J.Crew: Website's Going to Come Back

Woke up and found this note on their website (at 6:45AM EST). Hopefully J.Crew's website will be online and functional soon! :)

Also, what does "new and improved j.crew.com" mean? Sounds exciting! (...Although, now that I think of it: what happens if they remove all the older links that we back search for? I hope they don't "update" the website for the worse. Now I am worried.)

  1. I have been on vaca all week with no computer and was excited to go onto the site this morning and it's not available!! I wonder what's going on??

  2. FabulousFloridaMommy mentioned in the Bring on the Belts J. Crew! post the following: "J.Crew updating the site...the CS Rep told me yesterday that today they are switching their computers over to an entirely new system...not sure what that means for us...she just said it will be alot easier for them, but didn't go into much more detail. :) "

  3. Anonymous at 7:03AM: That's awful- You are away for the week and on the day you can check the site out, the site is down. I am hoping it comes online soon. :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hi Alexis! I was just going to repost that on here...you beat me to it! ;) I also hope they don't do away with the links...that would be really devastating!

    ReplyDelete
  5. FabulousFloridaMommy: Thanks for letting us know about the switching over. :) I also really hope that in order to "improve" their site they won't start taking away some of the "functionality" that we use to seek out certain items not present in the main links.

  6. When they shut the site down a couple of days ago to "update"---the coupon code I had previously used twice suddenly stopped working with the message "you can no longer apply this code to your order." It was still a valid code, and it worked (hadn't checked out, but tested the code) prior to the site's maintanance. It stopped me from getting the metallic bow belt at crewcuts for 14.99 (I really want the silver, but the price was enough at that moment to make me cave) :)

  7. Also, I can't believe I'm not the only one up this early on a Saturday (and checking J.Crew) :)

My 4 year old is an early bird---has *never* slept in. When my J.Crew addiction started about a year ago, it made me actually not mind the fact that I was forced to be awake at an obsene time each morning.... (He's gotten better---but it used to be more like 5am) Leave it to J.Crew to bring out the "cup is half full" in me! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oops! Sorry---excuse the spelling typo. Too early!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Josie: Interesting story about the last time they updated. I really hope they aren't going to change the coupon system either (e.g. expire coupons when they should work or apply one code per customer like Gap does).

Also, sadly, there are probably lots of us who woke up early just to check their website (like me!) At least your 4-year old's schedule can help justify your earliness in checking the site! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  10. From reading comments on previous posts...it appears as if the "maintenance" has been going on since about midnight last night, which would make sense on if they are "revamping" their computer systems...seems like it would take a good amount of time.

josie: I also have a house full of "early birds"...I am usually up by 5 or 6 am, just to get a head start on my day (cup of coffee, emails, Alexis' blog, J.Crew.com, etc) before they get up and the house goes "crazy". ;) You are not alone!

  11. Maybe that's why they've sent us to the stores with the "additional 25% off" message - to keep us away from the website for a while! :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is really affecting my morning routine of checking the sale stuff to see if the pepper heels have magically appeared overnight in a size 7 in the limey green.

    ReplyDelete
  13. silver_lining: GREAT THINKING about the In-store coupon...that really makes alot of sense! Hope it doesn't mean .com will be down all weekend...they WOULDN'T do that to us...would they?

pink1: I know what you mean by affecting your morning routine...I don't even plan to buy anything, but still check the sale everyday, because "you just never know". :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Silver_Lining: Excellent point! Maybe they were trying to distract us for awhile. ;)

Pink1: I know what you are saying. I keep refreshing the page to see when it will come back- causing me to mess up my schedule (since I would have already checked the sale out by now and moved on with my day.) :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh by the way....my store was doing major markdowns while I was there yesterday. All sale stuff was 25% off. My mom hit the jackpot....we added it up....she got over $400 of stuff for $170.

  16. This really throws my morning off... Hope it's back up soon. But if not, I'm off to the mall this morning anyways.

Question: I have in my possession 2 new bags that I haven't seen on the website. As soon as I walked into J Crew last week, they were pulling them out of the boxes and fell in love IMMEDIATELY. So I got 2 :) I'd love to do a review, how do I submit it.

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jacqui: Congrats on the bags! I would love to have you review them as well. :) Just send me your review to: jcrewaficionada@yahoo.com. Thanks!

