Final Sale is Back ...Just In Time For the Holidays!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Sandra, RatsOnParade, MommyDearest, Green_Dino (in this post), DinDin (in this post), as well as dinagideon, Elizabeth, Rosa in DC, & Marietta, who shared the following update this morning.

J.Crew has brought back the "Final" to their Holiday Sale (click here to shop Final Sale online). Many JCAs predicted the "Final Sale" would be back, but *after* the Holidays, not right before it. Oh J.Crew, how you keep us on our toes! ;)

I wonder if this means that our local brick & mortar (B&M) J.Crew stores will now have "final sale" too. (I hope not.) Mini Update: According to the email sent out this morning (shown below), this final sale is "exclusively" online.

This morning there was a huge update to the sale section (1200+ items). However, by the time I got to it there were a lot of ghost item pages (in other words, the item is still listed but already sold out).

I was hoping for a promotion today, but this wasn't it. ;)

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get? Does your local B&M have "final sale" as well?

  1. big update, went from 453 items to OVER 1200, wow. seeing some really old stuff, tartine cardigans anyone? dazzling dots skirt?

  2. Oh, I was hoping for one last code for 25% off or something like that. I knew that the Final Sale would be back but just like you Alexis, I thought it would happen after the holidays. Some interesting surprises showed up like the Mica minis.

  3. New Free Shipping code on $150+ supposedly good until 12.28.09: BR73V9

  4. a lot of hidden gems out there. but of course they had to list the campo de fiori dress, and of course it is not actually available. :P

  5. The Matchstick cords are now $10.00 cheaper, and they has been other some adjustments to prices, unless you know your size and it is going to fit FS is not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ew. And they're still hawking gift cards on the main page. "Merry Christmas, here's your gift card - go purchase some unreturnable merchandise!"

Careful with those 2008 popbacks, ladies - especially newer JCA's - some have received worn/defective merchandise. Not that JC won't take those back, but it's a hassle.

  7. The update is a walk down Memory Lane! So where were the 1200+ items of inventory lurking BEFORE FS? Like during the % off and free ship promos? Did they suddenly get a big slew of return Gallery Hobos, Lea cardis and Luxe Knit tops in the past few days?

Confusing. Not doing FS anymore, I'll wait for resort at JC and better sale offers elsewhere.

  8. I saw several of these popbacks in tjmaxx, lol.

  9. Oh no!

Oh my! It's the ghosts, er I mean the clothes of Christmas past!

Why all the ghost pages? I've been up during an update and alot of times ghost items are there and never populated. Maybe they are available sometime in the day w/one or two items and I just miss it.

Maybe now is a good time to update those missing items on polyvore. JCrew's christmas present to polyvore users.

  10. OT: Has anyone seen the Silk Tiered Camis at their B&M recently? If so, how much are they? I know certain colors were $19.99, but did all colors get reduced now? TIA for any help! :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't get it. How can an item sold out for months all of a sudden be available in multiple colors and multiple sizes. Too confusing!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Friday and Crosby coats are both back in my size and in the colors I want. However, they are not marked off any more and are on final sale. So why would I want to pay more for a coat I could have purchased last week that was returnable and had free shipping? Way to go J Crew.

    I hate final sale...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I got just as good of deals when it wasn't FINAL sale. I will be passing and no longer checking the updates now for several months.

    Silver Lining,
Yes, great advice. I now stay away from popbacks esp. really old ones. Been burned way too many times and not worth it. Also, sizing can be off in the popbacks and things can either run to small or too big esp. in skirts or pants.

  14. I love how messed up JCrew's website is. The regular priced boots I want show as final sale. They are not in the sale section nor are they on sale. WTF. Really tired of this JC.

  15. Now that I've been putting together my "sell on eBay" list (and actually selling) I'm WAY more hesitant to buy anything Final Sale (in that ALL the things I'm selling on eBay were purchased Final Sale!) I've proven that I need that option to return - otherwise I'm just stuck. And no matter how tempting that $19.99 sweater might be, I'm not wasting anymore money. No thanks, Final Sale!

    ReplyDelete
  16. IRL, awesome point about clipping older items to PV. Woohoo!

