeleteSometimes they run both together - fingers crossed. :)
This might be bratty and I really don't mean it to be- but can I just say that it seems like if I'm spending $150+ at J.Crew, free shipping ought to be a given.
ReplyDeleteAnon (First Comment) and Beachbum - add me to the list of those naively waiting. When I saw this post, I was actually bummed, because it causes me assume that there will be no % off until the 17th.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Ellis, your comment is not bratty. I agree.
Perhaps I should go down to the B&M, order from the red phone and get the extra 30% endorsed. I do not see how the current promo price would get any lower on the items I like.
ReplyDeleteI was also naively waiting for a % until yesterday, when one of the items in my cart sold out, then I panicked and pulled the trigger. I still got the 15% student discount, which I figured would be better than waiting until more of the items I wanted selling out.

Ana, so he did a we will find it for you on a FS item? Or he give you a FS discount plus 15% discount on the item?
ReplyDeleteAre they allowing the 30% off to be used over the red phone? For a while they weren't.
ReplyDeleteAna, does your FS mean free shipping, or final sale?
ReplyDeleteAnon 627, my sister asked over the red phone at her B&M today. The rep told her she could only offer the 30% if a store associate would approve it.
ReplyDeleteI was also anxiously awaiting another % off promotion...sigh...maybe they'll reduce prices instead???
ReplyDeleteA rep once told me the lower the inventory, the lower the price would be which to me does not seem to be true.
ReplyDeleteAnd there are items that would never go lower than a certain price as I have been observing over the past two months, sadly!
I'm holding out for the sample sale. Hehehehe. :D
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the sample sale... is it worth checking out? I could schedule a business trip to coincide that, hehe. Though I assume most items would be of limited sizes?
ReplyDeleteFFM - I was thinking that too. Here's to hoping . . .
ReplyDeleteThis does not look like the type of offer that would be on the Jcrew webpage and available to everyone (like the 20-30% off final sale would be). Those usually have cute words in the code (HOHOHO, TURKEY, FREESHIP, etc....) Don't give up hope yet!

ReplyDeleteWhat's happening on the 17TH?
feel like i've been living under a rock.
i agree w/ anon @ 650, this code doesn't look like the normal ones.. maybe a new promo with extra % will be on its way soon. (i hope)
ReplyDeletejust a tip, every morning or so they always restock the website so your best bet is to do your ordering then before it gets "sold out."
lets all keep our fingers crossed! :)
I would like to see a fs code with the new rollout at the end of the month.
ReplyDeleteThe free shipping code expires the 17th.
ReplyDeleteHow do you check product inventory? I feel so out of the loop on this!!
ReplyDeleteAna Patricia,

ReplyDeleteTo Anon: Well, I've only been to one sample sale before & that was Cole Haan's, which I was forced to go to.
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:50 p.m.
ReplyDeleteI view the claims of ebay sellers skeptically since the outing of Rapunzel1921/Leigh.
ReplyDeleteI guess you never know, even if someone as shady as she is would wear something, and then return it back to the store, nwt...jcrew would still resell it if it looked decent.
ReplyDeleteA, 10:45, that is gross! I would have still returned it back to the store. Talk about a lack of quality control!:(
ReplyDeleteWho is Leigh? I read quite a few "accusations" towards her on this blog. Are those accusations confirmed?!
ReplyDeleteI am a reseller. Because I process a lot of jcrew items. I know they not only sell returned items. They process them so you are less likely to find that out.
ReplyDeleteMost items deeply marked down are return items.
ReplyDeleteThey have been confirmed. People sent in links to how she took pictures of items she purchased (and her exact size), wore out to dinner (on her blog), then days later, she ebayed them under her ebay id rapunzel1921 as nwt for some ridiculous price, same pictures, mind you.
ReplyDeleteSome of her followers claimed it was a sham, and went to bat for her, saying the ebayer had taken her pictures.
ReplyDeleteAlso I've noticed that most retails shops don't process orders on the weekend so that is probably why your order is still showing open or submitted. I'm sure tomorrow you will see your status change.
For those who plan on going to the sample sale, it's actually going to start a day early on 1/20. It's posted on the clothingline website.

