This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
Hi all, I reviewed the faux-leather pocket dress and included a few outfit ideas here, and also reviewed the collection collarless v-neck wrap coat here. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteThat coat is gorgeous and looks great on you. I am very tempted. I don't have a dressy winter coat (but I have way too many casual ones!)
DeleteWOW ...that coat is perfect on you. your reviews are ....so detailed . Really appreciated. C
DeleteThat coat looks beautiful on you! Thank you for the detailed and eloquent review.
DeleteGreat reviews!!
DeleteHadn't even noticed that coat before (I saw it, but kinda scrolled by only because I'm not in the market) -- it looks stunning on you!!
DeleteThat does look really great on you! The unfussy style is a winner.
DeleteThe collarless coat does look fabulous on you! Thanks to your review of the faux leather pocket dress last week, I ordered it and it should be here tomorrow. Now you have me interested in the vest from BR :-P I hope you got your price adjustment on the dress!
DeleteThank you, everyone! Glad you find the reviews helpful :)
DeleteA tiny bit off topic - has anyone seen the new Anne Hathaway movie, The Intern? I LOVED IT SO MUCH! And her wardrobe was adorable, so many things that remind me of the good old days of J.Crew. Amazing blazers. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMatchstick cords - I have many of these from past years and wear them constantly Fall, Winter & Spring, so I was excited to see some new colors to add to my collection. I ordered my usual size, petite 26. They fit fine through the thigh, but are too big in the waist. In the short time I wore them around the house, I kept having to pull them up - suffered from saggy crotch syndrome, really annoying. They even seemed to get looser as I wore them. The fabric is thinner and stretchier than in the past. @shopalot's eagle eye noticed lyocell in the fabric content. The thinner fabric means they won't be as warm in the Winter either. The fatigue is a really great, neutral color. So, I'm doubly disappointed in this latest iteration. I'm returning them.
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in an earlier review, I also tried the Lookout cords, petite 26. They fit perfectly in the waist, but felt too tight in the thigh. Maybe I just don't like that tight look on me. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has tried sizing up in these. I'm concerned if I size up the waist will be to big. Any thoughts?
I got saggy crotch from their cords last year, so I didn't even try this time around! Surprisingly, I really like the cord pants from Loft. They are super comfortable and dont look like crap at the end of the day. They also are very affordable - I think I paid $45 a pair. They come in a classic straight leg and a skinny, I bought all the colors!
DeleteHi Lori, just went on Loft's website, what a great tip! (Just yesterday, I received Matchstick cords from JC, and I plan on keeping them). However, I really like Loft's color selection & price. I wanted to ask whether you take the same size in Loft as you do, more or less, in J Crew pants. Thanks for any advice!
DeleteOh boy, thanks for the heads up maryeb. My matchstick cords arrived yesterday. They fit fine but I only had them on for a minute. Absolutely hate the droopy crotch business. My Gap cords from last year suffered that fate; I was pulling them up constantly and the rear view was saggy and awful after an hour. I'm going to start whining now - WHY did J Crew change the perfect corduroys? Go back to 98% cotton/2% lycra. PLEASE!!!
DeleteI guess everyone is different because although I like the quantity of options at Loft, I find that their denim, cotton pants and cords all stretch out. Good luck!
DeleteHi was that recent? Years ago I quit going to Loft because of the fit. I randomly walked by one day and thought I'd try again and was surprised how much I liked the cords. I also got a couple of pair of jeans, they fit isn't as good as designer jeans but they dont get saggy knees or crotch and they're comfy. For reference, I'm 5'7, 140 pounds with a tiny waist, flat tummy but plenty of rear (I blame doing too many squats lol). I typically wear a 6 in Jcrew pants but took a 29 (size 8) in Loft. HTH!
