J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hi good morning, all! I received the petite version of the icon trench in the mail the other day (finally) and overall was pretty happy with the quality and fit. My more detailed review is here. Hope it helps!

    1. Great post roxy turtle! :) I'm loving that Donegal tweed dress too - I'm waiting on the next code to come out and plan on getting the dress and maybe the green pencil skirt.

    2. Thank you Lori! I am right there with you, I have about 8 things in my cart right now and am hoping J.Crew will do some kind of full-price promo for Labor Day. :)

    3. Really helpful and great reviews! Those dresses all look lovely on you (especially the pink & the ruffle one) and I'm inclined to go try some of them out during my lunch break.

    4. Thanks, Roxy. Left you a comment and then thought of a question. Love the idea of pairing the Faux leather pocket dress with a long cardi. I checked out your suggestion and I'm curious. Would you pair the dress with the gray or the black cardi?

    5. I would go for the grey one personally maryeb! It would be a nice contrast of color. But just to warn you that cardi sheds a bit...the stripe is made of mohair.

    6. Thanks, Roxy. I like grey better, too. I hadn't thought about the shedding issue. Thanks for the warning.

  3. A quick review of the cape jacket - I bought this in black. I've read a lot of reviews that people felt it was too loose fitting.....I think the real problem is it's too stiff/substantial. The material is so nice and I love that it's lined, but it's heavy and stiff and doesn't lay well. In comparison, I have this cape from Ted Baker (http://www.tedbaker.com/row/Womens/Clothing/Jackets-Coats/VICKIYE-Wool-cape-Taupe/p/120028-28-TAUPE) which isn't lined and is also very loose.....but because it's not stiff it lays much better. I was hoping I'd like the JCrew cape better because of the material, fact that it's lined and price.....and return the TB one....but the JC one was uncomfortable. I love the look and classic colors of this cape, but it doesn't quite work in person. HTHS!

  4. One more - the pink sorbet no. 2 pencil skirt is gorgeous! One thing I can still count on JC for is the pencil skirts. I collect these and get so much wear out of them during the cold months. The pink sorbet is just beautiful - it's called heather, but I don't see anything "heathered" about - it's a true candy pink color. I tried this on with dark brown boots and a cream sweater and it's pretty much perfect.

    1. I have the sorbet no. 2 in my wishlist along with the tangy olive, ivory and navy. Last year I discovered that skirt and got it in the: heathered chartreuse (loved it and bought 2), olive green, tan (matched so much I got 2) and burgundy. I wonder how the tangy olive will compare to last year's chartreuse. What do you think of the pink donegal pencil skirt with the matching regent? I wait until the skirts go for $77 and that's when I pounce!

    2. My entire cold weather wardrobe is built around those skirts! I have the chartreuse one from last year, such a good color! I love the Donegal ones, if they do a code I'll likely get them. Not a fan of the regent, it's a lovely jacket but I don't care for the collar. LOL @ pounce, I hear you there....the only reason I got the sorbet this early in the season was due to a code and a gift card I had so I got it from $55.....plus I just wanted a little retail therapy :)

    3. Ooh lucky! You already have the sorbet! I can relate to you on the regent, it took warming up from me to feel the love. At first I was schoolboy all the way (I counted seven in my closet the other day), then I dabbled because I love plaid/houndstooth and got the olive amber multi with the matching zip pencil skirt and then came the regent glen plaid when I could snatch it for low 100s. Basically I'll go for a Regent if it's a neat plaid or has a matching skirt. But the pink donegal outfit is far down on my list. What do you make of the Rhodes? I'm desperate for the bright cerise and entertain the Belgian chocolate. I thought the belgian choc. might look good next to the tangy olive, ivory or sorbet skirts.

This is so exciting talking about J.Crew lol. I went overboard last year and this year I vowed I will spend 1/3 of what I did last year and thus cultivated a wishlist to keep it under control.

