  1. I ordered the brulee necklace. I'm so excited about the light mocha tone of it.

Review on Gigi's Gone Shopping of the vintage scarf dress & downtown field in burgundy (owner!).

    1. I have that brulee necklace, Gigi, and really like it. It's a beautiful neutral you can wear year round!

  2. The collection zip front leather shirt is calling to me. That price! It is so wearable though. Heavy sigh. Do I bite the bullet? I will have to keep an eye on it and see how it sells. I haven't liked an item this much in a very long time.

I really like the patio pant in wool. Bummed they are excluded from the promo. Probably worth the regular price.

The only new pump option with an-all day heel is a Dulci in mermaid glitter. I am not 5 years old so those don't appeal to me, LOL!

    1. The Dulcimin mermaid glitter are not new. I have a pic of them on my IG. They are not really glittert, more gold-ish IRL.

  3. I bit and bought a couple of things: buffalo check boy shirt, matchstick cords, boat neck sweater... basics more or less. And to help keep the closet clean, I'm doing a one in one out thing so a couple of older things are getting tossed into donate pile.

  4. Ordered the Collection Silk Wool Floral top in painterly floral, Wool Patio in navy petite - bummed that there's only a few colors in petite, and the Embroidered Satin Mary Janes - fun shoes, saw Eva Chen on IG wearing it, and it's on JCrew's blog. Not sure if I'm keeping these since they were ordered at full price, I wanted to see how it fits.

    1. To add, I also like the Collection Marled Crewneck Sweater (at $228?! ouch), the Two Tier Dress in Italian Stretch Wool in Smoke Aubergine.

I hate myself for saying this but I am mildly attracted to the Chartreuse Patio Pant. It's such a trendy color though, that I know I'll be wearing it for one season. It looks cute paired with that marled crewneck.

I was looking forward to seeing that A-line tie skirt with a slit on the front, shown at NYFW back in February. Will it be in next month's roll-out? Looking to see most of the stuff launched already...but no standout pieces from the runway.

The feeling I got from this roll-out is that they did scale back on their stuff. It felt quiet. If that made any sense. I have to remind myself that these still have Mora's design aesthetic, and we really won't see changes till Spring '16.

    2. Hi JSR, I ordered those satin Mary Jane shoes too; I stumbled upon them in the blog post and had them on my order list. I ordered some sale stuff too early this morning before it became final sale again. The collection cashmere swing sweater (C7405) looks like a good staple for winter that I can wear with slacks, leather crop pants or a pencil skirt for work & skinny jeans for a more casual look. Reviews were very good & I'm hoping both colors (navy & grey) look as cute IRL. If the Mary Janes work, I can totally see wearing those with this sweater. Lucked up on collection perforated leather shell in navy for $70 + 25% off. Also, ordered endless white shirt since it finally popped back @ $30 + 25% off. Hope these work out since I'm focused on fall and winter @ this point

    3. Hi Mygoddy - Yea, the mary jane in that material/print is not really my style, but i'm going out of my comfort zone, also curious how it looks and fits IRL. I am also inspired seeing Jenna wear the heeled version on http://www.thecoveteur.com/jenna-lyons/ ; I can't do heels, the flat version is a good alternative. Can you believe it, all sizes are sold out!

You got some good sale deals! :)

      Delete
    4. I love a good sale! Thanks for the Jenna article; hadn't thought about pairing shoes with yellow, but I can see wearing a mustard pencil skirt & striped shirt for the fall. I really like her heels & would wear them, but in this case I prefer the flats.

  6. OT- Husband went up north get his car serviced and went to Westfarms mall (West Hartford, CT) to kill time. He came home and surprised me with a pair of Madewell oxfords. The Jess oxfords were marked down to 49.99 and they were running 30% off promo in the store. They are navy and adorable!

  7. Some of the prices seem a little high, even with the promo, I might wait to see if anything comes off before buying. Especially the pants, I'm glad for full length pants but $178 seems like a bit much.

  8. The only thing I want (e6466, Striped boat-neck T-shirt) is excluded from promo.

    1. I like two pieces : regent in cashmere and the double faced cashmere top. But for a $800-900/a piece, I'll try to get in on sale....Otherwise, I share your view.

      Delete
  9. Is this the much anticipated new rollout? Hummm.....didn't see anything inspired or "going back to their roots". I saw some pretty hideous stuff....that leather peasant top. It's a crying shame a cow gave it's life for that. How about those fringe jacket things. Ugh. I didn't see one thing I'd bother getting dressed and driving to the store to look at. Same ol', same ol'. And that's not good. I didn't expect to see much, but I thought I'd see one or two things I'd want to look at....how disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. With a few exceptions, I thought it was pretty traditional for a rollout. I was focused on outerwear, so perhaps that's why I feel differently.

