{Yey!} Summer Sale again with 20% off

It's that wonderful time that I always look forward to: when J.Crew offers 20% off its sale merchandise. The 20% discount lasts until 6/13/08. Not a lot of days, but certainly something!

  1. Is it just me or are they having a lot more of these than in past years???

    ReplyDelete
  2. Way more! I couldn't agree more with you on this one Jagjag2. :)

J.Crew probably has a lot of extra stock in stores and are just pushing it out when they can.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks for letting me know you think so too. I swear they used to have-- say-- one of these per season-- not 2-3 a month!

What are you eyeing? or did you already buy something this morning!

  4. Hi, I envy you who live on the East coast... Here on the West coast, I have to wake up at 3:45am to get the best of sales! The early bird cathes sales:)

    ReplyDelete
  5. OK Anonymous, you are definitly more JCrew crazy than me! I wouldn't even consider getting out of my bed at 5:45 when I lived in MN let alone 3:45. I highly value sleep! One good thing about living in the UK....no stores but it's 11:45 am here when the update goes through:)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anonymous, oh my goodness! I thought I was the only crazy one who set my alarm for 3:45 on sale days! But you're absolutely right- it is the only way to get the good deals, things are always disappearing from my shopping cart! I just ordered the Corinne sweater jacket for $40, Kensington shirt for $16, and the Camilla jacket for $24! So exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jagjag2, Thank you for your kind comments. Now I feel my efforts were rewarded. By the way, if you purchase J.Crew from UK, how does taxes work? (I hope you don't have to pay taxes to US!)

    ReplyDelete
  8. For Anonymous 7:38am: Congrats on your great purchases! I am glad to know that I am not the only one:) - another Anonymous on the West Coast

  9. The more J.Crew offers 20% additional sales, the more I get sleepy... But I am happy:) - Sleepless Anonymous on West Coast

  10. I can totally relate-I'm almost relieved that the sales don't last more than a few days so I don't feel compelled to wake up so early. But then once the sale is over, I can't wait until the next one comes along! J.Crew junkie...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have my purchases sent to various family and friends in the US like JCrew customer service told me too. They do not ship overseas except to Japan. I am a US citizen just living here for a short time. Family and friends come often to visit. We have a guest house and its great!

  12. I just wanted to share my experience with J.Crew customer service this am. I was waitlisted for the Valencia short sleeve cardigan in an XS for 59.99 and they are showing it in a S for the 20% off price. I got right on the phone and asked J.Crew to swap them out (S was not available when I ordered orriginally). Even though my XS was on the truck already, she sent out she S with free shipping. Even with the 5.95 return shipping, I'll still come out ahead and with the size I really wanted!

Now if they could only find the solid twist front padded bandeau M in Black!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Does this sale include in-store items too? I'm headed there tonight to return one of the suit skirts I ordered...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Laverte, How did you manage to get free shipping? Did you just ask or did they offer? I can't imagine how lucky you were....I wanted the 10 in a jacket and settled for the 8 a few days ago and the 10 was up this morning but I didn't even try....

    ReplyDelete
  15. Every store is different Sue Bee....give them a call and see....I know in MN they NEVER had an online extra % sale and a store extra % sale at the same time....store manager said they tend to swap weeks...one week online, store the next...

    ReplyDelete
  16. jagjag2- I did just ask. When she (Brandy) said that she could ship the S for me to return the XS, I paused, then said, would I have to pay shipping on the S? Right away the reply was No. That sealed the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm thinking about calling back and having them add the bandeau top I want in a Small. Just so I have something, esp. since its free shipping :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. jagjag, that's interesting. When our local store was open, I was told by the manager that if something was on sale online, they would honor the price in store. Maybe she was just trying to push merchandise?

I seriously must have missed all the good stuff already :( But, I do see that the favorite fit chinos are on sale. I can never have enough chinos...

