Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

    I really like being able to go to Talbot's store and use the red phone on sale or final sale items and get free shipping; wonderful service:)

    I only buy accessories on final sale or an item I already own or tried on for size. Unlike JCrew I have not received any damaged or previoulsy worn items in final sale.

    To add onto what Genny said, I love that you can go online and put an item on hold to pick up at your local Talbots. The striped scarf will finally be mine :)

    The stars are aligning at Loft! You can't stack promos, and the usually require codes for each thing, but right now extra 40% on sale is automatic, free shipping on $125 is automatic and there are codes for 20% FP items SPRINAY and 30% FP FBEXCLUSIVE

    For anyone looking for a great knee-length, "full" skirt (as J. Crew has such a strong affinity for minis these days), I suggest White House Black Market. I picked up the Shell Full Skirt last week, and I love it!

    For those Canadian JCAs who love the Liberty prints, Gravity Pope has the spring Bensimmon offerings including a limited edition Liberty print sneaker. I ordered a pair today - cute!

    The Bay also has the Bensimmon in solids with the elastic gore if anyone is looking for those. HTHS

    Dina, I picked up a pair of the Liberty Bensimmons (blue and orange floral print) from Madewell on sale less than two weeks ago (59.99 less 20% with promo, item 25223). They were clearly a popback as only a few sizes were available (was thrilled when one of them was mine!). It might be worth checking them out if you are hunting. :-)

    dinagideon, sorry I had to step away for an online meeting. Still working these long hours from home with short breaks in between. It's killing me, I tell ya. :^(

    As you know they do ship to the U.S. but I don't know how it works for customs and duty. I do find their customer service to be top notch though. The staff at the local store all know me by name, much to my husband's chagrin. LOL Anyway, I shop there an awful lot and have always been 100% satisfied with everything. I just can't get to the B&M until late next week due to my long hours, hence the online order. If I can help you with anything like sizing or IRL photos, just let me know. It will give me another excuse to stop in to the shop. hehe

    Sorry for hogging, but Madewell has a free ship on any order promo, running through Sunday, use code SHOPAWAY. I am super impressed with their stuff, and see that the Derby Jacket I got a week ago is back in stock in all sizes. Highly recommend if you want a utility jacket but not in army green/fatigue/grey/blue. Super fast shipping too.

    While looking for J Crew pictures I came across this Club Monaco Spring 2011 Look Book. It's looking very J Crew-ish. I had almost forgotten about them. There's a Club Monaco store in Chicago but I'm hardly ever in that area.

    I posted this in another thread but I thought I would add it here too. I spotted a nice jacket on Ann Taylor Loft's web site this morning which I think will work well with J Crew clothes. Regularly $98, it's 30% off with free shipping today (March 12).

    I'm not crazy about the pleat in the back. If I keep the jacket (I just mail ordered it today) I'm sure I'll close the pleat.

    Had a great shopping experience at Talbots yesterday:) The JCrew stores are a longer drive for me and Talbots is really close. I think JCrew has lost me as far as me buying 99% of my clothing there. I used to get $50-$100 rewards each period and I have not gotten any rewards the last 3 periods. However, I have $25 rewards for Talbots right now:) and growing.


    Talbots is such a changed store! Lots of comments on Facebook and the company really listens to their customers unlike JCRew.

    Nordstrom Rack has an Eileen Fisher merino scarf with paillettes for $60, regularly $158. Not exactly cheap, but Eileen Fisher items are such high quality. The chicory color is very similar to some of the colors J Crew had for fall/winter.