  18. I know there has been alot of talk about listing J.Crew items we are interested in selling, and I have several that I no longer have use for, but don't want to "bog" down Alexis' site with the details. If you are interested in seeing them, please click Here ...I have set up a blog called FFMsList where I have posted them. You can email me if you are interested. :)

Alexis: I know you had "ok'd" this in earlier posts...is it still ok? If not...I will just remove this post, but if it's ok, then I will leave it, and maybe put it on a couple of previous posts, as well?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi FabulousFloridaMommy: Thanks for re-checking with me (you didn't have to). :) I think it is a great idea to have the link to your blog while I can find a third party site. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Since 4:15a.m. I am totally tripping that the site is down! I can now officially declare myself an addict. What fun ; )

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks Alexis...I always like to check with you, since this IS your blog! ;) I am getting ready to list all of the items on Ebay, but wanted to give everyone here first "dibs", especially since there had been so much talk about the Elizabeth Halter and Emily Blouse. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wonder if the items in my shopping bag are going to disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey I don't know if someone has posted this yet, so sorry if its a duplicate. But I got an email yesterday and JCrew instore only is 25% off this weekend again. I went into my local store yesterday (Ann Arbor, MI) and they had a TON of new stuff on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I went to the site at 11:15 EST last night (Fri) and the site was down. :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow msm...I didn't know it was even earlier than midnight...still down at 10:11am, too...bummer!

FYI...I made a couple of edits to the FFMsList, so you may want to re-visit (if you have already), and I will try to add pics later, too! :)

Ironically, my husband will be doing "maintenance" on my computer a little later today, too (needs a new hard drive), but I will be back on and checking emails, blogs, and of course JCrew.com as soon as it is up and running again...hopefully sooner than later. :) (I HATE being without a computer!)

  26. URGH! I was hoping to jump on this morning to add to my purchase last night but now I can't!

I was able to scoop up a Cherry Blossom Frances Blouse yesterday. I own the Solid Frances in the True Aqua and the White and love them both but I'm not sure about the Cherry Blossom print. Does anyone own one? Is it loud? Do you like it?

I was also able to pick up the Dark Chambray skirt in an 8. I previously purchased a 4 and it didn't give me the look I wanted. I'm hoping the 8 would.

I was on the wait-list for the Brilliant Blue Candace and that wasn't supposed to ship until July 15. But I was able to pick one up yesterday. I don't get that at all. You'd think that they would give the returns to wait-listers. Go figure.

And lastly, I was able to pick up the Featherweight Merino Scoop Neck Top in the Orange to wear with my Papaya Rubgy Taffeta Skirt. Now let's just hope the skirt fits.

I was originally going to be ordering all this online and was able to add them to my basket without the "Final Sale" comment on them. I then had to call to speak with a CSR about measurements and asked her if the items in my basket would be considered NON-Final Sale and she said that everything ending in .99 is considered Final Sale. Has anyone else experienced this? Since everything was final sale, I just went ahead and placed my order with her. I hope everything fits.

Anyway, back to my cherry blossom Frances, if someone has tried this on, seen it in person or owns this, I would love to hear your opinion on it. Thank you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's going to be awesome. I'll leave it at that. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have the Frances blouse in cherry blossom and I love it. The print is very pretty without being at all loud. I also have it in true aqua which I like as well but my favorite is definitely the cherry blossom. I'm sure you'll love it too!

    ReplyDelete
  29. To all those who have the rugby taffeta skirt, how does it fit? I am worried it is too full - I generally much prefer pencil skirts. I'm not heavy, but I don't like a lot of added volume at the hips...on the other hand, the papaya rugby skirt looks so great in the pics, I keep being tempted to buy it. If anyone has any opinions/feedback, I'd love to hear it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I also had the experience of ordering items ending in .99, and the CSR told me that they were not returnable/final sale even though the website did not list them as final sale at the time that I ordered them. Has anyone else experienced this?

  32. I love the Frances blouse! I have the Frances blouse in Cherry blossom, True Aqua, Sour Lime, and black floral. My fave is still the black floral but the cherry blossom isn't loud at all. The good thing is that with non-solids, the blouse isn't that sheer. The Cherry blossom is selling for 100 bucks a pop on Ebay up to a week ago. It seems highly coveted, based on the ebay prices of all the different Frances blouses out there on Ebay. Good buy!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi. I have the Tafetta Rugby skirt in papaya. I usually wear size 2, but 4 was the only one available during final sale so I grabbed it anyway. Size 4 fits more low slung on my hips but I don't care. It's BEAUTIFUL! Yes, it's a full skirt - but not overly full IMHO. It's actually pleated/gathered in two small areas in the back and front. With a tight top/shrunken cardigan/jacket, it looks great. I'm not selling this one on Ebay!

  34. The suspense is killing me...I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a toddler AND a J.Crew morning routine. Yesterday morning, I snagged a Fiona jacket in pale almond - just what I've been eyeing for months!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have used links to get to non-final sale items and the items arrived with the usual packing lists. They don't say final items, and I can return them - although the prices end with .99.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You'll love the fiona jacket! I have it in white and love it but have only worn it once because I'm so afraid I'll get it dirty with two little boys running around with me all day.