    4. I just received the tangy olive and the dusty cedar No. 2's today. The tangy olive is darker than last years chartreuse. It's like the bronzed ochre color from a few years ago. I love it. The dusty cedar is my favorite if the two. It's a beautiful pinkish toned tan. The fit is a little different this year. A smidge wider in the hips, and longer. Sits higher in waist, too. I got my usual 4 and it fits great. Both are 24 1/2 " long.

    5. Thanks for the description of the tangy olive color. I don't know what the bronzed ochre looks like, I'll look it up online. I'm curious to see how the fit is and how it's been tweaked.

  5. Maybe there's hope for the women's side.

    1. wait a minute - "a J.Crew shop in New York that will be getting a full roll-out of the new products on September 14" - ??? What about the other "shops"? Which New York store? What did I miss?

      Delete
    2. I suspect that the rollout will be at the new concept store at Brookfield Place Mall (World Financial Center). J Crew moved the concept store there from Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ a few months ago, and they receive new merchandise 2-3 weeks before any other stores. I visited Brookfield Place a little more than a month ago and was underwhelmed. It's not a big space and it seems like trying to fit all of the regular merch plus the new rollout makes it a bit too crowded.

  6. The factory stores have started their labor day promo, 50% off entire store I think. I finally bought the military shirt dress from my closest store and it should be here tomorrow. It came to the same price as online without spending $100.00. The big plus is that I should get it tomorrow, the outlet store is only 35 miles away and they are shipping UPS ground. I think it will be a great transition piece since the temps where I live are still almost 90 degrees. If I like it, I thought it would be a great outfit to explore Cincinnati this weekend with a little parker cross body bag and some comfy shoes.(haven't gotten that far yet)

    1. Sorry for the highjack...this isn't about J.Crew just wanted to give a shout out to another Dachshund mommy! I have a wire-haired dachshund named Henry who's about 6 and seriously the love of my life (don't tell my husband and kids, oh please they know).

      Delete
    2. Aw Loren we have something else in common, dachshund love! My dog was 1/2 dachshund, she was 15 and went to dog heaven a month ago. They are the sweetest dogs! Dogs make life better!

      Delete
    3. I'm sorry to hear your dog passed. I think about that, how many years left we have together. What was she mixed with? p.s. I got the sorbet skirt for $77 which is what I paid last year for the ones I got. I wish the 30% worked for all the items, still holding out for 3-4 more things. What's on your wishlist?

    4. It's heartbreaking how short their lives are. She's was 1/2 long hair Chihuahua. You got a deal on the sorbet! I hope you love it as much as I do. I'm surprised how much goes with it! Now that they'd done the 30% off I splurged and got the basic black one (how did I not have this?!) and the green tweed. So ready for cold weather!

  7. Review of the flannel shirt in rockport plaid on my IG.

    1. I entertained that shirt. It has wooden buttons? They have it paired with the collection black zip pencil which is an intriguing pairing, edgy prep lol. How can I read your review? I'm a bit computer illiterate and don't know how to do IG that's instagram right? I googled Rockport shirt J.Crew review and it didn't come up.

  8. Factory Sherpa Lined Utility Vest (#C8601). It looks shapeless on the web site, but it's got an interior drawstring and it cinches in nicely. The lining is substantial and it buttons in. J. Crew took more care with this than they do with a lot of other things. I thought it was well done. You can remove the sherpa lining, but the lining isn't meant to be worn by itself. The outside of the lining is the rough side of the sherpa material, but you wouldn't normally see it when it's buttoned into the main vest. It's listing at $68.50 on the web site today (down from $98), plus there is 25% off orders of $100+. It was half off of $98 in the store.

    1. I forgot to mention the most important thing, it runs big. I got this a size smaller than I wear in my Excursion vests.

    2. Cate....I wear a small in the Excursion vests. Is an XS really that oversized? I've been eyeing this Sherpa lined vest but just didn't know what size to get. Thanks for any advice you can give.

