  1. I admit these are getting me to take a look at the web site. It's no fun to get there and see exclusions, though. Still mostly just looking in sale and the promo items, but they added to sale today.

  2. I agree, everything I want is excluded from this and every other promo they have had in the last few weeks.

    1. Yeah, I give up. All the boring stuff is discounted; anything remotely interesting is excluded. J.Crew, you and me? We're done. I give up on you.

  3. I bit on the donegal wool skirts in pink and green - I've been eying them since they came out. Ordered both my regular and petite sizes to see which fits best.

The donegal tweed dresses are of course excluded, as expected since they are selling like hotcakes, but I don't care since I've been having terrible luck with J.Crew shifts and sheaths lately. Too tight in the waist and too loose in the hips so I can't size up or size down and I don't have a tailor I trust.

On that point, I have a cotton pencil skirt that fits perfectly in the waist but is way too big in the hips. I'm wondering if I should get the sides taken in? Is that an diffciult or expensive alteration? Tailors here charge ridiculous amounts. I'm wondering if I should learn to sew....

    1. Flower Power, I'm usually between sizes in skirts so I often have to get them 'tapered', taken in from the hips down. This past weekend I took 3 skirts and a pair of jeans (for hemming) to a cheapie tailor where I live here in NYC and the total was $50 -- I think they vary their pricing, but having the sides taken in for skirts has run me $10-15 per item, roughly. (I don't believe it's a difficult alteration, per se, though I guess it might depend on whether the item is lined, or it has side pockets, etc, etc. For skirts with side pockets, I think they nip the waist in the back.) A lot of dry cleaners have tailors who also do this work but they charge a lot more, starting with $29 for hemming. I'd love to learn to sew as well because just about everything I buy, save tops, needs some sort of adjusting. HTH. I think if you really like the item, it's worth getting it fitted. Good luck!

  4. Has anyone seen the
    Wool melton hooded bib jacket
    item C8556

I am liking it a lot in the red and gray.

    1. I have this jacket from last year. I tried the light gray and bright blue. I thought the gray looked too shapeless on me in such a light shade, but the blue is gorgeous, so I kept that one. It is on the shorter side for a winter coat, but not too short. I wore mine all winter and was quite comfy and warm. The red this year has me tempted!

    2. I bought the black last year and I really like the coat. The double zip was a bit of a challenge as other reviewers have mentioned.

      Delete
    3. I was looking at this jacket too! Can anyone tell me if it's suited to wear like a jacket or warm like a coat? It seems like it would be more of a fall jacket.

      Delete
    4. Mine is definitely more like a coat. I live in Tennessee and it doesn't get extremely cold in the winter. I have several coat options in my closet and this is a good one but not my go to for everyday. I really like the black with jeans, black boots, scarf, etc. Due to the short length it is not bulky at all. I feel like the wool is the same as some of my other J.Crew coats. I have the toggle coat from last year in gray and I think the weight is identical.

    5. Thanks, Doodle Dachshund! That helps a lot! I am trying to find a fall jacket option. I have the Downtown Field Jacket and have tried the Mechanic Jacket but it didn't really suit me. I have contemplated a Barbour Beadnell but I am looking for something a bit more polished.

I also have the Stadium Cloth Elements Coat from years ago but am dying for the Cocoon Coat this year. So many decisions!

  5. I ordered a pair of the wool flannel cropped pants today - the free shipping means and the 30% off were good incentives to try them.

I sort of feel that the 30% off price is really the price those pants should be marked at. I get the whole "higher price then discount so the shopper gets excited", but I really think the original price is too high for unlined pants.

    1. Totally agree with you here! I'm looking at the pleated midi skirt in the dot print, and as cute as it is I am having a hard time paying to much for a polyester skirt, even with the discount today!

    2. Carmen - if I remember, you liked the wool Patio, too. Have you bought and tried it ever since it was released? I wish it came in more colors for petite.

