Yey! New arrivals are here!

As Jagjag2 and another visitor commented in another post, J. Crew's New Arrivals are here. I am taking Jagjag2's suggestion of creating its own post. So please feel free to discuss what items you are most looking forward to purchasing and which ones you are not going to. :)

Right now, I am loving the Lucienne gown (click here) despite its price tag (that prohibits me from ever really entertaining the thought of purchasing it). I also really like the Soleil d'Or jacket (click here), so much that I don't even mind that it is in Metallic Gold!

I see they have brought back more expensive (but beautiful) luggage pieces. Seriously, who is purchasing those? I mean, if I am spending $2,000 on a piece of luggage (which I would never) then LV better be stamped all over it.

Of course, the best part about new arrivals is not just looking forward to what new and wonderful items J.Crew will be offering, but it is also that their sale section is going to be juicy in a couple of weeks. :)

  1. I just looked at some more new arrivals and must say I am not impressed with the Serengeti ballet flats (Item 94663).

And what is up with the Globe-Trotter Centenary 13" vanity case (Item 99429) that costs $1,000!?!

  2. Sorry Alexis for my negative comment on the wedding dress that you like....I posted before I saw your comment. It is a pretty dress but to me not for a wedding. Once again...sorry:)

Thanks for the seperate section. You rock!:) Very fun site:) I think we all need help....he he.

  3. My daughter loves the same jacket that you do....

  4. Jagjag2, please don't apologize! I value your opinion and I recognize we all like different style dresses because we all have different shapes. :)

But I completely agree with you in that the Lucienne gown would not be a good wedding dress. However, as a dress alone, I do like it very much.

  5. I hesitate to say that I won't buy something, because when it's in that sale section everything looks perfect! That luggage, althought built for an elephant, is super duper pricey. Wow.
I wanted to point out that the model in the JCrew swim section is great. She is gorgeous and athletic, of course, but she's human, thighs and all. In contrast, the Gap "model" has had some un-human touch ups.
That said, I love the shimmering reef bikini! I'm obsessed with their swim collection :)

  6. Hey Marisa! I believe the swim wear model of the New Arrivals you are referring to is actually Real World Paris alum Mallory Snyder. She use to play soccer for her university.

It's a bit sad that I know that, isn't it?

  7. I love the Lucienne gown as well... although look at the picture from the side. It looks like a maternity wedding dress! But the fabric and covered buttons are to die for.

I'm sure they'll sell them all at $1800. That's about the price of a decently-made informal gown like that. Sad, isn't it?

  8. Hi Lynn! It really is crazy how much we spend on wedding dresses considering it only gets worn once. :)

  9. Oh, the gown is beautiful! I can't wait to see what else goes on sale... I think I'll need another job to feed my J.Crew addiction!

  10. Alexis, that's impressive!
BTW, I bought my wedding gown from JCrew when they first brought it back in 2005, that straight satin number with no frills... anyone remember?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I remember the dress! It was simple and sophisticated... and a great price, if I remember correctly.

I went ahead and ordered the Python Lucia jacket. I agree with you Alexis... the Italian matelasse one is stunning, but I wanted something brown or ivory. Plus, the matelasse is about double the price of the Python :-) I can see why though... the fabric on that one looks great. We'll have to keep our eye on it and see if it gets marked down again!

  12. I'm keeping my eyes on the following:
Sea glass Piper tank (I love this print)
Soleil d'Or jacket (I just hope its not too shiny)
    Striped slub-cotton beach weekend dress
Brushstroke-print linen mini (I love how they paired it with Elizabeth halter)

I'm really suprise with the price of the luggages. I love the vintage look but all at over $1000!

How do you ladies feel about the sunglasses? I don't think I ever remember seeing Jcrew carrying sunglasses but I feel like I have at the same time but defitney it wasn't at the prices they have them for. I'm a little disappointed with that.

And what about the Martinique jacket? It looks interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Opps, just realize the sunglasses Jcrew are carrying are by Selima.

  14. Is it just me or does anyone else notice the prices of the leather capri sandals are getting out of hand?!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think all of the prices on the capri sandals are out of control.
Jeweled critter capri sandals at $78?!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't know if any of you also shop Crewcuts but they have a pair of boys swimtrunks for $98! Out of hand, indeed!

  17. Hi everyone!

Marissa: I actually remember the dress you are talking about too! (I wish I was this good at remembering stuff related to my work.) It is a very beautiful dress that I thought was quite timeless.

Lynn: The Python Lucia jacket is beautiful. I will take either jacket to be honest! Both have a great shape and fabric to them. Let me know how you like it once you get it! :)

I also have noticed that the regular prices for many of J.Crew's staple items have really skyrocketed: like their regular cotton shirts, their cardigans, and those capri sandals. (I actually have about 5 pairs of those capri sandals and bought them at around $10-20/each when they were on sale.)

