"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Ibi who suggested weekly 'Looking to LOVE' and 'Looking to HATE' posts where we could all "deposit" our best & worst current experiences. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. OT: The minimum purchase amount for 30% off and free shipping on the SHOPNOW promo has been changed to $100.

  2. I was ever so excited on Monday morning when the CS rep said he would honor the new promo on my Sunday night order. Received order - don't see an adjustment in billing. Checked online - no adjustment there either. Used a PS for the first time on Sunday. Asked about the sizing of the super cheap Vintage Slim jeans. She stated "28" as my correct jean size. I had a hard time with that as all of my cords are 26 & 27. So, against her recommendation I ordered a 27. They arrived last night - HUGE! I understand it is a "bigger" fit; however, these are the you don't have to unsnap or unzip to get on huge :) Imagine had I ordered the 28 hehe.
On a positive note, the Fiesta floral tunic and the Ink blossom are cute (and fit)

  3. Sneaky farkers! Lowering the minimum like that! I have never met such a shifty retailer in all my life. Or are they just fluid?

    Hmph.

Karen, I agree -- I bought one pair of vintage slims on super sale a year or so ago and they fell off of me. I returned them pronto. Which was a shame, becasue they were cute!

  4. Yeah, I don't feel like there has been an adjustment on my Sunday order charge either... hopefully there isn't a 'bad notation' on my account with no results!

  5. Karen and WPZ-Sandy: The adjustment won't show up on your order or the J.Crew website. If you check the account you used to make the payment, there will be a $1 pending charge which J.Crew places on the card before the credit actually posts. Also, the adjustments are not applied until after the order has shipped, so that will also delay your account being credited.

  6. Oh and Karen, when I asked for my adjustment on the order I placed the day before the sale started, the CS rep said I'd still be charged the full amount but I the next billing cycle, my refund would be credited. Stinks, but it's better than nothing.

  7. Looks like more items going to FS today on their first markdown. Lame, JC.

  8. FFM & Elaine - THANKS that is good news! Hmm, maybe I'll pop back over to the sale and order my husband a few tees :)
I am housebound today as I wait for repairmen...that is never good for my pocketbook :0

  9. i'm mad that they lowered the shipping to $100 since i ended up paying $10.50 because I couldn't find enough stuff i wanted to make the $150 min on monday. Grrr!

  10. ashley - That bites. It's totally annoying when they lower the threshold in the middle of the promo. If they changed the code, that would at least make it like a new promo. I realize a new code requires programming and they can do whatever they like, but it makes them untrustworthy.

  11. I am irritated because the pocket on my short icon trench has a hole! I have worn it exactly twice. Grrrr :(

  13. Has anyone besides me noticed that some of the current sale items (for the 30% off sale) have actually been marked up? I bought the bi-stretch wool mini pants for $47.00 last month. They are now listed at $88.00 for the sale! A few of the blazers and sweaters appear to be marked up too. A bit disappointing JC.

  14. duanaful - As I always say...there's rubber in them thar J Crew prices.

  15. Sending everything to Final Sale after first round mark downs just tells us that they have no confidence in their products.

If you can't sell it for $150, I doubt sticking someone with it (and not allowing returns) for $100 is going to score you a return customer if they're not happy with the purchase.

  16. Gigi- LOL. I'd say there's oil and water in them thar pricing...because it truly doesn't stick.

  17. I love JCrew scarves but some of them are made of material that snags quite easily. I see it in the stores and that stops me from buying them. The colors and prints are so gorgeous but I don't want to spend $59.50 on a scarf if it snags that easily. They should either make it in a different material or blend it with another fiber to prevent this.

  18. Regarding the price fluctuations, promo fluctuations, and mysterious disappearance/reappearance of items....... I'm beginning to think that they've got some kind of sadistic web marketing team that just loves to torture us. If I didn't like the clothes so much I'd say "screw you, sadists!". Instead, I'm a puppet. (A well dressed puppet!) Here's to future frustrations as we enter the Spring sadism season. :)

  20. #1: I got the Martinee Trench and less than a week the snap grommet fell off. So very disappointing especially after you make a $$ purchase like that.

Luckily the folks at the store helped me exchange the defective item even after all the tags were gone. Thank you store staff in Burlingame, CA!

#2: Purchased the Aigle Ecuyer boots in Size 8/38 Euro. The books came after being sold out. However, the original Aigle box was not present. Plus, I think they threw whatever Size 38 was available to ship!! The calf size was XL! Way too big (wide and tall) for me. I returned the boots at the store and the store associates were appalled the original Aigle box wasn't even shipped with it.

Loove JCrew, however, hopefully I have no more disappointing experiences with them.

  21. I received a shirt/gift in the wrong size. Got online with jcrew chat customer service to have them see if/where the shirt was available in my size before driving all over town. The rep said the shirt was not available online (retail only) and that it was completely sold out in my size.

So, I went to my closet store to return it, told the salesperson why, and she pointed the shirt right out (across from register!) and there were SEVERAL in my size. Turned out good in the end, but makes me think the CS is useless.

  22. This is a simple vent. I am assuming it happens as I am in Canada. Every time I order something and receive an email that it has shipped I do not get a tracking number. Then a few days later I receive an email from J.Crew saying "Oops! Here is your tracking number". Is it that hard to sort out?