I don't understand why JC just can't have a FS section for really old items, while keeping this season's stuff in a different sale section. Then again, they could barely handle a site upgrade last year so I don't think that could go through smoothly either. Geez!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Be creative in your searches! Even with all the items shown I'm finding hidden items. For example, the Dream open cardigan, item 97657, is available in size x-small for $39.99 but is not listed in the sale page.

  18. Completely OT: What are we to do this time of year to let our online Personal Shoppers know how much we appreciate them? Are they allowed to accept gifts? I don't have a physical address for my online PS, only an email address -- and I was thinking of sending an Amazon gift card, but I wasn't sure if there were corporate policies in place that would prevent my PS from accepting it. She's certainly provided a (wonderful!) service over the last year, and I don't know what I'd do without her help in finding items, making returns, etc. Any advice you all have would be a huge help!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm passing on Final Sale too but am having fun looking! I feel like they finally processed all my returns. :P

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bummer. Good update, but final sale??? Really??? Oh, well, guess I'll have to visit my b&m instead of shopping online.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't think everything is final sale. I put two sale items in my cart -- one an old popback, and one an item from this year -- and only the old popback is showing the dreaded red print. You should make sure the items you're interested in can't be returned.

  22. hi all - can anyone advise me on pencil skirt sizing - i wear an 8 in pants. i tried on the matelesse skirt in an 8 and it seemed big but didn't try the 6 to compare. There aree a lot of great pop backs and would love to pick up one.
    thanks

  23. I am somewhat hopeful that they may do the FS in store - because that usually means a hefty additional % off. It does mean that I need to more carefully consider my purchases, though...

    ReplyDelete
  24. IRL, yours and mine both! Ha, ha! Deja spew.

"I was hoping for a promotion today, but this wasn't it." Made me gleek soda onto my laptop, thanks for the giggle!

  25. ok I drank the Crewlade and purchase a few items... all Fall 2009. The only item marked FS in my order was the Gypsy Rose Metallic Cami- I was never too interested in this until I saw a friend wearing it and LOVED it! I guess they held onto all of this Spring & Summer stuff waiting for Final Sale time and are hoping they get rid of it forever. I am bummed as a coat I have been wanting is marked Final sale. C'mom J crew it is December and your sizes are all over the place- how can I order a $225 coat and not be able to return it? argghh

    ReplyDelete
  26. Okay, I'm bored now. Resort please.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just ordered the Wool Ribbon Script Coat in 6 petite for $159 (minus a $100 gift card from my mother) with free shipping. But would it have been cheaper during the earlier 30% off outerwear sale?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm surprised the sale section still has some nice stuff(Looks like it updated couple hours ago)
I'm glad i still have the free shipping no min till Xmas :-)
    @Rats on parade
I actually sent my super helpful online personal shopper a gift few days ago.I dont think she will send back a Christmas gift, but I can let you know if something like that happens :-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Desert Flower

I remember you were looking for the Giverny print dress and i saw it few mins ago. I hope you got it!

  30. "C'mom J crew it is December and your sizes are all over the place- how can I order a $225 coat and not be able to return it?"

Twiga—wouldn't you go to the store and say, "My mother sent me this but it doesn't fit," let them break your heart when they tell you that it's sold out now, and graciously accept store credit for the price it last sold at? Am I a bad person?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Received a defective jacket with 2 stains on the sleeve in my order that came a few days ago. (just got around to opening it now; been too busy). Anyway, one item OK. One defective. Just getting really tired of this. I need a long break from shopping JC. The FINAL sale is a great incentive. I was also told when I called to reorder the defective jacket. Then after I realized it is now final sale!!! Yuck. so had to call back and get notes in the order to return if needed. The CS rep was very nice but he said they are "cracking down" on NO RETURNS on final sale items as they did let a few things slide in the past. Shop online with care ladies!

  32. how does the ruffle gauze cover up run? I missed out on it last time, and may purchase. have to decide between small and medium.. any advice? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm alone here, I know, but I don't mind final sale. But then again, I don't return much. I try to avoid iffy colors and styles I'm not sure of, and my size is pretty consistent, so I've been lucky so far.

