J.Crew Swim sale: Up to 30% off!

"Thanks!" to FabulousFloridaMommy who pointed out, in today's "Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?" post, that J.Crew is having a swim sale with up to 30% off select swim wear. :) Unfortunately, it is not clear how long the sale will last.
What I find interesting is the "Women" link from the email just takes you to the "swim" page (in medium) within the sale section of the website.

  1. The Women's link in my e-mail goes straight to Medium too! Maybe that's the most popular sizing?

Hmmm...not a lot of options for me to choose from, and I'm in need of one! I haven't bought a swimsuit in over 10 years.

I'm not a fan of bikinis because I have nothing to show off, and I don't understand the need to put metal things on a bathing suit. I might consider the tank...but I don't know about any of the bottoms. They all look like underwear to me. I must be getting old! LOL :D Maybe the Solid wide-band hipster bikini skirt? Anyone own or tried on one of those?

  2. Hi sue.bee! I do own the bikini skirt in black, and I love it! I wear it with the black padded tie-back bandeau top (which I actually purchased new with tags off of Ebay). It sits lower on the hip, but not too low and gives nice coverage over the hip/upper thigh area. When I'm at home I just wear my normal bikini bottoms, but I wear the skirt when I take my boys out to the beach or a public pool, as it gives nice coverage when chasing them around and also when bending over, as they are ages 9, 4, 2.5 years, and 15 months, so I tend to have to do alot of that. :)

  3. i just bought several items from j.crew while the additional sale was going on, but the item that i'm most coveting is the classic seersucker jacket. it's coming up as having a later ship date of 7.28.08... can people please tell me whether this is accurate? or am i just getting my hopes up for nothing? thanks!

  4. Hi Jan...most times in my experience with the waitlisted items they have shipped much earlier than the expected date that they say. BTW...my store at the Mall of Millenia in Orlando Florida had a TON of those jackets when I was there yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  5. BTW...Sorry to give all the extra added info about the ages of my boys, but I'm hoping it might be beneficial to another woman with small children who is contemplating a swimsuit...I know I personally like to get all of the extra added insight I can before making a purchase, and I think that a swimsuit is one of THE hardest, scariest decisions to have to make. ;)

  6. haha --thanks so much for your response fabulousfloridamommy! actually, i was afraid that they would simply run out/not produce the jacket anymore and tell me that i would never get this item. i'm so embarrassed by my addiction --i've been hawking the site for the matching skirt. finally got it (one size too big), but i'm hoping that i can just get it taken in. whew! it's good to know that it has come through for you. thanks again!! this site awesome.

  7. Hi Sue.Bee- I think buying a bathing suit is one of the hardest things (related to retail) for me to do. I also don't understand metal on bathing suits. I mean the metail pieces do look pretty, but when the sun shines down on them, they get super hot.

FabulousFloridaMommy- I give you a lot of gredit raising 4 kids and time to be such a beneficial part of this blog!!! Impressive. :)

Jan- I agree with FabulousFloridaMommy that most of the "waitlisted" items I had purchased came in much, much sooner than the date they provided. So chances are you will definitely get that jacket (which is very pretty) and a lot sooner too! :)

  8. Thanks Alexis...I'm very blessed to be able to stay at home full time to raise my children, so while I am still really busy, I do have moments in my day to get on the computer and visit great sites such as this one. :) I think that just because you have children and become a "30 something" doesn't mean you have to become frumpy or lose your sense of self, either.

Plus...having children in no way "squelched" my passion for shopping, clothing, etc...it just gave me more people (little ones, at that) to shop for! :)

  9. omg FFM-I am in the same boat with 3 boys- age 5 and under-and the only way I remain SANE is by shopping at Jcrew!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks for your review, FFM! I think I might get the bikini skirt after all. Unless it's sold out, then it just wasn't meant to be :o)

    ReplyDelete
  11. FabulousFloridaMommy- That is a great outlook- you have more people to shop for. Fantastic! :)

Anonymous at 1:27PM- Also impressive, raising 3 boys. Very funny about remaining "sane" with shopping at the Crew! ;)