    ReplyDelete
  19. no, it's true: if you're in-store, they will honor on-line prices if they're lower.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi sue.bee! Whenever I know of a specific item I want...I call to my store to see if they carry it, and if so, I ask for them to check if it is in my size and also what the price is. If they do have what I want I ask them to hold it for me, and that insures it won't get sold before I get there. I have seen numerous items marked down lower in the store than online, but I think it just depends on the store as to what the discount is.

    ReplyDelete
  21. There is an OBVIOUS confusion. I am not talking about honoring online prices in store.....I was talking about a general all sale merchandise on sale with an extra % off in store as that is what the question was asking! The store carries items that are not online, etc. that would not qualify...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Also, I NEVER count on a store employee holding an item for me. Been there done that and the item is not on hold when I get there....

    ReplyDelete
  23. WOW!!! That is great to know about them honoring online prices in the store...I will have to keep that in mind when I go this week.

jagjag2: that's too bad about the employees not holding your items for you...I have never had that happen, and I do it all the time. The employees at my store are great...especially the managers.

BTW...what do you need to show in order to get the teacher discount?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh yeh...the teacher discount question was for everyone. :) Does anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'll just find out when I get to the store tonight whether or not they're also having an extra 20% off.

I doubt they'll hold anything for me at that store, too. The young'uns that work there aren't the nicest employees... but then again, the store is in Dallas. Explains a lot! Hee :o)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Some proof like a pay stub or a copy of your teaching certificate/credentials. some form of proof that you are an educator.

The worst was when this one guy-that I did trust at my local JCrew- held a dress for me and I went in a day later (he wasn't working) and this other employee who was so ditzy and I mean that truthfully (poor thing) wouldn't even give/sell me my dress even though it had my name on it until she checked with a higher up.....I was about ready to pull my hair out! She said it was a "hot" dress and needed to be sure....AHHH! Why do things like that happen only when you are in a hurry?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I also had a good customer service experience today! Last night I ordered the polka dot lana top and the marina strip dress, only a couple of hours before the 20% of sale started. I called J Crew this morning and they gave me 20% off the items!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jagjag2-there's no confusion here, you're the one who's OBVIOUSLY being rude. And I agree with Fabulousfloridamommy, I've never had a problem with holding items, the associates are great where I shop, especially since I am regular. As for the teacher discount, I checked and all you need to show is an ID.

    ReplyDelete
  29. JCrew is down. They are rolling updates. So only a certain amount of people can be on server at a time. Just refresh and it will eventually let you in when someone exits there browser :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. I put through an order yesterday, and called in today with the 20% off, and the customer service rep I spoke to was able to give me the add'l 20% off. Love the customer service at Jcrew!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I noticed that they removed a bunch of items from their sale page so that the 20% doesn't apply. For example, the bermuda shorts used to be on the page. They are still on sale, but the 20% doesn't apply :-( Same goes with the vineyard flip flops I am ordering.

    I love your blog! Thanks!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah... Jcrew always removes the juicy stuff with the extra 20% off.. and then put it back in the sale after the extra 20% promo ends. Sometimes they move these items with the regular stuff during the extra 20 promo.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was a regular where I shopped too but I can't help stating the TRUTH being that they don't always hold items. I got lots of special treatment b/c I had several friends who worked in the stores but they moved from local to local and weren't always available....

I am sorry but since there was a personal attack by someone who can't even sign in with a name I will no longer be contributing to this blog. Life is too short.

Best of luck shopping everyone else who has answered my questions and been oh so kind.

    ReplyDelete
  34. whooo ladies its clothes. simmer down now. But if you do write something and many others have not expierenced that... chances are you will be ridiculed. JCrew has a policy of holding clothes for 1 day. So, if you cann at like 8pm at night chances are the next morning.. that morning shift will assume it was from earlier in the day and put it back. That could be poxssible. Also, they do honor sale prices online to store and store to online. NEAT!

    ReplyDelete
  35. so if an item is cheaper in store than online, you can order it from online and they will price match??