anon 10.48, yes it's totallly gross, as i said i removed all tags and already soak it in a water so jcrew might thtink it was me wearing it, besides i just couldn't bother...
ReplyDeletefor years i had been spending hundreds of $ at JC and over the past few months i spend unerd 150, it is not the same store anymore. no quality, service is simple unacceptable, their policy seemes to get more confusing and those prices -going up and up each season (cashmere for example).
Years ago when they were smaller they really valued EACH client, i guess now, when tehy went public it's all about the bottom line...sad..
For over a year I had not uded the JC cc and several weeks ago they sent me "updated" - silver. OH, thnks! but, no thanks i want to see the quality ans service i used to see!
sorry for all those spelling errors, i am doing dozen of things while typing :)
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:59, I have nothing against reselling. It is a free market afterall. J.Crew marks up everything by who knows a couple hundred % perhaps. But reselling used clothes and claims they are NWT is dishonest.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple favorite jc resellers too (paisley petunia, fancythistoo, etc), just stick to whatever works for you and when in doubt, check the feedback, and the quantity of items they purchased. If someone sells ONE size, NWT or NWOT, it's usually a giveaway. :(
ReplyDeleteI think 'paisley petunia''s items are from jcrew clearance store.
ReplyDeleteOH....duh, she's from VA, where they have those jc clearance centers.
ReplyDeletePlaced 3 orders in the past 2 weeks with the free shipping codes. I emailed JCrew with the order numbers and they gave me my 15% educator's discount no problems. Also, my online PS gave me free shipping and my educator's discount on a recent purchase as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is my understand you cannot use any other discounts like extra % off with a student/educator's discount. At least according to JCRew customer service AND my online PS.
If you order is stuck in Submitted there is a problem either with the order inventory or your cc. Call CS!
ReplyDeleteI'm the one with the three "submitted" orders. Called CS yesterday and was told that the status doesn't change because it's the weekend. Not sure how true this is. Have not come across this issue when I placed online orders in the past on weekends. I did get three email confirmations. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the next free shipping no minimum code!
ReplyDeleteI used to buy so much with those. Now I don't buy as much JCRew.
Thanks, Alexis for posting the other one. I just happened to be able to use it for one item before it expired:)
anon 6:43: Mine always changed over the weekend from submitted to Open, It is from Open to Shipped that does not change over the weekend. When I do not see submit change after a couple of hours I call, and a couple of times there was a Hold put on the account because I used the wrong 3 digit security code on back of the cc and the other was due to to low inventory.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick of dealing with CS that are not knowledgable, it makes me happy that I did not order this past weekend. What happened to J Crew's A team? they consistently delivered great CS.
ReplyDeleteHeather - after reading your other post complaining that J.Crew isn't using enough or a specific source of recycled paper in their catalogues, I am shocked that you would order online.
ReplyDeleteThe cardboard packaging is extremely wasteful and the UPS vans are spewing emissions constantly.
Shame on you! Get on your bike and ride to the store.
anon 7:41: Get over it, I recycle everything from JC except for the plastic bag.
ReplyDelete^ Yes, I can see your halo from here.
ReplyDeleteumm, anon @ 7:41 am--
ReplyDeleteI, too, recycle everything except the plastic bag.
ReplyDeleteVENTING ALERT-I have decided ALL of J Crew's shipping dept must have left after the holidays as my 3 separate orders are moving like molasses and I am going to be very PO'ed if things sit there and do not ship to me and therefore sell out! This is taking a ridiculous amount of time. Also for no apparent reason they are sending me NO email confirmations of any kind even though I have now RE-signed up for email and spoken to a CSR about it.
ReplyDeleteBug Pin, I Agree!!!!
ReplyDeleteI placed an order 5 days ago, and it still hasn't shipped out.
ReplyDeleteDuring the HOHOHO I had a couple of orders that were in the "released" status for a long time. I called about it and was told that they were locating some of the items. Most were items that had sold out and then popped back up in my size. Eventually everything shipped except one of the double-serge pencil skirts.
ReplyDeleteHope it works out for you fellow JCAs
Bug Pin: I truly think you are jinked when it comes to J Crew shipping. Hoping you get this one soon.
ReplyDeleteI have been surprised how fast my 2orders were processed since Christmas, within 24 hrs, and I live in Canada.
ReplyDeleteNow I placed 3 separate orders for things that popped up in sale (items they had never been able to recoup for me) and nothing is happening.
ReplyDeleteEXTRA20 is now valid for cardmembers through Sunday. The extra 20% final sale begins tomorrow for non-cardmembers. This cannot be used with other promotions, so no free shipping or student/teacher discount :(
