J.Crew Fit: Which is your fave?

J.Crew offers lots of pant styles: City, Wide, Favorite, and Original-fit. For denim there are: Matchstick, Trouser, Bootcut, Hip-slung, and Boy-fit.

Although I own several pairs of J.Crew pants and denim jeans, I have stuck to the same styles: city-fit, wide-leg, and trouser cut. I find these styles look best (e.g. the most flattering) on my 5'8" pear shaped frame. Whenever I try to stray, it ends up with a return of the product. I don't even dare try on the matchstick jeans in fear of the outcome (which would probably be a reminder that I am not as thin as Kiera Knightly!)

As a help to others who are unsure what style to get: What is your body style and favorite style?

  1. I love, love, love the trouser fit jeans! I think they would be flattering on pretty much anyone.

I own several pairs of the bootcut and hipslung jeans. Personally, I don't notice much of a difference at all in the rise or leg shape of these two fits.

Sometimes I wish the rise was a little higher on their denim. After several washings, it seems like they creep lower and lower on my hips.

  2. Lynn, couldn't agree with you more on the trouser fit! :) They look great and can be dressed up (for a more sophisticated look) or down (for a casual look) easily.

  3. Hi Alexis! I can't tell you enough how much I love your blog!

I forgot to mention my body type... I'm 5'6" and have a straight, boyish figure without a curve in sight! I've been so happy with the trouser fit looks on me.

  5. From the waist down, I have a pretty boyish figure- i.e. no hips. Although I don't buy J.Crew jeans, I can only buy their chino products in the 'city' fit. There have been so many favorite fit pants that I have had to pass on... for some reason there is always so much extra material in the crotch region and they never fit well.

  6. Hey Candid Engineer! It is funny you mention about the extra fabric in the crotch region. I find most pants have extra fabric there and it is something I never understood. Don't the suppliers of clothes know that they are doing this?

  7. I am so happy to come across your blog. I just love J.Crew!!!
I love the the trouser fit jeans. I also own several pairs of the hipslung, matchstick, bootcut, cityfit, and original fit. I like to try several kinds of fits as I am 6ft tall. I have yet to be disappointed in any of them.

  9. I normally wear the J crew Minnie pants, I'm considering some in the city fit though, how do they fit in comparision for pants and shorts?