I was very excited to see the ochre ikat skirt pop back. I got it one size too big, but I figure I can have it altered. Also got the aubergine ankle cords (I've waited and waited for these to be marked down on-line as no local B&M had them in this color), the ikat floral skirt (glad I didn't bite when it was $99), and a pale gold belt.

I would have liked to have picked up some of the cute dresses, but figured I'd given enough money to JC this season.

    ReplyDelete
  34. allie,
Its a cover up so it would be OK IMO if it was a tad loose. Tight would not be good if you are between sizes. However, not sure which one you are asking about. I have the one that has the ruffle across the chest and a removeable tie that goes around the neck. I got my usual size medium in that gauze one.

    ReplyDelete
  35. allie,
I just checked jcrew.com and I think we are talking about the same one. I have the floral one. It is comfortably snug around my bust. What is your normal JCrew size in tops? I am a medium.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Allie, I have that cover up in the Marbella print and I got my usual xs. As Summer said, if you are in between sizes I would order a size up. Even if it is a little too big tying the belt around the waist cinches it in a lot so you won't be able to tell the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  37. thanks summer and michelle! I usually wear either a small or medium but I do like my clothes a bit looser, so I think I will go with the medium.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Final sale, sale, however they package it, J Crew snaps and I come running. Ordered me some goodies of course.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Has anyone seen a lower price on the destroyed matchstick jeans in a B&M? They've been fully stocked in all sizes at $98 for so long, I'm hoping they'll come down!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thoughts on the Minnie pant? Obvs not a sale item, but worth the $?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I placed an order on the 18th, and received THREE separate item cancellation emails from that order. I got a package with one last item that wasn't cancelled yesterday. Why not just cancel the entire order? I was going to call and buy replacements with the same extra discount for the cancelled items, but now those are final sale...I'm not going to buy anything from final sale.
    What's with their inventory system?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Every New Year/Final Sale time, they have all these De Ja Crew items from the year(s) before. It's kinda fun and funny and scary. A recent pop-back I purchased had no doubt been worn. Those older items, ya' know..where you get the only one that came back and then they are sold out? Def returns. Again..not that they wouldn't return FS item if there were a defective issue which is good to know.
I do think it's weird that they don't just try to blow this old stuff out with the percent off sales. Why keep it around? For instance, the v-neck cashmere cardigan came back periodically in limited sizes and usually 1-2 colors. Now it's in the FS available in all sizes/colors for $10 more. Weird.

Final Sale just ticks off the consumer when they are stuck with an item that doesn't fit. I do think they should allow at least exchanges or store credit on their "sale" merch BUT perhaps they do need a Final Sale (no returns/ex) section AND a current product, normal-returnable sale section.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ji, JC has been so bad about the ridic cancellations lately. One item isn't in stock, so your order languishes so long that other items go missing... That is happening all too frequently IMO. I wrote a polite but straight up email to CS about the problems I had on my last couple orders, and I was sent a nice apology and a twenty dollar gift card. It feels good to vent, and VERY good to have something come of it, even if it isn't what I'd really like: JC to get its warehouse/shipping in order. Sorry you've been having these troubles, too, sounds like many of us are in the same boat.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In a previous post someone commented on liking the hacking jackets - those are showing up on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ladies, how does the DRESSY STRAPLESS JERSEY DRESS (14982) fit? I am normally a S, except jersey dresses I have a mix of S and XS

IRL - same thought! Just got myself a lot more Polyvore options...

silver_lining - ITA!!!!! How can it be better for them to warehouse all that old FS and then haul it out a couple of times a year? JCrew, if you must have final sale, give it a separate, full-time section

Rats - I thought the same thing, so I have some gifts for my PSs (JCrew and elsewhere) that have no monetary value.

    ReplyDelete
  46. mommydearest,
I would go with a small. I went with my normal medium and the fit was snug but not too tight.

    ReplyDelete
  47. sweetsy,
final sale not only sucks when you are left with an item that doesn't fit but also when the color is WAY off what it looks like online. I have 3 final sale SOUR LEMON items just sitting in my closet that have never been worn. The color is so awful and looked nothing like pictured. Need to drop them off at goodwill ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tastymoog: Did you just recently see JC items at TJ Maxx or are you referring to last winter's popbacks? TIA~!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks Summer. Like everyone else, I'm just still irritated that I'm looking at last summer's stuff with no additional markdown...