  12. So sorry, this question isn't about swim suits but didn't know where else to ask! I've had some recent disappointments lately with colors (honey, warm citron) does anyone own anything in 'soft azalea'? It looks quite pink online and in the catalog, more purple. I've seen the model wear the Franky cami in soft azalea, looks like a purple-ish shade. Is that what it's like in person? I'm thinking about the Cashmere shrunken shawl collar sweater in that color but don't want anything too neon/fluorescent :) Thanks to all and apologies for posting in the wrong area!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous- I'm sorry I can't help, but I just wanted to say that I've hesitated buying items in soft azalea for the exact same reason... In some photos, it looks bright pink and in others it looks purple!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Anonymoust at 3:34PM and Lynn! I have seen the soft azalea in person and does come across (to me) as a very vibrant shade of pink. (Not so much purple-ish).

I totally understand though the hesitation, sometimes the catalog/online shows one color and in person it looks like something else. :)

  15. too funny, i too am a stay at home mom (of one)...jcrew totally keeps me sane!!! i tend to do more online shopping when I'm having a bad day (with a 3 1/2 year old that happens often :) )

anyway, as for bathing suits, I have the Solid halter tank top and love it and the Solid track short (which was in the sale section in some colors but I don't see in the sale section anymore). I Have tried the Solid ruched hipster short but liked the track short better - it fit me better around the legs. I have navy and it's a nice navy - not too light or dark.

It is very difficult to buy a swimsuit without trying on many. I had to order multiple sizes/styles to get the right fit. For me (and I think that someone mentioned before), the bottoms seem to run a little small. So since they're not final sale right now I would order a bunch of sizes styles if possible. I was lucky to be able to make returns at a store.

  16. Speedos! Okay here’s my prediction… Speedos are going to be hot next year or in the near future.
    J. Crew needs to make some sexy Speedos for the men's line. Ladies, be honest what do you think about Speedos? They were them in the Olympics!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Abijah: When I think of speedos it reminds me of my childhood with summers spent at the beach. One of my most vivid memories is the old (now I am talking VERY old) men in their speedos taking their early morning swim. I grew up thinking that speedos were something an athletic grandpa (like mine) would wear. LOL. My philosophy has always been, and always will be, that if you feel comfortable in something then you are going to feel confident in it AND you will probably be able to pull it off and look wonderful doing so. I also think that much of it depends on your shape. My husband is heavy so he would look rather like a marshmallow when you squish it between graham crackers when making somemores if he were to wear one!! LOL.

  18. Anonymous-

I just got the shawl cardigan in azalea and I have to say, the color is very, very pretty. Though I tend to shy away from bright colors and stick mainly to neutrals like grey, brown and black, I really like this color and look forward to wearing it. The color is vivid but definitely not neon or flourescent, nor does it look purple-ish. If you're debating over the color, I recommend giving it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed! I love this sweater!

  19. Hi All! NJN-160 is expired as of 6/15/08...glad we've got IJN-160 to take it's place.

Anonymous at 1:27pm: I feel your pain, and I TOTALLY agree about the whole J.Crew keeping you sane comment, too! ;) I do most of my shopping online now, as it's just easier than taking my boys out to the mall. :)

ccbmum: I have to laugh when I read your comment about doing more shopping when you've had a bad day, because I have done that so many times I can't even count...ESPECIALLY when I had the free shipping codes...I bought something everyday, just about.

I'm glad to see there are other "Fabulous Mommies" on here!!! :)

I'm also finding it quite interesting how J.Crew fits into so many different lifestyles. :) Now if they would just put 30 something models in the catalogs to show that J.Crew isn't just worn by the young girls. ;)

  20. RE: Timing for waitlist items, I just got an e-mail from JCrew that my smocked colorblock dress shipped on 6/13. The waitlisted delivery date given when I ordered it was 6/25.

  21. ffm: I don't know about you but I've been a JCrew fan since highschool (ugh...like 20 years...couldn't afford much back then). They used to have Lauren Hutton in the catalogs and I always thought that was so cool...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Abijah- I just don't think Speedos will catch on the states. I see them being worn all the time in Europe and Latin America, but not in the U.S. But you never know! All it takes is one retail store to carry them and the rest tend to follow. :)

THanks FabulousFloridaMommy about the code expiring. I was wondering when they would figure that out.

