Regular: $395.00

Let me start off by saying that I think this bag is gorgeous. Love, love, love it! :) Luckily for us, Nicole R. not only purchased this (beautiful) bag, but also shared with us her opinion/review. I thought it was worth making its own post, (because I really like the purse!)

The following is a portion of her quote from her post (in the "What do you pay full retail for?" post) :
Ladies and Gents--it came in the mail and it is WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! ...It is made by Borge Garveri who makes the Birkin bag for Hermes (I also have the Uptown bag and I had done research on Borge). The leather is buttery soft and incredible quality. I had been eying the YSL Mombasa Bag with the horn handle and YSL wanted $1200! Compared to the plastic LV, YSL, Kate Spade bags in the $300-500 range you are getting a great deal.

The CSR told me that it was an beautiful in person and only 60 were made in each color. I purchased the pumpkim-brown color since I felt that it worked best with what I have in my closet. Even if I did not have the PRIVATE 20%--- I most definitely would have bought it. It does come with a duster bag and carelfully double wrapped in plastic when shipped.
If you own the Owen Hobo, please share with us your experience. We would love to know more! And again: thank you to "Nicole R." for sharing with us your experience! :)

  1. No matter how beautiful a bag or the quality of leather there is no way I would ever pay that much for a bag.....clothing yes...accessories no.....just me:)

  2. Anonymous at 7:36 AM: I hear where you are coming from. :) To be honest, the most I spent on a bag is probably $150. I have spent a lot more than that on pieces of clothing (e.g. winter coats, wedding dress).

However, I can understand spending $3-400 on accessories since they can be worn almost everyday whereas clothes can only be worn in rotation. :)

  3. Anon: I agree with you-- believe me thus was not a spur of the moment purchase. The most I have ever spent for a bag prior to this was $250 for a small LV (back in my single days! ;)) so I definitely hear you! With that said, by doing my homework on what else is out there--- Coach fabric bags at $200+ I felt it was leather worth it and especially the same company that does a $7500 bag for Hermes-- but that is just me! :)

On another note, I read an article about the "candy tweed" suit that J. Crew had early this past spring-- it was the same fabric Chanel used for a $1000 suit!

It sounds as though these limited collection pieces allow "the average Jane" to have similar stuff celebs can afford-- but it is not for everyone.

  4. Thank you so much for the review! I was on the fence yesterday, but I went ahead and ordered it after your reassurances. It is supposed to ship on August 18th! I can't wait!

  5. nicole r.: I think you raised a good point about their limited collection pieces using the same suppliers/makers as the designer labels, but offering those pieces at a fraction of designer costs. :)

AprilDi: Congrats on your Owen Hobo! Please let us know how it works out for you. :)

  6. Anon: I feel you are right! I do have a friend who worked for coach and another one who works there now so they get me stuff when I beg nicely enough but. Yea its hard to justify! But I like j crews bags sometimes better than coaches, they are more interesting. Now why cant my designer friends work for J crew???? I mean RL and Coach are great and all but really... J Crew is so much better! But 350 is a lot and I can justify it more on a bigger bag.

  8. I really like this bag, but I don't think I used a purse often enough to justify buying one so expensive. It is beautiful, though, and I wonder if they will come out with other colors and textures (suede, or a metallic leather??) as the season progresses.

  9. Alexis, Yes, my max for a bag is about $150 too.

blumre, you are lucky to have friends that work at Coach and thanks for understanding my opinion. I am not trying to be negative:) Just my feelings.....

www.radley.co.uk has beautiful unique bags for people who like bags! They have great sales too....the quality is out of this world too......

  10. nicole r.: I ordered this bag in the Champagne color and it is due in mid-August. I have gone back and forth over the colors (I have two boys so lighter colored things usually end up with some sort of mark on them!!) as I love them both! I in addition to the Owen (when it arrives) I have three LV bags of varying sizes, the Chirstian Dior Gaucho bag in black, and a metallic silver Chloe. I also have a J Crew bag from three seasons ago which is still fabulous! I justify the $$$ because they are used on a daily basis year round and I literally carry everything in them. Years ago I would never have spent even $150 on a bag and I TOTALLY agree with those who won't. Almost all of mine have been gifts from my husband (who is not very creative in the "gift giving" department...lol). All that being said, congrats on your purchase!! Enjoy!

  11. Anon 10:22 (jcrew junkie): I was torn over what color to get--- I love the Champagne color-- but given my lifestyle- I often take the subway/trains/planes and I always seem to be standing next to the person with a full cup of coffee! ;)

I was lucky enough to by a beautiful Dior snakeskin wallet at Century 21 on sale-- so it seems as though we have similar taste....

I am in now way a LV, CD, Gucci "whore" (sorry for using bad language Alexis! :)) --- I mostly admire from afar, and randomly find a steal of a deal!

  12. Wow, you people make me feel bad :o) I've dropped $900+ on a Ferragamo purse and $400 on a Bottega Veneta. They were on sale of course as I rarely pay full price on anything.

But I figure these purses will last me a long time because of the quality of the leather, the design, and I take care of my things. And I don't spend much on clothes and shoes during the year compared to most women :o)

Anyway, the Owen Hobo is cute, but I prefer purses with zippers...you never know when your stuff my accidentally spill out. I'm also paranoid about purse snatchers and pickpockets, so zippers offer me a little bit of security.

  13. The owen bag is absolutely lovely, and I am definitely tempted, especially since it's such a classy shape. However, like sue.bee, I need a zipper...I'm a klutz, and liable to trip over myself and send my bag flying. The size is also an issue for me: I prefer smaller bags for everyday use (to carry my phone, a book, sunglasses, keys, wallet, etc)...or bags that are nearly messenger/bookbag size, which can also fit my (small) laptop and a hardcover book or two. The Owen is just in between those two sizes, so it's not very efficient for me.

Nicole--thanks for sharing your research! I will keep definitely be keeping an eye on jcrew for a future bag...

  14. Congrats on your new bag, Nicole R.! I personally LOVE handbags...especially LARGE ones, and don't mind paying more for them or for shoes, either. ; The Owen bag looks Fabulous! I love the Terra Cotta color...one of my Coach bags is a similar color, and I carry it the most out of all my bags. You definitely got a FANTASTIC deal on this one! ENJOY!!!! :)

  15. Oh yeh, I forgot to mention...the Hobo style is FAB...it's my favorite kind of handbag. :)

  16. Anonymous at 9:37AM: Those Radley bags are gorgeous and adorable! Thanks for sharing the site!! :)

JCrewJunkie: First congrats on your bag! Second, please let us know how it works out when you get it. :)

Sue.Bee: I agree that bags & accessories have a long life. Some (designer) bags actual increase in value as years go by. :)

  17. nicole r:
first off...LOVE the bag! unfortunately i already have a coach hobo bag which is similar so i have no business buying another one! ;). mine was somewhere around $300 dollars and i'm sure there are many many of them walking around. the fact that there are so few of the owen being made makes it much more special and fabulous...congrats!

are you able to wear it on your shoulder though? it looks like the hard handle might not be comfortable...not that it really matters though since it looks so fabulous! :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. CCBMum: YES, it does fit on your shoulder! :) While I have not used the bag yet, I did try it on and it seems to fit nicely and it does not seem to annoy. I know someone mentioned about the zipper-- have the magnet "clasp" and the ability to wear it over the shoulder does give me peace of mind that it is not easy to pickpocket. :)