      Delete
    3. I am wearing the wool Patio (in petite) right now! The blue stone - love it! I also ordered and received the chartreuse color - haven't worn it yet. So thumbs up for me on the wool patio.

FYI, I have the cotton patio pants in regular size 10, and after getting measurements from JCrew customer service, ordered the wool patio in 12 petite, and they are a good fit.

      Delete
    4. How's the chartreuse? Is it more yellow or olive tone? Sometimes online photos are different from seeing it with naked eyes. I wish I was brave enough to wear chartreuse. :-)
It looks cute paired with that marble sweater in grey.

      Delete
    5. I also bought the wool pencil skirt in "tangy olive", and the pencil skirt is more olive than the patio pants in the chartreuse color.

I would say it is a true chartreuse - a yellow-green or green-yellow, not a true yellow, nor really an olive.

  6. I've had my eye on the collection sequin shell (c7190) for a long time, and at least with this current promo it is not FS (it had been before). It's still available in all sizes though, and no reviews yet so I may keep on waiting - it'll likely get cheaper and it's hard to pay $140 for (basically) a fancy t shirt..

    3. I had several pair of the lace up wedges from a couple of years ago. I have problems with my feet/toes so sadly they were not good for me when I did try to wear them. I think if I had normal feet, they would have been great. They are not extremely high. I think they were TTS and the quality on those was nice. I even had a pair of the collection leopard calf hair that sadly I sold on ebay. I just remembered that. :( Darn feet...

  9. I'm tempted to order the sweater skirt to try. Wanted to add a color or two to my wardrobe that's not navy or grey. Interested in the pink, because I like how it's styled in 'Looks We Love'. Has anyone seen it IRL? I have a feeling it'll be too long on me.

Too bad the Patio in wool is not included in the promo.

    1. To add, I like the wool zip pencil skirt in black, because I saw a similar Rag & Bone version that I like but not the price. So I tried JCrew's P4 and regular 2 at the store. I'm disappointed that it's high waisted so going up a size may fit my waist but the hips doesn't work. Why couldn't jcrew design something that was regular waist instead of high waisted.

  10. So the silk drapey v neck blouse popped back in my size in the brown color. Got all excited went to check out and got the excluded from promo. Why do they have so many exclusion and make it hard to spend money. On top of that the three dresses I ordered last week ( tweed sheath, colorblock sheath and ruffle front dress) all fit poorly and would need a lot of tailoring to look good so they are all going back. I am ready for new arrivals too.

    1. How did the colorblock sheath fit? It looks gorgeous on the website but with J.Crew you can never tell!

  11. As much as I tried all I have in my cart is a belt, pair of earrings and a turtleneck. I don't need any of these things.....so WHY do I go hunting? Geez....I need to think about this!

  12. All I was interested in was the Rhodes blazer in herringbone and the collection Ludlow blazer in plaid. Both are excluded. :(

  13. Question for you JCAs: Is the oversized turtleneck in wide stripes (the one Lauren Hutton was wearing in the catalog) sold out? I haven't been checking the website that often and now I can't find it anywhere. TIA!

    1. My local store had a whole stack, in fact I bought one and love it. The style number is b3380 and it is available in all sizes on the website.

    2. My store was sold out of most of their sizes.
I reviewed it on my IG!

    3. I bought 2 of the oversized turtlenecks last year and really liked them! Do you know if the stripes on the wide stripe one are more white or ivory? Thanks!

    4. I forgot to say that I have all three colors from last year (clearance store $8.00) I feel like the ones from last year were more cream compared to this one. I wore the ones last year to death. They were so comfy. That is the main reason I bought this year's model.

    5. @Lauren the stripes are more white.
I have a pic on my IG

    6. I just ordered it. I remember loving it on you, Ina. :) Thank you, DD, for the style number, and thanks to all of you for the replies. You are the BEST!!

    7. I have the Grey/White (undyed Heathered Shale item B3380 ) one in a small for sale if anyone is interested. It's brand new, without tags. Never worn.

