  1. I ordered last night the Collection leather tank top and the Petite pique bib shirt. I'm surprised the leather tank is on promo. Hope it fits me!

I'm copying a style that Roxy Turtle posted on her blog, of a mannequin she took a photo of at a NYC JCrew store. It was styled in a leather tank and underneath it a Thomas Mason collarless white button up, worn with black pixie or denim. I just thought it looked cool layering the leather tank like that.

    1. What size did you order? I ordered two sizes -- 0 and 00. It looks kind of loose on the model and I really want it to be more fitted. Not tight, but I think it will look better if its not as loose as it is on the model. I wish they told you what size the model is wearing.

I'm excited to see it in person.

    2. Hi Blake - ordered a 2. Since there are no darts and I'm a 36B, crossing fingers that I ordered the right size.

    3. Ahhh JSR will you let us know how it fits? I'm seriously considering ordering it if it's included in the promo...how awesome!

  2. Was hoping for better promo of sale items... Want the 75% off again... Lol... But did pick up dulci heels... In mink grey.... Think that's a decent price for them.... Has anyone tried buying jcrew shoes on eBay? They have same shoes for around $100... Likely coming from a clearance store.... Thanks all

    1. Just a tip: Any eBay seller located in Roanoke, Lynchburg or Forest VA, or Asheville NC - all of it is clearance store merch. These will be no boxes, label marked through with a black Sharpie. I will NEVER buy from these people. They take shoes you can buy from the clearance store for $30 & mark them up like crazy. They're not supposed to do that (store rules!) but it happens all the time anyway.

      Delete
    2. Taylor is correct. It just burns me up when people buy up stuff at the warehouse sale or store with the intention of reselling on ebay. I will not buy from them either, I wish J.Crew had a way to stop these people but they really don't.

    4. Thank you ladies. Agree... All these sellers are from VA... They do state regarding the black mark. I called one of the clearance stores and the dulci heels are $60...too bad they don't ship. It's crazy that the mark up is that much... But I paid double to the shoes.... Lol... But was scared to buy from eBay...I am in NY, so I never get down to VA just to shop.... Lol.... But I just looked at my bill from this morning and the shoes came out about $150... Might return.... Thank you all again

    5. I have bought from some of the resellers. I had a good experience. Some, IMO, are delusional about what they can get and won't come off their insane markups. Some, however, have given me pretty good deals. If you're after something that's long gone and not near VA, there aren't a whole lot of other options. :) If only J Crew would do send-sales from the clearance center...

    6. Thanks... It's so nice to hear different thoughts... The price difference is half of retail even with today's sale. I emailed few sellers today after hearing everyone on this post and they won't come down a penny... $98 for suede dulci heels in mink grey.... The cheapest I can find...But still $60 less then retail.... Agree wish the clearance store shipped.

      Delete
    7. Guys, I am with you about those resellers. Delusional is the word, Wendy. I understand markups, but some of the are insane given the price they get it at. I have bought stuff items on ebay if the price is reasonable - the problem is many folks do not realize the insanely low prices the stuff is sold for.
JCrw should do a clearance sale (>75%) in the end of each season of their website, and give an opportunity to customers from all over the states to buy the end-of season, discounted items vs. give fuel to the secondary marker for limited few who resell stuff on ebay.
Taylor - I think you are correct, on the bottom of the page there is a note about stuff not to be purchased for resell purposes, or something like that.

    8. Ha, just sharing the blog stuff re: ebay with a colleague on mine. So further thoughts. She says she spoke with JCrew about this, telling them that selling current selection, in demand, Collection(!) pieces heavily discounted at the clearance centers is a fast way to discount the brand, is ridiculous, and shall be put to end.

I replied that discounting the value of the brand seem like the only thing that they get it right lately.

      Delete
    9. Can these sellers be reported to eBay or jcrew..... Where is the stuff written? Do you guys think suede dulci at $98 is a good or a bad deal? Considering the clearance store told me today they are $60

      Delete
    10. Kate Tayban, as my colleague suggests, you should email JCrew describing the situation, and asking them to ship it from the clearance store even if they do not usually do it. I find Jcrew to be very responsive to customers' complains. Good luck.

      Delete
    11. They are not going to ship, your only hope is to either go or if you know someone that lives near a clearance store, NC or VA that can go by and get them for you. I have a friend that is in the Asheville area often and sometimes I will ask them to pick something up for me if I know exactly what I am getting and they will put it on hold. They will only hold for the same day, not overnight. Oh, how I wish they would ship but my closet would be more overflowing than it already is...

      Delete
    12. Oh, agree doodle, it would bankrupt me! Even if they don't ship, Kate can always get a price adjustment, a gift card, etc.

