J.Crew Email: For you & only you -a little holiday help

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Just Visiting, Lilac Cupcake, JBird, as well as Elizabeth (in this post), who shared the email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email announces to {select} customers that they will be receiving some combination of free shipping, free monogramming and free gift boxing (no minimum & on all orders!) by logging into their registered J.Crew account online. The {unlimited} offer expires 12/25/09.

This offer is similar to past offers, where customers would get free shipping (on any order) by simply logging into their J.Crew account. Once again, I think this is a fabulous promotion. Once again, I got left out. C'mon J.Crew! I keep hoping I will be included in the next round of "log-in" offers, and I am always unpleasantly disappointed. :( Since I am sucker for J.Crew, I will think positively and hope that the next time I will be included. :) {fingers crossed}

Did you receive this email? Are you planning to take advantage of this current offer?

  1. i received this email but only have free gift boxing- no monogramming.

its kind of a lame-o promotion anyways.

  2. I got the email too, but only for the free gift boxing -- which is fine, since I'm not really into monograms. I will, however, appreciate the boxes for the stuff I'll be buying for hubby.

  3. I also got this, but no free monogramming--just gift boxes. It's a nice idea, but I'd prefer free shipping/no min. or something else.

  4. I was going to place an order last night, but something told me to hold off. I'm glad I did, b/c that little beauty popped up in my inbox this morning. Score! I went ahead and placed my order- saved me about $10.

  5. Yes free gift boxing only (fine since I didn't use the free monogramming, only the FS on the last one)

  6. I received this and am thinking about using the monogramming offer to buy some shirts for my boyfriend as a christmas gift.

A little off topic but I just did a review of J.Crew cords on my blog if anyone is interested :)

  7. I received the email with the free shipping, free monogramming, and gift boxing. I will probably take advantage of this... thanks JC!

  8. I received this email, but only free gift boxing. It's a nice gesture, but I don't think I'll have a need for it. Congrats to those who will! :)

  9. i didn't... which stinks because i regularly order with a monogram. i suppose that's why i didn't, though. ah, irony...

  10. Since I live near several stores, the offer of a free gift box is about as exciting as being offered a receipt with my purchase, lol. Hello, j.crew, it's not exactly hard to get gift boxes from stores! At Nordstrom's, they'll tie a big bow around it, too, for free.

  11. I think the gift box offer is nice, although most of what I buy from J Crew are gifts for myself!

  12. OT ladies - Bobbibrown.com is offering Friends & Family 20% off plus FS (on orders over $65) through 12/2.

  13. I received this, but like the others, it is for the free gift box. Although I think these promotions are awesome, I think JC needs to go back to offering free shipping. I order constantly with my BR Luxe card and I ALWAYS have free shipping.

  14. I didn't get it again this time. I don't know how they select who gets what promo but this is lame, JC. I did receive the November catalog yesterday with free shipping code that already expired. Pretty lame.

  15. I got this offer and also free monogramming with the free ship offer in November but have yet to use the monogramming because items with a monogram are not returnable and I just don't have enough confidence to make things final sale.

Most decent stores have free gift boxes so that is not a big deal. If they wrapped it up in fancy paper with a pretty grosgrain ribbon and bow that would be a nice promo.

  16. I got the free monogramming and gift boxes but not the free shipping this time around. I did take advantage of the monogramming when I had the free ship but doubt I'll use it this time. I just picked up gift boxes at my J.Crew last week, so I don't need them, either.

  17. I just logged in to my account and received all 3: free shipping, mongramming, and gift boxes. I will probably take advantage of the free shipping. I wonder if that will last until 12/25? Like others, most items from JC are gifts for myself so I don't need those, and the other stores give boxes for the gifts purchased there.

  18. I received an email for free monagramming and gift boxing. I would have taken advantage of a fs promo...not really interested in what I received. Anybody with a free shipping promo want to trade (smile)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just recv'd all 3..I wish I could think of what I might monogram (what item and of course, something I knew would be a keeper)??

The boxes..I agree that unfortunately, things are almost all for my selfish, self. I don't know how they know what to gift box in my order?? Is it all going to come gift boxed? I'll let you know as I just placed a sweater order (yep, only the thick ones;)

  20. Free gift boxes. I think I'll pass.

  21. I received all three offers (free shipping, free monograms, free gift boxes). Not sure if I'll take advantage of these or not.

  22. didn't get this promo but i got the last rounds of free shipping. nothing im dying to have anyway... i think i'll wait around for a real sale.

