This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
I am loving the whisper linen boatneck tee. It has a lovely drape and seems easy to dress up or down. I have the dark gray color and the blush color. I wish I knew what to do with the bright peacock blue color but wasn't sure. I know that particular color of blue is very in for spring, too. I took a small even though in a lot of JC tees I take an XS.
ReplyDeleteI am also loving my new Back-zip tanks. I have the blue striped sequin version as well as the desert pink. Took an XS in these so, the armholes wouldn't be too low.
Also, have they suddenly changed the twill minnies? I feel like I tried them on a long time ago and they were huge in the waist, and small in the calves but just randomly tried on a pair last week and ended up getting the black and khaki colors. They finally fit normally. (And I haven't changed)

ReplyDeleteTo make a very long story short...... the provence pink Emellines are very beautiful! They are much more rosy than my provence pink Jenna's cardigan which has a distinct orange-y tone. The black trim with the provence pink makes these Emellines look less sweet than the aged driftwood version. The fit is like the other straight-heel platform peep toes, I wear a 6.5 in Collins, Lindy, Odeon, Flannery, etc, and the 6.5 Emellines fit perfectly EXCEPT for the top ankle strap. It's exactly the same length as the lower ankle strap, which is fine if your leg is shaped like a pipe but mine is bigger where the top strap hits so that strap is too short. I'm going to have to do an alteration, I'm mulling my options.
ReplyDeletei just received the striped boatneck sweater.i took my usual size in sweaters(xs)and it fit TTS.
ReplyDeleteit is a thin summer sweater and really like it with my skinny jeans and also boyfriend cut jeans.
it is perfect for cool nights or rainy spring days.
i got the alabaster blue and it is a true navy.
Subscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been a Perfect Fit Tee fan forever, and I recently purchased 3Perfect Fit Polos. I love them! They are wonderful for all the reasons any Perfect Tee is - substantial fabric, slim fit - and I have been loving them for work with a Pencil Skirt. They're comfortable, look dressy and they don't require ironing.
ReplyDeletePurchased the Campbell Oxfords in Liberty Floral off ebay. LOVE them. Very comfortable to wear all day. I wear an 8.5 but bought 9 so that my daughter could wear too. They are a tad big on me but not so much that they slipped around on my foot. Also fit my daughter well - and she too loves them. I wore with chambray Dorrie and she wore with rolled up jeans. Cute versatile shoes.
ReplyDeletesub!
ReplyDeleteI love the striped lace-up tee. The cotton is quite thick and substantial, and I love the slim but still slightly boxy cut. The cotton tape ribbon is a nice detail. It is TTS - I took a size Small and normally take a size 6 in the dress tops.
ReplyDeleteI finally received the Dorrie skirt in modern red (orange IRL) but was disappointed on all counts. The fabric felt a bit rough, and it runs a little small - I would recommend sizing up. This one is going back.
I also received the featherweight cashmere cardigan in "lemon pulp". i have been hunting a yellow cardigan for a while and grabbed this when it popped back in my size. Unfortunately th colour IRL was totally different from the colour on my computer screen - it was an almost neon bright acidic greenish yellow. Very disappointed again.
Happily, the classic café capris worked out really well for me. I went through a bit of a saga with them, ordering the reg. 6 (too long, too big), then the petite 8 (too big), then the petite 6. The petite 6's are perfect - so I think the sizing on these pants is a little generous. I normally take a reg. 6 in dress bottoms.
I don't like the new linen tees- they are really scratchy and look like old tees that have been washed a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe vintage tees, on the other hand, are amazing. They are so soft and comfortable. I did have a problem where some of the sizing was weird, different colors seemed to fit differently, so make sure to try on!
ruffles, I love the perfect-fit polo as well, the fit is very flattering and they are really comfortable. The fabric is quite thin though, on par with the current perfect-fit tees. I actually have some of the old perfect-fit polos without the buttons on the placket and they are about twice as thick and still wearable. The new ones just seem delicate to me so I'll wash and dry with care. I still like this shirt though and hope they will bring it back in fall colors because I would buy more.

ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of the scoop-neck tees--perfect for showing off a statement necklace or a great scarf. My two most recent purchases in the Athletic Orange and Hampton Yellow are going back, however. Those can both be tricky colors to wear, so I am careful about which tones I purchase, and IMO the colors were not at all as depicted.
ReplyDeleteI love the About Town T-shirt Dress. It has a casual, but not slouchy fit, the fabric is soft and holds its shape well. It works with or without a belt and with almost any style of shoe or sandal. I love t-shirt and polo dresses for summer and this one is a favorite already.
ReplyDeletexoxo, yes! I totally agree that the newer Perfect Fit Tees are thinner than they used to be, Polos included. I also treat them as delicates when I wash them. I find the thinner weight ok because for me, they are comfortable for layering and in warmer weather. I also love to roll up the sleeves "J. Crew" style, looks very cute.
ReplyDeleteI finally bit on the floral silk driving scarf when it went on sale, and agree with everyone that it's looove. Wearing it right now -- so pretty and fresh and soft.

ReplyDeleteruffles, I will have to try rolling up the sleeves that does sound cute, thanks for mentioning it! Thinner-weight fabric is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for summer.

ReplyDeleteOrdered the Fete sequin dress in my regular size and sized up in the Lady Lace sweater and they were BOTH way too big. : ( So back they went....
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Edie bag! Bought the red (flame), it is a true red IRL on my monitor it looks more coral online.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Peplum Blouse? I'd love to hear about the fabric and cut, specifically if the waist hits at the proper spot. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy Short Sleeve Merino Hoodie and Petites Victoires t-shirt should be arriving today; I'll be back later with a review!
ReplyDeleteI bought the cropped trenchlet with my rewards card. I love it! The linen is quite substantial and it is fully lined with a wonderful satin acetate.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great with a black pencil skirt. I did take some pictures, planning to post on it later in the week.
OT when is the last day to redeem rewards? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNew Roll Out...Went to my local store.. Lots of pretty dresses (I have my eye on two flame colored ones), new suede ballet flats (royal blue & I believe purple ones) cute but, not sure if I like a rubber bottom shoe. New colors of cafe Capri 's. Lots of color!
ReplyDeleteI received the Perfect Shirt in Schoolboy Madras last week and it is even better than I had hoped. I had only briefly seen the shirt IRL at the Michigan Ave. store and didn't have time to try it on, so I was a bit concerned when I ordered it that I might be disappointed. I'm happy to say that it lives up to its name and is indeed perfect! The fabric is substantial, not tissue thin like a lot of the shirts, and the colors are beautiful. I tried it with many different colors of pants and sweaters and it seems to go with everything. It was more than I like to spend for a Perfect Shirt on sale, but I really feel I got my money's worth.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for linen pants for summer, and tried both the Veranda Pant and the Cafe Trouser (both in petite 2) in linen. For reference, I am 5'1", 26" waist, 36" hip.
ReplyDeleteThe Veranda pant fit pretty well, but it's rather high waisted. The front was fine, but in back it looked like my backside went on forever. Kind of a 70's look IMO. Not my cup of tea!
The Cafe Trouser in linen was much more flattering on me. It fits well through the hip, but a little wide at the waistband, so I'll either need a belt or an alteration. I ended up keeping that one (in the black color).
Lauren, I believe the last day is June 15.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have a review of the high waist skinny jean? I haven't bought jcrew jeans in probably 5 years, I have no idea how they fit anymore.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the suiting pieces have been reviewed before, but I recently purchased the Super 120's pencil skirt in the peacock blue color.
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous shade of teal (nice blue-green mix), a good thin wool that I can certainly work in all seasons and the length is flattering at just above the knee. I think this color might be popular because it went on back-order right after I bought it and now it is only available in certain sizes.
You can see pics on my blog >here.
Can anyone tell me please how the double serge cotton pencil skirts hold up in the wash? I love the way they look new and want one in every color, but before I commit I would love to know what they're like after they've been washed and dried once (or several times). Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThe Mailroom just delivered my Short Sleeve Merino hoodie!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful sweater. Lovely weight, super smooth and soft, and finished very nicely with a wide rib band at the hem. I'd say it's one of the nicest sweaters I've seen from JC in a long time.