I'm curious b/c Alexis found the Cashmere Argyle Ruffled Cardigan for $20 in store vs. $119 in the sale section online.

    ReplyDelete
  36. to a: Yes, I have done that before. I called the 800 number, told them that I saw the item in the store for a cheaper price, they put me on hold and called that store to verify and then price adjusted...it took a while for it to show up on my credit card though :) Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why oh why do they charge so much in shipping?? $10.50 to ship $55 worth of merch is highway robbery.

They need to figure it out... I'd order more often if I could get free shipping -- without having to spend $150!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks CCBmum! I just called into a jcrew store to see if the prices were any different from the website, and for the items I had ordered, they weren't. I wish I had known we could do this before! there were a couple of other things that I had wanted to get!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks SO much for this alert. This plus free S&H makes it too irresistable!

    ReplyDelete
  40. First -- I'm glad I found this blog and therefore the shipping codes. I was bothered that J.Crew had them removed from other sites.

Second -- yay for this sale! A bout of insomnia turned out to be a good thing last night, as I ended up shopping! I ordered a lot of things -- a couple of the Joelle blouses (already have one and like it, so got it in other colors), some day dresses, the Zoey metallic dress, and the python-print Lucia jacket ($55). I also ordered the python mini skirt for $23, obviously not to be worn with the jacket! The day dresses (I ordered about 4) were all about $30 each -- I really hope they fit and look cute.

    ReplyDelete
  41. anonymous, do you also have the Joelle cami? I love the Joelle cami but have been hesitant about the blouse. What do you love in particular about the blouse?

    ReplyDelete
  42. if you have a JCrew card it takes about a day to change the price... if you see something in store and its cheaper online or if they are out of sizes in store but its like a buy 2 for a certain price deal. You can use the "red" phone to call online services to price match... if you have a jcrew card they will charge you the entire amount but then the next day it will be "adjusted" and reflect the change in price. If you don't use a crew card.. I'm not sure how they work it.

  43. Has anyone been shopping Madewell? Jcrews new "cheaper" Jcrew concept store? Its about to open in Atlanta at Lenoxx and I am anxious to see.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love your blog! (Almost as much as I love 20% off sales & free shipping codes.) Glad to know my J.Crew obsession is shared by others!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous, I have bought a couple of tops from Madewell and absolutely love them. I'm actually planning on placing another order with them today.

    ReplyDelete
  46. WOW! So many comments for this post. Sorry I didn't reply to some of these sooner, but I was busy with that pesky day job of mine.

Sounds like overall people got some great deals. I won't lie, I bought a couple of things myself this morning. I was like a kid at a candy store. The only part that sucked was seeing items disappear from my shopping cart. :(

I couldn't agree more with some of the posters here that I hate it when the new/juicy stuff gets removed from the sale section during the 20% off extravaganza. Leave them in, I say! :)

***Also, I feel compelled to write that we all have different perspectives and experiences with J.Crew, which makes the comments from this blog so really great. :) (Let's face it, it is *all of you* that make this a great blog- certainly not my posts about "scarves"... Although I do love scarves).

I just hope no one feels discouraged to share.

And if Jagjag2, you are reading this. Your comments are always appreciated here.

  47. Stephanie -- I ordered/returned the Joelle cami (a wee bit too delicate/flimsy for me), but for some reason like the blouse a lot. It looks nice on -- photographs well, and obviously being silk, is flattering (ie, not clingy and showing bumps and bulges). I like the wider neckline, and it seems there's a slight taper at the waist. There's still a drape effect, but a little nip that keeps it from being too tent-like. I wore the blouse (tucked in) with a black pencil skirt and peep-toe heels, and then later wore it with jeans, too. Also, it's breathable -- just very comfortable all-around. Sorry for such a long reply! But for $30, marked down from $100, it's a great deal! Happy shopping :)

  48. I love this site!! I am a canadian j.crew fan and shipping here gets very expensive so I was so happy to land on this blog with the shipping codes. My whole office is obsessed with j.crew and we consult on each others shopping bags daily. How do you know to get up early to shop the 20% off sale, I am always so sad when things are plucked from my shopping bag.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi Anonymous at 3:08 PM! Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays tend to be good days for J.Crew to add items to the sales. As for figuring out when the 20% off sales roll around, I don't think we have a system.

