  1. Pinterest doesn't even have style guide loading yet....thanks to the JCA who posted the pics on instagram. seems we are the only ones on the ball!
will not b going for awhile. I have no reason to even do a sizing mission for later sales. just not dying to see or have any item yet.

    4. I got mine in the mail yesterday. ( It was fun seeing Lauren Hutton again.) Nothing in it got me too excited. I can't get worked up about their classics if I *know* they are going to be (vastly) inferior to previous generations. Mostly getting the guide yesterday made me VERY nostalgic for the old days of getting a JC catalog, looking at it over and over, saving it, etc. sigh.

  2. Why does wishlist feature not alert when something goes on sale? What is even the point? Now the items i wanted are out of stock. Typical J.crew.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It should show up on your wishlist with Sale underneath the item when it goes on sale. If the item is sold out when it goes on sale it will not show Sale underneath it. There is also a sort option on the wishlist where you can sort by items on sale. HTH.

      Delete
    2. Agree Tori! JessF - I think Tori mean something more proactive than us checking different tabs on the wishlist. JCrew sends out so much useless junk mail, sending our email alert or having some sort "blinking" emoji near wishlist link when your favs go one sale is actually useful.

      Delete
    3. That makes sense. Just curious what retailers do send notification if a wishlist item is on sale. The only other place I keep a list is Anthro and they do not send notification.

    4. I've gotten alerts from DSW about wishlist items going on sale, also about low stock items.

    5. If you have a Polyvore account, "like" the item there and it will email you when there is a price change.

      Delete
    6. If you pin something, pinterest will send you an email if the price drops.

      Delete
    7. you know what though, on second thought, that's only happened when I've pinned from crate&barrel or some other places like that. I'm not sure I've ever received an email when a JC item has dropped in price. I wonder if the retailer has to agree to participate in that alert system with pinterest. ?

  3. With my latest order, I have received a leaflet - 18 x 18 glossy, colorful paper promoting that shinypony thingy. There was a 2 page promo smacked in the middle of September guide, the emails, there is a link on your home page...
Don't you think I am aware of the promo, and would participate if I wanted already.

Why waste paper? I goes straight to trash. I presume there was a cost to print it, too - don't you sorta struggle with lack of cash lately?

    1. Same here! I can't wait to try on the petite, and be able to pair it with what color tops, and shoes.

I recently passed by a Marc Jacobs store here in SF, and the mannequin was wearing similar cut of pants like the Patio. J.Crew is on to something...

    2. Ladies I am correct in assuming there is wool version of the cotton patio pants in the next roll out? TIA

      Delete
    3. Yup! It's featured in the new style guide.

      Delete
    4. I am curious about the JCAs' anticipation for the Patio pant. The colors in wool do look pretty, but I'm on the shorter side with short legs, so I would be concerned that a wider crop would make me look like a hobbit. How do you plan to style them? Are sky-high heels the only option?

      Delete
    5. @Hexicon - JCrew styled it with the Sloane flats. I'm short too at 4'11, I got excited after seeing that it'll be offered in petite. I'm probably going to wear it with flats only because I can't walk too long in heels. Definitely play with proportions since it's cropped, and a little wide legged, I thought of wearing
a minimal top; satin blouse or a cashmere sweater...
But I get what you mean about wearing heels to elongate the legs when wearing the patio. :)

Why in the world would you refuse a regular customer that simple request when business is what it is? Stuff like this makes me crazy.

I received a Madewell catalog and hard as I try, I just can't get into it. Maybe it's just me but I prefer more polished styles, not as oversized and casual. Anyway, they kindly send me promos that I haven't been able to use so sharing here, two codes for $25 off $100 purchase:

  10. Has anyone seen the drapey silk v-neck blouse in the bronzed brown color at their store? I guess I'm late to the party on this one, but I saw it in my store in the petal pink color tonight. It's a great blouse and I purchased it in the pink color, but I love it in the bronzed brown. It's sold out in that color in almost all sizes online. Curious if anyone has seen it in stores in that color.

