Sneak Peek Into J.Crew's July Catalog

A big "thanks!" to Kathryn who shared these four upcoming July catalog images with us. (Just click on any of the images for a larger view.)

From the initial images, can we expect a boat-theme? {exciting!} Honestly, I love me some nautical inspired catalogs. That is what J.Crew does best! :)

I am really crushing on the handbags. I cannot wait to see them in-person. They both look like they could be used for years to come!

I like what I am seeing so far, but there is something about the photos themselves. They don't seem as bright as they could be. They almost have a grey/cool tone to them. Bring on the vibrant photographs!

On another note, these images must mean that new arrivals are just around the corner. Should we expect to see them at J.Crew stores and online next week? {yey!} Although, it seems like June just came out. No complaints here though! I love new arrivals! :)

What are your thoughts on the upcoming catalog from J.Crew? Do you like the clothes and styling? Are you excited about new arrivals coming soon?

  1. Oh! Loving the preppy look! Is this a sign J.Crew is going back classic, stylish pieces!

  2. Count me among those who love J. Crew best when Crew does preppy! Also, maybe this means the Siesta and/or Mirabel dress(es) will go on sale?

  3. Looking better! But I still want some nice print tops, preferably in a silk/cotton blend. Shells or short-sleeved.

  9. When do you think these clothes will hit stores? and why oh why will I receive the catalogue like 2 months after the fact... harumph...

  10. Hmm, they add new arrivals to the site every other Thursday, so there should be an update due next Thursday. I imagine that'll still be a June update as they don't put up the next month's catalog until closer to the end of the month. But with the every-other-Thursday pattern, the new arrival updates are bound to shift earlier and earlier every month as there are more days in a month (30 or 31) than there are days in the update cycle (multiples of 14 days = 28 days in this case). So it's possible the July rollout will happen earlier than in the last few months. But they have to "reset" at some point so the next-month's-rollout doesn't shift too early and I noticed that sometime during the holidays this year the expected biweekly update came late so the new catalog release was shifted once again to the actual start of that month, rather than sometime the previous month.

  11. The leather on that big brown purse looks kinda cheap :(

But I am excited for new stuff!

  12. life as a cat, your analysis is amazing! And it cracks me up too because it's just the level of Crew-induced OCD I can relate to. :) Should I admit that I have a little spreadsheet where I note the sale section counts so that I can easily tell the next time I visit the sale section if new things have been added? (It's really hard to recall numbers in the wee hours of the morning.)

BTW, very cute picture, cats (and dogs too) are just so special and the do the sweetest cutest things!

  13. I LOVE the color of that dress, the Rumi. I am dying for some more color choices in the pinks and purples. I also love anything with eyelet like that short sleeve top. I also like the bags. I wish my B & M carried bags. I need to see the leather in person. Thanks so much for the sneak peak !

  14. I thought the last photo was something from the Factory website. Those 3 tops are identical to previous releases.

I'm looking forward to the first fall catalog. I hope it's a goodie.

  15. Tamara - Oh yes yes, I've been known to take data-scrutinizing to nerdy extremes (moreso now with my new blog!), having done things like make spreadsheets and calculate statistics for scores on board games that my friends and I play :). So now I guess you've got nerdy JC company, albeit without the expensive glasses. I'm impressed with your sale numbers spreadsheet - I keep a mental tab when I visit the sale section (which can be multiple times a day! :-/) but I didn't' think anyone else made a spreadsheet for their J. Crewsing. Though gigiofca does a pretty thorough job with her sale item updates and user pictures on her blog.

And that cat! If you weren't already acquainted, that happens to be the world famous Maru, a Youtube phenomenon and internet celebrity. But if only he were mine instead! His claims to fame are thus and thus, and he has a blog as well.

  16. Love the Rumi dress and I can't wait to see the new bags IRL!

  17. These look promising! And I agree about the tone of the photos, they're lacking the warmth/glow of what I've become used to seeing. Hmmm.

  18. JCrewJD, I noticed that too. It looks like the same leather as the Factory Campo. I'm getting the feeling that perhaps the quality is taking a dive on the handbags now too.

  20. life as a cat thank you so much for the link to Maru's videos. My husband and I were laughing like crazy. What a cutie !

  21. Oh my god I just watched "I am Maru" and cracked up! What a sweet cat!! I have to watch the other vidoes. Thanks, life as a cat!

Let me add another element of my Crew obsession, which isn't really limited to my J Crew clothes but J Crew always has the best product pictures: I painstakingly collected ALL of the pictures of ALL of my J Crew clothes and shoes. For many I had to hunt for product numbers and color codes. One sweater took me several hours of hard work, including blowing up a blurry picture of a tag in an eBay listing. :) I did eventually figure it out and got rush of pride, albeit short-lived as I looked at the clock and thought "Why the h*ll did I just spend 2+ hours doing this?". And then after the great image collection had been built, a hard drive crash! No backup since compiling the collection! I had to redo it all. This was, BTW, when I realized that I had something like 48 J Crew cardigans. :)

  22. Hi, anyone know when the Canvas Espadrilles came out? It's a fairly new style right? Thanks.

  23. I'm feeling the tides blow our way ladies! & by that I mean I can feel the preppiness start to come to the surface. I love the long sweater and pencil skirt look. Jenna, thank goodness. I want the prep back.

  24. @JCee Tomato,
The canvas espadrilles, 37725, have been out for a little while now. I think they came out with the first Spring release. :)

  25. I agree with Gigi, bring on Fall!
Although, is that the new link necklace that we saw in the Fall preview in the pic with the pencil skirt?

  26. It all kind of looks the same to me...

  27. I'm not impressed. I thought I was looking at a Talbots catalog until I read on. Maybe I need to see more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. hmmmm... I don't see this as preppy but sort of uninspired--maybe just need to see in person. Do they still have their amazing stylist--Gayle Spannaus?

    ReplyDelete
  29. La, you don't really mean that, do you? Talbots clothes and styling look nothing like this, Talbots is much more formal. Heck, they've got a model wearing mid-calf shorts and high heels! Probably pearls too, I can't recall.

J Crew doesn't need to be cutting edge. I for one am hoping for some very wearable clothes. But I'm hoping to see some lightweight merino cardigans, the cotton ones are too limp.