  18. Marisa, I'm so glad you brought up Crewcuts because I've been looking over their things and wondering if I might be able to fit into their xxl items. I'm very petite (5 ft, 90 lbs) and wear items from abercrombie and gapkids size 12 and wonder whether the crewcut sizes would work for me. Unfortunately, there isn't a crewcuts in my area for me to check out personally. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Fried wonton, I love the martinique jacket! I'm keeping my eye on that one! Hope it's still around once it goes on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  20. To the person asking about Crew cut sizes, well the xxl barely fits my daughter who is 11 years old,she is 4 feet plus and weighs about 60 lbs ....so the sizes really run small!! When they came out with Crew cuts even I was thinking that xxl will be Ok for me as I do wear Gap ,Target etc girls size clothing but no go at J.Crew!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks anonymous! I've been so tempted to order some things from crewcuts until now. you've saved me the trouble of the return. it's disappointing though, because some of the things are really nice, too!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, girl crewcuts runs amazingly small. Boy crewcuts run average to big on my son. If you wanted a nice 3/4 jacket or shirt or some tees, you could definitely fit in a the larger boys sizes, but girls would probably not work.
I'm wondering how that would go over if I wore the same clothes as my son ;)

  23. I adore that jacket as well! Actually, since we're talking metallics, what does everyone thin of their "whisper lame" items? Namely the button-down and the Zoey shirt? I love soft metallics, and the same button-down in basic white is one of my favorite dress shirts, so I'm very tempted by it...

    Otherwise, I'm loving:
-any of the Frances blouses (I adore the little touches like the buttons at the sleeve and chest, the ties and ruffles)
-cotton-bamboo jersy top (has anyone else noticed that j.crew is rolling out the "green" fabrics...like bamboo and hemp?)
-lilah dress (especially in that blue color!)

I'm stunned by the prices on their "basic" items. While I still love j.crew for the "classy" touches, and I will splurge on a sweater, dress, skirt, or jacket, I've been turning to cheaper (yet still well-done) brands like american apparel for the basic t's and leggings. much as i love j.crew, the prices on those items seem rather inflated.

  24. Loving the sea glass piper tank but am mad a JCrew right now...yesterday, received a bikini top instead of the bottom I ordered. The outside of the packaging said bottom but a top was inside. Also, received a silk cami with a stain on the front of the right shoulder strap. What is up with this? Both items are now sold out so I am out of luck.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jagjag2: That is the worst! I have had that happen to me several times too! (Purchase something on sale, to find a defect in the item, and ultimately find out there is nothing in my size left!)

Are you going to end up returning the top?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will probably give the top to my sister as I now have 2. I already have the exact same top and just needed the bottom. That is what bites! I thought I had a matched set. I will have to look for a bottom in a solid color to match as it is the butterfly print from last summer that was my favorite of all time. I have just about everything (if not everything) that came in that pattern: butterfly jacket, scarf, hair clip, totebag, purse with wood handles, bikni for my daughter...(we would have matched IF I HAD BEEN SENT THE RIGHT ITEM) I know matchy matchy with my daughter is not my thing really but in swimsuits-- around home....would have been fun!

I got a suit that even had a little yellow piece of tape showing a mark in the lining in Dec. I kept it b/c it didn't show as it was on the inside...but come on JCREW!

I also ordered a wool jacket in Dec. of 06 that someone had worn and returned...it had a stain on the elbow and one dirty on one cuff. That was really tacky and bad on JCrew's part!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, the Crewcuts line does run small for girls. My daughter is thin and small for her age but when she was 5 the 4-5 shirts were too small for her even! I always order a size up for her now. Not a line for petite adults...although I really liked some of their stuff for me better in April and May than the adult stuff!

  28. Auryane, I really the metallic items as well. When I first saw them online I didn't think much of them but once I saw them in person in the stores, I found that they are actually quite nice. The fabrics are beautiful. I like the zoey top as well but they are out of my size (0). Between the silver and the soft graphite, I prefer the silver. How about you? Have you seen the new metallic tunic? I love the fabric but am not am a bit disappointed with the style.

Just wondering-has anyone purchased the perfit fit tanks? They ust went on sale and are already out of my size! I had several in my bag which I planned to order but they all disappeared before I had the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have more perfect fit tanks than I care to share. What is you question?

    ReplyDelete
  30. jagjag2, I was just wondering about the fit and fabric. I wanted some good, fitted tanks. I was afraid the fabric might be too thin (and sheer), particularly with the light colors. And I don't want anything too tight and spandexy! Any insights would be great! thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  31. anonymous,

I love the zoey lame tops as well, but they're out of my size. Before I realize that, i was trying to purchase the graphite. It may just be that I don't see the silver on the model, and it looks a bit less interesting sitting by itself.

For the button-down, I purchased the "shell." The gold tone is likely to fit with more items in my wardrobe.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The JCrew perfect fit tanks are fitted. Nice and forming to the body but not too tight. I go with my usual JCrew size and do just fine. Yes, the fabric is not thick but I find the weight OK; a do tend to layer them. (I have a white, thick GAP tank just like the JCrew washed tank ones but so nice and thick and not see through but alias I bought it a very long time ago....) Also, have you tried the favorite tank with the self bra ever? I only have one but I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. jagjag2, thanks for the info on the tanks. I have not tried the shelf-bra favorite tanks because,to be honest, I'm small-chested and have no need for the shelf bra! That and the fact that the elastic feels uncomfortable to me. I was hoping that they would come up with some new tanks but they haven't...

  34. If anyone gets to see the Andy jacket in the stores can you please tell me what the gray mist color is like? Hard to tell online???? Thanks. Sadly, I no longer have one to shop near....

  35. That short film at the start of the J Crew page is DUMB!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I got bored and didn't even watch the whole thing!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jagjag2, you are so funny! I didn't even bother watching the short J.Crew film, especially since it stalls my computer. (Did they have to put it on the main page?)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love the sea glass piper tank, but why is it so expensive?? And why does it seem to fit so much better than the regular piper tank?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've got my eye on the French-strip Tie Jacket (item 94251). Although since I'm petite, those 3/4-sleeves will probably hit my wrists. Which I guess doesn't matter that much... :o)