I don't begrudge J.Crew the desire to dabble in trend (fringe is hot right now). It's not my cup of tea, but it may suit someone else. As long as they keep that exploration limited (teddy bear jacket I'm looking at you), it seems like it's worth the risk to attract new folks and/or keep their more trend-focused customers happy.

      Delete
    2. oh lordy....that teddy bear jacket! Ha! Is slimy feeling faux teddy bear fur for clothing in style? I haven't seen it anywhere else.....some trend is expected, of course. But how about trend with TASTE and and restraint. I bet I could find that teddy bear jacket over at H & M or Forever 21 for $19.95.

  10. Definitely some likes but everything I'm interested in is excluded from the promo! Wool patio pants, excursion vest in grey flannel (I bought this FP in the store last week), the windowpane cocoon coat ($425 YIKES!). Guess I'll play the waiting game now.

    1. The windowpane cocoon looks nice. What's up with the high price?, yikes, indeed!

    2. Hi Mel - Can you please post a review of it after you've tried it. I am obsessing over that coat. It's just so expensive, and it doesn't even have sleeves! I love how its styled on "Looks We Love". So fab. All it needs to complete the outfit is a Prada brooch from this season. swoon...

  12. You guys are making me want to try the wool patio pant. I'm afraid I'd look silly, though. I'm 5'7" so I think they'd hit me in a funky spot. Hm...

    ReplyDelete

    1. Taylor, I'm 5'8" and if I try the pants I think I'm going to do the talls as they're a 27" inseam and I think that will be a good cropped length vs the 25." I can totally see you rocking these!!

    4. I'm 5'9" and tried on the patio pants (summer version) and didn't mind the shorty length....but that was a summer pant. Not sure I'd want that much skin open on a cold, rainy day in winter. At 5'7" I think you would not have any problem.

  13. Almost everything I am liking is not on promotion. I did order the jeweled Gemma flats over the weekend and used my rewards card and emailed today for the 25% price adjustment since they were eligible for the promotion. Like others, I am trying to be more discerning about what I'm adding to my closet as I packed up the summer clothes, many of which I never touched this year (including things I purchased at the beginning of the season).

That being said, I like the black plaid regent blazer, the two-tier suiting dress, Preston pant in windowpane plaid (so glad to see several styles of LONG pants!) and the cropped pant in wool flannel. I'll probably look ridiculous in the cropped pants but I want to try them and I really like the look featuring these pants with the wool long vest coat and the leopard heels. I wish the wool patio pants had come in a shade of grey, I'm not liking any of the current colors offered. The Preston pants are already showing low stock in my size so I may at least grab that and the dress at full price and see how the prices do over the next few weeks.

I am pretty much set for outerwear as I grabbed another cocoon coat and the Chateau parka on popback sale at the very end of the winter next year...they're still wrapped in the plastic waiting for this year's winter.

  14. Not very much I'm excited about at all but I do really like the look of the No2 Pencil in tweed. I currently only own one JCrew pencil skirt, in the heather acorn, not sure I'll get enough use out of two of these in rotation but I do like them with a chambray shirt or a fitted sweater... I just have to have a look at this particular wool because I am loving the look of the pattern. It seems to be a sort of cobalt blue with camel and either black or brown? I'm going to order it with the free ship/25%.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That looks like a good pick--not colors I wear too much but I want someone else to enjoy it, along with the houndstooth cape. I like photo where they have styled the models in jeans with the blue, rust, and camel jackets.

      Delete
    2. Dani....that tweed fabric looks beautiful and I WOULD buy a skirt made in it, but I know I would not wear a pencil skirt style. I'm just not enough of a "lady" to wear them! I find them so constricting and uncomfortable. I can hardly wait to take it off at the end of the day! I would love to have that fabric in the A-Line style they have done for a couple of years in wool solids. I have that skirt in grey and camel and I love them. They are very flattering, comfortable, look great with boots and oxfords and fitted cardigans and most importantly I can walk in them! Please give us a review when you receive it.....I always respect your opinion.

  15. Proof that I will pay full price if it is something I really want - just ordered those wool patio pants in petite in two colors (blue stone, which looks like a blueish grey, and the soft chartreuse).

I called and got measurements for the P10, P12 and the regular 10 (I have the cotton patios in a regular 10), and the P12 is closest to the regular 10, so that's what I ordered.