    8. Oh geez! Now I have to go to the store and check out that turtleneck! It looks really cute!

    10. I stopped in the store and bought the striped oversized turtleneck in navy/white. It's pretty cute. I bought my normal size because the arms are slim. Also picked up the colorful crystal chandelier earrings in moss. I saw a gorgeous gray haired women wearing them (on a blog) with an army green trench. I'm going to wear them with my army green shirts, vest, etc. Wanted to buy some new fatigue chinos, but I guess the only ones are online only. I really hate online only items. It seems I like a lot of those items and it's such a hassle doing the size guessing game. Oh well....

      Delete
    11. Lol, Stray Cay, didn't you say at 11.49 you don't need any of the three items in your shopping bag - one of them being the turtleneck. :)

I am one of the women who got on the "trimming your closet" bandwagon. No more endless purchases, just "because". Trust me, life transforming experience.

    12. HA! I'm busted! I didn't order the turtleneck in my basket....I went to the store and bought the oversized striped one. I did the huge purging.... 75% of my closet. A lot of it I hadn't worn in years and I lost 15 lbs. I do need to get some jeans/chinos that actually fit. I did the purging in every room of my house. It feels great to clean out and mostly you realize you don't need to replace anything you got rid of!

      Delete
    13. Also, thanks DD! For some reason, I didn't see your reply earlier. I was hoping they would be more of a white color since I have 2 of the 3 colors offered last year and they were more cream like you stated.

  14. I finally bit the bullet and purchased both the hthr sorbet (pink) and olive wool pencil skirts that I've been eyeing for some time yay! Now I have my eyes set on the wool zip pencils in pink and green yikes, not certain about the fit though, may need to try in store? And I think I'll wait till the price drops. Now I'll be on the lookout for a jewelry sale to get some statement pieces to get me thru the fall, necklace or two and some earrings perhaps.

  15. Does anyone know if they're offering more than 30% off sale items in store?

    1. Not at mine. There also seems to be a much closer match between on-line and in store prices.

  16. I've been waiting for the two-tier pleated skirt in the watercolor floral print to go on sale and it finally did. J. Crew got me to bite with this sale but my purchases have been very selective for some time. I feel like the fabrication of some items and their original price just don't match up.... at least for me and my wallet.

    1. I ordered that same skirt today once it went on sale. I am worried about the length but according to reviews it should be fine. I had a store send it to me and they said I could return it if it didn't work. I also like getting it from a store because you know they have it and you know it will ship quickly. The only draw back is if it is shopworn. But often, if you order online it ships from a store any way so going with the quicker surer thing.

    2. This skirt was in my local store a few weeks ago but the promo says it's for online only so I just placed an order online. Hopefully, it won't take too long to ship.

I tried this skirt on and it was maybe about 2 inches above my knee and I'm 5'4. I didn't feel like it was too short, especially compared to skirts that J.Crew label as minis.

    3. Thanks. Mine will be here tomorrow so hoping for the best. I already have several outfit options in mind for it.

  17. I did place an order today with this promo, 30% off and FS was nice. Ordered two pairs of sale shoes with another 30%. Metallic loafers and the Georgie Suede Penny Loafers. This was the last day for my birthday $25 but could not use online, so I called and the SA allowed me to use both. I find shoes are still pretty good quality at J Crew, hope these do not disappoint.

  19. I hate to do this, but -- ARG WTF IS WITH THESE NEW ARRIVALS. I've been a loyal shopper since my college days in the early 2000's, and I'm behind on the I-hate-the-new-JCrew spectrum (I only began losing interest last year). This is the first rollout that has actually offended me with how unappealing it is. The dresses and coats in particular - yuck! Sporty + frumpy + cheap looking is really not what I enjoy projecting. And ENOUGH with the dropped shoulder sweaters. I get that it's a trend, but can I get a few timeless options too??

    ReplyDelete
  20. I got the Chelsea rain boot in black. Hope it's not too narrow (one reviewer says it is). My feet are weird - very wide near the toes, but normal width otherwise.