I tried it on quickly in the staff bathroom...unfortunately I'm not sure about the size or how it looks on me. It *feels* generous (I got a size small figuring it was more like a sweatshirt than a regular sweater) and my first thought was that I could have sized down. But I won't know for sure until I take it home and style it with some of my own pieces.
I'm also not sure it's flattering on me, it may be the short sleeves or higher neck, but I feel like it makes me look top-heavy.
I really want to love it, hopefully when I try it later at home I will like it better.
I think most of last week's review post was lost be ause of the blogger problems. I posted about the Jane dress and for those who didn't see that review, I panned it. It's ten el not silk as stated on the website. It has a stiff sort of ribbed fabric that doesn't lay nicely. I sent it back the same day.
ReplyDeleteIn the same order I received the perfect fit button sleeve striped tee and I love it. I got the faded black and just ordered it in another color.
Hi ladies,
ReplyDeleteI just got the neon gingham perfect shirt and styled it here for those interested in checking it out! :)
kimchi girl
Amelia,
ReplyDeletemy double serge cotton skirt is from '09, and has held up well to washing (cold water with either woolite or 7th gen on delicate cycle, then hang dry).
Asymetrical striped cardigan. Flimsy feel for a top that goes over something. I took it back. It's on sale in the store, but I didn't even bother to check the price. I also got the camo-studded clutch purse on the last 20% off promo and it was on promo too, but the 20 off applied so it wasn't too bad a price. Love this thing! I've wanted to do the clutch look but I need a shoulder strap and a bigger purse and this is fabulous! It's really nice leather, and I love the stud detail. I admit, it's super trendy, but I'm almost wondering if it swings it back toward timeless? (nice rationalization, huh?) It's super cute. Recommend!
ReplyDelete@Amelia: I could be wrong, but I thought the double serges were dry clean only? I would be hesitant to put wool in the wash.
ReplyDeleteA little OT - I apologize - but...
ReplyDeleteMy local consignment store had the campo di fiori dress in size XS! I called first thing today but they had already sold it - bummer.
Also OT - i love stalking J Crew on Ebay but why, oh why, do people take pictures of themselves in the clothes that feature more breast than clothing or with no bottoms on? There is a cute floral shirt but I can't even bring myself to bid on it because the girl posing in it has the shirt on and just underwear on bottom. What? I'm confused...
OperaRach - lol!! ITA with you on that one. I don't want to see the seller or anyone else wearing the item I'm considering buying. Call me nitpicky, I suppose...
ReplyDeleteteeny,
ReplyDeleteyes there is a wool version, and also a cotton version for spring/summer.
I grabbed a quick look at a few new things at Rock Center pics and comments here , and I also want to mention that I am loooving my Madewell Sidewalk Wedges so much that I may get another pair in another color! I went up ½ size (why is this so much harder to do in shoes?), which worked perfectly!
ReplyDelete@ tasty moog,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for letting me know! The pencil skirts are perfect for work and I love this season's colors - good to know they'll hold up if I take care of them.
OperaRach- lol! I think I know as to which item on e-bay you're referring to. I saw it this morning too.Yuck! I agree, I don't want to see an item being worn by anybody. What get's me the most is when they're trying to sell it NWT while wearing it in the photo!
ReplyDeleteOperaRach -- OMG, I know! I was just thinking about that the other day. I'm so grossed out by those pictures that I'd never ever bid on them. What on earth?!
ReplyDeleteAlso received the Petites Victoires t-shirt today. Very cute! Fits TTS. I was pleasantly surprised that the letters are raised felt, like the old school iron-ons from the 70s and 80s. The colour is definitely a creamy ivory and not white.
ReplyDelete@Amelia: Oooh haha I totally should have figured that out myself. Yeesh! A little slow today!
ReplyDeleteSub :)
ReplyDeleteCaitlin - the peplum blouse fits SO tiny. Like it was shrunk. I tried on the 10 - which I normally wear in Jcrew blouses. The sleeves were tight, the waist was high, and the hem hit at waist not hip. It FIT, but it was mineraturized. Just not for me. if you are THIN and tall, it will work for you but if you are AVERAGE i would say go a size up. check out netaporter for a model wearing it.