    ReplyDelete
  37. hmmm...having a toddler and a jcrew addiction seem to go hand in hand! too funny! glad to know i'm not the only one...this is like therapy! :) i hope the web comes back soon...i missed my morning fix also!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tks for the vote of confidence on the Fiona jacket. Hope I get more wear out of mine....I have a two year old girl...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have many items to return and am slightly embarrassed to do it at the store (and possibly encounter DH's raised eyebrows and impatient toddler). Has anyone had experience returning stuff by mail? Using the prepaid UPS label? I know jcrew will deduct $5.95 for one item and $7.95 for two or more items. Tks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. On my updated website wish list: the ability to search by specific sizes, like the search on BR's sale pages. Kind of frustrating to see all the awesome sale shoes, then click to find out none are available in my size...

    ReplyDelete
  41. I return stuff by the mail all the time. I prefer it as it only costs $7.95 for as many items as you want to return. What a bargain...plus, I can't stand waiting around for a salesclerk to type in the info. etc. Time is money in my book and I love the easy of dropping the box off and letting the mailman take care of it. Been returning this way for 6 years...no problems.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For those who loves Frances Blouse, you may want to check with your local store. I just came back from mine in Raleigh, NC. They have Cherry Blossom Frances Blouse for $39.99 plus 25% off and both True Aqua and the White for $19.99 each before 25% off. Also the Madra Jacket is marked down from $150 to $49.99 before 25% off. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  43. anonymous@3:16

Thank you! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who adores the Frances blouse.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous at 3:16pm, I'm soooo envious! The nearest J Crew is a 6 hour drive for me! Woe is me! But I'm happy for you and those who have a jcrew near you.

I tried calling their customer service number and they're also closed. I wonder when they'll be up and running again.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I do so love this blog--- It makes me feel much more "normal" LOL---I too sometimes return by mail if I have large number of items simply because I'm too embarassed to go into the store. They are always very nice to me, but I can't help thinking that they think "Oh, here comes that online sale shopper with her jcrew box again..." when I walk in. As cheap as I am, the $7.00 is sometimes worth saving me the embarassement! LOL

Anyways, since the site is down and my hubby has the kids at baseball, I did a little online shopping and thought I'd share a good deal on a cute JCrew'esque pair of flats. Free shipping/free returns so there's no risk. The yummy colors will go great with many of our Summer sale finds!

Sorry the link is so long---I've got to figure out how to do a proper link like you all do!

  46. I hope they fix the bug (or is it a "feature"?) that doesn't hold items in your cart for you. It has happened to me that I'll place things in my cart, and when I go to checkout something is gone. I called customer service, and they said yeah, that happens a lot - the system doesn't hold items when you place them in your cart, so if quantities are low, someone can come along and buy your items right out from under you. The CSR said there was "nothing they could do" about that, and that "hopefully they would get a new system."

I am also curious about why quantities change on a daily basis. Something that is sold out today might be readily available tomorrow in many different sizes and colors. Is that a tactic on J.Crew's part? Bizarre!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was in a store today and wanted to return a few things. They said the system would be down until 5pm and that they would process all of the returns then. So hopefully the website will be up in just a few minutes (it is 4:55 now!)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Michelle- The first person to check out and pay for the item gets it, which makes sense. Someone could hold an item in their cart for days and never purchase it. They ARE a business.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Are returns by mail still only $7 if you return items from multiple orders? It might be worthwhile to save me some embarrassment. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes, you can return multiple orders (just be organized about how you do it so you get credit for all items) and you'll get charged the $7.00 rate. I've done it many times after calling to check with CS.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I realize that J.Crew is a business, but as a customer it would be nice if they gave you some time to finalize your purchase before taking your things and putting them back on the "virtual shelf." I know that many other websites have sessions during which they hold merchandise that a customer places in the cart, and then when the session expires, say after an hour or so, if the customer hasn't purchased the items in their cart the items get placed into general circulation again. It's just a courtesy, especially when it allows customers time to look for more items to purchase. In the end, it only benefits J.Crew.

The reason I came back though was to say that my Katie sweat in geranium just arrived, and I LOVE it! At first I was afraid that the color was too bright, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks on me. I usually gravitate towards navy, and I wanted to do that with this sweater, but I went outside my comfort zone and I am glad I did. I got the Katie sweater based on the advice I found here, so I am very grateful to all you wonderful posters out there! Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Michelle, that is awesome that you love the geranium color! I have the Katie sweater in navy - I like geranium, also, but I needed something to wear with my navy skirt. Underneath, I got the silk habotai tie-front shirt in soft azalea, which totally matches the sandals I wear with the outfit.

I just love the Katie sweater jacket. To me, it looks so Chanel, for far less $$$ :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. la belle helene - I love that you analogized the Katie sweater to Chanel! I totally agree, it's gorgeous ... I was actually just trolling around eBay trying to find it in navy, or really any color I could find in a small, haha.