Speaking for myself, I have checked J.Crew's website on a daily basis for the past 5 years. Even when I am on vacation overseas, I check. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Quick question- Will they give me my 15% teacher discount on top of the 20%? Do I have to call my order in to do this? I thought that only one discount would be used but figured I'd check with you all to make sure. Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Anonymous at 3:08pm! Good to see a fellow Canadian on here! I find that if you check the website early (say around 7am - and I'm in Toronto) the sale section is usually quite well stocked and there is a large variety of items that normally seem to disappear around 9am (yes, I obsessively check the sale section several times a day!!)

For example, I got the striped emily blouse for $19.99 this morning less 20% ...great steal! However when I checked the website an hour later, nothing

For the last 8 weeks or so, Jcrew has been having the extra 20% off sale two weeks every Wednesday. I kind of guessed it would be today so when I found some really nice items ont he website yesterday, I placed my order and then called in today to get a price adjustment. I got the cashmere cortina jacket which I had been lusting after in the fall/winter! Very excited to get this!

Normally when they update the sale section in the morning though its in very limited quantities so the "hot" items i.e. items from past seasons, items marked down to 60-70% off will be gone early in the day.

    Happy shopping :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I just called J.Crew earlier about the teacher discount, and this is what I found out:

You have to call in your order to get the teacher discount. You CAN get the 15% along with the already reduced 20% off sale items, HOWEVER...you CANNOT use BOTH the teacher discount AND the free shipping coupon...you have to choose one or the other, but they are supposed to help you calculate which is the better deal for you.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Alexis:

HAHAHA! You crack me up :o)

And I thought I was crazy just for checking their website on a weekly basis.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alexis,

Thank you so much for posting the free shipping codes! I was able to get a couple of items that I've been watching forever, and I wouldn't have ordered without the FS code!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Have you noticed how they will have a 20% off sale when the lower coupon codes only have one day left before they expire? Unless a new one comes out...you will have to spend the $175 for ENGAGED in order to get the free shipping, while today you only had to spend the $100 for SEASHELL. They used to do it all the time when the FREE SHIPPING codes were out, as well...it's definitely a pattern with them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. anonymous at 3:23--
When there was a 20% off sale a couple weeks ago (May 23) -- I went into the store, to order from the phone so I could get free shipping AND use the 50% in ordering the Alison dress and some other stuff. They would not let me use the 10% student discount with the 20% off coupon that came via email.

    ReplyDelete
  57. eek - correction I did not meant 20%, not 50%!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks FabulousFloridaMommy for finding out more about the educator's discount! :)

Sue.bee: You are not crazy if there are others who do the same! :)

Jennifer: That is what this blog is all about, sharing information about J.Crew and helping each other out! :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am in Toronto too and I love it when I spot another fashionista in the city with my beloved j.crew on. I check the site daily but sometimes I try to take a break so I don't spend too much so I live for the sale area. The only time I have bought a full price item is when my husband wanted something. Lol! I was so upset the Katie jackie in sour lemon stripe was sold out so I was very excited to get the solid geranium on the major discount today. I am going to sign up for a blog id - I am loving this forum!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm so glad my summer class is so early, because that meant I was up bright and early checking my email. When I saw the "summer sale!" email, I immediately clicked over to see what they had. I was impressed with the selection this time around, and used one of the free shipping codes that everyone shared here. :) So thanks everyone, and I can't wait to get my stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Alexis, you are brilliant! I also get inspiration from the catalog, as well as crewcuts, although I don't save them. I see that not as much time and/or money is spent on the photography of the online models as on the catalogs. You are so smart!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't believe you guys threw jagjag2 under the bus. She's been here contributing regularly from the beginning. She didn't post anything untoward. The anonymous commenter responded inappropriately.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I do not think that Jagjag2 was being rude at all, but it is always possible for things to be misinterpreted online because no one can listen to -how- people say things. All we have to go on is type, punctuation, capitalizations, etc... So please let's not be so quick to judge one another and just enjoy the community of J.Crew fanatics we have here! :)