ReplyDeletethanks for the perfect-T fabric update. sounds great for some of my T needs. I found the old ones too heavy/stiff. Love the vintage cotton and the tissue is nice but not dressed enough for under a tailored blazer so this could be "perfect". Also love the new linen tee. I also sized up for the drapey quality.
ReplyDeleteFinally gave in on a st. james. wish I would have done this years ago. I'll have it forever and it may be the solution to my obsessive-stripe-purchase problem.
Hi all, can anyone comment on the espadrille wedges sandals? The description suggests to size up if between sizes. I'm wondering what is the fit with this pair? Are they comfortable to walk in? Is $98 a bit too pricey for this style? Thanks!
ReplyDeletegem twin, the perfect-fit polos are the same fabric as the perfect-fit tees, which is thinner than it has been in past years. It's been that way for a while now, the perfect-fit mixed-tape cardis are the only ones that are slightly heavier IME. If you're looking for a lightweight tee that is not tissue then this should do nicely.
ReplyDeleteI have some of the older tees and they are incredibly soft, nothing stiff about them. I'm still wearing most of the thicker ones I bought some time ago but have thrown out two newer perfect-fit tees that developed holes right away.
Ditto the others, Opera Rach, I know just which auction you're talking about. And no offense if the seller of the boots is here, but there is (or was) a boot auction showing an awful lot of thigh. I actually reported an auction that was clearly an ad for porn pics, girl was selling beat up flip flops that had zero value, listing contained lots of provocative pictures.
ReplyDeletetamara, LOL - I can't imagine what type of person is looking for porn by searching ebay auctions for flip flops. Crazy world we live in.

Well...I just went to the Chicago (Michigan Avenue) store and picked up a pair of the 1035 trousers in superfine cotton. First of all, online they are still $118. In store, they were marked down to $69.99 and then I used my rewards card to knock another $25 off. My question is, how come they aren't on sale online? Anyway, they're really flattering and comfortable. I can tell that this will be my go-to pant this summer for work and occasions.
ReplyDeleteOh- I also used the Red Phone to order the Glitterati Clutch in gunmetal for my wedding...They didn't have any at the store. I'm just afraid that they will go on sale after I get mine! Seems like it ought to be on sale by now, no? Does anyone have this purse? If so, how do you like it?
ReplyDeleteOperaRach- I saw that exact eBay item this weekend and was appalled! Why in the world would anyone feel the need to model the shirt with no bottoms on? I'd much rather see the item laying flat on someone's dining table than being worn, especially by sellers who think if they make their J Crew item look more "sexy" it will sell better...icky.
ReplyDeleteHi! Has anyone bought/tried on the Rumi dress? I recently ordered the Bluebonnet dress in my usual size xs and it was huge. Just wondering if this dress runs large as well. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteReceived the Sevigne washed leather capri sandals in tawny sand today. Love! I ordered last week with the free shipping promo. As luck would have it they went on sale the day I placed my order. They are $49.50. Took my usual flip flop size. Much more comfortable than the regular capri sandals because of the wider strap. I feel like they will stay on my foot better. May order them in black with an extra % off promo.

ReplyDeleteWanted to post a review of something that's been around for a while but I think is great. The denim pencil skirt in classic rinse. Fits just like the corduroy pencil skirts that were on sale. I think it's a fabulous multi-use piece and it fits like a glove in my usual bottoms size.
ReplyDeleteMy only concern is the stretching out factor - does anyone else own this and have you found that it loses its shape over time?
BTW - thanks for the support of my ebay comment - I thought it was only me noticing this! Sometimes the photos are so raunchy I'm wondering if they are not secretly trying to sell 'other services'.... kidding... but seriously.... ick. I'm buying clothes not T&A.
ReplyDelete@LBelle, do u think their sandals, flip flop and wedges r true to size? N it's better to size up if half? Thanks"
ReplyDeleteHI DaniBP can you tell me about the fit of the trenchlet and are you tall? I have been eyeing it but thought it might be too short. Does it fit tts? TIA !