  55. Rach-
    How do you know?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I do have to agree with Anon at 4:55pm. I would HATE it if J.Crew started holding items for people in their shopping carts. As many items as you've missed out on by them disappearing from your shopping cart, think of how many more you would lose out on the opportunity to buy because they are being held for others!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have a question for those people who have the Frances blouse. What do you do with the ties? Do you tie them, or leave them hanging open? I scored a Frances blouse in the cherry print at the store today (!), but am not quite sure what to do about the ties. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  58. josie: LOVE the shoes, and Endless.com...I've been shopping there since the beginning of 2007 and they are AWESOME! Last year they actually PAID you $5 to ship the shoes OVERNITE! Shopping with them is instant gratification, as far as online shopping goes, as you get your shoes the next morning, and the shipping is FREE!!! *Take note J.Crew*

    ReplyDelete
  63. Get your fix at http://www.shopstyle.com/browse/J.Crew

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh I'm liking how they organize the sale section =)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I hate the new j crew site. The sale site looks like the ann talor sale site. Its anoying! I liked to the old one better.

However I went to the store today. I bought the toulon ballet flats in hot pink for 65 bucks (educators discount, plus 25% off plus a $25 off 150 or more). I bought the baja madras skirt and the brush stroke top (runs big) and a head band. It was a good J Crew day.

My friend and I bought 300 dollars worth of merchandise (at the sale price) and we only spent 200 on it... amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  66. i hate new J.Crew site! "Add to Bag" bottom does not work! How can we buy items...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Seems like it's still a work in progress. I got so excited when I saw the Kate dress on sale for $19.99 but when I went to click on the item to buy it was regular price =(

    ReplyDelete
  68. Does everyone can add item to bag? I click "Add to bag" botton, it does not work...am I the only one who can not place the order? Or everyone has the same issue?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm not having any problems with adding items or viewing items in my shopping cart

    ReplyDelete
  70. I can add items but I can't check out!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm going through check out now and it is very very slow and its not letting me use coupon codes.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I managed to check out!! many items now available again in my size. Yayyyy!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Did you use any of the free shipping coupon codes?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can not add item to bag yet...

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes, slow but my coupon went through, no problem. i love that i get 20 mins to change or cancel my order - it even shows the minutes left ticking away.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I like how they organized the sale section. You can search by a specific item, size and color. I also like the zoom feature!!

Does anyone know if the coupons are working??

    ReplyDelete
  77. So many prices say sale but when you click to buy, it shows regular prices.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yes, the free shipping NJY-150 works.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I am finding that if I refine search criteria (like my size for example) in the sale section, some items don't show up which come up if you search without the criteria (in your size!). Very frustrating! A positive - now you can search by keyword!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yes! Everything went through..now I can sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  81. First my order goes into "submitted", after 20 mins, it's "releasable". Ha. And to go back to the previous page, you have to click twice.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I especially love having my full order details displayed under my account - not only I can see the status, but it tells me exactly how much was charged to my card - AND the pictures of the items in my order!!

    BUT I still can't sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I also like how they have more pictures of the items, especially the models wearing it, for the sale section.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes, that beats having to google the item to find out how the item actually looks on a model!

    ReplyDelete
  85. How can you place the order under new system? I am still struggling with "Add to bag" botton...I can not place order. Also, "shopping bag" botton does not work either. I am very frustrated...Can everyone place orders without any problems?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hi. I just placed an order and used the free shipping coupon. No problem. But the Kate dress is still full price when you click on it. So you have to call CS and add it ($19.99) quickly right after you place your order.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anony,
How do you like the JCrew's in the Raleigh/Durham area? I am moving to the area soon so just curious on your take...Thanks:)

    ReplyDelete
  88. The new site is organized sort of like Ann Taylor's. That's funny; a while back I kept telling them in my post-purchase surveys that Ann Taylor had a better-organized site. But I'm sure that's not why they redesigned it this way.

    ReplyDelete
  89. First impression: hate it! This is probably because I have my sale shopping down to a system (like most others here) because you have to move fast before items disappear. Boo! (I'm sure this will change once I get used to it!)

    ReplyDelete
  90. anonymous 4:20...
Which color Kate dress did you get adjusted for $19.99? The black or deep persimmon? Or would they only adjust the flame and blue?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Is anyone else having problems clicking on random items and the page pops up and says "We are unable to process your request at this time. Please try a little later"?

Also, in the sale section, when I search by size, half the things that pop up aren't left in my size!

    ReplyDelete
  92. To Anonymous who wants to know better about Raleigh/Durham Jcrew stores, I like Raleigh store better. The price marks are more clear for sale items in Raleigh than in Durham store. There are more SAs walking around the floor in Durham store and some of them never smile. Hope you will enjoy shopping in both stores.