On the bottom of the price list from the clearance store it says: "We do not authorize the purchase of our merchandise for resale purchases", you can google and find it on the web, yet, for years all merch ends up being resold by professional resellers.

      Delete
    13. Wow... Thank you everyone for this active post ... I chatted with jcrew rep they said that the clearance store is independent of them and there is nothing they can do to help.
Anon... Do you think I should press them for a price adjustment from retail store... Online...
Anyway sounds like it's my choice.... To keep the ones for $150 or eBay ones for $90....

    18. I don't mind "last season" merch, samples, some damage, etc, being sold at the clearance shops - this is why the clearance shops exist. I have nothing against folks reselling stuff ebay, either - we all have been "victims" to the dreaded final sale, our bodies or life changed, many have closets full of clothes we no longer want to wear. What I do not like, is CURRENT merch being sold discounted. Now, my understanding is this IS coming from clearance stores. Or is it warehouse sales - and that would be owned by JCrew, right?

Why cant they do a mega sale online at the end of each season? They plan to open several Mercantile stores by the end of this year, why not sell it there? Do we really need another stores that sell Factory merch? So, yes, they do have certain control over what they want to do with their last season/discounted stuff.

So as I said, I am not sure whether the current merch is sold via clearance centers or the warehouse sales, but it is sold - heavily discounted current merchandise, and that is ridiculous. And this is one of the reasons why many people, myself included, will never pay full price for anything.

    19. I have gotten three older style blazers from ebay and grateful for the opportunity to get styles I missed the first go round. I got the Hacking Jacket in Ocean Blue, a wool schoolboy in blackwatch plaid in the version I wanted as there are two different versions I believe, and a grape flannel schoolboy. I am thrilled people are selling these extinct styles on ebay and to me the prices seem even lower than my regular sale price items I pay for. I always feel like I got a bargain lol. I'm happy if someone can make a living that way. I am hoping to find my sold out Heather Graphite schoolboy blazer with gold buttons in size Petite 0, again that's P0 ;) in case anyone is out there reading this and going to a clearance center lol.

    20. That cannot be right, regarding J Crew not owning their clearance centers. There are only two that I know of - I have never been to the one in Arden but I frequently stop in at the one in Lynchburg. Not only is it literally in the same building as the main distribution center, the SAs wear J Crew tags, they have the latest style guides, & I have always used my J Crew credit card there.

As far as the eBay resellers - I am definitely not opposed to buying off eBay. I've scored tons of great J Crew items over the past several years. I just straight-up refuse to buy from any local sellers who have a massive amount of things to sell, in all different sizes, as I know they've gone to the clearance store to purchase at rock-bottom prices to turn around & try to make a huge profit. One of the SAs told me once that this was completely not allowed but they didn't know how to stop it.

...or maybe I am just bitter that they're selling a pair of Martina wedges for $150 in my size when I could have picked them up myself at the clearance store for $30! :)

      Delete
    21. What is also crazy, if you've been to a warehouse sale, are the amount of young children who are helping their parents (the resellers) get the merchandise that sells the best on eBay. There is a $500 limit when you go through the line, so i have seen kids who can't be older than 8 or 9 checking out and paying for bags of merchandise (usually the high selling shoes), so that the parents can bypass the the max spending limit. There is supposed to be a policy where J Crew can refuse to sell to these people if it looks like they are buying to resell; however, I have never seen them refuse to sell. It's very obvious who the resellers are. They work in teams and go off of lists to collect the most sought after merchandise. It is disgusting!

      Delete
    22. ^^That IS disgusting! The clearance stores have the same $500 max per sale rule - but I imagine it gets a lot worse during one of the warehouse sales, which I refuse to go to because I don't have it in me to cope with all that. It's too intense! Some people just suck.

      Delete
    23. J Crew does own their clearance center. Roxy is incorrect.

      Delete
    24. If you search job openings on jcrew's site, currently, they have two openings for the clearance store in Arden. I presume then that they own all of them.
My friend took it to JCrew re: this issue last winter after dozens of clearly discounted Chateau parkas started to pop on ebay, yet there were nowhere to be found on sale in retail/online.

      Delete
    25. Oh, my apologies. I was told incorrect information then, I will delete my comment!

      Delete
    26. Hey, roxy, no need to apologize or delete your comments. We all just share what we know, or what we think we know:)! Again, it just show you how passionate we are about the brand.

But hey, JCrew, if you do not know what to do with those clearance stores resellers, as one SA said, maybe you should hire some JCAs as your advisors - something that was suggested on this blog repeatedly! :)

      Delete
    27. Agree with anon - NBD, roxy! I didn't know if you were talking about some other clearance center or not as the only two I know of are in NC & here in VA.