  14. Completely off topic but I had to share a J. Crew garment I found thrifting. It's "vintage" Crew. It's a belted khaki safari type jacket. The details on this jacket are amazing. There are so many panels each triple or more sewed along each edge. The belt loop in the back is a continuous long loop between two panels. Belt is finished on the ends with what looks like real leather. The metal burnished copper buttons say J Crew around them and even say J Crew on the underside! The tag is a long fabric piece say on one side "Since 1983 J. Crew ith "weathered" under it, in the middle is a symbol with "83" in it with laurel branches around it on each side and on the other side is the word "CHINO" in big letter with "Broken in" above it and "Classic Twill" under it. On the inside of the jacket there is a big printed symbol with words. They have faded but I think it says "Saine" with "savon (something faded)...sax" under it. Then there are more French words that have faded with drawings of pea pods on one side and something (can't read) France under that. I wish I could see more! I'm just so amazed by all the little details on the well loved jacket. I haven't seen a modern made garment like it anywhere.....oh, the good old days. Anyone got any info in this or can date it for me? I'm curious.

    1. The style number & season should be on the small, white tag sewn at the neck or another seam in the body of the jacket.

      Delete
    2. I think the style number and season may be a relatively new feature. Like last 15 years or so. If it's older than that, it may not be on there.

      Delete
    3. I've never seen the style number/season on anything older than like, 2004. Some of the "vintage" JC I've come across while thrifting (which has a cream or green interior tag with the oarsman on it) has only had the RN7xxxxx number on the inside. My husband's old JC stuff from the late 90's/early 00's didn't have any season/year on the tag... but most of them were washed so many times, the tag may have disintegrated!

      Delete
    4. Silver lining.....this item has that type of tag and the style number is RN77388. Is there an archive of all J. crew fashions? That would be so interesting and informative! And yes I did buy it! I was so excited to find it! I find newer things that I actually recognize from the past few years, but I knew this jacket was old.

  16. This is OT, but wanted to let you know that after I posted a negative review of the wool melton cape I got a nice e-mail from someone at JC. I had commented in he review that I really wanted to like the cape and was considering taking it to my tailor, and JC offered to reimburse me for alterations cost.

Hey, they're trying. I had really wanted to see the cape as evidence they're turning design around, but the execution had technical problems in the sizing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's good to hear, Hexicon. I was bummed that the cape didn't work for me (I'm too petite @ 4'11).

When I ordered it, that was when they had problems with their shipping. I emailed them 4 times begging them to just cancel the order, because I already had tried it at the store. The package was lost in transit, and for the hassle, they gave me a $25 gift card. And they said they'll wave an overnight shipping towards my next order. Good customer service!

    2. I am a solid 5'9, and it is a no-go for me. As classic as a cape is, so many retailers seem to have it this fall season - a fad of Fall 15? - and for that reason alone it is a pass for me personally.

      Delete
    3. I'm 5'9 and the cape was ok on me but not a love. The color is absolutely stunning though!

This last winter I gave a bad review on a sweater and CS emailed me and asked for my opinion on what they could do better on their sweaters. (I responded by recommending using higher quality wool, less synthetic blends and fewer dropped shoulders and cropped, boxy styles)

I did appreciate their willingness to cultivate information on how they can improve. Hopefully they will start implementing all of our collective advice!

    1. I saw that in my store on Friday. The colors are absolutely gorgeous (the lilac and gold), but the fit was a little too boxy on me. It's a really exaggerated drop shoulder, too. I'm a little "top heavy," so the shape was wrong for me. It's too bad because the colors were stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous. (If we are talking about the same sweater -- this one didn't really seem like cashmere, but the description of the color and the gold appliqué on the shoulder sounds the same).

      Delete
    2. Yeah it must be the same sweater! Probably not cashmere, but a very soft wool blend. I agree, I hate drop shoulder sweaters too, but this one looked good on me.

  20. OK, I haven't been checking the JC site daily because the promos sucked, but when did all the sale become FINAL SALE?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Final sale just started with this promo, glad I made all my purchases with the 40 and 50% off without final sale. I don't mind a final sale with 60 or 75% off items, but 25%, not going to happen. I can wait.

      Delete
    2. Agree... But Maybe they are getting ready for 75% off again.... Hard to buy with such low promo when they had 60-75% before...

      Delete
    3. I agree with you both. I will not do final sale for a measly 25% off! I have looked at a few things but not buying!