Congrats Ali on getting your waitlisted item sooner than expected. I always get happy when that happens to me. :)

  23. FFM-I think my UPS guy probably thinks I am CRAZY, I get something delivered from J Crew sometimes 3 and 4 days in a row!!! This week I am getting 2 packages tomorrow ( 3 patchwork bathing suits for my boys and 3 kids bday presents for a friend's triplets), and the Chessy jacket, Python print jacket and silk scarf in tropical), and then my colorblock smocked dress shipped and should be arriving on tuesday, and then I ordered the cherry blossom print blouse, the lily cardigan in punch and the striped tote in tropical ( I am going to tie the tropical scarf to the handles) yesterday morning, so that should arrive by thursday. I am NUTS but LOVE jcrew!!! and the sad thing is, I hardly go anywhere to wear all of it!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. anonymous at 2:27 PM: I feel the same way!...the UPS man must think I'm a total shopaholic with all the Jcrew packages (it's usually the same guy)...I'm expecting 2 on the same day next week. As a fellow mom, I don't get to wear my nicer Jcrew clothes that often...but when we do we'll look fabulous! ;)

  25. Does anyone have any experience with the Liv Patent Leather Flats? Comfortable? Sizing? Again, I am somewhere between a 10 and 11 in JCrew shoes.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi Marisa! I actually did a mini review of the Liv metallic ballet flats

Overall: very comfortable and true to size. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well my UPS man calls me Mrs. Christmas because I get so many J Crew packages each week. LOL. I can't help it, I just love looking fashionable even when I am at my son's baseball games. That's the great thing about J Crew...you always look so nice and put together when wearing it! Also, I am trying to figure this out, do they usually put the really good items on the sale page early in the morning? Sometimes I see lots and lots of things by 7:30 Eastern time and then by 10:30 most of it is gone (but then I might see much of it again in a few days). Any insight would be greatly appreciated. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anyone think they'll have another sale on the swim wear? I can only find mismatching sizes and colors on the tank and bikini skirt :o(

    ReplyDelete
  29. So funny, I'm the same way-I'm a stay-at-home mom with a closet full of jcrew items which I don't need and hardly get a chance to wear since I don't really go anywhere. But I rationalize all my purchases with the idea that the shopping helps with the stress and exhaustion from taking care of my two kids. Glad to hear I'm not alone!

  31. anon at 9:23 PM, yes, they update the sale section every morning at about 7 AM or so. wednesdays are when new items are added or reduced from the previous week.

  32. What's wrong with the Baja patchwork madras shorts (item 93524)? I would have thought they would have sold out by now at $29.99. I have the Medium patchwork madras Amagansett tote (item 91901) and it's really pretty. In the Towson, MD store they have a button down blouse in the same madras color, Hibiscus.

I tried the cabana bag but not sure I can deal with carrying it on my arm. The tote works well for the pool.

I'm a stayathomemom too who loved JCrew for 10+ years too. (Wish I still fit in size 4 bottoms (now size 6)! smiley

  33. Received a new coupon today:
20% off any on-line order of $175 or more
    Code: PRIVATE

    Valid through Wednesday, June 18th
Too bad they do not accept multiple coupons, would be great to get that and FS.:)

  34. NEW COUPON ALERT:

    Code: Privsale

    20% off 125.00 or more

Email states: Private Sale for a lucky few.

    Ends: June 18, 2008

    ReplyDelete
  35. awesome! thanks for the new codes :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rats, PRIVSALE won't work for me :o( It must be only for those who got the e-mail?

PRIVATE does work for me even though my purchase is under $175...interesting. At least it covers the shipping and some of the tax!

I just hope one of the swim sets fits me :o)

    ReplyDelete
  37. PRIVSALE did not work for me either but PRIVATE did! I had a large order so I saved a bundle! Thanks so much for posting the coupons! I ordered the track shorts and the hipster shorts along with a long torso skinny strap tank. I have to go conservative because I'm out of shape and would be too embarassed to sport a bikini (even in front my family). Hopefully next season...