We miss you, jagjag2! Please come back. :(

    ReplyDelete
  64. so I went to the store tonight and picked up some accessories...they weren't an extra 20% off, but that's OK. the prices were still decent and I got the last of the fabric headbands in the patterns I wanted. YAY!

the weird thing was that the employee checking me out said,"Because these accessories are on sale you can't return them." last time i went, no one said this to me... has anyone heard of this? i should've asked, but this is the first time i've heard of this. unless it was final sale, i always thought you could return sale items. couuld this just be an individual store-basis?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I hope that jagjag2 comes back. I don't think that she was being rude at all. She was merely expressing her opinion, no different than everyone else here. Jagjag2, if you're reading this, I hope you'll come back. I love reading your posts and you are a big contributor to this blog. This blog rocks!

If I may say this, this is a public forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion. No one's opinion is more right than another's so let's just respect everyone's opinion for what it is and refrain from judging others or jumping to conclusion.

    ReplyDelete
  66. To Jagjag2:

It was not my intention to personally attack you; I was taken aback when I read your post, your choice of words seemed a bit harsh and condescending to me, but perhaps I misinterpreted what you meant to say. You are definitely a big contributor to this blog and should not feel unwelcome. I will refrain from making anymore negative comments in the future so that everyone can enjoy this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to send Jagjag2 an email to encourage her back. :(

I was hoping that Jagjag2 would have seen the comments of support last night and come back. As I wrote, and I will write again, Jagjag2's comments are always appreciated here. (In other words, please do feel welcomed to return. We all gained from your insights!)

    ReplyDelete
  68. JagJag2,

PHUUUULEEEZZZZZE come back! You were here from the start and I really miss your comments! You are one of my favorites, please reconsider. I "try" to ignore comments I don't agree with.. doesn't always work. We value your contributions!

    Miss you!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Kirbydog- couldn't agree more! Hopefully she will come back (and soon too!)

    ReplyDelete
  70. So my order just came in, and...I LOVE the wellies! I got the yellow/black ones, super cute! Unfortunately, there's some funky discoloration going on with them. Large brown spots on the toe part :o(

I called JCrew customer service and the lady who I talked with was so sweet and said "Oh no! That's not good at all! I'm so sorry they were sent to you like that." Since my size isn't in stock right now she placed them on backorder for me and waived the shipping fee. Yay!

    I love JCrew's phone people :o)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sue.bee: Sorry to hear about the spot on the wellies. Although it is great to hear that the customer rep totally resolved the situation and even through in free shipping. That is great!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I meant to write "threw" not "through". My English teachers would be horrified by the way I write in this blog. :O)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I guess they don't call them "Sh*t-kickers" for nothing!!! Sorry, couldn't resist! Glad to hear the customer service is doing so well!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Haha! Oh, kirbydog...

That would've been gross if the brown spots were poo. I tried to get the spots off by rubbing them, but they just stayed. Maybe they were poo stains?! ;o)

Do you live in the south? Sounds like something a Southerner would say :o)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sue.Bee- No I don't live in the South, although both my sister do. It's just the way my humor is, I guess you could say I just LOOOVE bathroom humor. Everyone here really keeps things very much on the up-and-up so I try to also. Sometimes I just cant't help myself though.... BTW I live on Cape Cod!

    ReplyDelete
  76. kirbydog:

Cape Cod, huh? I lived in Baltimore for 3 years... I can say I don't miss it, but I do wish I had done more exploring in the other states. I just couldn't believe the outrageous toll fees!