      Delete
    3. I'm not sure. I thought I'd buy the Medium, but the shoulders were too wide across the top. I think the rest of the vest was probably oversized too but I wasn't paying attention to that once I decided to move on to the next size down. The sales associate told me it ran big too, before I went into the fitting room, if that helps to know. It was still not tight on me, even in the Small, so I think you'd be better off in the XS.

    4. Thanks for sharing your review!! I'm an XS in the excursion vest (when I'm not pregnant, lol) but that's a size down from my regular size and I like it to fit a little tight (don't wear too many layers under it). So I think I'll try the XS in the Sherpa-lined, too...

  9. Speaking of Excursion vests, I tried on the Factory Quilted Puffer Vests again. I tried on the solid in Overcast Gray and another that I don't see on the web site that was a small buffalo check, in black and gray or black and navy (can't recall). I am not a fan of this year's vests because I think the collar is too high. I got out my old retail Excursion vests and my old Factory vests (solid and Herringbone) and the collars are definitely lower than this year's Factory vests. The current ones might work for a lot of people, but they were too high on me. Maybe this is a good thing if you're wearing them in a very cold climate, but if it's that cold I'm not wearing a vest.

  10. Factory Bonded Motorcycle Jacket (#E1823). This was a weird fit on me. The web site says it's cotton/poly, but it's (mostly) that scuba type material. Didn't care for it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Daywalk Shirtdress in Fairfax Plaid (#E0851). The web site says it's cotton/rayon, the tag says 52% cotton/48% viscose (I guess that's rayon?). Web site and tag say hand wash. The tag says tumble dry low. I was surprised by this after trying it on, because it feels just like a flannel shirt, but with better drape. It's very cozy, great length for me (just above the knees, I'm on the shorter side). Best thing? The dress is TTS but roomy and hangs straight so the pockets aren't noticeable unless you're using them.

  12. OT - In an interview, Jenna Lyons talks about the company's profit losses and her lack of involvement. Just kidding. It's a fun article about her...and her favorites.

    Enjoy!
PS: I love that yellow skirt on her. My kind of length. Probably not offered in petite.

  13. The moment everyone has been waiting for...30% off an order of $125 on select regular price items. Promo code: GETSHOPPING
Sadly the Rhodes blazer and Always Chambray were excluded. I got the four no. 2 pencil skirts on my list. And I chickened out of the navy silk pocket blouse with coordinating navy drop waist wool skirt that is on back order anyway until Oct. 5. I don't want to spend almost $100 for a silk blouse, 70-80 is more my speed and what I've spent in the past for similar blouses at Brooks Brothers. I'll strike at it when it's 40% off.

  14. Madewell is offering 30% off "fall essentials" and 30% off sale. Fitting room pic of the Skinny Skinny jeans in Trent Wash here. TTS Very stretchy and comfortable. Online it looks like there is fading but I couldn't tell in store. They just looked black.

    1. Attention size Petite 6 ladies! There are two great blazers on sale...one is the Regent in amber multi, I love how diverse that plaid is, can go with dark chambray for a casual look or any number of button downs and tons of last year's pencil skirts, navy, maroon and the olive. There's also a Schoolboy blazer in heather graphite with gold buttons, it's the one that got away for me, I wish they had my size. It didn't catch my eye last year and I love it now. I have it bookmarked to see if it pops up again but it looks like ebay is my only hope in finding it. Ebay has been a friend in finding extinct J.Crew.

    2. Another petite size 6 item on sale that I love is the chambray Regent if anyone is interested. But I'm so over summer/spring clothes right now so I'm kind of relieved they don't have my size but it is super adorable.

  15. Where is everyone? Beuller, Beuller, Beuller...

Ok, so last night or very early in the morning before sleep takes place but when most humans are already asleep, I placed my J.Crew order and attempted to get the Donegal Regent in pink but at that point the 30% didn't apply to it. But when I went on now I saw that it was included, so go figure I went for that outfit, pink donegal Regent and matching skirt. I went on because I decided to go for that navy drop waist plaid skirt after all even though I have to wait a month for it. The Regent blazer with the silk by the inner lapel is included in the sale if anyone is curious.
