"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following email J.Crew sent today.
It is another reminder email that J.Crew has two promotions ending today. First, they are offering 30% off all outerwear for Men (click here to shop online) and Women (click here to shop online). This offer is available both online and in brick & mortar (B&M) stores. Second, they are offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code WINTER.
From the comments in previous posts, it sounds like some of you got some new Winter coats. {yey!} It is perfect timing, consider the snow storm experienced in many parts of the country today. ;) (Including where I live. Which means I have to start shoveling the snow off my driveway now.) :(
Will you be taking advantage of either promotion? If so, what items are you planning to get? If not, why (waiting for a better promotion)?
I just got an email that my Friday coat--which was backordered until 1/15--shipped yesterday. I'm very excited to get it. Has anyone else bought this coat? What do you think?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of coats, I have a tale of woe - I shipped 2 coats back to JC via UPS (from Canada) and they have been hung up in transit for a MONTH! They have only just crossed the US border and have been sitting there a week! Meanwhile, the 60 days refund period has elapsed. Do you think customer service would still be willing to refund me vs. gift carding? If it had shipped in the 6 days it was supposed to ship it would have been fine.
ReplyDeleteWell if they won't, look for me to be unloading some gift cards on the weekly exchange! (:
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Post-fab princess,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your tale of woe. I can't believe that would happen in this century. I would say your best bet for now is to call CS and explain to them the situation, and hopefully the CS will have a heart. If not, you can always speak to the manager. The situation you describe is a unique one, so hopefully J. Crew will be sympathetic.
HTH
Has anyone tried a men's coat for women? I'm talking about the Sutherland Herringbone Topcoat. Wow that's a beautiful coat, is it too mannish for that jeans and cashmere sweater look?
ReplyDeleteLaura - I sometimes buy men's sweaters when they're on sale-- especially the merino ones, I see there's another post in ode of those today, but I don't know about men's coats. I do think it's a beautiful coat-- wish they had the same herringbone for women, I love herringbone!-- and I don't think it's 'mannish', but it's maybe a problem with the fit of the coat. It depends on your physique. The shoulder, sleeves, bust, and waist would be the biggest difference.
ReplyDeleteI went into a B&M yesterday and tried on one of the puffer coats. It runs tiny!!! I just bought a jacket in size L from Ann Taylor last week. I tried on a L in the JC puffer and there was no way it was getting anywhere near closed, so much so that I don't think an XL would have fit either. So much for buying a JC puffer. On a positive note, Bloomingdales.com is having an awesome sale on outerwear right now. 40% off coats already marked down. I got two Elie Tahari down coats for $120 and $130 each. Exciting! They have a good selection so if you are not finding coats you like at JC definitely check it out.
ReplyDeleteAudrey, I think you could be right. I have a bust and would potentially need to go to a Medium because of that and then it could look like a big boxy square, plus they are sold out of the Medium size. I agree, I love herringbone!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I doubt you'd get a good fit in a man's coat, but if you have a store nearby it's certainly worth a try. IME my bf's size medium shirts and jackets are too large in the shoulders and sleeve length, and I'm a big girl with very broad shoulders.
ReplyDeletepost-fab princess: If JC does not extend the return period, make a claim against UPS. It is UPS responsibility to get the parcel through customs, my guess is they did not attach the appropriate form. When speaking to J Crew ask to speak to an Supervisor, they have the power to let you return things beyond the 60 days, they usually make allowances for Canadian returns.HTH
ReplyDeleteJeanne you're right; in the men's shirts, it looks like a dress. I can only imagine how long that coat would be. I'm just liking the look of the men's section so much because they have so many classic fabrics and colors.
ReplyDeleteI did order the Frosted Donegal Tweed coat, haven't seen it but I'm slightly worried about the "frosted" description of the fabric. I love the look in the pictures but what if it sparkles? Not sure that is a multi-season look.
Thanks Wendy and Casual-Crew. I'm going to take your advice and try my luck with CS!! Gah - I specifically paid more and went with UPS because they are usually so efficient!!!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you remember the Granger herringbone jacket from the 2007 Paris catalogue - like everything else in that most fabulous j.crew collection ever, I fell in love with it enough to order it, in the smallest size - but it was a terrible fit, so I returned it. So that's my experience with dabbling in j.crew's men's jacket offerings...
OT: New markdowns at the B&M!
ReplyDeleteContrast-stitch perfect shirt = $49.99
Jaspe hoodie = $39.99

Ankle toothpick cords, all colors = $29.99
Posy camis = $19.99
Perfect pencil skirts = $79.99
Mohair cardigans = $59.99
Sherpa hoodies, all colors = $49.99
Thigh-highs = $9.99
Frances shirts, black and white = $39.99
Hope this helps someone!
Thanks, silver_lining. I've been hoping the ankle cords would be marked down again :)
ReplyDeleteThis is what I have been waiting for. Ordered the stadium-cloth Boulevard Trench in black. Have been in love with it since I first tried it on in the store!
ReplyDeleteSilver_Lining: Such good news about the Posy cami I'm going to call my B&M to see if they can put one on hold for me. Also, were other colors off the Frances blouse $39.99 too. I see the is a soft graphite color online that I'd love to buy. TIA.
ReplyDeleteThe stretch flannel banquet dress was on sale at my local B&M for $99.99! Called in on redphone and they honored the price and applied the student discount. Couldn't be more happy. Also ordered the wool duffle in olive.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the dapple dot cardi was on sale in-store, too, for $59.99, I think.
Heads up on the banquet dress: it's cut LOW. The 6 fit me in the chest really well, but would be uncomfortable sitting around the mid-section. The 8 fit my midsection well, but was baggy in the chest. Went with the 8 hoping to get it taken in.
PS - The Garland scoopneck tee is really flattering on. I wasn't drawn to it on the model, but I threw it on just to have something lighter under the jacket I was trying on and I loved it. Can't wait for it to go on sale.
ReplyDeleteFYI: fit on the Eden is very inconsistent. Bought two colors online; same sizes and one is wider in the sleeve width.
ReplyDeleteSeems strange but I noted this as well when I tried them on when they first came out in the stores.
Had an order come today with 12 items. Only 2 were defective. How I long for a day when nothing is defective!
OT - sharing a GAP code:
ReplyDeleteUse N2NFL12C6WMG for 20% off thru 12/13. I think it's one time use.
thanks for the sale updates, silver_lining.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this is new, but in my B&M today, the cashmere sale for $99 now includes the turtlenecks. Previously, I thought I had only seen it for the crewnecks.
I'm sure I'm not the first to notice that J.Crew's Nanami Gown was prominently featured in tonight's Glee episode? :-)
ReplyDeleteHas anybody seen the thigh high socks in any of the NYC stores? I've not gone to the one on 76th and Madison but all the rest seem to have been out of these since they were released. I did get one pair in black but would love another pair. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I noticed lots of markdowns in NYC on 5th Ave and 16th but the same items were full price elsewhere...