    ReplyDelete
  50. OT: Land's End started their big sale today too. I got free shipping no minimum. If anyone needs the code and pin let me know. It is all returnable too. NO time limit--ever.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Final sale is the worst! And not even any good holiday promos. I didn't buy a single thing from J. Crew this season, but I guess they're doing well enough with Michelle Obama's support that they don't care. Oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  52. CheesyGoodness

    Thanks for the support ;-)
I was so unhappy with it yesterday, I had to write to the CS. I tried to be polite since it's the most stressful time of the year for the them... but I'm not sure if they will show me any nice gestures.

    ReplyDelete
  53. mommydearest, the strapless jersey runs a tad tight in the chest, I went with the larger of my usual jersey sizes. Very cute and comfy, though the removable strap is bizarrely long.

Ji, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get a good outcome and a giftcard for your troubles. I never get the little gifts that JC sends out, so I'm glad I at least got acknowledged during an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alexis - I just wanted to let you know that I am so grateful to you for posting this and other J Crew notices. I, just now, received my Final Sale email from J Crew. If I didn't know about your site I would have been so disappointed if something I wanted had popped back and sold out. Because of your post I was able to view items this morning. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  55. A note from Mickey:

    Dear VALUED Customer,

You've been very naughty this year and we are giving you a lump of coal in your stocking instead of free shipping with no minimum. Oh wait, scratch the lump of coal we have something even worse to give you: FINAL SALE!

    XOXO
    Mickey Drexler

P.S. If you are lucky we will charge you a small fortune for shipping and send you a defective cashmere sweater that is pilling and has holes in it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Summer - I am totally with you on sour lemon ... the same thing happened to me last year, and now I am stuck with a top that looks like it was soaked in neon yellow highlighter. So yeah, no final sale for me!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ashley, I tried on the Minnie a few times and it's a nice, form-fitting pant. It's a good basic, imo. I didn't buy it simply because I have too many pants as it is, and at the time, I was hoping the Minnie would be marked down. Instead, they raised the price, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Emily,

Great note. Thanks for the chuckle--mainly b/c it is all TRUE!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Emily: LOL!!

I did not order this morning since I told myself it's not worth being stuck with damaged or items with stains on it.

Final Sale prices should be marked down lower and should not include current season sale items. JC seems lazy and label ALL sale as final sale (I know some items don't appear as FS during checkout).

It was kind of fun looking at previous season pop backs... lots of bright colors.

Someone asked about destroyed matchstick jeans? I got mine for $29.99 at B&M last week. They had a ton of sizes above 28.

    ReplyDelete
  60. OMG-I am laughing at the email I just received "Announcing Final Sale" at J Crew online only.

This is worthy of sending it out to your customers? Like you actually want them to know this..cause they will be SO excited?? so totally strange.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks Lauren. I really like them, but needed an opinion to pull the trigger :D

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ashley: HeidiG. and I love our minnies. I have the navy and grey and I believe HeidiG. may have all four colors (kidding, but she does love them).

Both she and I have various pics of ourselves wearing them on our blogs, but only HeidiG. did an actual review. :)

I am surprised at how much I do wear them...very versatile and very flattering. I have worn the grey enough that I had to get them cleaned. (Only problem? Dry Clean only.)

Wait for a % off sale, though. Or use an educator discount. The cost is pretty high on its own without some sort of money off. Just my 2 cents.

  64. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the Final Sale email. I really don't get how JC thinks their FS items and prices are reasonable? I get if it's a FS + a huge markdown but a lot of the things are still the same price as it's been for weeks! It's completely ridiculous. I may bite on the FS if they offer an additional % off later but there's nothing that I must have right now. I'm also not in the best mood probably because I just returned my defective double cloth camino coat and two very itchy dolce sweaters. Good for my pocketbook. Not so great for my closet. ;)

I may browse a bit but I think I'm going to pass today.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow, thanks, JC Mama! Tells me where to set my trigger price. I'll probably have to buy online as the smaller sizes were scant at my not-so-local B&M, even at $98.