DeleteThanks for that info, Lori, it's really helpful! I hope to check out the Loft cords (or pants in general) tomorrow at lunchtime. I'll try them on in my usual size & go from there (might need to sizer up or order Petite online). The Matchstick I got from JC are from the most recent rollout and I never bought the previous version so I can't speak to how they compare (worried about the fabric content, now that Maryeb & shopalot mentioned it.) I wanted to keep the ones i got b/c I liked the blue shade but will wear them around the house a bit to see if I'm able to notice any sagging issues.
DeleteI bought a pair of LOFT cords a few years ago and they fit perfectly in the dressing room but stretched out at least half a size, so by the end of the day they were sagging. Maybe it would have been better if I sized down, and this year's version is probably different, YMMV.
DeleteThanks for the tip, Lori. Sounds like some mixed reviews. I'll have to give the Loft cords a try and see what happens.
DeleteAnyone try the toothpick cords? Thoughts on sizing? I'm wondering if I should go up a size in these and the Lookout version.
Hi ladies! I just got an email from the Loft about a flash sale and the discount I received is for 50% off regular priced merchandise. The code is LUCKY50. Hope that helps someone!
DeleteJust got the tassel oxfords and really love them. Made in Italy and very comfy. They are TTS.

ReplyDeletePetite Excursion Vest in irish moss - Ordered this in PXS, because I've tried the regular XS, and liked the fit, but wanted it scaled to my petite frame. The PXS is a tad snug on the chest. Will size up to a PS. Warning, the color is not the same as online. I think the name of the color is more accurate, 'irish moss'...it is more green than it being a dirty yellow/brown/green (in this color order). With that said, I wasn't wowed by the color, and will stick to ordering it in navy instead.
Seavees leather sneakers - Ordered 5.5. Fits TTS. It fits my slightly wide feet, with plenty of room to wiggle my toes. Comfortable, not snug. Good quality, looks comparable to Superga Italian sneakers.
and also ordered basics...
Pixie in navy
Scoopneck Tee in white - size S for a looser fit.
Does anyone have a review of the downtown field puffer jacket that just went on sale? I'm looking for a new mid-weight (cold enough for a jacket, not cold enough for a parka) jacket for the upcoming Midwest fall/winter. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm styling the Floral Sequin sweater and Ryder pants on my blog. Both run TTS. I could have possibly sized up in the Ryder pants.
ReplyDeleteI also stopped by my concept Factory store yesterday and scooped up a BUNCH of new holiday items. There is a picture of my haul on my instagram. I'm REALLY excited for the holiday collection. The quality is very decent, and I'm loving the prices lately. There are more items arriving next week, so I'll be sure to report back. This collection is set to hit online and the stores next month.

I purchased two items recently, I'll start with the bad (even though bad is a strong word for it) and follow with the good:
ReplyDelete1) The No2Pencil in Tweed e1057... the fit on this was perfect JCrew pencil but I didn't care for the pale grey polyester slippery lining. I am very fussy about that sort of thing and I know that if the lining had been better quality I likely would have kept it... even though the wool is not "fine", I didn't find it scratchy but the houndstooth was a rougher weave, not polished... which I kind of liked. Makes it easier to transition to a casual outfit (with a chambray shirt for example). I sent it back today but I held on to it for a week first so it wasn't a definite no.
2) The Colette suede D'Orsay pumps e0795: I bought these in black for a gala I am attending tomorrow evening and I was so hoping they would fit because I'm too busy to head out to the shops to look for something.
Well they arrived today and Holy Schmokes these exceeded my expectations: such a sexy looking heel while feeling so comfortable on the foot, they are perfect. I often size up for a JCrew heel but I ordered my regular 8.5 based on the many favourable website reviews...I love them. I wore them around my house for about an hour and no pinching or foot fatigue... I'm going to have to go back and get the red version eventually, I'll be keeping my eye on them to make sure they don't sell out before I can get me a pair.
IRL pics of the J.Crew Ribbed Boatneck Tunic (e1382, e1697 for petite) here and the J.Crew Sweatshirt with Side Slits (c9627, e2548 for petite) here.
ReplyDeleteThe Ribbed Boatneck Tunic is on sale but not final sale. The DAYFIVE code seems to work on it.