I love that JCrew is so good about giving item measurements - ordering pants without trying them on would be impossible for me otherwise. Fingers crossed for a good fit!

    Replies
    1. I agree. JCrew CS is the best about helping decide between sizes. I called to get some advice about sizing for the Regent Blazer the other day. The CS person went out of her way to track down info on the School Boy, so I could compare the two.
I made the mistake of calling BR to ask for measurements on a sweater. I didn't realize they don't have any specific information about individual items.

    2. Aaaaand I just went back and also ordered a no. 2 pencil skirt in the gold/olive color. (At least the skirt was 25% off, and the reviews of this fall's skirts are very positive.)

  17. I see that during those rollouts of new stuff, one is better off browsing sale sections - over 3100 hundred items with free ship on any order, if only that additional off was better. 25% doesn't cut it anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Digging the painterly floral stuff and the full length pants options look noce. But I'm just not conditioned to buy things full price or even 25% off anymore, and J.Crew's pants never fit quite right on me.

I hemmed and hawed over the collection lace circle skirt for days but couldn't pull the trigger at final sale. Final sale was gone today, so I'm going to try it...but I'm annoyed that thejeans I bought final sale on Sunday are now not final sale at the same price.

I think I'm going to call CS and ask them to remove the final sale.

I ordered a few pair of 1035 trousers over the weekend, the Excursion vest in wool flannel, and today, the Field Mechanic Jacket, several tissue turtlenecks as well as striped oversized turtleneck tees, and two relaxed wool turtleneck sweaters with rib trim.

Looking for the Biella Tassel Loafers in grey in a size 8 but they are sold out right now.

  24. Even though this is still a Tom Mora roll-out, I'm cautiously optimistic. There's a few things to consider. I like the two tier wool dress in aubergine and the faux leather dress (might be terrible but I'm curious), the wide leg jumpsuit, the trousers (FINALLY), the matchsticks, the patio pants, the Sloan jacquard flats and the Crosley totes. I'll see about the leather on the Crosley's - I haven't liked the JC leather recently. From the last roll-out, I'm considering the Donegal dress in green.

I'm sad about the uninspired boot selection, the limited jacket offerings and the lack of cool prints. And not a single sweater is a must-have for me. In general I think there is too much pink and gray in the mix here.

But things may be turning around.

    1. Oh my goodness. I can see some individual pieces that might be good but the styling is killing me. The eye doesn't know where to land on some of those outfits. When you see a simpler one, it's almost jarring. Like it belongs in a different show. I guess there's no way to style a full length rainbow striped sequin skirt than to go full-on wackadoo.

    2. Desert Flower I do love the blue/white stripe off the shoulder top & pants. Jenna is wearing the top today. (Maybe the pants too but I've only seen a head and shoulders shot so I'm not sure)

  33. I delights me to have something nice to say about J. Crew! Today as I was walking by the store....yah, I hadn't planned on going in...I saw a herringbone blazer right up front by the door. I try it on and...yah...love it! Turns out it's on the elusive October catalog cover. I love the color combo....brown, navy, black, bright blue . Also like the scale of the tweed. Really stands out. I think you could also wear it with olive green and burgundy. It's the Campbell style....I thought it was the Regent because they have it styled with the collar up online and in the catalog. Fits like a School Boy (IMO). I got my regular size and can wear a thin sweater or denim shirt under it. Warning....if you are buying this in the store it does not ring up 25%...but I asked and we checked the website and it qualifies. Also picked up the merino/cashmere V-neck button cardigan in burgundy. I love these and now have 5 of them. Also a big thumbs up on them merino turtleneck which I got in the mail this week. I got medium because I didn't want it tight and i'st perfect and best thing...the actually turtle neck isn't tight! I purchased it in black, navy and light gray and am going to check it see what colors it comes in.

    2. I have to say, none of it is really to my liking. The styling seems cuckoo (and sometimes really sloppy). I like the yellow skirt and blue top look. I like the gingham shoes. I have the blue Gingham Altrazzura dress from 2011 (one of my all time favorite pieces) so I'm happy to see that'll be back in a big way. The off the shoulder trend is fine in small doses, but J. Crew seems to have bananas with it. Same with the wide leg culottes. I'm actually not a fan of the look at all. I don't know. I'll look again, but the sherbet colors and the styling have kind of ruined it for me.

When Somsack came on board over the summer as Women's head designer, designs for Spring '16 was almost done..and you know what that means, what you saw yesterday is still Mora's vision. Oy vey! So we really won't see Somsack's designs till February, for fall '16 NYFW.
I'm sure the fabrics and construction are nice IRL, but I too wasn't as wowed by what was shown.