Re: wait listed items, mine come in quicker than predicted by JCrew. I'm assuming they do that to cover themselves. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. PRIVSALE is what the email says.. weird.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My suspsicion (sp?) and trial + error w/getting "privsale" to work is that that you have to have at leat $125 worth of nonsale merch in your basket.

To be clear, when I had at least $125 of non-sale merch plus sale merch in my basket, privsale worked and took the 20% off the entire order.

    Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks Daniel & Slastena for letting us know! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Haha... I "just" got the PRIVATE code in an e-mail. I wonder how they time sending out the e-mails? Or is it just because Yahoo is sometimes slow in receiving e-mails?

Anyway, I only spent $139 before shipping & taxes and the PRIVATE code worked for me. We'll see if they kick it back to me or tell me they're not honoring the code. In that case, I'll just tack on those cute little driving mocs you guys have been raving about!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sue.Bee that is great that the PRIVATE code might work for orders above $125 and not $175! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I got the email too...mine is code PRIVATE for $175 but I'm glad to know that it might work for $125 too...I'm going to try...thanks! I wonder why some are $125 min. and some are $175??? Although I wouldn't have any trouble making it $175 if I had to ;)

  44. I wish J.Crew made hipster shorts in that flameno print. :( I love the bikini tops in that print, but am wary of wearing anything other than shorts-styles on the bottom. Alas, -sigh-

Also, is there a difference between the Antibes swim top shades than with the solid swim bottom shades? Because the Antibes bikini bottoms cost $4 more than the solid bikini bottoms, and the styles look exactly the same. Just wondering!

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's great to see so many stay at home mom's on here that obsess and shop J.Crew like I do, and even with really not having anywhere to go to wear the clothes, either...so glad to know I'm not the only one! GRIN

    ReplyDelete
  46. FFM: hee hee, now that I'm a mom and go "out" so infrequently, i am able to have a different outfit every time! I have so many items waiting in my closet with tags on still. i don't mind buying those nicer pieces at jcrew because i know that they will stand the test of time (except for some items like those men's paisley pants of course)...

amy: i think the Antibes swim shades are different and they have differen't names i.e. "navy" vs. "brilliant navy". they are also made of different materials so they might not match that well...you could call cust. to find out for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  47. oops, meant to say "cust. service" in my above post...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi ccbmum: I too have many pieces in my closet with the tags still on, just waiting for the perfect occasion to wear them! Though I must say that I have learned in the past few years to pick up stylish "everyday" pieces that I don't mind getting a possible stain on, or wearing out quicker than my "going out" pieces. I have been purchasing (and yes...wearing on a daily basis)the Jackie Shells, Ringspun Cotton Tees, Ringspun Cotton Femme Tops, Perfect Fit Tanks, Bermuda Shorts, Clamdiggers, and Crop Pants for my more casual staying at home, going to the park, and running errand pieces. I try to pick them up when they go on sale and then I don't feel as bad if they get ruined, and at the same time...I can still remain stylish and "unfrumpy" in my normal day to day life. :) The slub cotton wrap front tank seen here Slub-Cotton Wrap Tank is super cute for day to day with crop pants or bermuda shorts...it's dreamy to wear, too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. ffm: yep, i have many ringspun cotton tees (those are my favorite), perfect fit tees, tissue tees... and oh so many cardigans...

    ReplyDelete
  50. speaking of great t-shirts, the stores out here (san francisco bay area) have some great t's in now...ones that aren't online. i'm a sucker for a great graphic slub t...and will even pay the outrageous full price for them!!! i make sure not to let those ones get trashed :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. ccbmum: that sounds great about the t's...I'll be sure to check my store today...it might have them since I am in Florida, and it is a "casual dressing" state just like CA. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey, I noticed that none of the swimsuits this year are padded. Do you know if they will be adding some of their padded swimsuits to the mix? I know the other swimsuits are double lined, but I'm worried they would be see-through, especially when wet....