      Delete
    4. I had a cart full of tops and sweaters (waiting for better than 30% off). When I saw FINAL SALE under every item, I just cleared my cart and never looked back. Bought a great button up shirt at BR for additional 50% off and it's NOT final sale. Everything I try from J Crew varies widely size wise so I'm not doing final sale. My J Crew store closed over a year ago so I can't try things on like I used to. Just HATE final sale!

    5. I got excited about the BR fall presentation last year. Those are clothes that have come out in the store recently. Let me say that the clothes don't live up to the presentation. I think Marisa has great ideas and I love her styling. Unfortunately BR goes cheap on materials all the time and nothing looks or feels good. I did buy a pair of jeans I wanted after seeing them in last year's presentation. Of the 7 outfits I had saved, none were actually wearable . . . unless polyester and acrylic are your thing.

    6. I like all the classic inspired pieces...the jackets, the shirtdress, the long skirt.....but I'll have to see them in person. Especially what type of fabric is used.

    7. @Desert Flower - Ive never followed up with checking the clothes go from runway to store.
It is sad to read the clothes doesn't live up to its expectations. And I'm not a fan of synthetic fabrics, too. Everytime I go in a BR store I can't get in to their stuff. The look of the store, the image they're portraying, the clothes, the designs...
I like JCrew more. Even with all their missteps, I love everything about the company.

      Delete
    8. BR seems way too trendy recently. They used to be great for business or business casual, but I can't find many work-appropriate things there anymore. Case in point: I ordered a really pretty polka dot blouse, but the side slits came up to above my waistline.

      Delete
    9. Agree! Since Piperlime closed, I need a new place to use my Gap rewards dollars. I went in BR to check thing out for the first time in a long time. I found a couple things but no real must haves. I miss their colabs: Trina Turk, Milly, Marimekko!

    10. Banana has gotten so bad lately. Their quality has declined worse than J.Crew in my opinion. I know a lot of people love Webb but I'm definitely not a fan of what she's done so far at BR. Those bags with phrases are just awful.

I'm so frustrated because I have shopping budget dollars to spend and no one seems to want them!

    13. I agree with Desert Flower on BR. I stopped by a store the other day and the few things I was interested in seeing IRL looked pretty awful in terms of fabric. Plus a lot of the styles seemed a bit last year (like camo sweaters, hi-lo hems etc.). I tried two sweaters but between the boxy, weird fit and the fabrics I left empty-handed. I really like the turtleneck tunic but it is cotton and I am afraid that for the price I won't be able to wear it past September.

  22. I have a question for anyone with an October style guide. I can't figure this out from looking at the instagram style guide which I really appreciate those that posted it. Thank you. If you open up the magazine to the page that says The Classic V-Neck Cardigan, it's the herringbone blazer on the opposite page. I'd like more info. about that blazer please. Is it a Rhodes blazer $228? And I'm not able to tell if it's powder blue or gray. To me it looks like it's in the blue family, like a steel gray/blue. That's the only thing that catches my eye.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ok, I just realized I didn't look through all the pages. I see another picture with a different model wearing a similar looking powder blue blazer and that one I can read it says it's the Herringbone Rhodes blazer but in this picture it looks like it has silver buttons and in the other picture opposite the v-neck cardigans, the buttons look like tortoise shell. Is it a different blazer? I think it also comes in a copper color which I think I saw in the group shot of models wearing all different blazers.

    2. When is the new stuff supposed to be online, anyone know? Thanks!

      Delete
    3. Thank you anon! I am looking forward to that blazer, I like those buttons better than the gold ones. I would imagine the new clothes will be online in October or maybe even the last week of Sep. if I had to guess. I have a question...when something says 'out of stock' on the JC website, does that mean it's gone for good or do they order it in again and it will say backorder. I don't understand how it works. I managed to get a Tangy Olive skirt in my size and now it shows it's out of stock. So that means those people my size missed the boat? Seems so early in the season for something to sell out.

    4. Can anyone comment on the blazers at the wool (I guess they're wool?) at the Factory? Therre is a herringbone one (e0350) and a green one (e0357). I'm considering them. The Crew hasn't offered a school boy style yet, and I don't know if they ever will since they think the Regent is such a classic. I have a really nice black tipped in cream blazer from like 5 years ago. My Factory store is not very close to my house so I don't shop there often. Any kind of review would be appreciated. Thanks!