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if I can call a store in another state and ask them to send me an item that is priced lower than online ? I am speaking of the 1035 cotton trousers. Thanks for any info. :)
ReplyDeleteJcee tomato- I do feel like the sandals are true to size. I am usually a 7.5 or 8 but always buy flip flop style shoes in an 8.
ReplyDeleteWFF thanks for those pictures. My store does not have much selection so I loved to see the styled manequins. I like the yellow shorts since I love emroidered fabric. I really like the fish shorts too but why do they have to be so short? How about doing that on a bermuda short J. Crew. I love the blue color of the dress but it Rayon, which is the cheap version of silk and it shrinks horribly.
ReplyDeletetasty moog: I have the high waist skinny jeans. I love them. I have a long torso so these make me look proportioned.
ReplyDeleteI have both the blue (TTS) and the black (size up). The legs are like the toothpick - skinny but not skin tight. They don't stretch out and are super comfy. I wish they made them in white. Would buy more to stock up when they go on sale.
Shekster, yes you should be able to call the store and request a charge-send. HTH
ReplyDeleteFew may remember this but I did my first review ever the day that blogger went down and decided that it was never returning so I just posted some reviews on the following (AGAIN!):
ReplyDeleteCecilia Dress, Doria Dress, Sailor Stripe boy shirt, islet paisley perfect shirt, Linen tie-back sweater, maxi check perfect shirt, Lacy tuxedo shirt, Motorcycle trench, and amory floral perfect shirt. Enjoy!
the blog address might be helpful? : )
ReplyDeletehttp://megancrewreviews.blogspot.com/
Checked out my local B&M today for the new arrivals. First, as all of you have already mentioned, I am in love love love with the Cecilia dress in casablanca blue. Fits TTS, not tight in the armpits, and hits at the knee (I'm 5'6"). I allow myself 1 full priced item with my rewards each quarter and this was my purchase. Seriously amazing!
ReplyDeleteOther items I tried on and will wait for them to go on sale:
Mirabel dress in faded black sand. Fits TTS and is a relatively flattering dress. The only issue I have with this is that it doesn't cinch in enough under the boobs. This may be a problem only with me as I am a small B. With this issue I will wait for it to go on sale.
Leslie lace shell: I really did like this top, but I don't think it is worth $88.00. Again I will wait for it to go on sale and pick up the cream and blue colors. Fits TTS, has a nice A line shape, and is not tight in the armpits (yes I have a thing with tight armpits). If this would have been 20 dollars or more cheaper, I would have purchased.
I did want to mention that I tried on this lace mini skirt that was in the sale section, but I can't find it online. The fit was terrible. It had pleating all over the place that made my stomach look huge. Anyway, there were a ton on sale at the store in all sizes, not surprised.
That is all I have to report, hope it helps!
The American Observer - what color? Were all colors on sale or just that sand color I saw last time I was at the michigan av store?
ReplyDeleteShekster: I am on the tall side, almost 5'7". It is definitely cropped, I would say high hip. I bought it for one purpose: to wear with my black pencil skirts when I travel. I love a trench for the plane and the train stations but wanted one that was more "summer".
ReplyDeleteI took a size 2, I veer between a 0 and a 2. I definitely have room, but that's okay as this piece would also look terrific over a black turtleneck and a wool pencil skirt come autumn.
I do have photos but I won't be able to post them up until tomorrow. If you need one before send me an email: mopphilosopher@gmail.com
Hope that helps. :)

ReplyDeleteI received the fleur maxi skirt yesterday and thought I'd post since some of you may be interested. The good: the fabric, a light poplin, really is nice and the print is understated and goes well with blues, grays and whites. I also think the bias cut is quite flattering.
ReplyDeleteThe not so good: I ordered a small because it didn't come in xs, or at least it wasn't popping up. I'm normally a 4 in bottoms, and the small is definitely on the large side. I think it will work for me because of the drawstring waist, but it would definitely be too big for the size 0's and 2's. It is also really long. I'm 5'4 and there are at least 2 inches dragging the floor. Should be easy to hem though.
gem twin: if you are indeed stripe obssessed like me then stay away from the St James online boutique. Adorable colors available in the styles JC sells. I can't get enough and ITA they will last forever.