I'm making a trip next weekend to look for a new coat. I will practice my best stink-face just in case I see one of these lowlife resellers.

    28. FWIW, I have seen employees at the Warehouse Sale in Lynchburg refuse sales to customers who are blatantly violating the no-resale policy. A few women were taking entire cardboard boxes of shoes and turning them over into their shopping bags. It was egregious, and I was so excited to watch the intervention.

I, too, support only the ethical resale of J.Crew merch on Ebay, simply because it affords me access to the quality of past seasons that is often discussed on this blog. I also sell my JCrew closet "orphans" and hope that the items go to happy homes.

      Delete
    29. This is a great chat. Hope jcrew is reading this. I did speak with a chat rep yesterday who told me that the warehouse is not owned by jcrew. I called the Lynchburg warehouse and was told they do not ship from the store... And yes... I am a little bitter that I was told that the Dulci heels are only $60, are available in sold out color(mink gray) and in my size 7.5.... It's hard to pay $150
On sale or $120 on eBay when I know they are $60 at the warehouse. Very interesting....

    31. Yes, great discussion. Hope they read it, too.

In their annual report they state black on white that they do own their 1) Facility in Asheville which houses the distribution center, it ships merch to stores using an independent trucking company 2) Own two facilities in Lynchburg which contain a customer call center and order fulfillment operations for the ecommerce business 3) Lease customer call centre in San Antonio 4) Utilize third party distribution centers to support the factory and international ecommerce.

      Page 6, Distribution section.

Now, for legal purposes, companies have a bunch of subsidiaries for their separate businesses. Grace Holmes, Inc, is their legal name of their retail stores, Factory stores are under H.F.D. No. 55, Inc., etc. There is J.Crew Virginia, Inc. for....JCrew Virginia, Inc. So my guess is, the facilites in Lynchburg are separate subsidiary for legal purposes, hence the rep response that they dont "own" it. But all is owned by J.Crew Group, Inc., aka "JCrew" as we know it.

Also, have job openings for the clearance store in arden, nc....Btw, if anyone is wondering whether a new store is coming to your town, check it out, there are job openings for "New stores" :)

You're lucky you fit in J.Crew dresses, I don't fit in them right, they're too tight in the bust in the P0 and I'm too lazy to alter. I fit in Lands End dresses in their smallest petite size.

    3. Loren, yes I bought a few of the dresses I spoke about earlier this week, some jewelry and I'm still pondering the collection leather tank as I'm stuck here in a car for several hours on our way up to Labor Day weekend fun. :)

    4. Have a fun and safe trip! LOL about musing in the car about J.Crew, I can relate. So did you get the donegal pink dress you tried on? i ended up getting the regent and pencil in the donegal pink and am curious to see how it ends up. From the reviews it sounds like the wool is lighter weight than the average wool regent. i hope that is the case bec. I wanted to wear it in Sep.

  11. There sure were a LOT of exclusions, but luckily two of the dresses I've had my eye on were included--the ruffle hem dress in dark wine and the metallic mixed tweed. Also decided to go ahead and get the cap sleeve silk top. Now let's hope everything ships, fairly soon, and in one box!

  12. Just an FYI - keep an eye on your excluded items over the course of this promo. Three of the items that I was interested that were excluded this morning are now not excluded. 1. Silver Lining is right!!! The cape wasn't included this morning, but after seeing her post, I tried again, and the % off worked on the cape. Also, Ebates has 6% cash back at J.Crew (usually it's 1.5%). I take back my whining about the exclusion.

    2. Yes, that was my experience as well. I went online crazy late or early depending on the person...2am-ish when I remembered it was past 12am and the new promo opportunity for JCrew lay in wait (sign of a J.Crew shopping problem lol). The Donegal Regent was not included in the promo and then lo and behold this afternoon it is. Certain things however there is no wiggle room, the items that they state in the disclaimer like the Rhodes blazer.

      Delete
    3. Yea, but they state Collection and leather goods are excluded and I got the Collection leather tank. So, the more likely scenario is J. Crew has no idea what it is doing.

    4. I got the cape also and the promo worked on the second try. Yes!

I think the heftier weight will work well for our Midwest weather.

sadly the two Rhodes blazers (belgian chocolate and bright cerise) and the Always chambray shirt didn't work. The wait continues...
What makes me a little nervous though is that it says 'only a few left'. But it doesn't say it on the page, only when it's on the wishlist or in the cart. So I was curious about that phenomenon and called up. The person I spoke to said they're getting more in so that's why it doesn't register there is only a few left when you 'tap' on the size on the main page that you order from. I let my mouse graze each size lol to see if it will say 'only a few left'. I have so many outfits planned for those blazers, for them to sell out will be grrr...