  23. I got free boxes only. I am thinking hard about joining other bloggers on a shopping ban. I just had another sweater that I've worn twice start falling apart. I was sensitive to Professor's comments the other day, because I realize my posts are much more negative than positive-complaints about poor quality, etc. It will be hard to cut myself off from JCrew and JCA, but I think I'm going to have to do it. As CheesyGoodness mentioned the other day, having clothes falling apart is just too upsetting, especially when they cost so much in the first place. Perhaps I'll write Mickey a farewell explaining how they lost me as a customer. If I succeed in dropping out, I wish everyone very happy holidays!

  24. i sat down last night and used the clothes shaver on all of my j. crew sweaters. i could have created a new sweater from all the fuzz that i took off of them.

i thought about sending the shavings to mickey to show him what crappy quality j. crew is selling but then figured i should just the money i would have spent on postage to put toward some quality cashmere/ merino.

  25. I got all three. I love the no minimum free ship promotions. I immediately took advantage of it and bought a belt for $14.99, I've had it in my cart and was not willing to pay $6.00 in shipping to get it!

I will probably do a lot more ordering between now and December 25.

  26. Stacy, hahaha, that would have been hilarious! Maybe I'll do that with my collection of pilled dream sweaters :-D

Corry, I have been way more critical of j.crew lately, too. Don't drop off the blog, though. I don't think it's a negative to be a discerning customer. I'm not going to just see a j.crew label and respond with a spoon. The knocks they've gotten on here lately are deserved.

That said (anyone else catch the finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm), I still like them for some things - wearing my fresh plum pencil skirt today, and adore it :-)

  27. ^make that swoon, not spoon!! sheesh.

  28. Off the topic, but I cant help saying that I just do not like J crew merino sweaters.. they feel so artificial. I know I am complaining and after all opinions are subjective, but really I am making a resolution to stick to buying only the good and value-for-money stuff... I could splurge on fashion only when I really love an item and think that its a keeper for life. Rest assured, stuff like 'ruffles and tissue and feather-weight and whisper' and more pooh-pooing is making me feel like too vain which I dont want to be.. I have always been a smart and feminine dresser but I would not let that extend to vanity...Wow.. I surprise myself at times.. Wish everyone a great year end !

  29. No freebies at login for me today. I love monogramming, too, especially for gifts. I got DH a v neck cotton cashmere sweater with his initials a couple years back and it was a big hit.

Corry, I agree with La Belle Helene, stay on the blog! I survived a month long ban earlier this fall. JCA is the best way to curb cravings for the impulse buy and a great way to edit what to get when the ban is over. I'm thinking of doing another ban maybe Feb-March (I could never not buy during after Christmas sales, I'm too much of a bargain slut!)

Stacy, love your shaver comment. I always feel like I could make another cat after I groom my longhair. I wonder if there is any real application for all the JC fuzzballs? Like how you can make felt out of dryer lint?

  30. Ha Cheesy, I can see it now - next year's Dream sweaters:

"Now more luxurious than ever, spun from a blend of acrylic/wool/cashmere/Dream lint from 2008-2009 sweaters. We're wearing ours with acid-washed pleated jeans, plucked from a dumpster behind the Goodwill and a raw-edged ruffled sequin chiffon tissue tee. Oh, and sky-high heels - it's effortlessly chic!"

    ;)

  31. I received today's e-mail with all three, ahem, perks(?), but I'm not moved to buy. I recently ordered a cashmere sweater from Garnet Hill for my sister and it arrived yesterday. The quality appears very nice and the cashmere feels luxe. Overall, my JC cashmere sweaters don't measure up very well. Also, just fluffed my way through the Look Book post. The styling looks like a strung out Vogue magazine spread, (complete with really bad hair) and the clothes scream "disposable" and "poor quality". Why can't Jenna take a cue from the costume designers at Mad Men. "Fit, fabric and details" my grandma always said.

  32. Corry: Don't leave the blog, I have too been negative about JC lately, but we have to talk about the good with the bad right? If JCAs do not report a bad product along with the good, people will still go on buying the poor quality product and J Crew will keep on making the cheap clothes. I am typing this while looking at the holes developing at the hem on my Dark Rinsed Matchstick jeans, I only washed them about 8x.

I cannot afford to spend and have my clothes fall apart so quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Silver Lining, your sweater promo is brilliant! I like the acrylic touch you've put on your Fall 2010 Sweaters, so...plastic-like! I just love artificial fibers!

David, are you a card holder? Is that how you got the Look Book? I'm curious. Yes, I make snarky comments while still wanting the Look Book. I can't help it.

  34. I too had free gift boxes only. Too bad, as I was on the fence about ordering a skirt this morning, and would have gone ahead with it had I found a free shipping offer on my account. Oh well, it's probably better that it wasn't there to push my will power over the edge, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  35. casual-crew, my dark rinse matchsticks developed a few small holes on the thighs near the knee after the second wearing. They frayed in the wash and now look a little distressed. I was quite disappointed and haven't bought another pair. Went back to my
    SFAM, R&R and others.