ReplyDeleteSlightly OT -- if anyone happens to see any Dorrie Chambray skirts in their B&M, please let me know! I'm looking for a 4 (ideally), or a 6.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Clicquot: There was a size 4 Chambray Dorrie at the Orlando store when I was there last weekend. I'm sure there's a good chance it sold already, but you never know, so it may be worth giving them a call to check. :)
ReplyDelete407-226-9732
Thanks FFM -- I'll check it out!
ReplyDeleteClicquot- I have a size 4 Chambray Dorrie that just arrived today but I think I'm keeping the other size I ordered. It is in perfect, NWT condition and I'll sale it to you for what I paid ($49.99) plus shipping ($2-4.00).
ReplyDeleteLet me know if your interested.
Megan_c1111@hotmail.com
CAMILLE WEDGES- Ordered these wedges and sadly they do not fit. I wear an 8M in almost all shoes and the camille wedge runs small. I recommend ordering up half a size. They are also extremely narrow. So if you don't have a narrow foot I'd recommend finding another summer wedge.
ReplyDeleteCASBAH DRESS- I ordered this dress in a size 4 and it fit but the boning on the top of this dress is really uncomfortable and this dress makes me look pregnant. I'm 5'4 and 125 lbs. The dress hits at the top of the knee. The fabric is soooo gorgeous just wish the fit was better. Sadly it's being sent back.
ReplyDeleteWASHED CREPE AVELINE DRESS- I am 5'4 and 125lbs and ordered the 6P because I wanted the dark grey dress and they only had petite left. I normally wear a 4. The 6P did not zip around my rib cage. The fabric on the dress looks a little cheap for how expensive the dress is. The fit is flattering and you can wear a normal bra under it. I'm going to return it for the 4 and get the aluminum color. We'll see....I'll let you know when it arrives.
ReplyDeleteThanks XOXO and DaniBP I really appreciate your help ! I think the trenchlet would be too short on me but your styling ideas sounded excellent. :)
ReplyDeleteMalinda thanks for the Camille wedge review. I had been eyeing those if they made it to sale but I certainly do NOT have a narrow foot ! Also, the 6P should fit just like the size 4. I found this out when I ordered a size 8P thinking it would just be a little shorter and was told by the SA that it is the equivalent of a size 6 regular.
ReplyDeleteStene, thanks for the info on the Mirabel dress. Is it a nice black or really faded? TIA !
Some old, some new.
ReplyDeleteConfetti striped sweater dress. Definitively a stunner (well worth the money) but short (almost too short on me and I am 5'2"). Also, in case you are wondering if you can wear it during the day, the answer is no. It is definitively a party dress, very heavy in sequins and blingy.
I posted a few pics today (scroll down).
Wave tank. I ordered the tan when it went on sale, a little bit out of curiosity since this color isn't carried in store. The color is more of a golden-chartreuse than tan (not warm at all) but still nice (just not what I was expexting). Fit is tts but a bit boxy. Not sure about it at $50.
Les petites victoires tee. It is cute but a little bit nerdy IMO (like something that Napoleon Dynamite would wear). Plus it is definitively a cream color, like all the embellished tees from 2010 (not sure that I need another one). It fits tts (took my usual xs).
Tuxedo Henley in pink (sold out), XXS - I rather like this. It's a cute style, I like the short collar and it has a flattering fit. It's not tight but drapes while managing to not be boxy either. The pink one is slightly see through, but it doesn't seem noticeably if I wear a nude colored bra. I don't know, depending on how it looks in daylight a tank underneath may be advisable.
ReplyDeletePerfect Fit Tees - I noticed that the Spring ones were super thin while the Summer ones regained some heft. I'm glad J. Crew is making them thicker again (have they been reading my comments and taking them to heart??). If only the Summer colors were half decent, I'd buy one in every color. I ended up returning the Carnival Blossom and Agate. Here's hoping that the Fall colors will be more promising and remain substantial.
Featherweight Cotton Cardigan, XS - I can't tell, but I feel these run larger than some of JC's other XS items. I'm sure I can just shrink them, but they don't seem as excessively long as they are excessively wide. We'll see. Some lovely colors though - I got the Smoldering Brick, which will be perfect with the Tea-Stained Dobby Dress, and the Sea Mist, which is an embodiment of the lovely, delicate light blue I've been hunting for for so long.
Some Factory finds too (I dont' know the actual names of these items):
ReplyDeleteSateen 3" shorts with side zip, purple, 0 - Lovely. I am absolutely in love with these. The purple is a rich, warm gem tone color and is stunning in this classic, understated shape. This will be a great standout piece in the summer when everyone will be wearing denim or khaki shorts. This is an item for the JCAs who are fans of the classic, bright J. Crew style. I actually wear 00s but since these didn't come in 00s I'm going to try to shrink these as I desperately want them to work!
Impressionist floral 3" shorts, 0 - Also gorgeous. These fit a bit tighter than the above shorts so I'm hoping that bodes well for me being able to shrink them to a 00 size. The print is stunning and I can't wait to wear them on vacation!
Oh, and I forgot about my recent lucky find!
ReplyDeleteCoquette Hobo in Luxe Tweed! I got lucky and found this on Ebay! The style can be a bit tricky to work with as the body of the bag is nothing but fabric, so if you have a small, heavy item sitting in the bag it'll drag the bottom down and make the bag look like a sad sack :(. I've found that this problem is solved by having something long inside to stretch out the bottom, like a magazine. I may try to sew a stiff piece of leather or something in the bottom as a permanent fix. Otherwise, the fabric is lovely - it's the same that was in the Moss Tweed Pencil Skirt. It is a bit thinner and softer than some other tweeds, as other people have mentioned. But the color is delicious - multicolored threads coming together to give an overall dark green impression. The gold hardware is substantial and gleams against the tweed with a wonderful contrast. I'm not sure I would've paid full price for it as the shape is basically made from several rectangular pieces of fabric, not leather, but I'm satisfied with the price I got it for.
Shekster - With regards to the Mirabel Dress - It isn't super black, but it isn't gray either. I like it...almost soft looking and goes very well with the cream embroidery.
ReplyDeleteMy experience with J Crew jackets had been limited to the Silk Safari and Ruby. Last week I decided to try out some tailored blazers. I ordered the herringbone Schoolboy in aged driftwood and the double-breasted Bonnie in light heather grey. I have a 40" bust, I got size 14's.
ReplyDeleteThe herringbone Schoolboy is a bit snug, not a full size small, maybe half a size. The color is a grey-beige, much more grey than the aged driftwood suede shoes. (The color code does start with "GY", so no real surprise.) The fabric is actually very nice, the herringbone pattern is minimally visible and provides great texture. I was very pleased with the construction. I'm sending it back because I ordered the jacket in the tall sizing (which wasn't on sale when I first placed my order) in both aged driftwood and heather charcoal. I'm only 5'4" but some of these regular sized jackets are too short for my taste. I want to use this blazer as a light jacket to wear to and from work so I don't want the shrunken look. In addition to being longer, I'm hoping that the tall sizing will provide a little more room.
The Bonnie blazer is super cute. It's TTS, nice quality fabric, great construction, and for this blazer the shorter length actually looks good. A longer length would make it too stodgy, IMO. But I'm sending it back because of the color, or rather the noticeable weave pattern of the fabric. I wanted it to be more of a solid grey. My mistake, I should have used the zoom. :) I'll reorder in navy if it pops back in my size.
I'm still totally waffling on the provence pink Emelline shoes. Fabulous looking shoe, the color is sublime, more rosy than my provence pink Jenna's cardi. The pair I received are absolutely perfect, not a single flaw, which is only making it more difficult for me to make my decision. I definitely recommend these shoes if they work with your wardrobe. I'm only considering sending them back because I now have the aged driftwoods again so I have no real need for the provence pinks. They are lovely though. (sigh) Maybe I should just put them on a shelf and stare at them. :)