OK, I'll say something positive here too. I still love the matchstick cords, no problems there at all and the color and fabric seem to hold up nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Baybaybay: I agree I love my Matchstick cords too, they have not shrunk at all in the dryer. Also the Premium Indigo wash of the Matchstick jeans are holding up very well compared to the Dark Rinsed.

  37. I love J.Crew merino sweaters. I'm wearing one right now! (four pocket cardigan which I own in 2 colors).

I think my merino sweates wear nicely. The dream sweaters are another story, however.

I just wish J.Crew had made thicker wool sweaters this year. I totally don't get the concept of really thin sweaters for winter.

  38. silver_lining, LOVE it! So very Martha of you. May I suggest a matching accessory, handmade of that same quality blend (but shh, we can't tell you which mill it's from!) Oversize pill pom-poms to attach to any piece, from jackets to headbands, necklaces to your dog's collar. The perfect feminine flourish, we're crazy about them in multiple colors.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Silver-lining that just made me laugh out loud!! So funny. But you forgot to mention the price...that will be $98 dollars please!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Haha CheesyGoodness, I'm just waiting for someone to do a parody tour of the famous mill they can't talk about and post it on YouTube.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I got the offer for all 3 and love the free ship no minimum! I have never used Monogramming... so no excitement on that one. But I did purchase 3 sweaters for myself today, but did not have them giftwrapped:)
I guess this is how we will be getting more of our promos because there is no way for us to transfer this to anyone (didn't someone say that Mikey saw someone handing off the red card last year in a B&M?) So Hopefully the 25% promo is coming soon- hint hint jcrew:)

    ReplyDelete
  42. hahahah! cheesy goodness - love it! You both could write for the catalog

  43. Count me in on the November catalog wagon - in fact, I got not one but two copies with expired FS code. Well done.

  44. CheesyGoodness and silver lining,

    hahahahahahaha,

Don't forget the neon anklet to finish your outfit ;-)

  45. I only received the free gift box. Am I suppose to be excited about that? Anyway, had I received free shipping, I would have placed an order. I will continue to wait...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Laura, you're a genius (re: the YouTube bit). We should do it. Who could do a funnier parody of anything J. Crew than the folks who hang out on this blog? Just imagining it, I'm falling out of my chair laughing. (Aren't we all looking for a good way to destress during the holidays?)

  47. Also OT, I have noticed many shoes are priced lower in stores than online. I was at Prince St (NYC) and the peep-toe pearlized Joleys are $79.99, the Megan heels are $99 and the Cossettes are $59.99. Hope this helps someone.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Laura, about the Look Book. No,I've not received mine yet, I usually get my catalogs two weeks after some of y'all have gotten yours. Sorry I did not make it clear that the only look I've gotten at the Look Book was the one included with the Sneak Peek at the Holiday Catalog here. I'm not a JC cardholder, it would not do my sweet husband any good to know that I am one of J. Crew's patron saints. I just called customer service one day and the sweet soul I talked to could tell after looking up my account that I was a frequent offender and she put me on whatever list it is and viola- they began to appear in my mailbox. Yes, even though I was grousing earlier about what seems to be coming for Spring, I still want to have one in my hands to hopefully dissect something wearable in real life from that mess. The funny thing is, when I called to check on some of the stuff in the recent Fall Look Book, I asked the CS person about the wool twill ankle length pants that were gathered around the waist, she couldn't find them but took my number and said she'd call me back. Well she did and she told me that the way to get the look was to buy at least a couple of sizes larger and gather them around the waist with a belt. (Only one???) I was absolutely incredulous, and I think she felt the same.

  49. Some reviews of items that arrived from my 20% off sale orders:

    The good:
Bailey feather peep-toe heels: LOVE. So cute, whimsical and feminine. Fit perfectly, and got for $160 which was like half the original.

Jeweled garland necklace in butterscotch. Adorable, not too heavy and doesn't look cheap. Price was right for $56.

    The bad:
cashmere ruffled henley: blah. Looks like a cashmere pj top.

    The ugly:
tissue stone necklace t. OK, the style looked cute on, if only it hadn't arrived with FOUR holes, two of the stones fallen off the thread with the thread hanging out, and two stones fallen out of their settings (floating around in the plastic bag it came in). I think the metal settings on the stones probably ripped the holes in the shirt. I know I got it on super sale, but c'mon, a shirt with holes is still not worth $48 to me, even if it was originally $150. Possibly the most defective JC I have ever had delivered to me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow, Cass, no wonder it was on sale. They probably want to get rid of those tees before they disintegrate. :P

I didn't get any of the previous sign-in promos/emails for the FS, and didn't get this one either. Don't know why since I'm a cardholder and make a $50-200 purchase about every two weeks - or, maybe that's *why*.
